I love how Medtner had his typical based style even in the begining of his work! I love that opus it's so tender, exciting, !

Oh my god, the genius of this first opus aside, my jaw slammed the floor when I heard that scale at 19:25. Tozer was something else, and it sure as hell wasn't human. I wish I could have seen him in concert. Thanks for the upload.

      Tozer was very much human.

@@DynastieArtistique Ever heard of the word hyperbole before?

@ Yes, and I’m responding to your hyperbole because that one passage wasn’t played particularly special at all, and neither is Tozer a particularly great pianist overall

Not a great pianist? Seriously? Many consider him to be the best Medtner interpreter. Going by your videos, not sure you can speak much to this. Certainly we all have favorite pianists but how isn’t he great? That part is immaculate

@@DynastieArtistique I can't tell if you ragebaiting or some type of shit like that, but the passage that Tozer played is VERY special, so that part was played very well by him. What else can I say? You can't even play your own prelude correctly lmao

I was introduced to *Nikolai Medtner's gorgeous world* by the pianist Ekaterina Derzhavina, so naturally, my ears are tuned to her interpretation.
Tozer's playing is new to me but also quite attractive. Medtner's entire collection of Forgotten Melodies, Stimmunsbilder, Trois Pieces& Sonatas are
so breathtakingly exquisite that I find myself admire the pieces all the time.

Horowitz was my first exposure to Medtner. One gets used to hearing and studying the same composers time after time. And as great as all that music is, it's nice to discover someone new. Yes?

«Восемь Картин Настроений» is "Eight Paintings of Moods" in English

Amazing creations from one basic melodic idea and one basic rhythmic idea.Tozer's cd set on Chandos of Medtner's complete sonatas and "Forgotten Melodies" is must-have as well as Hamish Milne's Hyperion cd set of the complete "Fairy Tales." ( Not to mention the piano technique required. )

Yaeh those are great, but my most favourite cd set of Medtner is Hamelin's recording of Medtner complete medtner sonatas, Forgotten melodies and Opus 8. I really recommend this one, in my opinion are Hamelin's interpretation the best.

you should probably put "mood pictures" in the title or description somewhere so ppl searching up the english translation (like the one used in Derzhavina's recording) can find this video
