- A guide to the first steps in the Conquerors of the Atlas endgame in Path of Exile - how to start off on the endgame Atlas quest, find Zana, find Citadels & hunt down Conquerors to get your first 4 Watchstones to begin upgrading your atlas. This will let you progress onto the next steps of upgrading your Atlas, get more Watchstones & unlock yellow and red tier maps!

I feel like an idiot. I completed all tier 1 through 5 on the atlas and couldn't understand why higher tier maps didn't drop. Thanks for the guide, I'll crawl into a hole and hide.
dont feel too bad, GGG created an overly-complex atlas system then provided zero information on how to use it.
You're not an idiot. The whole system is stupidly convoluted for absolutely no reason whatsoever.

This new system is kind of stupid. Not intuitive, old atlas at least made some sense in the way of progression (although you need to know atlas mechanics for map drops, shaper/elder influence, etc...)

Finally someone who actually has a clue about how the mechanics work and how to explain it.
PSA for people who are stuck and unable to spawn all citadels: If you started the questline on one character then switched, it's currently bugged.
To get all the Citadels (8/8), log to your original character and run the maps for the specific zone you want the citadel in, on atleast Tier 3+, and you will have a 100% chance of spawning the Citadel in that current zone.
Took me 24 hours of failing to spawn my last citadels before I got this info.

do you know of another bug which can cause this. I have 80+ map progress, 10+ watchstones. But still missing 2 Citadels. Its annoying and weird.

My bugg was caused by what I decribed above, and it fixed it.

Unless you put your watchstone in said citadel and can't get it out cause the citadel has disappeared... and the conquerer portal doesn't open. gg GGG :(

Yep did the same thing. The only clue I had about this not working (besides there being no tier 6+ drops) was that my sextants didn't apply to the regions they were supposed to apply to :P
Oh well, a few hickups are to be expected with a revamped atlas, but hopefully GGG will explain it better down the road so new/returning players won't do the same :D

Im playing SSF and just got to maps, and I don't understand the atlas yet, so this video helps me tremendously :)
Any idea when Part 2 of this will come out? This cleared up a lot of info for me though to get started into more endgame mapping. Might make this new atlas more enjoyable.

Ahhh... I just hit my first altar and was wondering what I was supposed to do with it. I thought that was going to lead to my first boss dude fight. I'm guessing you can socket and unsocket the stones willingly like gems, jewels, and everything else in this game that gets plugged into a hole? Lol.

Seems a bit more involved than the shaper system but easier to do as it doesn't rely on getting a specific map in order to progress. The lack of the right map was always the progression lock for me as a SSF player so this is looking like a good change.
This is pretty much the reason I have only killed uber elder 1 time. So infuriating chasing specific maps and pushing influence around a map just to have access to a boss EVERY time.
@John Wick why spoil the fun and challenge of SSF by playing trade of exile though?

Great! was just wondering how to advance past my first 2 watchstones and this appears in my sub box!
Little point though, I think I was able to use just 2 maps, I ran one of them twice back to back to trigger the three taunts
Shifting back between them could work, maybe it only cares about it being not the same as the most recent taunting. Interesting!

With all the mechanics piling on from different leagues, great to know now even endgame is completely different and even more complicated
Something to consider is that the location of the watch tower will affect the map you need to run in order to get to the conqueror fight, so pick maps you want to do later. Getting an annoying map like Cage, that takes time to get through, is going to be the one you have to keep going through if you get a tower on it. So picking the right maps to have the towers show up on will help in the long run, as that's the map Zana will send you to. With the latest patch it's even easier since Zana will show up on the first Tier 3+ map you do in an area without a tower.
Just to save other people from making my mistake, if you get a guardian's quest (crusader for instance) finish that guardian's quest before doing other corners cause you cant have 2 running at once(at least not at first)

It is super confusing for those casual players that only play the start of leagues. This helped a lot though thats for sure.
It feels like a game they keep adding new ideas to and now it's a big cluster fuck with almost no explanations.

Im sustaining t16 maps like a champ by only doin maps with chisles and alch only.
Only bought 2 maps from other people and i have 145/154 and working on my 21. Watchstone.
I love this new atlas. Its smooth progression by just playing and less planning.
only damn problem i have with like 8 watchstones obtained is sustaining yellow maps.. i dont get enough to start progressing to the red tier..
Same... and i got no clue how you are supposed to close the gap from tier 1 to tier 2 regions.... there are a 2-3 map tier gap... it makes no fucking sense to me.
Make sure your getting 60+ quant on each map try and use Chisels on each map and also try and use sac fragments for even more quant do that and u will easily reach and sustain red maps
@1Life2Little that doesnt seem to be a problem if you start start your atlas just progress to the 4 corners then start putting the first 4 watchstone into the 4 inner regions of the atlas. that way you'll have a smooth overlap of t4 t5 maps. afterwards use the 4 inner watchstones on the corners again. then you can progress into yellow maps, if they drop ofc.

