Thank you, as always, to @goed.gedaan for his excellent editing.
PS - If you're wondering why my videos will always be in English, the answer is simple: more people in the world speak English than Dutch. I want this channel to be accessible and understandable for as many people as possible.

The court case at the lower court has ended with a verdict and a sentence, but it isn’t finished yet. To get a conviction, you need to wait for the judicial process to end. Both, the public defender and the accused, appealed against the verdict.

I think there is a "better" serial killer in Dutch history. Read the book about the voyage of the VOC ship "Batavia" (available in Dutch and English) by Peter Fitzsimons. It beats me up to this day why nobody made a movie out of that excellent and true story book. Few of the crew and passengers actually survived the horror after the shipwreck of the Batavia at the Alhombros riffs at the coast of Australia. By the way, an exact replica of the Batavia can be visited in Lelystad nowadays. It is up to this day by far the biggest serial killing in Australia.

Yikes! How awful! You have a great way of telling these crimes. In the early sixties my neighbour friend (Noreen Greenly) disappeared, at the corner bus stop. We were 11. She was never found & to this day it remains one of Canada’s unsolved crimes. And if that isn’t bad enough, we had a horrible cereal killing that occurred in the Niagara region in the early nineties by a Paul Bernardo & his wife Carla Homolka. Carla’s mother Dorothy worked in the same hospital I worked in as a nurse. She used to give us our shift hours schedules. There have been many books written about these murders. One of the murders was Carla’s own sister! The son-in-law of one of the nurses I worked with was the lead investigator in the task force set up to solve the murders. I think what’s so frightening is that criminals like that look so normal. You really don’t know what’s going on in some people’s brains, do you? They could be sitting right next to you, and you wouldn’t have a clue! Take care Jovie, keep up the good work.

    Elementary, my dear Jovie....
One advice: I could see some kind of screen reflecting in your glasses which was annoying me a bit.
Now I already gave you the Pim Fortuyn Assassination, the murder of Gerrit-Jan Heijn, and the attack on the Royal Family on Queen's day.
In the meantime I've been thinking of a few more cases.
    - De treinkaping bij de punt. -- A group of people hijacked a train and kept it hostage for a long time. Now this can be a rather sensitive issue, so I recommend you to handle this one with care. Some people accuse the Dutch authorities that the police/army who came to free the train and the passengers in it of entering the train with a "shoot to kill" authorization (which would mean they executed the hijackers on the spot which is banned under article 114 of the constitution, although I do not know if that article already existed at the time). The prime minister of the time appears to deny those accusations though. But due the sensitivity, I recommend to try to be as neutral as possible.
    - De Marianne Vaatstra case is a rather recent one. Marianne Vaatstra was a teenager who was sexually abused and murdered. For a long time people thought that somebody in the nearby AZC had to do something with the case until years later a DNA test proved otherwise.
    - Lucia de Berk could be a nice one to cover too, as that was about a crime that was NEVER committed. Lucia de Berk was charged for murdering people and condemned to a life-long sentence, however later investigation showed she didn't commit the murders. As a matter of fact, the murders never took place at all and her "victims" appear to have died on natural causes. It was one of the most well known recent cases of miscarriages of justice.
    - Lastly, seeing that you dove into history by going for "Goeie Mie", how about going even further into history... The assassination of the father of our nation: William of Orange (Willem van Oranje in Dutch). King Philip II hoped to break the Dutch resistance by murdering William of Orange, however this all proved to be counter-productive as now the Dutch had a martyr and became more fanatic than ever before. The murder's punishment was cruel even for the time in which it happened. Nice to note also as that the murderer, Balthasar Gerard, was vouched for by many outside the Netherlands, to be declared holy, which in the end would never happen, but tells a lot about the time's sentiment.
Hopefully these are also useful cases to cover....

Surprised she was not hanged as was normal in a lot of European (geographic) Countries at the time, the last woman to be hanged for murder in the UK was in 1956. The death penalty was rescinded for murder in 1969 but remained for the crime of Treason and in Military Law as death by firing squad until the early 90's when the last licensed hangman retired and the penalty was rescinded. It is still in the statute book as has never been repealed and in theory can be reinstated if and when needed.
The copy of the Official Secrets Act that I signed in the early 70's had the death penalty in it for a conviction for treason or other related offences. I was only a Ministerial Driver, so just a Civil Servant on my Passport, but of course could overhear what was said in the back and documents were often left in my care whilst the passenger(s) were having lunch or a pitstop. The conversation was often interesting in other ways! Of course I never listened.

    • @NancyvanD
      @NancyvanD 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

See I've always wondered that too. But the last time in the Netherlands a regular criminal was hanged was in 1860. With the death penalty abolished 10 years later in 1870. So when this all happened in 1883, there was no death penalty.
There have been executions since then but those were war criminals. With the last one happening in 1952.
Sorry for responding to a 2 year old comment but I just had to reply. 😅

    Ha Jovie and Daan!
I’ve seen both your crime videos now and I love the stories! They are thoroughly researched and well told. More of those please!
However, can I give you some constructive criticism about the presentation? Because frankly, 🤢.
The background is rather amateuristic. Can’t you hang the cork board on a wall and sit or stand next to it? And what is that grey thing on the right? Does it have a funcion? If not, out with it! Also the sound could be better. It may be that due to the triangular setup, reflections from the board and the grey thing end up in the microphone, which distorts the sound. And last but not least, a screen reflects in your glasses, making it hard to see your eyes sometimes.
This was not meant as a ‘you suck’ but I really think you can do better, based on your former videos. How about using a green screen and projecting all the pictures you need on that?
    Cheers from tsa!
