I made a few mistakes in my script, and they were corrected in the updated Iceberg Chart videos. Hub wasn't actually Stillborn. He died of "HBD", when he was roughly a year old. When I was writing the script, I had recently re-watched the Mega Man Death Battle Royale, where they mistakenly say Hub was Stillborn, and it had been a while since I had played that part of BN1, so I made the mistake while writing the script. Bass GS actually isn't a Dark Chip. The other two Bass chips need a Dark Hole or Dark License, but Bass GS does not. "Evil Energy" is a reference to Mega Man 8, and I didn't realize this because I haven't played Mega Man 8 all the way down. The Pikachu Carpet was also in BN1 and BN2. I just forgot about it. "Why wasn't **insert topic here** on the list?" Friendly reminder, I didn't make this Iceberg chart, I just decided to explain it. A lot of these comments I keep seeing are actually included in the NEW Iceberg chart that we as a community put together, if you'd like to check out that video.

In MMBN 1 you can find a family photo with “Lan and a kid who looks like him” and in 3 Mega Man says he remembers fighting against the heart disease that killed him during the hospital arc. I’m not sure when he died but my guess is around 2 or 3 years old, before Lan could remember much but old enough that Mega Man, who’s memory would be improved after becoming a Navi, could comprehend things like being hospitalized for a heart condition
I’m so glad there’s a Mega Man iceberg out here that actually acknowledges the Battle Network manga. It’s such a hidden gem in the external Mega Man media outside of the Archie comics and Ariga’s Megamix and Gigamix series. It also has some fantastic art and one of my favorite portrayals of Bass.EXE. Excellent job overall!

@@chriskurvers99 Well, I warn you now: if you have any familiarity with the Rockman.EXE/Megaman NT Warrior anime...throw that familiarity OUT. The manga story is almost completely different. (For instance, the Battle Network 4/NT Warrior Axess arc skips a LOT of the Double Soul transformations, as does the Battle Network 5/EXE Stream arc. And the Battle Network 6/EXE Beast arc of the manga pretty much ignores all the Crosses in favor of focusing on the Beast Out mode)