Damn this is complicated, I will take some time to get used to but it's worth it, this league is awesome!
It's more steps, but the process is actually a lot less finicky than having to corral Elder influence all the time.
Mendicant Bias yea a lot of people are complaining about it but I like this system 1,000 more times than the old atlas. In fact I have played more of the endgame this patch than any other updates to the game in about 2 years.

funny, i have 12 watchstones and most of the things i already knew, but now im at a point where i seemingly cant progress, new maps are extremely rare and i wanted to know how to overcome this and in the last 30 seconds you tell me that this comes in the next vid xd

You can type the region name in the search bar in your map tab, and it will highlight all the maps you own in that region.

They can upgrade the maps by more than 1 each. It's between 1 and 3 levels. Otherwise great guide, thanks!
A better tip how to find maps for each region, simple write the region name in the stash search bar and it will highlight the maps inside the stash tab.
6:30 I had no idea you could swap around maps to try and get a different +1... I thought +1s were al fixed and I was wondering how I should be progressing my atlas SSF style
A few leagues ago they made it so that you could swap another of the same map to get the other +1 map linked on the atlas, instead of just limiting you to the one above it, now you can get both. It's nice to get upgraded maps, although just running Zana missions and resetting her inventory is a lot faster in getting bulk maps.
You can search regions in the stash tab tho
BECAUSE THERE WAS NO UPDATE OF THIS VID AFTER 3 MONTHS : Essential missing thing here: when you insert a keystone in an area, the location of maps in the atlas change as well as the tier. So you can find 2 volcano maps : tier 3, from when you didnt have inserted stones, to tier 6 yellow, from a drop in some different map after inserting a stone. When you try to find a guardian, you have to have map version with the correct tier. I dindt understood at first and got the "The tier of this map is too low ..." when inserting the volcano level 3 map. Until i found a volcano level 6 map i didnt understood and coulndt find a good reference for this mechanic. Well now there is :)
Do those 3 taunt runs have to be at once, or can i run other maps in between?

I did the mistake to socket a portion of the atlas with 4 watchstones and i ran a map on it and got taunted. Once that happenned I couldn't remove the watchstones and somehow got stuck on my progression. I had to run 2 other high tier maps and defeat brox which took my about 20 mins with undergear and level.

i have like half the stones now and im just jackshit confused now on when or how to trigger the "taunts" so im just throwing in some red maps here nad there and hopes it triggers xD

I am at the same point, 8 watchstones in and i dont know where to go. Going 4/4 into a citadel and i havnt been getting red maps either. im going to start completing all maps i havnt yet to try to progress but im at a bit of a loss :P

ah so that was my mistake, i thought i had to follow the 'obtained' ruleset from the watchstone'holder' on the left of the atlas, did you naturally figure this out, or did i miss a clue? because not until you have all four regions fully unlocked, the quest tells you to keep doing corner reqions up until the 8th stone.
Hey Ziggy, thanks for the tutorial. Any idea what the thing on the left is on the Atlas screen? It starts pulsing for you when you have a watchstone on the mouse cursor and you can actually socket it there.

Oh jesus I did it all wrong.
I buffed the outer reagions first and wondered, why its so hard to drop higher tier maps.
Figures.
Biggest plus of the new system- you are no longer limited to a couple of maps per tier, meaning that while leveling you would run the same maps constantly. Now entire atlas is tier 1-5
Biggest con- you are running pretty much the same maps constantly, but on different difficulties.
Can you make a guide how to hunt conquerers without Areal crashes and progress Reset? I still couldnt fight a single one because my game would crash right after opening the map

I have completed all T5s and buy all my T6+ maps from Zana. All connected maps from corner to centre are +2 or +3 and getting the +2 maps is tedious. Not sure what GGG expects us to do.

so im new in this game and my question is i dont need to unlock all the maps cuz of the bonus before i upgrade the tier?
So that's the correct strategy. I just have been cluelessly running all kinds of different maps for Atlas completion and when I randomly encountered my first 2 conquerors, I was like - "Shit, so this must be some sort of a boss battle."
After getting my first 4 i started getting watchstones in the middle areas just kinda randomly, after i got 8 watchstones i haven't been able to get anything to happen. I know i am missing something does anyone know what i have to do?
So would I... What's next? (and yes, I'm new to PoE)

Ziggy I got Sirus spawn, didn't even know how. It happened after I killed the last conqueror that requierd zone level 3. I messed up the fight, wasted all 6 portals and now conquerors don't want to spawn in areas with level 4 and I can't get watchstones. Usually they spawned right away if the zone was correct level. But after that fight it's all gone and I can't progress. Please address it in your new video.

Do you have to unlock all tier 1 maps before progressing to tier 2, then unlock all maps then tier 3? Like the old atlas. Or, you need to run the maps when ever a new one drops?
