I was excited when I saw the news of the new motard, but then I watched this video and decided I would rather not want to be associated with who Ducati is trying to target with the unveiling of this bike. Ducati, Fire your Ad Agency!

Interesting and questionable marketing video, trying to relate the new Hypermotard to highschool kids, including girls, who certainly wouldn't want or be able to afford it. You meet the nicest street racing teen Hooligans on a Hypermoto? - Could be a field day for personal injury attorneys.

Seen it at EICMA last week, and it's gorgeous! It's true that it's expensive, that the unpainted stickers..., but it's a concentration of power and technology, which revolves around an engine to be tested but which from the numbers already seems fantastic. A mono inspires fun and makes you dare to ride. The video is spot on!
I haven’t been this excited about a bike since I got my Aprilia sxv550. I liked it because it was unusual at the time. This is giving me the same vibes!
Ah yes, I remember that one, it was a blast. I regret selling it to this day, the craziest bike I've ever had. The only thing I don't miss are oil changes every 600 miles and engine rebuilds every 6000 miles (taking it to Nolland cause he's the only one on the East coast that knows that finicky engine to it's core).
@@bokiNYC yep I miss mine now too. I rebuild 3 of them. When they recalled the bikes due to the faulty orange case sealant, dealers did some crazy things to get rid of them. A lot of bikes they ground the vin numbers and sold them as is. I bought mine brand new with a scratched vin and the bad sealant. I can’t believe how luck this was, I found a brand new sxv550 frame with the vin and title on eBay for $300 !!! I bought it then rebuilt the engine and derestricted it. Put it back together and had an awesome bike.
Aprilia should re-release the Motard range.
no motard will ever rip like the 550. Vtwin on a light dirt bike frame. It was truly made for the supermoto championship and later sold to the public but would never be as profitable as a mono cylinder. 2004-5 was definitely more of a "have fun" approach. That's why aprilia will never release another SXV. Sadly not a business oriented project..

Der 690er Motor ist sehr robust , Baujahr 2014 80000km bis jetzt noch keine Probleme.
It' has 85 hp and revs past 11,000.
It shares engine internals with the twice as large Pagnigale Vtwin. The piston is twice as large as the stroke. I was hoping it would be bare roadrace style like Duxati singles in the 1960's but this urban warrior look is awesome.
not far of, but its actually 77hp and 10k rpm tops

The engine is a new design from the ground up.
Any attempt to say it shares parts with the Panigale is just word salad to get people to buy into the idea a supermoto is also part superbike. It's mental association, it's factual foolishness. Just like people saying the Aprilia RS660 is "half a RSV4 engine". It's factually false. People cannot appreciate an engine for what it inherently is, without some reference to a superbike.
Really hoping to see an ultralight adventure version of this bike released to crush the market filled with heavyweight twins.
Yup they just needed to make the dual sport version like husky 701… but they wont. The 701 exists and has for a decade but the adv market is alive and well, not crushed in the least.
@@Weltbummler23 I suspect the 701 could also be the sales leader if they re-worked it for adventure trim over dirt bike trim. Who wants to buy a pricey bike then have to add a tank, a seat and a windscreen.
@@mikeisland7382 adding a cushy seat and windscreen is easy enough, tho the seat is a bit pricey. Safari tank is more of a PITA. There was a long range 701 LR with a factory safari tank on the market for a few years but they pulled it 🤷♂️. Other thing they needed to do with the 701 is make a wider ratio gearbox… other than that its really not that far off if you want a lightweight adv. if ducati does make the dual sport version i bet it will come with the same features as the 701.
I wouldn't be surprised if those youngsters would stick themselves to the road so the 698 Mono couldn't pass. Fire the marketer...
That engine has some impressive stats. I really liked the character of my first bike, the OG MT-03, a 660cc single. But that only churned out 48HP.
This commercial however...
Ducati knows what its doing, I imagine they are working on an Adventure bike with this engine, and would be the best in weight to power ratio, could be impressive.
Literally, all the commercial needed to be was just blipping the throttle and letting us hear it. That commercial was trying way too hard. Almost in a woke sense of the world we live in now. Maybe I'm just getting old.

16 years ago Aprilia released a supermoto almost 100 pounds lighter and very similar power. Ducati should have at least made a sub 300 pound bike. The SXV550 is still the king. Just too bad they aren’t reliable
Ah yes, the SX550, still one of my most favorite bikes. Still regret selling it even now some 10 years ago. It was the craziest ride. The only thing I don't miss are 600-mile oil changes and 6000 mile engine rebuilds (putting it in a van and taking it to Nolland since he's the only guy on the East coast that knows how to rebuild them to perfection).

Very price competitive with the 450 supermotos, as well as ktm group 510 and 690 bikes. We'll see when reviews start getting out but this is what I'm more excited about over any of those.

I think it looks really good. But what I’m interested in are:
- Wet weight
- Torque/weight ratio at around 2500RPM
Curious how it compares to my KTM 690 SMC-R
Considering it has a bore of 116mm, I think there will be plenty everywhere in the rev range, especially considering that it also has a 62,4mm storke, there is plenty everywhere. KTM's have a long stroke but small bore which is why they have a lot of torque down low but noting up high. Massive bore combined with a shorter stroke and desmo valves, means you will have torque everywhere, probably not as much as the KTM but still plenty to catapult it out of really tight turns.
If there was ever an advert to make you NOT want to buy a motorcycle, this it.

I'd love to have one... But I feel like they kind of dropped the ball on the price. I wanted one until I saw how much it was If it was a more entry level price under 12k-10k I feel like this would be their #1 selling bike. I get r&d costs with all the hp in a mid sized engine but it's still really cool though
It costs like the competition ktm/husqvarna/gasgas with much more technology in it than the competition

@@apostolodipadova2420 Sure but even if you quadruple the yz valve maintenance you're still doing it 10x more often than the Ducati which is 18,000 miles. Keep that $8k in the bank to pay for all your maintenance if you're actually putting some hours and miles on the bikes riding real roads and not just doing a few miles at the supermoto track.
