Hi!! If you are old enough, do you remember when this happened? What do you think about it? Please let me know if you'd like more Dutch true crime videos in the future!! I LOVED making this!

    • @estherkeizer6080

Not old enough to remember it, but I read a book about it and two books written by Agnes Holleeder, one of Willems sisters. He really is a nasty person, perhaps a psychopath and an narcissist.
What made the murdering of Cor van Hout even more sinister is that Cor was married to Sonja, Willems other sister. Willem gave the order to kill his brother in law and also threatened to kill his sisters and other family.

      @xXTheoLinuxXx 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Yes I'm old enough to remember, and you've done a fine job. Back in the 80's there was another kidnapping that kept us busy (Gerrit Jan Heijn, yes the brother from Albert).

The kidnapping and murder of Gerrit Jan Heijn was also an infamous case in the Netherlands.

@@xXTheoLinuxXx love a serie. Agree with Theo. Heijn kidnapping should be on the list. Other famous Dutch people being kidnapper: Toos van der Valk, Maup Caransa. Not a kidnapping but an event with a big impact. The trainhijacking at "de Punt"

I was only 9, so I do not really remember it. But I off course know about it as it was big in the Netherlands. I remembered the kidnapping of Gerrit Jan Heijn much better as it was years later. You should do that case also.

Loved this video!! Here are some suggestions I would love to see as part of one of your crime videos....the kidnapping of Gerrit Jan Heijn which kept the people in The Netherlands busy for months in a row. In my opinion it was even more sinister than the Heineken kidnapping....and the other one is the hijacking of a Dutch passenger train by Moluccans in 1977 near the village of De Punt which lasted 2 weeks. Good luck!

Adding a little detail about how the men were exchanged to The Netherlands. Freddy's Heineken's wife came up with the idea to have the guys go from France to St.Martin. This Caribbean island is under governing of France. But only about the half of the island. The Other part is called St.Maarten is under governing of The Netherlands. Long story short: The men were practically tricked by the two governments to finally speed up the to exchange of the men to The Netherlands. As said, Heinekens wife came with the idea.

Hi Jovie. Love your “Word Of The Day”. I worked abroad for a few years on secondment from BT in the UK. I spent some time in the US, Italy & The Netherlands. My colleagues and I claimed we were multilingual - we could order BEER in a multitude of languages. A friend of mine used to work for the Medical Research Council and spent a couple of years in Papua New Guinea and his party piece after some beers was to quote in Pigeon English how to “Breathe In - Hold It - And Breathe Out” to the local tribesmen.

Nice story, but you missed a funny fact. There was no applicable language in the extradition treaty between France and The Netherlands, which allowed France to extradite them to The Netherlands for kidnapping. That is why Cor and Wim fled to France. However, at the time, France and The Netherlands shared a border, not in Europe (because Belgium in sitting between them) but on the Caribbean island of St. Martin, which is partly French and partly Dutch. So, the French flew them to St. Martin hoping they would accidentally wander across the border, so the Dutch police could arrest them. However, that didn’t happen, of course. 😂 The people on the island protested against the plan, so they were flown back to France. Eventually, the treaty was amended, so they could be extradited.

Jovie, I did enjoy this, little different from the usual ""info for expats"" vibe that your videos can have.
If you like true crime, may I recommend a TH-camr, her name is Stephanie Horowitz. She is very thorough in details, very personal with her own spins, questions and speculations and she keeps viewers captivated, she's a great story teller in her own quirky way.
I remember this very well, it was the year before I left Holland for the US. It was full on media coverage every day. Maybe it's because there are fewer real life kidnappings for ransom than what we see in movies.
So Jovie, here's your Dutch language homework given by me, understanding the lyrics of ""The Heineken song""
"En al liggen me'n kloten onder de trein, dan zullen mijn laatste worden zijn
Oh Heineken Bier, oh Heineken Bier!
En al lig ik 'n meter onder de stront, dan heb ik de smaak nog in mijn mond
van Heineken Bier, oh Heineken Bier!
overal en overal, waar de meisjes zijn, waar de meisjes zijn
    overal en overal......."

Well done Jovie! More of the same is very welcome. May I suggest that you research the story of fertility arts dr. Karbaat living in the area of Rotterdam. About 3 weeks ago there was a documentary about "het zaad van Karbaat" The implications of his misbehaviour are not fully determined yet. I don't know if the deceit he committed may be termed criminal, but the results are devastating for a whole big group of people! He even exported his 'product' to other European and possible north American countries. Also, it now seems that there was a fertility doctor in Zwolle of Zutphen that also deceived his clients.

We've had other kidnappings in that era; Maup Caransa, Albert Heijn and van der Valk. But tFreddy's was indeed like a movie with his chauffeur etc. It was epic, I don't condone it but there is a reason why it was made into a movie

Sorry Jovi you got a lot wrong in this case, he was the target for a good reason, a personal reason from Wim, he blamed Freddy that is father became a alcoholic and that he fired him. i worked at Heineken for 30 years, this is not how it went . But you can not no that because you don't no all the facts. You got all your facts from the internet. But i can tell you this, Freddy Heineken was never ever afraid off Willem or Cor, it is just the other way around. I now that for a fact. He did sent them a beautifull present when they were in yale and a promis. Freddy was a man who always kept his promes. And man he kept his promes to them untill he died, i think that Wim got on his bare knies out of relieve when Freddy died. Besides that the hole kidnapping did not affect him as mutch as you say it did, he was very open about it, when he was relased he was at the office a few hours later making sure that all the people who worked with Heineken got a personal letter and a call about his time there and we all hat to cellebrate that with cake and off course a beer.
