These pieces are so wonderful. Not many people know them (and there aren’t many recordings of them either) probably because of the slightly uncommon two piano instrumentation, but they’re so tightly constructed with some of Medtner’s catchiest and liveliest themes. The round dance is my go-to ‘feel happy’ piece.
I've recently just realised that the first piece is genuinely one of my most favourite works from any composer really. The part starting from 6:10 onwards genuinely leaves me with no words every time I listen to it. And my god the harmony in those 4 bars of music starting from 6:32 along with the staccato-legato combination by the two pianos and the dreamy restatement of the main motif... I have no words, let the music speak for me
This is just so wonderfull and ingenious. I love that fugue!

so good...
9:08 one of the most joyful moments in Medtner.
I seem to recall Moiseiwitsch and Medtner playing this.
Somewhat akin to having a delightful but boisterous child in the house. Thanks for posting.
