My daughter went to an interview for an internship. I asked her if she was nervous or scared, and she said, 'No, they see who I am on paper, so now they just want to put a face to it and get to know me.' I thought, wow, what a great perspective to have.
1. Preparation, Who is interviewing you? Google them, study the job description. What does the company do? explain in a few sentences? 2. Build rapport, small talk, sport etc. 3. Have notes in front of you, e.g. Questions you want to ask. 4. Master the top interview questions 5. Increase self-awareness - slow down your speaking - stop your head nodding - gesture intentionally - coach - record yourself
I stammer so much during interviews and I end up not getting my point across to the interviewer. I practiced all these tips before an interview today and I am so happy to say that I did pretty great in the interview and I have a good feeling I'll get this job. Even if I don't I am not so scared anymore and I'm definitely seeing an Interview as a normal conversation where I just have to be myself. Thank you so much! You are a life saver!
Hey Madeline Mann, THANK YOU NOTE!! I recently had Tesla Interview and I was very scared because the stakes are high!! There were 7 rounds of interviews which was intense and i was under a lot of pressure, fortunately, i did come across your TH-cam channel, you have the best content and it helped me a lot during the interview process. I was able to get through the interview and i have accepted the offer from Tesla!!. Super excited to start my career at one of the best companies in the world!! - I thought i should thank you for posting these wonderful content Once again Thank you!! so much. Ravi
Recording yourself is helpful as you can evaluate your tone and how clearly you're articulating. I definitely say 'um' a lot so I have to keep practicing.
Thank you for this video! :) I hope you upload more videos to help introverted and shy people like me. It always seems that HR prefer to hire extroverted people, and I really just find it hard to fake it. Not to mention that I have diagnosed anxiety as well. It would mean a lot if you can provide tips for us as well. :)
Your videos helped me get promoted November last year and I definitely felt more confident and prepared. I am here to tell you that I now have applied for the next level position and my manager who will be interviewing me asked for my application to proceed to interview and I now have a interview next Thursday! Thank you for all the tips I used the tool box, notes, quick scenario words to help also I did index cards. I will say my internal interview was TOUGH & they asked more so questions related to my actual job. One of the questions I got last time was “what would I do if I had multiple tasks due all at the same time how would I prioritize which one was first?, what would I do to ensure the deadline for all was met?” Since I would be an a position where I could delegate tasks I did use something along the lines of working over and delegate if my team members could assist. I used this because I went directly off what my manger would do. The other question was “ how would you handle a group project and one person in the team appears to not completing their portion of the task?” I answered this by stating I would work them directly to see what tools they needed to complete the task. Then he asked a follow up question what if the tools you provide did nit work?” Then I followed up with “I would collaborate with leadership on development for the team member. “ because he asked multiple follow up questions I felt I answered incorrectly and got nervous that I blew but I still got the job… That’s not word for word but if you can help me locate answers to how to answer those so I will completely answer this time if asked again… it would be appreciated :)
Madeline, I just wanted to thank you so much for the content you put out. I love your advice and tips and your direct but kind demeanor (and humor!) Your videos were really helpful and also helped me build confidence as a job seeker. After over 4 months of searching, I finally received an offer for my dream job today! Thanks for all you do.
I love these tips!! Recently my experience with interviews is that I only have a few hours heads up, like they email me in the morning and say "Can you do a phone interview at 2pm." So the idea of filming myself to practice for each interview seems highly impractical. But a great idea.
been watching these videos all week to prepare for my first interview with a dream company tomorrow and I’m commenting on this one because I think it’ll be my last one before the actual thing! hoping for the best, but either way, thank you Madeline!!
I am sooooooo glad I found your channel. I actually was listening to a youtuber share how they got their job after study and applying the guidance offered on your channel. Looking forward to putting this into action!
Wish I could of seen this sooner. I had an interview a few days ago and failed miserably; I binged your videos on how to prep for an interview and practiced but during the video call I was so nervous I blanked out so bad 😭
I definitely feel that I’ve gotten better at interviews but I need more practice and will for sure try filming myself! I want to be an actor so I think that’ll help a lot too. I also forgot a notebook last time but even my job Coach manager suggested it. I will make sure to have notes next time!
Thank you for the advice! Self Made Millennial has made a huge impact on my success!! I'm spending more time with my family and sharing some of our stories as we go grow and succeed!

This is all great advice. But there's no help for people who are uncomfortable on camera, not because they're not confident in their abilities, but they're just plain ugly. I got my teeth knocked out in an accident so my confidence took a total nosedive. What's one do about that? I'm sure I'm not the only person with this problem. I just don't want to be seen on camera.
Funny enough I didn't get the job because it felt weird for them that I have researched Thier profile on LinkedIn - so yeah it depends who you talking to and to be honest maybe for the best as wouldn't want to work with people who get wierd that you know something about them 🤦♂️

What are the best ways to make a make an interview naturally conversational?
Something I've done for years to help myself speak slower.. think of the way Jon Wayne always talks slowly and deliberately.. mimick that a bit..

I don’t know who are the people that are interviewing me, it’s for a government position with the White House DISA.
Great tips. But question: why do Millennials speak up? You end every sentence UP. It makes the speaker appear silly and with less gravitas.
Not just millennials

Thank you @SelfMadeMillenial for all your tips, they were highly effective and I got offered the position that I wanted so bad.
