  • @val3fore2
    @val3fore2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    Drove these and the Colorado Z71. At $50k the Chevy/GMC are a no brainer BUT I wanted to point out a major ace up the sleeve for the Frontier that is actually making this a difficult decision for me. The driving "feel". The hydraulic steering and suspension on the Frontier felt significantly better while driving. I felt numb and disconnected on the Chevy/GMC but loved everything else about them, especially the tech, interior quality, looks and performance. Since driving is what i'll be doing 99% of the time, I'm actually leaning toward the Pro4x IF I can get one at a reasonable price (around the $38k msrp) if not, I'm likely going with the z71. I'm also fortunate enough to have an M2 Comp as well when I want the luxury/performance so it's not needed in my work horse.

    • @ToddCotta
      @ToddCotta  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The PRO4X in this video is a replacement buy back trade from Nissan. Dustin's original Nissan Frontier was red. At 50 miles the motor would overheat and then go into limp mode. Nissan bought his back and he got this.

    fuel consumed mpg 3.6 / 4.4

    conclusion for towing equal weights and mph:

Equally equipped the Frontier is thousands less expensive and for that reason it’s a close call. Agree with the steering wheel being outdated on the Frontier. Smoother engine with the V6. Comments online always make me chuckle. Yes the host of this video has a bias, but we see that in a lot of videos where the hosts include their own personal vehicle. Both of these trucks are killer vehicles and will do 99% of anything anyone would ever need to do. Is there a better truck? Yes, the Canyon is a better truck. It's that simple. But does "better" mean its the only choice? Or that somehow the Nissan is bad? No, they're both incredible. One might be better but that doesn't mean the other is any less ideal for someone wanting to buy a midsize truck. You literally can't go wrong with either.

    I work at a gmc dealership and boy does the new canyons feel much nicer than the previous gens. Very comfortable to drive in. I always criticized on how small the steering wheel is and how the steering wheel feels because it has that weird leather feel on all gmc trucks, but too me the steering wheel on the new canyons are bigger in size and the grip on it is great too. Driving gmc on a daily I feel like the steering wheel feels a little heavy or stiff while turning. Definetly not the new canyon I would get the canyon at4, however I want to wait until the new 2024 tacoma gets released and see what new specs are on those, especially if it comes with a hybrid engine.

    Best comparison video that I've seen so far. I can tell you I was leaning toward the Nissan but after your review and comments I may have to relook at the GMC. 2024 will be an interesting year as Ford ,Honda and Toyota are refreshing their midsize pickups, and from what I hear, possibly Nissan doing a refresh to keep up. I think the NA engine in the Nissan is a big plus since GM hasn't had a good history with their turbo engines. However it seems the market and manufacturers are leaning toward the 4 cyl turbo charged offerings in this category. I wished the Frontier would come out lifted from the factory, but I know I can add 1.5" to it with an aftermarket kit that's reasonably priced.

      I stated while I was driving the Frontier, smooth ride, good acceleration and comfortable. Does better? Really there is NOTHING the Nissan does better, even Dustin admitted that. Using old parts like the AC and steering wheel. bad button placement. Nissan has better parts in their bin at the factory, but chose to recycle old ones. Even the bed pales in comparison to the GMC. Thanks for the observation.

      Todd had to either be "that guy" or give a dishonest review. The truth seemed apparent: in pretty much every category the AT4 is a superior product. Wonder how far you had to look for a frontier without a bedliner or the utility track system. Went to 4 different nissan dealers and did not find one without a liner. plus the canyon is loaded the frontier is not. plus I didnt know gm found a new way for #s to look on a dashboard. I specifically stated that this was not the loaded PRO4X which is only $2-3000 less than GMC. But it has same dash and motor as the loaded truck. I don't concern myself too much with large mileage numbers because I never keep trucks that long. I move on to the next one. I also wanted a natural aspirating V6 engine and Nissan has the best hp for that, I do gotta say though the new Colorado and canyons are nice especially with the more powerful hp and torque. GM has upped their game and I don’t know if Toyota will reach those power train numbers with a turbo engine ( it will be close) but I think it will go more towards fuel efficiency with a hybrid. The drag race was a joke. Young guy had no idea how to start. ( Top Fuel uhhhh no ) you should have driven the Nissan and actually tried.
    Analog tach and speedometer last longer . Touch screens , they are ridiculously expensive when they go out. GMC was dash is too busy.
    The interior looks nicer on the GMC . But things like the steering wheel being unchanged, if it ain't broke don't fix it.
    The manufacturers are using turbos 4's because they are cheaper to pass emissions with the power. Not because they are better. Like front wheel drive, it's cheaper, not better. Never seen a turbo 4 in a dually or F250/350 , 3500/2500 . Heavy duty and durability needs to be as understressed as possible, like a naturally aspirated medium sized V6 .
    I looked at all the midsized trucks and for the money the Frontier 4x4 SV Long Bed ( tow package standard) was a better deal . The spare tires hang out? I have bed lighting and an outlet for 39.5k

      I said many nice things about the NISSAN. Just know that this was his second truck because the first Frontier they purchased was lemon lawed. The Nissan is a good truck but the interior is inferior, although It does have better back seat storage, but leg room is the same. And finally, It is a good work truck, the GMC Not so much. It is not not as refined and elegant as the GMC. Price is maybe a few thousand less for top tier trucks, but resale is better for the GMC. Thanks for commenting!