Phew, that was a lot of information on a series that I definitely slept on after I played the first game. Very interesting video, my friend. It was neat to hear about a lot of the deeper lore to this series.
You realize that you are in deep into a series when you see the iceberg meme and instantly know what the bottom layer is talking about. Then again this series takes me back to Elementary school and I wish the Legacy Collection would come soon.
MMBN has to have some of the coolest post game content I've ever played in an RPG. Building it all around Bass was such a cool idea, and it feels like he's leveling up with Mega Man each game. I wanted to see what new stuff he could do, and each game didn't disappoint. On top of that, 3 takes the fact Bass is part of the plot, and adds a giant chunk of content and makes Undernet portion another 8-10 hours of game play which really ups the ante of both the plot, and boss design. Serenade and Bass GS are just so cool and thematic that they're my favorite bonus bosses to this day. By 4 and on, the post game is still absolutely packed, but I would say while the plot aspect is weaker the gameplay only improved. I feel like they got much better at making Navi rematches feel less like they turned damage values and hp up on the same AI, and more like actual bonus bosses who use their gimmicks much more strategically. Which with MegaMan getting so much more freedom for play styles with better balanced chips, Double Styles, more PAs that while still broken weren't so broken you're just handicapping yourself not abusing them, Dark Chips and Giga Chips that were really powerful that paid off using them in 4 and 5 among other mechanics the battle system got so good and varied. As an RPG series, they really pushed me to want to do every post game and you really come to love these games because I think they really got a lot of mileage out both the plot and the mechanics to in a way i don't think I've seen a lot of other RPGs do.
The plot really just didn't age well. I loved the series growing up but all of the cliches you can ignore as a kid just become too much eventually. As for the gameplay, I appreciated it growing up but as a whole the star force games just seem to be an improvement to me. Still excited for the remasters and its kinda a good thing that the sequel series improved a lot on the battle network series, but it does make them harder to revisit.
there is another connection point between starforce and BN, in the first starforce game when u go the junkyard u can see a huge pile of thrown away PETs as that technology was outdated and people upgraded to the card system and transceivers
16:15 I'm pretty sure this is actually referring to the evil energy shown in mega man 8. This would make sense seeing as it causes things infected by it to become erratic and evil just like dark chips do in BN. It's suggesting that the battle network universe also has its version of the evil energy just like it's universe as its version of everything else. I'd also say this is further backed up simply because Duo appears in the BN universe and in mainline Mega Man he is directly linked the the evil energy.
It's amazing that these companies were able too pull all of this off back in the day, even if most of the extra content is all over the place, what makes it special is hunting it all down and piecing it all together.
3:00 I don't know if this counts, but there was a scene cut from the American dub of the anime where AquaStyled Megaman beats up Magnetman, and when he punches his stomach, he coughs out something that looks like blood.
Dark fluid that's not vomit. I'd say it counts! I just compared the scenes side by side. Yeah, they REALLY chopped up that whole fight scene in the English version. Like Elecman getting impaled, and Magnetman taking a Buster Shot to the head.
One thing that always mystified me was BN4's Dark License program. It supposedly filled the whole Navi Customizer and its effect was preventing MegaMan from permanently losing one HP upon using Dark Chips. I remember reading about it years ago but never found more info on it since.
Huh. This is the first I'm hearing about one for BN4. I did a quick sweep on Google, and any posts I found say it was either an e-reader card mod, or was only obtainable through cheats or events. Now you have ME curious as well!
Been so long since I've finished the MMBN series, and I only now started to revisit it after recently seeing MMBN memes randomly pop around, which is such a pleasant surprise. What a trip down memory road, you did a great job gushing over the series because I am all here for it and wanna take a deep dive down nostalgia lane too. So good to still see people appreciating and remembering the series. Damn. Time to replay all the games!
I have a Progress PET, and i have to say its pretty fuckin rad. It actually operates as a mini battle network game, cyberspace included. The gameplay is actually a turn based version of the normal BN gameplay. Deffinetly the best PET!
I actually got into the Mega Man franchise as a whole from the NT Warrior manga, which was also my first manga (I was 10 at the time). I was a huge Sonic fan and read the Archie Sonic comics all the time, and I checked out the Sonic and Mega Man crossover, Worlds Collide, from the library. I became intrigued by Mega Man and thought he was really cool, so I put the entire NT Warrior series on hold, thinking they were comic books. One thing led to another, and now I'm an anime and Mega Man junkie! Ironically, even though I've been a fan of the blue bomber for seven-ish years now and I adore the manga, I've never played the Battle Network games. I never really had a way to besides emulation. But now, with the new collection coming to Switch and PS4, I'll have a way to finally get my hands on the games that indirectly shaped my childhood. 💙

Just remembered another potential Mario reference. Episode 1 of the Axess anime features MegaMan throwing down with a pair of semi-generic Navis, one red and the other green. They’re brothers who fight as a tag-team, one armed with hammers and the other spamming Rock Cubes.
I grew up on MMBN and never thought about how big the series was outside the US, I was just a kid just playing the games. Golden Sun and MMBN are my all time fav GB games of all time. This was very entertaining to watch in preparation for the legacy collection that is coming out in april so I can experience it all over again.

I had the Advanced PET, I remember seeing the commercial on TV once when I was a kid, it looked cool. A friend gave the PET and I had fun but shaking the toy really hurt my wrist. TBH I didn't know you could just walk. If I knew that I wouldn't have sore wrists smh.

