- World Cup season is upon us, and as we anticipate watching nations from all over the world battle for the biggest prize on the biggest stage in world football, we also have to remember that some national teams will not be featuring.
Of course, the majority of countries that miss out on World Cup tournaments miss out because they fail to qualify. But there are actually a few that don’t feature simply because they can’t. They have been banned.
In almost every World Cup tournament since 1950, at least one country has been banned from participating for different reasons. And in this video, we will be looking at some of those countries and the reasons they were banned. Here are 7 countries that have been banned from playing in the World Cup.

Agree - the Ecuador situation is weird. Players now can play for one country at youth level, but change at their senior call up. How is this different? Also, it's a team sport. Ban Castillo, if there's sufficient evidence (which I think there is NOT), but not the whole team. The truth in it all is that Chile ONLY complained AFTER they didn't qualify.
To my knowledge, no other team has complained until now. Too little, too late.

2022 World Cup has a lot of scandals about banned countries. Russia was excluded, then there was a threat for Ecuador to be expelled because of illegal players. Now, Iran had the same fate because of the humanitarian crisis, especially after the death of Mahsa Amini and the ban of women on football stadium, and the Iran's support to Russia.

Would have been good to mention Australia’s ban for not paying player transfer fees to European clubs, claiming it was simply immigration. The players, clubs and FIFA obviously didn’t accept that so they banned Australia from the WC. Compensation was given to FIFA before the next WC and they subsequently qualified for the first time too. Some other interesting facts about Australia at the same WC but I won’t bore you any longer.

A friend of mine posed this question to me. Who is more corrupt FIFA or the IOC? I had to go with FIFA.
The Ecuadorian one is not a ban from the world cup but a sporting disqualification based on the new results of the matches the possible ineligible player featured in. In other words, every game he would've illegitimately played would result in a 3-0 defeat for his team, hence disqualifying them. This is the reason it would result to Chile placed 7th on the table being the team to replace Ecuador and not Colombia placed 6th as the possible ineligible player didn't play against Colombia but did against Chile and other national teams.
If let's say Brazil which placed 1st in the table did something similar with one of it's players for one game that they won on the field, it would result in a 3-0 defeat for that particular game but ultimately won't change anything as even if you strip off Brazil from those 3 points in the table they would still qualify sportively, hence not a world cup ban.

If Equador gets banned for 1 player who moved to Ecuador for a better life 20 years prior from today , what in my opnion makes him Ecuadorian after so many years , then ban Qatar for the whole squad for receiving milllions to become a Qatar citizen and player. Unban Ecuador NOW.
