Not all Philippines were colonized by Spain. There are tribes who defended their freedom and culture for over 3 centuries that the country was under the Spanish rule. One of them are the Igorot tribes from the cordilleran region. Our culture was still preserved to this day. But it was when the Americans came that they were subjugated as well and you can see traces of American influences to the Igorot people particularly to their love of Country music, donning cowboy and hats. Baguio city is also the coldest city here in PH offering a refreshing escape from the tropical heat.
It's a testament to the enduring spirit of our people and the diverse tapestry of cultures that make the Philippines truly remarkable. 🙂

1521 Portuguese Ferdinand Magellan discovered the Philippines for Spain when their ship landed in Mactan island, Cebu. He was killed in the Battle of Mactan. Spain sent more expeditions after that and in 1565 conquered the Philippines thru Miguel Lopez de Legaspi & colonized the country until 1898, so we're under the Spanish rule for 333 years before the Americans " freed" us😁

Comfort women were women and girls forced into sexual slavery by the Imperial Japanese Armed Forces in occupied countries and territories before and during World War II. The term "comfort women" is a translation of the Japanese ianfu (慰安婦),[6] which literally means "comforting, consoling woman".[7] During World War II, Japanese troops forced hundreds of thousands of women from Australia, Burma, China, Netherlands, Philippines, Japan, Korea, Indonesia, and other countries into sexual enslavement for Japanese troops; however, the majority of the women were from Korea.[8] Many women died or committed suicide due to brutal mistreatment and sustained physical and emotional distress.

Some women were shot and/or burned alive. In the Philippines, my grandmother, together with other young women in their small town, hid in the forested mountains where her maternal side of the family lived. I always hear the story how my grandparent's courtship went❤. My frail grandfather was forced to be a soldier, saved by a friend and then eventually survived the Japanese brutality. He had about 2 bullet scars at his back.

What I've read about PH history was that pre colonial PH was already in trade with other Asian countries like the Chinese, Arabs, Indians etc. Since the country is an archipelago there was no united governance and instead have divided kingdoms.
Precolonial natives were actually progressive culturally. Higher rate of literacy compared to Spain. Even some of the lowest classes of people can read and write the baybayin- written language back then (which by the way imo looks beautiful , it imitates the movement of the waves).
Women can hold high positions in the society such as village chiefs, shamans(babaylan) which are highly respected, warriors, rights to divorce, etc. There was no prejudice against homosexuals who dresses as girls since they were treated as women in the community.
Spain's 1st to 3rd expedition to the country actually failed because of the warriors that defeated their soldiers. It wasn't until the 4th expedition of Spaniards based in Mexico that Spain took advantage of the warring divided kingdoms and also used Religion that the colonization started.
One thing I'm thankful of that the colonizers did not completely destroyed in the PH culture is the respect for women. Their patriarchal society did not flourish much since up til now the PH still holds the most gender equal country in Asia.

Thank you for recognizing the sacrifices of the Filipino soldiers (under the UN SEATO) in defending Korea against the invading China and North Korea. When the command was given to the UN forces to retreat, only the Filipinos stood their ground to defended the peninsula that they are protecting. Lots of Chinese and north Korean were defeated in that war. When the commanding general arrived in the area he was surprised to see that there were Filipino soldiers in the area. Just look it up what Gen. Mac Arthur said during that battle.

Magellan who was a Portuguese who wanted to find an alternate route to India and the spices it had. He found sponsors in the Spanish crown. Along with the promise of an alternate route to the Spice lands, the Spanish crown also wanted to bring Christ to those who do not know Him. When Magellan arrived at a land he thought was India so he called the natives Indio but he had not reached India but an island in the Philippine archipelago, Cebu.

Comfort women in the Philippines are those who were forcefully captured by the Japanese during their occupation and imperialism in our country. From teenage girls to even married women are in no exemption. All husbands were killed right in front of their kids and wives. Women were held hostaged in dungeons, and were constantly raped by high ranking Japanese officers day and night. My greatgrandmother was one of the comfort women during those times. Her husband, my greatgrandfather was tasked to serve in one of the Japanese officer's headquarter to just stand by beside that officer and wipe his boots. He was killed later on not by a gunshot, but by slashing his throat using a Samurai. Some of the comfort women who lost their sanity and no longer useful to the Japanese officers were shot point blank and some were poisoned. Some survived, and my greatgrandmother was one of them. That's where the word "Comfort women" came from. When the hostaged women were forcefully told to give sexual services to Japanese officers for instant gratification and comfort.