I'm surprised this iceberg didn't have an entry on DarkLicense, a navicust program in MMBN4 that was E-reader/promo exculsive. It took up the entire 5x5 navicust square and let Megaman use dark chips without losing HP.
All that information to take in is pretty insane. I find it very interesting towards the Megaman Battle network series. The only time I remember playing it was the first game and the sixth game of it. I didn't know what was i doing during the time when I played it but now in present day. I'm currently playing the sixth one since the Cybeasts I find very fascinating creatures they do give off some Maverick like vibes.. the video was entertaining and informative to watch.
Oh, I recently bought the Battle Story Rockman.EXE manga in both editions not long ago for a personal thing (tl;dr - I’m trying to who’d win a fight between Roll and Harp Note, composite style, all things equal, on my own time). I can give you a lowdown on what more or less happens. Can’t promise quality since I can’t read Japanese but the story looks fairly straightforward with a keen eye. What I can tell you about in earnest is the side stories packed with the Tome 01/Tome 02/Tome 03 rerelease of the manga. Each Tome is a mini-omnibus of the main story’s printing (the manga stops just short of Battle Network 4) followed by two short stories. Each Tome has a one of three parts to its adaption of Operate Shooting Star. Tome 01 skips right to both MegaMen slaughtering the hell out of ClockMan with the basic Sword chip and then Geo, Sonia, and Luna come back in time willingly to hang out. Tome 02 has Lan, Mayl, and the Starforce trio going on a shopping trip together, the girls in particular getting to bond. Tome 03 has both MegaMen going off to spar for funsies on their own only for the girls to butt in and have them stop short, the Starforce kids then happily leave for the future after the fun hangout. Then there’s the other side stories. Tome 01 is the adaption of the Nebula Grey fight; long story short, Nebula Grey is using Bass as a power source and Dark Mega/MegaMan DS is filling in for CosmoMan from the other NT Warrior manga. Tome 02 covers how the manga would’ve started the BN5 adaption, blitzing through the Colonel scenario and BlizzardMan’s liberation mission. Tome 03 meanwhile does an alternate, more games-faithful retelling of Battle Network 1 that ends up making a power trio out of MegaMan, ProtoMan, and SharkMan as they fight through WWW’s schemes. It’s a blast.
I recently bought the French version of the Battle Story Manga. Are the extra stories only in the Japanese Reprints? I'd love to get some scans of them to use in my upcoming videos!
@@FlashingBladesProductions It appears to be the case. Searching up Battle Story on Amazon’s Japanese and French platforms turned up different. JP gave me both the original four volumes and the Side Story Tome trilogy while FR only provided the original four prints in their French localization. So I took the Japanese ones since it was more books for a lot less money. Edit: Missed the point of your main question. The side stories are only in the three Tomes, so for Japanese fans only.
Played the 1st one A TON as a kid and was in awe of my friend who had all of them on an emulator. I was so impressed I didn't even think to inquire, and for some reason also never bought sequels... I was thinking back and realized that this is an incredibly rare case of a game that holds up for me to this day, so I'm replaying it and finally finishing the series right now, maybe even 100% it all. Imo it's by far the most elaborately fun and engaging game on the GBA, from strategy to tactics to action to progression, it's my favorite in all departments individually. Now I'm just adding all these videos to my watch later list, something to look forward to even when it's over! I might just replay when the collection drops...
okay, you blew mi mind. My knowledge was limited to localised version of megaman anime (NT and Axess series) aired on Polish Jetix channel. Only by my curiosity i watched Stream series, and not everything was clear. Thanks to this, i see, that despite the fact anime, manga and games are connected to each other, anime is a totally different world with totally different point of view at some things

Fun fact: Mr Famous' Japanese title "Meijin" is an honored title in Japanese cultural arts. Another character who has the same title is Meijin Kawaguchi III in Gundam Build Divers (where it's a title given to the top Gunpla battler in Japan)

I’m loving the resurgence of MMBN. Next to Pokemon, Kirby, and MegaMan Zero, this series is one of my all time faves on the GBA. I sunk countless hours into these games. Specifically MMBN3 and MMBN 5. I remember not being able to settle on a single Style Change and wanting to try every single combination and try to learn every program advance. Then in MMBN5 Team Protoman, I would redo every liberation mission to try and beat it in less turns.
Good times, good times. Yeah, only being able to use one Style Change is my biggest gripe with BN3. BN2 did it better where you can have 2 Style Changes plus Normal Style.
In the first game, in the train station, there's a poster with a crude drawing of a person in red and a person in green, which can easily be recognized as Mario and Luigi.

