Can't see why people are complaining about this narration. The doesn't do accents. Nothing worse than a pathetic Belgian accent. I'm enjoying this. Bravo ❤❤
This is a perfectly acceptable narration but it is not a dramatization. A narration requires more of the listener to make the differentiation between characters and that means the listener has to focus more. It's probably a good idea to listen to narrations occasionally and not just dramatizations to keep the brain sharp. He reads with a sense of urgency so it's a bit fast.
I don't know if Nigel Cairn (as opposed to Cairns) is a professional actor. Some audio books are ready by volunteers. He has a pleasant, clear voice, however. He reads rather fast, so maybe was given too short a time limit for the material. ( Clearly these readings are all just scant of 30 minutes. ) It means the changes of scene are often compressed.

I found the narration sadly lacking in any drama. No light and shade, it was like he was reading aloud from a book but paying no attention to telling the story. Posh English voices are everywhere😏 . Have you watched University Challenge lately ? Even the students from Hull sound like they're from Oxford. 😒
What channel do you read on? You sound like you know how to do it really well. I’d like to hear you. Do you do vintage stuff? I prefer at least 1930s. Do you do any of those? Let me know! 😊
Also, he pronounced the word inquiry the American way, with the emphasis on the first syllable. Japp, an Englishman, would not have said it that way, especially not in the 1930s.

David Suchet did a good Poirot this guy I can’t tell who the characters are.
But his French accent is much better than David Suchet's! Few British actors can do a good French accent, yet it's not that difficult. 😊
