Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono - Kiss Your License Goodbye!

  • A new leader in the street-legal supermoto category? Ducati’s Hypermotard 698 Mono is not an entry-level addition to the Hypermotard family. Yes, it’s the smaller-displacement, less-expensive alternative to the Hypermotard 950 V-twin, but it’s also a wicked, eye-opening extension of the family. It’s Ducati’s new approach to the street-legal supermoto category, made possible through an extreme emphasis on light weight, performance, and tech.

    I still think the Hypermotard 1100 was the best street-oriented Supermoto (ish) bike ever made. Could cruise at 85-90mph no problem, electric motor type torque, classic dry clutch sound, Old School Ducati Character.

    All the commenters knocking Ducati "reliability" have never owned one. Yes, in the past they have had major reliability issues. Those days are long gone. Modern Ducati's are not quite as good as Japanese bikes as far as reliability, but definitely out perform them. They also are not nearly as bad as the internet experts that have never even had a ride on one would want you to believe. I own three Ducati's, 950, V4, and a hyper. All have been rock solid, not a single issue. Now parts and maintenance cost... thats a different story. I could by another bike for the cost of a V4 desmo service. Performance mods... unbelievably expensive. But that's the game us pretentious Ducati owners that just buy them for attention play. Yea they are not cheap to buy, or maintain. But who gives a F. You only live once.
    All bikes are cool, I can appreciate a kawi 650 as much as I can a Panagele V4SP. We all have the same hobby, an MT07 is as good as a Streetfighter, just pick your flavor. There is always a plus and minus. But be real, if hate Ducati its because you can't afford one, and thats ok too. Ride a SFV4S and you will want one, I promise you. No real rider can get on a bike like that and decide it's not for them. You ride one, you will buy it, or atleast want to.
    I repspect and like virtually all motorcycles and thier riders.
    Unless you own a Harley then legit your opion on anything motorcycle related is irrelevant.... Brother.
    Its a clown show for wanna be tough guys and old dudes that ride in white Reboks and a bandanna.
    TBH... Indid just order a Mono RVE. The test ride got me hooked. I mean you can wack the throttle open and it holds a wheelie. You can stomp the rear and grab front brake and back it in a corner. If a guy can appreciate that and have fun doing it, do you even really like riding motorcycles?
    Just my humble 2 cents from a Ducati fan boy with middle of the roads skills.

      You don't buy a European bike for reliability... but having said that - modern Ducati's are reliable bikes. have 75,000 miles on my Multi with only routine maintenance. Would not hesitate to buy this bike.

    Ive only ever ridden carbureted, non-electronic motorcycles..since the 1970s. I cannot imagine riding that thing and using those modes to do things I doubt i could do on my own. And at $13k, it is ridiculous but in-line with top of the line European dirt bikes. It’s pretty light, even with a split pipe, which seems too high and heavy to make sense, but otherwise seems awesome. However, since I never rode anything like it, I dont know how much the euro bikes suck in other ways. I turn mine on, can troubleshoot and fix it, and it responds the same way every time...as I expect. There’s comfort and frugality in that. But, yes, I would lose my license on that thing, and perhaps a layer or two of face skin at some point. Looks fun. Would make an awesome dual sport.

    • @NudaMan
      @NudaMan 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You down shift a few gears quickly, the rear wheel kinda skips around a bit and you cover a little bit of the front brake as the bike is trying to drop rpm’s (it’s called “Backing it in”) all the pros do it lol

    • @jimtitt3571
      @jimtitt3571 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Downshift to the gear you want to exit in, unweight the rear with your upper body, adjust the rear wheel slide with the clutch and lift the rear wheel by using the front brake until you reach the apex then nail it and control the wheelspin with body position. Don't practice this on the street, a parking lot is better! Or (as I did on a dirt bike on forest roads).

      @@LammensB The street riders have problems learning it, I come from a dirt-bike so it's not so hard. The usual way to start is by spraying the back tire so it slides real easy, washing-up liquid and water works pretty well or silicone spray. I just started with an over-inflated enduro tyre on the back. Contolling the front tire grip under braking accurately is the trick.

    • @mbscar
      @mbscar 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I get it, some people hate anything with a Ducati label. Ok enjoy your preferred brands… there is no data on the reliability of this bike, so that’s fictional. Your racer comment, supermoto style bikes are fun. Lord forbid a man have fun on his motorcycle… that’s not allowed! if you are a person that wants to get into motorcycle racing. It’s Very expensive to do so and there are a lot of barriers to entry. Supermoto racing/track riding is a less expensive more accessible way to do that. I’ve been aspiring to this myself. In Oregon there are more “tracks” for supermoto style in the state with more frequent opportunity to ride and at literally more than half the cost. Supermoto is cool and good for the sport of motorcycling because it’s more accessible to normal people as a hobby. Granted the Ducati is not a true “supermoto” like a 450. This bike is more practical for everyday use than the majority of motorcycles. It’s lighter, more maneuverable and has sufficient power to cross town on the highway. The riders triangle is larger and vastly more comfortable being more upright. I think this bike is cool, I’m happy Ducati is making it. The base price is actually competitive to bikes in its same class, which is surprising.