You can actually get some of the cut chips through gold mystery data in the english version if you're lucky(?). I remember I got HackJack SP through gold mystery data that spawned in the graveyard.

Dark Chips consuming Bugfrags would've been an awesome mechanic. I wish they would've done that for BN4 and 5 rather than than the weird MaxHP loss thing.
20:25 theres another theory regarding Gregar and Gospel that I think makes more sense. MMBN6 starts by describing Gregar and Falzar as ancient beasts, implying that they came into existence near the beginning of the internet. Gospel (the organization) was inspired by this story to create a weapon called Gospel ( the beast) that canonically was absorbed by Bass. Gregar came first and was sealed away until the events of mmbn6 so it can't be the completed form of gospel, which was always just an attempt at recreating Gregar.
I know how to fix the virus encounter problem with the PET toys! So when you shake it you probably hear something rattling inside it. That is a small metal ball that has some cushioning around it and is touching some connectors on the bottom. When you shake the PET and it touches the connectors so many times it sends a signal for you to fight a virus. Unfortunately what happens if it’s shaken to hard is that the metal ball can become dislodged, and not be within the little cushion area it needs to be. But if you simply take off the back screws you can take it apart put it back into place and it’ll start working again!
I remember trying that trick about a decade ago, but it didn't fix the problem. However, I HAVE recently dug out my other 2 PETs, so I may give it a try once I can get some new batteries for them.

I have loved the Battle Network games since I was a boy and I am ecstatic for the Battle Network Collection on Switch. But dude, your knowledge of this franchise is outstanding! My favorite part was when talking about Zero.EXE, you mentioned how Protoman.EXE clearly *ALSO* had design elements from Zero from Mega Man X… I cracked up because I’ve thought that for years and I couldn’t share this thought to anyone else because no one else I know has played Battle Network and they just wouldn’t get it!! Dude I felt so seen in that moment I genuinely laughed out loud. Keep up this AMAZING work, you’ve got a sub from me just from this video. Technically the BassCross in MMBN5 WAS available in NA. The cards for it were just never produced, but it was still in the programming. I know because with the right printer, you can print your own ereader cards, and I did that. I got it in mine.
I HATE the PET toy, I remember getting hysterical as a child because Megaman was defeated and had the sad face, and you had to shake the PET to restore him, but it never worked, and the issue you mentioned with never getting Virus encounters drove me insane also.
Even I'm still learning new things about this series. It was about a week or two ago that I learned that Metal Man's chip in BN4 has an input command that lets you decide where he punches! One thing I don't get Lore wise, though: Serenade is a "Dark Navi". And yet, Serenade's chip description is "Dark Chip: Holy Power Cracks Panels". Usually Holy and Dark are polar opposites, and Dark Mega Man can't use Holy Panels. So, what gives?

Man i wish they would combine all of the game content into one massive remake. I don’t think it would really be that hard with today’s hardware. Can you imagine a convolution of all of the gameplay mechanics throughout the series?! Plus it would allow for tons of new content to be added in to fill the gaps between chapters.

