Hey Jayvee, I enjoyed your reaction... You're 'Right On' in you interpretation of the Emotion of Chris's Song. It doesn't get better then any Song sung by Chris. And! He Wrote This Song Himself, as he told in an interview a few years back: A gal who was playing that 'Wicked Game' on him, telephoned him late one evening, back in 1989... She demanded to drive too his place that night, even though he said "No"! So she did anyway, and, in the time it took her too drive to his place... He Wrote This Song! Now That's Talent!
I was 20 years old when this song came out, and went to Mexico for New Years... to me it always transports me back to a Mexican beach at night, with a warm wind blowing... magic
@@kerryn6714 He was in the movie Twin Peaks: Fire, Walk With Me. Also, his style has much in common with the sound David Lynch likes, so being reminded of Twin Peaks is not unusual.
Thanks for reacting to this great Hall Of Fame singer-songwriter. He is so good and doesn't have as wide a following as he deserves, but people who love him really do appreciate him. This is a mellow one, and yes, he wrote it. His whole body of work is good. He's 64 and still touring. The official video for Wicked Game is, to put it mildly, very sensual. I saw an interview where he said that the beautiful model in the video was a good actress. "She pretended to like me."
Finally, someone has featured him. This sounds good but you need to watch the official video. He sounds the same but the video adds so much to the song!💜💜💜
This is a good live version. I think the main thing to remember is when people want you to listen to a song you should find the original video. It is what they have listened to all their lives and they want you to hear the same thing. I don’t know when the live version is from, but even though people can still sound good if it’s when the artist is older their voice might not be as strong as when they were younger. Just a thought.
Loved this reaction ❤️ this song is the closest I as a woman can sometimes get to understanding heartbreak from a man's perspective. The music video was so incredible too.
Here is why I love watching your videos: 1. I get to hear songs I haven’t heard in a long while. 2. Your reactions are great. I’m always thinking “oh, just wait until he hears the next part”. 3. Your ability to appreciate music from different genres and time. Thanks for sharing and be safe down there! Love from 🇨🇦
Wow I'm glad you decided to check out Chris. A little background I saw him way back when he started in the 80s in a small club on Melrose Street near Hollywood. I knew this guy was going to make it big the song that got me was called "Dancing". Check out Dancing live version if you want to hear his lungs just like this song that you just heard and in the original video Dancing you can see how cool he looked earlier in the 80s.. he was a Rick Nelson type excellent hair. And by the way Chris loves Elvis andwas influenced by Elvis n the 1950s.style. This was the time around when rockabilly was coming back with the Stray Cats all pushed from the 1977 death of Elvis Presley..a revival sort of thing, but Chris stands alone and is one of a kind. His career was almost over and then one disc jockey played the song "Wicked Gamesand became a hit a year after it had been out. This started back his career and he's had an amazing ride.
We used to see Chris surf at Ocean Beach in San Francisco as he used to live a couple of blocks away. This is still one of the most haunting songs I've heard. His voice is perfect.
I just read that the original video was directed by (fashion photographer) Herb Ritts. Same guy who directed MJ's video, "In the Closet" (similar style)

Interesting. He changed the lyrics up slightly. The recording has "strange what desire will make foolish people do". Here, he sings "foolish lovers". And yep, Jay, you're right. Chris Isaak was one of the coolest cats to ever walk into a studio and put out a record. He was something of a modern-day Roy Orbison in some ways. Also had one of the most excellent TV shows ever (way back when).

One of the COOLEST songs I've ever heard! This has been a favorite ever since I heard it in the movie "Wild at Heart". A really cool and strange movie too!
I have seen him live 3 times. He and his band members have played together for over 20 years. Saw them last year and they are one of the best performing band ever.
It felt like he was dropped, fully formed, one day in SF. He had a look, a sound, and we all fell under his spell. His mom used to sew him old suits from old, 1940's drapes. One time he gave a free lunch hour concert at Levi Plaza, an office complex around a big green lawn. EVERYBODY filled the space, and all the windows of the office towers were full of people, the people wouldn't let him go. They kept cheering and cheering and he kept playing until about 3:30 - so..... I told my boss when I left that I didn't know when I'd be back, but not to worry. I never did come back! The whole crowd was sort of euphoric. All the bars filled up and more of him on the juke boxes. I remember it as an amazing SF day. One of many.
Chills and Goosebumps! I love to play and sing this song, but it can be hard to get through! Love that can lift you so high up, can bring you crashing down! It's always a gamble. You just have to decide for yourself if its worth the risk!
Chris is also an incredibly nice guy - humble, friendly, and VERY funny. My husband and I have met him twice at a meet-and-greet prior to a show. It is so difficult to not be attending live music during the pandemic, and to be supporting musicians, who are so deserving of our support. I hope that we can return to normalcy in the not-too-distant future.
Haunting is definitely the word for this song. You should listen to the studio version along with the official music video. The video is a perfect match for the song and shows you the heartbreaker he is trying so hard not to fall in love with. He hasn't got a chance.
I’ve been looking forward to this reaction 🙂 I was a little bummed to hear that you were doing a live version, because the video is great... but this is a great live performance!
I love that song for that same reason. To me, the lyrics are nice and gentle, and I have no idea how many times he sings the same thing, it could play for hours before I realized it was on repeat.? It is just a soft mood music, and he has such a beautiful voice, too.
I remember in 1989 I was 35-year-old bartender here in Alaska, when this song dropped, it was stunning to see all the different emotions it brought out from all different ranges of ages and people. Some men danced sultry with beautiful women, some women dance with a sense ownership over their mans heart, some just sat profoundly moved as they ordered another drink. When I was done with my shift, I went into the back storage room and cried because of a wicked game I lived through. If you want another great song of his... Baby did a bad bad thing!
This song was hit only after it was featured in a David Lynch movie called 'Wild At Heart' that starred Laura Dern and Nicolas Cage in 1990. The success of the song led to a long association between Isaak and Lynch with Isaak crossing over into acting in a few Lynch films like 'Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me', as well as other films like Tom Hanks first movie as a director, 'That Thing You Do'. There are two videos of the song...one directed by Lynch featuring clips from 'Wild At Heart' and Isaak singing and another with Isaak and a beautiful model. This song is seductive and haunting at the same time...which is why I have always loved it.
I really hope you do put Chris Isaak on your play list so we can have more reaction of him. Chris Isaak is one of the best artist out there today, I love his music

One of the most beautiful songs ever written.
Love This song, one of my all time faves of Chris's, you get lost, your imagination runs away and you sort of float like drifting clouds.💖👌😎
It's one of my all time favourite songs... love love LOVE this! x
Listen to the studio version. Gorgeous.
I love Chris Isaak, listen to him all the time. You'll love the studio version, the "haunting" sound comes up a notch. So glad you loved him! Peace out!
He always sounded hauntingly similar to Roy Orbison to me. There’s no better compliment I could think of, but he just sounds so much like him.
Cross between Roy and Elvis
