Eventually, his crimes escalated to attempted kidnapping, resulting in the deaths of one man and a near-shootout with police. Shortly thereafter, a criminal known as the East Area Rapist would surface in Sacramento, creating a terrifying legacy that persists to this day.
    Part one of three.

    Crazy watching this now after DeAngelo was caught. I started watching this podcast 1 year before his arrest for these crimes. Most informative podcast about GSK to date in my opinion. Great job.

    Before you criticize the production value on this episode, please realize it was his first episode and first attempt. Everything from his Long Island serial killer episode series forward is quite professionally done. Less breaks, better pacing, better audio quality, same awesome research and approach.

    Thank you, Michael, for your efforts. Presenting quality information for FREE is a real public service. I cannot criticize anything about this because I've never done a podcast and I would bet none of the armchair critics in the comments have either. So, kudos to you.
    By now, we have the GSK in a cell, where he will remain for the rest of his life. This is totally satisfying.

    Excellent job. Even the music fits perfectly.
    Still amazes me someone can get away with 80 b & e's, 50 rapes, 13 murders, leave so many (admittedly often probably deliberately contradictory) clues, and still evade identification!
    And that's only the REPORTED shit! Luck of the devil, as they say, and the cops making dumb mistakes.
    Don't know why this hasn't got more views???

    • @unresolved
      @unresolved  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Hellwig64275 - Thanks for the compliments! I do appreciate them... still working on improving a lot of things about the podcast, but can't blame a lot of people for being deterred by the subject matter.
      But I totally agree about your points, it's absolutely insane that the EAR/ONS was never even identified, with all of the evidence he left behind. He was seen by victims and witnesses MULTIPLE times, struck communities that weren't overly large, and left an amazing amount of DNA evidence behind. It's really just astounding that karma hasn't even reared its ugly head at him... DNA connected him as the two separate criminals, but was unable to find out who he is.
      All we can really do is hope that the DNA testing eventually leads investigators to a family member, or at least a distant relative of his someday. That would be HUGE, and incredibly eliminate the suspect pool.
      But thanks for the kind words and the support, Hellwig! =D

Heck, inconsistencies are rife among sites, articles and TV shows that have covered this case over the years. I really like the fact you cover unsolved cases. It's important that there's a public awareness of these cold cases. I can only imagine what the victims families go through, not at least getting justice. I also must admit that I find true crime in general fascinating, especially cases involving unsolved serial killers. This case is very intriguing and I agree that it's surprising he was never caught. The guy definitely had luck on his side. The fact there's been no dna or other evidence match, plus the close calls he had. What else can you chalk it up to?

    Great job on the podcast, much insight into his warped mind. The Sac area was terrified, esp East Sacramento. For some reason, the 'I'm going to kill you' recording doesn't really scare me that much? Pisses me off. We got lots of calls like that in the 70s. I'm sure there are many more victims of his crimes.

This guy was in an area of sacramento for years! were lookin for a white male, 25-35, with blue eyes, displays odd behavior, coming and going at all hours of the day, talking to himself, he possibly has a dog, drinks coors in a can, drove a green chevy and he lives in (this area of the city). Did authorities give any similar descriptions to the public? It seems like the public had no clue what to look for.

      sfgmanCA Well to begin with, The Sactown cops asked the media to sit on the first couple rapes for over a week. So he was already 2 rapes in and he has already had a headstart. This guy also offended until he felt it was too hot, changed jurisdictions. So he starts up again. Repeat, rinse. Remember they didn't link the rape cases to the murder cases until 2001

In addition, it was ManY years before it was discovered that the guy who was raping in No. CA was the same guy who was killing near LA.

    If you're seekin' out the East Area Rapist aka Original Night Stalker then look no further than Lockdown Serial Killer Wrestling down here in the Tally, Georgia Supermax! He's on the main roster and recently squared off against Richard "The Night Stalker" Ramirez. Come check him out in action. You never seen a pair of more muscular legs on a human being!

    Factually incorrect. The phone call in the beginning was not made in "1991 15 years later after they moved". There was a call to a victim in 1991, but that call was not recorded.

    I thought for sure he'd never be caught just like Zodiac. But now with all the genealogy websites it may happen!

    • @ellah3500
      @ellah3500 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It did happen! Thanks to genetic genealogy they got him 2018. Then 72 years old Joseph DeAngelo - a former cop - was charged, and in 2020 he pleaded guilty to multiple counts of murder and kidnapping.

    I'e never heard the first story in this case where she compliments him and he reveals that fact about something happening to his face that's a major clue that theirs a major scar or disfiguration to his fave maybe even cleft lip or pallet and the bright blue eyes

      Dylan Wicklund only problem with this is that he was a chronic liar too, or at least is assumed to be and is extremely likely, based on his profile. I just started this podcast so idk if these are mentioned in this video so sorry if they are! but on some occasions he also said “we” and referred to a girlfriend, in other instances he also had dialogue that would make sense if there were 2 people present (such as saying things like “put this in the car”) however there was never a response or second person present. Remember, this guy was a top level expert at red herrings. Apparently he once mentioned being in the army, however in a seperate attack, he asked a male victim if he was in the forces, and when the victim replied yes, that he was in the airforce, the EARONS responded “they threw me out”. Again, conflicting info. It’s strongly believed, and almost confirmed, he purposely did this specifically to confuse investigators and whatnot. So it’s hard to tell if ANYTHING he said is true or false. There are a few sketches out there that are supposed to be him, but some are just of suspicious people spotted in the neighbourhood around the time of the attacks, but none had mentioned/shown any sort of facial disfiguration, and I would assume that would definitely stand out and be a focal point if it were true. I would take what he said with a grain of salt tbh!