23:10 maybe it is a defense mechanism. Like they aren't actually ghosts but it is meant to scare off people from messing with it. Also the dead Navis in other parts could be just the remains like what happened with Megaman in 3. They could be recovered and rebuilt.
18:24 I found a fix that worked on mine. The contacts oxidize and it counts the steps with a ball bearing. Giving those areas a clean inside fixed the virus encounter thing for me.
Here’s what I personally think about the Zero references: Protoman.EXE is based off of both classic Proto Man and Zero from the X through ZX series. Zero.EXE is based off of Omega from Mega Man Zero 3. Omega is Zero’s original body, corrupted by the main antagonist of that series to use Zero’s full potential as a Maverick, similar to Sigma’s goal in the bad ending of X5. Zero.EXE also takes more design cues from Omega’s appearance compared to how Protoman.EXE takes his from Zero, and Omega was so powerful that his emergence in Zero 3 generated rifts to cyberspace, through which you could gain special weapons and abilities if you linked a Battle Network game to Zero 3. Omega utilizes the power of both the Maverick/Zero Virus and an entity called the Dark Elf to corrupt Humanoids and make them go Maverick, controlling them with his own will.
I think I was somewhere between 12 and 14 when the original came out and I got it for my birthday. I played this and only this for almost the entire year afterward. My birthday in Jan 12 so I was surprised with myself when i grabbed my GBA one day and it was still in there and I had a total of about 370 hours when I did the math lmao Haven't played it since but I'm really really really itching to play it now. Edit: ironically I haven't played a single one of the sequels to it either, but I did go on a Mega Man Zero series binge where I ended up hunting the whole series at my local GameStops and 100 them all just a couple years ago. It's not BN5, if I recall. I'm pretty sure it was BN1. I remember it had the old sprite style. Unless they did it AGAIN in BN5 and I just completely missed it. I need to double check. I don't frequently go into Mayl's house while playing 4 and 5.
Given the crossover with Boktai and cameo of Kojima, could Nation Z possibly be a reference to Zanzibar [Land]? I feel like Regal's cyber eye could also be an obscure reference to Big Boss by that logic.

I’m not sure when he died but my guess is around 2 or 3 years old, before Lan could remember much but old enough that Mega Man, who’s memory would be improved after becoming a Navi, could comprehend things like being hospitalized for a heart condition

I’m so glad there’s a Mega Man iceberg out here that actually acknowledges the Battle Network manga. It’s such a hidden gem in the external Mega Man media outside of the Archie comics and Ariga’s Megamix and Gigamix series. It also has some fantastic art and one of my favorite portrayals of Bass.EXE.

@@chriskurvers99 Well, I warn you now: if you have any familiarity with the Rockman.EXE/Megaman NT Warrior anime...throw that familiarity OUT. The manga story is almost completely different. (For instance, the Battle Network 4/NT Warrior Axess arc skips a LOT of the Double Soul transformations, as does the Battle Network 5/EXE Stream arc. And the Battle Network 6/EXE Beast arc of the manga pretty much ignores all the Crosses in favor of focusing on the Beast Out mode)

Phew, that was a lot of information on a series that I definitely slept on after I played the first game. Very interesting video, my friend. It was neat to hear about a lot of the deeper lore to this series.
You realize that you are in deep into a series when you see the iceberg meme and instantly know what the bottom layer is talking about. Then again this series takes me back to Elementary school and I wish the Legacy Collection would come soon.
MMBN has to have some of the coolest post game content I've ever played in an RPG. Building it all around Bass was such a cool idea, and it feels like he's leveling up with Mega Man each game. I wanted to see what new stuff he could do, and each game didn't disappoint. On top of that, 3 takes the fact Bass is part of the plot, and adds a giant chunk of content and makes Undernet portion another 8-10 hours of game play which really ups the ante of both the plot, and boss design. Serenade and Bass GS are just so cool and thematic that they're my favorite bonus bosses to this day.
By 4 and on, the post game is still absolutely packed, but I would say while the plot aspect is weaker the gameplay only improved. I feel like they got much better at making Navi rematches feel less like they turned damage values and hp up on the same AI, and more like actual bonus bosses who use their gimmicks much more strategically. Which with MegaMan getting so much more freedom for play styles with better balanced chips, Double Styles, more PAs that while still broken weren't so broken you're just handicapping yourself not abusing them, Dark Chips and Giga Chips that were really powerful that paid off using them in 4 and 5 among other mechanics the battle system got so good and varied.
As an RPG series, they really pushed me to want to do every post game and you really come to love these games because I think they really got a lot of mileage out both the plot and the mechanics to in a way i don't think I've seen a lot of other RPGs do.
The plot really just didn't age well. I loved the series growing up but all of the cliches you can ignore as a kid just become too much eventually.
As for the gameplay, I appreciated it growing up but as a whole the star force games just seem to be an improvement to me. Still excited for the remasters and its kinda a good thing that the sequel series improved a lot on the battle network series, but it does make them harder to revisit.