    GM has a hot product! I ordered a colorado zr2 and can't wait for it to arrive! As of right now, the new midsize truck king are these new canyons/colorados.
    Let's see how toyota and ford will respond! Competition is good for consumers!

      I didn't order mine. It was a spec truck ordered by the dealership. They don't do markups, so maybe GM was giving then first allocation. Yes, GM stopped sending out production dates to the buyers who ordered, probably to stop the avalanche of contact requests when times change. Thanks for the question!

      @Jeff Hotaling I ordered early March 2023. My production week was 04/14.
      I am currently waiting on a call back from my sales guy to see if any new updates or changes have happened (even push back dates). I ordered from a dealership here in Central fl and they sell at msrp.

    It's interesting to watch, especially in retrospect, knowing what later experiences you had with Canyon. I think both trucks are not the ideal place for rear passengers. Perhaps the Canyon is better at this (airflow and space), but mid-size trucks are not made for this - no one (except possibly children) will miss a ride in the backseat.
    I like the previous version of the Canyon better - maybe it was outdated, maybe bland, but the new one - I feel like this - is more of a computer on wheels than a truck. But for someone upgrading from a larger truck, the Canyon may be just the right size.
    Of the two (Canyon and Frontier), I would choose the Frontier, but the extended cab version (Canyon no longer offers it) for myself and my partner, and to transport more people, I would probably choose something other than a mid-size truck. In the new version of Frontier, I don't like the hood raised too high at the front, which limits visibility. Everything else is great including the sound of the engine, although the 4.0 engine has an even nicer sound, but they don't offer it anymore.

      I ended up with the frontier and love it. The canyon and other turbo 4s were definitely nice and I’m sure are pretty reliable.
      The deciding factor for me was I am planning on owning for atleast a decade if not longer and felt more comfortable with the v6.

    In the real world, you’re comparing a $52000 truck (GMC) to a $40000 truck (Nissan). Value comes to mind as well

    • @ToddCotta
      @ToddCotta  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I said that in the video, but you can build a $46k AT4 and $46K Frontier. So it is not that simple. Plainly stated, the top line of the Nissan does not have an interior nearly as nice as the base model GMC Canyon Elevation. Nissan is just not as refined as the Canyon. Thanks for watching!

    That GMC is bad ass but the reliability with the turbo on a 4 banger on a truck is worrisome just because its fast does not mean it is strong BIG DIFFRENCE Nissan all the way for reliability and price.

    • @ToddCotta

  • @Offshore1977

    Both are great trucks. Price wise, the Frontier is more affordable (dealers work with you on price) and I prefer the adjustable bed rails over fixed points. Off road wise the Canyon is better though I prefer the manual locker in the Nissan over the GM G80.
    Reliability wise I give the nod to Nissan.
    I prefer the GM’s technology but there can be a lot of glitches with that technology.
    Again both are great and have their advantages.

    The bigger and taller the midsizers, the more appealing they are. Why? Because they are now resembling the full sizers of the 90s but with better gas mileage and all the new techy things. Practicality has become in style again with all these aircraft carriers out there...

    • @ToddCotta

      That's why the next generation of Ridgeline (which just got bigger) Santa Fe, and Maverick are the next small truck. If this Canyon was the same size as my 1998 S10, I would not have purchased it and went to a larger truck like the Sierra. All vehicles get bigger because they want to beat their competitors. Here is a prediction the new 2024 Tacoma will be larger than the outgoing model. That is just how the industry works. Thanks for your comment!

    • @Kazewarrior

      @Todd Cotta Oh I hope so; it better be bigger, sharper lines, non-circular vents, better seating position and a tranny that doesn't hunt for gears or I'm copying you lol. I hate that that big ugly rectangle of a grill is growing on me. Hey were you in 2 or 4wd for that launch?

    • @ToddCotta
      @ToddCotta  ปีที่แล้ว

      Guess what, Digital screens are all over the PRO 4X also. So that is a wash. And I could option the Nissan up to my price with just a few clicks and still have the same engine, interior (except leather) back seat and bed. Nothing changes, but Cloth and some bed rails. So I still say Nissan is not making a truck that appeals to people who want a good looking interior. Thanks for watching
