- Y'Mine McClanahan says she was turned away from a steakhouse due to what the steakhouse claimed was her "inappropriate attire." She was told two-piece outfit was against the restaurant's dress code. A dress code posted on the restaurant's website calls for business casual and not revealing clothes. In a statement, the restaurant says it was following its policy.

The manager was not wearing a tank top. She was wearing a sleeveless shirt which is totally different. This distinction is made in public schools as well. They allow sleeveless shirts which covers more of the shoulder and do not allow tank tops which reveal more skin. Her dress was appropriate for the restaurant considering their waitstaff look like they work at nightclubs.

Same, only I'm in my 30's and plus size. 200lbs. I've been treated so poorly everywhere I went, including my old job, that it affected me mentally and emotionally. My anxiety got so bad that I couldn't return to work because I was afraid that I would be mistreated and plotted against like I was at my old job. I haven't worked in a year. Fat shaming is so bad in this society, man. Everyone can't handle that pressure.

I’m not her size but still a thicker woman, especially my bottom half, my thinner co-workers would wear the same exact items of clothing as me and I was the only one who would be spoken to, I get dressing for your size however in certain establishments enact a dress code that does not exclude anyone I wasn’t in see-through or midriffs but me wearing tighter pants and a thinner or flatter woman wearing tighter pants should not be viewed differently by businesses

My last job allowed multiple slim people to use tight stretch pants that revealed all of the slim person's curves (rear end and front parts), but once a young lady of size wore them, she was told it was inappropriate for her! Double standard! 😖

I agree. They can also have something on hand if someone doesn’t meet the dress code. Many restaurants have sport coats for men and an adjustable shawl or scarf for a woman would be very easy.

They may see it as restaurant management stopping an insufficiently clad customer from being a patron; if she'd been a size 8 or less, her exposed chest area would have been less noticeable, though. As the outfit was STRAPLESS, the manager may have been concerned about a wardrobe malfunction, too.

as in she thinks of herself as just a woman. A nurse, maybe a mother or sister or wife - I'm sure she has many things about her that she considers more important than her weight. Plus size doesn't have to be someone's personality. She knows she's fat - she obviously knows what the sizing chart says when she picks clothes, she just didn't think it was an important part of her as a person to the point where she constantly has to walk into every building hyper-conscious of her weight.
She had a cute appropriate dress on. And manager and staff should follow the rules before imposing them on others.

And weight discrimination is alive and kicking in Florida. I've been trying to get a job since April. I have over 20 years experience in banking, 11 years experience in hotel industry, 7 years experience in Food and Beverage and all of that adds up to almost 40 years of customer service experience. I think I'm not getting hired because I'm obese and have a disability. This is definitely a wake up call to lose weight; otherwise, I'm screwed.

The restaurant is called Stabs Steakhouse and seafood in baton rouge louisanna. Just looking at the reviews it sounds like a lot of customers have had run ins with the owner/manager. In this economy, I don't fortell this place being open for much longer!

i’d never forget the day when i was 12 that i was told that i couldn’t wear my little red riding hood costume because it was “too short” but would allow a skinner student to wear a school skirt that was shorter than my costume. i never worn dresses and skirts ever since that day. i’m finally starting to wear it again, but it took me so much for me to gain the confidence to wear it.
My question is why is it taking them a few weeks to upgrade their employee dress code? That sounds like a copout excuse.

If the notice has been up for weeks, all it takes is one over night memo to staff. "Please wear long black skirts, and or pants, with non revealing tops". SUE for discrimination. That manager was just a Karen! I bet the main issue was that the consumer was a certain skin color, I would not be surprised if there was consumers in there with more revealing clothes on.
This is exactly the same situation when I was in high school. The skinny girls would get away with wearing mesh crop tops with the entire bra showing with booty shorts, but if me, someone who is plus sized, wore a jumpsuit that had spaghetti straps, all hell broke loose and I'D get written up. It's not about upholding rules, it's basic discrimination.
So...? A slim girl may be less offputting for the customer eating at the neighbouring table