there is another connection point between starforce and BN, in the first starforce game when u go the junkyard u can see a huge pile of thrown away PETs as that technology was outdated and people upgraded to the card system and transceivers

16:15 I'm pretty sure this is actually referring to the evil energy shown in mega man 8. This would make sense seeing as it causes things infected by it to become erratic and evil just like dark chips do in BN. It's suggesting that the battle network universe also has its version of the evil energy just like it's universe as its version of everything else. I'd also say this is further backed up simply because Duo appears in the BN universe and in mainline Mega Man he is directly linked the the evil energy.
It's not nostalgia to say these games were in a category of their own. Nothing even to this day compares to how unique these games were.

3:00 I don't know if this counts, but there was a scene cut from the American dub of the anime where AquaStyled Megaman beats up Magnetman, and when he punches his stomach, he coughs out something that looks like blood.
Dark fluid that's not vomit. I'd say it counts! I just compared the scenes side by side. Yeah, they REALLY chopped up that whole fight scene in the English version. Like Elecman getting impaled, and Magnetman taking a Buster Shot to the head.
One thing that always mystified me was BN4's Dark License program. It supposedly filled the whole Navi Customizer and its effect was preventing MegaMan from permanently losing one HP upon using Dark Chips. I remember reading about it years ago but never found more info on it since.
Huh. This is the first I'm hearing about one for BN4. I did a quick sweep on Google, and any posts I found say it was either an e-reader card mod, or was only obtainable through cheats or events. Now you have ME curious as well!
Been so long since I've finished the MMBN series, and I only now started to revisit it after recently seeing MMBN memes randomly pop around, which is such a pleasant surprise. What a trip down memory road, you did a great job gushing over the series because I am all here for it and wanna take a deep dive down nostalgia lane too. So good to still see people appreciating and remembering the series. Damn. Time to replay all the games!
I have a Progress PET, and i have to say its pretty fuckin rad. It actually operates as a mini battle network game, cyberspace included. The gameplay is actually a turn based version of the normal BN gameplay. Deffinetly the best PET!

I actually got into the Mega Man franchise as a whole from the NT Warrior manga, which was also my first manga (I was 10 at the time).
I was a huge Sonic fan and read the Archie Sonic comics all the time, and I checked out the Sonic and Mega Man crossover, Worlds Collide, from the library. I became intrigued by Mega Man and thought he was really cool, so I put the entire NT Warrior series on hold, thinking they were comic books. One thing led to another, and now I'm an anime and Mega Man junkie!
Ironically, even though I've been a fan of the blue bomber for seven-ish years now and I adore the manga, I've never played the Battle Network games. I never really had a way to besides emulation. But now, with the new collection coming to Switch and PS4, I'll have a way to finally get my hands on the games that indirectly shaped my childhood. 💙

Just remembered another potential Mario reference. Episode 1 of the Axess anime features MegaMan throwing down with a pair of semi-generic Navis, one red and the other green. They’re brothers who fight as a tag-team, one armed with hammers and the other spamming Rock Cubes.
I grew up on MMBN and never thought about how big the series was outside the US, I was just a kid just playing the games. Golden Sun and MMBN are my all time fav GB games of all time. This was very entertaining to watch in preparation for the legacy collection that is coming out in april so I can experience it all over again.

I had the Advanced PET, I remember seeing the commercial on TV once when I was a kid, it looked cool. A friend gave the PET and I had fun but shaking the toy really hurt my wrist. TBH I didn't know you could just walk. If I knew that I wouldn't have sore wrists smh.