Originally Magellan and his men were searching for a way to the Spice Islands which are in present-day Indonesia so they pretty much missed. Spices brought in a lot of money then but the Portuguese defended their deals with the local rulers there to Spain backed off.
Eventually Spain found a mountain of silver in Bolivia and decided at some point to enter into the galleon trade which was silver shipped from Acapulco in Baja California in exchange for Chinese goods in Manila which were shipped back to Mexico. That trade lasted till the early 1800s.
After Mexican independence, the Philippines went more into the plantation business - sugar, tobacco and abaca which was used to make shipping rope before synthetic fibers existed. The main business partner of the Philippines for abaca even in Spanish times were the USA.
After the Spanish-American war and the USA spreading into Samoa and Hawaii, the USA bought Puerto Rico, Guam and the Philippines from Spain. In addition to buying Filipino sugar, the USA started off huge pineapple plantations in Mindanao - Dole and Del Monte.
The USA went heavier on mining than the Spanish who only had very basic equipment and just mined for gold in one place in Camarines Norte. With heavy vehicles etc. they mined the North of Luzon for gold and other places for copper. And had military presence in Asia.
I have school friends who lived not too far from the US Clark Air Force base near Angeles. One remembers vividly the B-52s that started on their way across the sea to Vietnam. The Japanese BTW wiped out Clark Air Force Base just a few days after attacking Pearl Harbor in 1942.

@@DANDJREACT most of the time it's okay to forget as long as respect is still there but Koreans are so high-headed and hypocrite tend to mock and belittling Filipinos not knowing and thinking that Filipinos are more resident and flexible then those who did mock us. For example; Koreans spend more years to create and produce a talent/k-pop but in the Philippines no need to train only to foolish their talents. Now, the world is evolving for the Filipinos Korean talent company is scouting talents to be K-Pop in the Philippines; SB19, Hori7on and more talents are producing Filipinos to be part of K-pop not only that Filipino can speak Koreans in bit of time meaning Filipinos are adaptable to anything. Hypocrite people underestimated Filipinos because of our economic status without thinking the world is evolving everything is possible now Korea is rich country before it's poor now the Philippines is regaining it's former glory. There's a verse in the bible "whoever lift himself/herself on high God will put them down; whoever put himself/herself down God will lift them high. Philippines as an american ally also sent 10k+ soldiers majority are medical and civilian assistance a handful of filipinos died unlike the korean war where we fought the n.koreans and fought hard. s.vietnamese tried to escaped the war by the hundreds of thousands by drifting in the scs and they were rejected by the indonesians and malaysians then some 30k+ vietnamese drifted in the philippines and was given asylum there is a vietnamese town in palawan up to this day they were given a safe place not concentration camps just like the jews, like the white russians escaping persecution, like the chinese back in the renaissance period. a few vietnamese decided to stay long after the war ended.

We were colonize by Spain for 333 years thats why most of our name is Latin, then colonize briefly by the British, and American and the Japanese ... so if you come here in the Philippines you will see the diversity in Feature, Languages, Food, Culture ... not all Filipinos are brown haha, we can't even speak in our language fluently, there is always a spanish and english in most of our sentence.

I’ve heard. And singers. The two most dangerous things. Imagine you see an army of Filipinos running towards you in war and all you hear is them singing the prayer right before you die. Not a good day😂

Spain colonized the Philippines for 333 years. Until we were sold to the Americans in a well documented contract called the Treaty of Paris (they signed this in Paris). While Americans occupied the Philippines, Japanese tried to takeover but failed. Although America did not occupy the Philippines long (like just around 15 so years) they influenced us hard because until now we speak their language.

so during the 333years filipinos didnot speak spanish?

    • @drlybubbles
      @drlybubbles 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@iamarmytinyctzentheb we did. We spoke fluently but my generation did not learn spanish anymore. Tagalog has spanish language influences. My Professors in college (they might be now in their 50s and 60s) told us they were required and spoke fluent spanish. But they haven't practiced it for years since the medium of instruction from when I started to learn to speak, read, and write were all english. I even converse in my head in english. I have a hard time speaking hardcore tagalog. I have to mix it with english. Even my Bisaya is also basic, and I have to mix words in English.