I'm surprised this iceberg didn't have an entry on DarkLicense, a navicust program in MMBN4 that was E-reader/promo exculsive. It took up the entire 5x5 navicust square and let Megaman use dark chips without losing HP.
All that information to take in is pretty insane. I find it very interesting towards the Megaman Battle network series. The only time I remember playing it was the first game and the sixth game of it. I didn't know what was i doing during the time when I played it but now in present day. I'm currently playing the sixth one since the Cybeasts I find very fascinating creatures they do give off some Maverick like vibes.. the video was entertaining and informative to watch.
Oh, I recently bought the Battle Story Rockman.EXE manga in both editions not long ago for a personal thing (tl;dr - I’m trying to who’d win a fight between Roll and Harp Note, composite style, all things equal, on my own time). I can give you a lowdown on what more or less happens. Can’t promise quality since I can’t read Japanese but the story looks fairly straightforward with a keen eye.
What I can tell you about in earnest is the side stories packed with the Tome 01/Tome 02/Tome 03 rerelease of the manga. Each Tome is a mini-omnibus of the main story’s printing (the manga stops just short of Battle Network 4) followed by two short stories. Each Tome has a one of three parts to its adaption of Operate Shooting Star. Tome 01 skips right to both MegaMen slaughtering the hell out of ClockMan with the basic Sword chip and then Geo, Sonia, and Luna come back in time willingly to hang out. Tome 02 has Lan, Mayl, and the Starforce trio going on a shopping trip together, the girls in particular getting to bond. Tome 03 has both MegaMen going off to spar for funsies on their own only for the girls to butt in and have them stop short, the Starforce kids then happily leave for the future after the fun hangout.
Then there’s the other side stories. Tome 01 is the adaption of the Nebula Grey fight; long story short, Nebula Grey is using Bass as a power source and Dark Mega/MegaMan DS is filling in for CosmoMan from the other NT Warrior manga. Tome 02 covers how the manga would’ve started the BN5 adaption, blitzing through the Colonel scenario and BlizzardMan’s liberation mission. Tome 03 meanwhile does an alternate, more games-faithful retelling of Battle Network 1 that ends up making a power trio out of MegaMan, ProtoMan, and SharkMan as they fight through WWW’s schemes. It’s a blast.
I recently bought the French version of the Battle Story Manga. Are the extra stories only in the Japanese Reprints? I'd love to get some scans of them to use in my upcoming videos!
@@FlashingBladesProductions It appears to be the case. Searching up Battle Story on Amazon’s Japanese and French platforms turned up different. JP gave me both the original four volumes and the Side Story Tome trilogy while FR only provided the original four prints in their French localization. So I took the Japanese ones since it was more books for a lot less money.
Edit: Missed the point of your main question. The side stories are only in the three Tomes, so for Japanese fans only.
Played the 1st one A TON as a kid and was in awe of my friend who had all of them on an emulator. I was so impressed I didn't even think to inquire, and for some reason also never bought sequels... I was thinking back and realized that this is an incredibly rare case of a game that holds up for me to this day, so I'm replaying it and finally finishing the series right now, maybe even 100% it all. Imo it's by far the most elaborately fun and engaging game on the GBA, from strategy to tactics to action to progression, it's my favorite in all departments individually. Now I'm just adding all these videos to my watch later list, something to look forward to even when it's over! I might just replay when the collection drops...

okay, you blew mi mind. My knowledge was limited to localised version of megaman anime (NT and Axess series) aired on Polish Jetix channel. Only by my curiosity i watched Stream series, and not everything was clear. Thanks to this, i see, that despite the fact anime, manga and games are connected to each other, anime is a totally different world with totally different point of view at some things

Most comprehensive documentary on bn series
I’m loving the resurgence of MMBN. Next to Pokemon, Kirby, and MegaMan Zero, this series is one of my all time faves on the GBA. I sunk countless hours into these games. Specifically MMBN3 and MMBN 5. I remember not being able to settle on a single Style Change and wanting to try every single combination and try to learn every program advance. Then in MMBN5 Team Protoman, I would redo every liberation mission to try and beat it in less turns.
Good times, good times. Yeah, only being able to use one Style Change is my biggest gripe with BN3. BN2 did it better where you can have 2 Style Changes plus Normal Style.
In the first game, in the train station, there's a poster with a crude drawing of a person in red and a person in green, which can easily be recognized as Mario and Luigi.

20:25 theres another theory regarding Gregar and Gospel that I think makes more sense. MMBN6 starts by describing Gregar and Falzar as ancient beasts, implying that they came into existence near the beginning of the internet. Gospel (the organization) was inspired by this story to create a weapon called Gospel ( the beast) that canonically was absorbed by Bass. Gregar came first and was sealed away until the events of mmbn6 so it can't be the completed form of gospel, which was always just an attempt at recreating Gregar.

I know how to fix the virus encounter problem with the PET toys! So when you shake it you probably hear something rattling inside it. That is a small metal ball that has some cushioning around it and is touching some connectors on the bottom. When you shake the PET and it touches the connectors so many times it sends a signal for you to fight a virus. Unfortunately what happens if it’s shaken to hard is that the metal ball can become dislodged, and not be within the little cushion area it needs to be. But if you simply take off the back screws you can take it apart put it back into place and it’ll start working again!
I remember trying that trick about a decade ago, but it didn't fix the problem. However, I HAVE recently dug out my other 2 PETs, so I may give it a try once I can get some new batteries for them.

This is such a fantastic video, I am so happy that this popped up on my home page. I have loved the Battle Network games since I was a boy and I am ecstatic for the Battle Network Collection on Switch. But dude, your knowledge of this franchise is outstanding! My favorite part was when talking about Zero.EXE, you mentioned how Protoman.EXE clearly *ALSO* had design elements from Zero from Mega Man X… I cracked up because I’ve thought that for years and I couldn’t share this thought to anyone else because no one else I know has played Battle Network and they just wouldn’t get it!! Technically the BassCross in MMBN5 WAS available in NA. The cards for it were just never produced, but it was still in the programming. I know because with the right printer, you can print your own ereader cards, and I did that. I got it in mine.
I HATE the PET toy, I remember getting hysterical as a child because Megaman was defeated and had the sad face, and you had to shake the PET to restore him, but it never worked, and the issue you mentioned with never getting Virus encounters drove me insane also.

Even I'm still learning new things about this series. It was about a week or two ago that I learned that Metal Man's chip in BN4 has an input command that lets you decide where he punches!
One thing I don't get Lore wise, though:
Serenade is a "Dark Navi". And yet, Serenade's chip description is "Dark Chip: Holy Power Cracks Panels".
Usually Holy and Dark are polar opposites, and Dark Mega Man can't use Holy Panels. So, what gives?

Man i wish they would combine all of the game content into one massive remake. I don’t think it would really be that hard with today’s hardware. Can you imagine a convolution of all of the gameplay mechanics throughout the series?! Plus it would allow for tons of new content to be added in to fill the gaps between chapters.

I found a fix that worked on mine. The contacts oxidize and it counts the steps with a ball bearing. Giving those areas a clean inside fixed the virus encounter thing for me.
Here’s what I personally think about the Zero references:
Protoman.EXE is based off of both classic Proto Man and Zero from the X through ZX series.
Zero.EXE is based off of Omega from Mega Man Zero 3. Omega is Zero’s original body, corrupted by the main antagonist of that series to use Zero’s full potential as a Maverick, similar to Sigma’s goal in the bad ending of X5. Zero.EXE also takes more design cues from Omega’s appearance compared to how Protoman.EXE takes his from Zero, and Omega was so powerful that his emergence in Zero 3 generated rifts to cyberspace, through which you could gain special weapons and abilities if you linked a Battle Network game to Zero 3. Omega utilizes the power of both the Maverick/Zero Virus and an entity called the Dark Elf to corrupt Humanoids and make them go Maverick, controlling them with his own will.
I think I was somewhere between 12 and 14 when the original came out and I got it for my birthday. I played this and only this for almost the entire year afterward. My birthday in Jan 12 so I was surprised with myself when i grabbed my GBA one day and it was still in there and I had a total of about 370 hours when I did the math lmao Haven't played it since but I'm really really really itching to play it now.
Edit: ironically I haven't played a single one of the sequels to it either, but I did go on a Mega Man Zero series binge where I ended up hunting the whole series at my local GameStops and 100 them all just a couple years ago. Lol. Guess what I'm going to do
