  • What's up guy, today I'm going to show you how to map a sketch onto a curve surface in freecad. Everything you need to know will be cover in this video so right after you can start working on your own project, good luck :)

    Good video, thanks! It pointed me in the right direction. A friendly tip: try not to move the mouse around if you don't need to. It is a natural thing to do, like pointing at a whiteboard when talking, but it is confusing since the viewer doesn't know if they are supposed to follow every move or not and it is easy to lose focus. In a CAD program, it also highlights faces, edges, etc when the mouse pointer swishes by them which also disturbs the viewer's focus.

    I have used your video to complete a task that others said was not possible. With some small tweaks to your instruction, the end result is now ready for the 3D Printer. Thank you so much.

    Thanks. I learned a lot more from this video than just how to map text to a curved surface. This should really get bumped up above all the other text-to-curve tutorials.

    At 5:22 in the video, you introduce us to the sketch bounding box, and then you delete two lines. Instead, just delete the dimensions and the size and location of the bounding box can be moved. I found it easier than deleting and recreating the sides of the bounding box. Thumbs up on your tutorial. I learned a lot of details. Thanks.

    I found your video very good. I have learned very much from it and I appreciate that you made it. I have one question that I can't seem to get correct. You moved the Mapped Sketch constraints to fit how you wanted the text to show in the surface. I am using version .20 of freecad and this doesn't seem to matter. Is there a way to move the text to fit in the construction geometry of the Mapped Sketch?

    So far this has been helpful, however I am having issues selecting my face. I'm assuming it has something to do with not drawing the object like you did but importing it. Insight?

    Is there something else needed to run sketch on surface? I get this error when I try to run the command.
    'Sketcher.SketchObject' object has no attribute 'AttachmentSupport'Unknown command 'Curves'

    hi, I have two questions:
    1- I am using realthunder, but when i import my svg file , it doesn'T ask me to use the file as geometry or drawing! bt when i restart the program, and then i select recently saved file and i select the svg file that Ive just imported, it asks me about geometry or drawing ! any idea how can i fix it ? or when i find the setting about that question ? or maybe there is an issue with my svg... i couldn't find the related setting.
    2- when I use "create a suc-object binder" in part design wb, and i bind the surface of my svg file, after i pad it , i no longer need the originial path, but if I delete them, my pad will crash. how can i see the dependacies of all file ? also, is there a way to remove it and delete it without damaging my pad ?

    Works, but man this is so complicated. Why is there no feature where you just click at the surface and click TEXT so you can put text on the surface you selected.

    I've used this process now on many different applications. However, one area it won't work for me is if you are projecting the text on a swept surface. I.e the surfaced is curved in both the X, Y and Z plains. The text lays perfectly against the surface but when you attempt to give the "Sketch on surface" some depth a small exclamation mark appears and the text has no volume and cannot be Fused to the curved surface. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

      sorry for the later reply, are you using the "sweep" tool in the part workbench? because I thought you can always project to a surface created by the "sweep" tool. i know that you can have problems with multidimensional curved surfaces created by the "filling" tool in the surface workbench.

    Help! at 6:30 when he use the tool to copy geometry from another sketch he clicks the sketch then says "we're going to press one point above the sketch" and I have no idea what he did or how to replicate that step. I have the text in the box ect select it with the tool but what is press one point above the sketch?

    • @TabletopRobotics
      @TabletopRobotics  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      oh sorry for the confusion, so what im trying to do is to bring the sketch that contains the text into the sketch that contains the rectangle. after you click on the button at 6:25 "copies geometry from another sketch" i am trying to say all you need to do i click on the text and it should combine the two sketches.

    ick. I prefer the "Project on surface" function. Turns all this into 3 clicks.

    • @TabletopRobotics
      @TabletopRobotics  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      maybe it because i don't know how to use it, but i find the "Project on surface" function isn't ideal for text. i find it to produce unreadable text at any angle besides straight on when trying to print on a cylinder , think text on a water bottle. but for most thing the "Project on surface" function works just perfect.

    • @dftdbs1010
      @dftdbs1010 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TabletopRobotics Depends on how the text is made. Does not work for all methods. Using it is a lot simpler than the method shown in this video.

    • @dftdbs1010
      @dftdbs1010 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TabletopRobotics You can make text in any font you want even downloaded ones using the "draft" 3d text generator tool. Look to the gold letter "s" in draft menu it creates a shape from a text string. That works perfectly for water bottles, cylinders or anything and is WAY faster and easier. You have to make sure that your view is straight as it will sometimes curve to your view. If you use the draft method you can read it just fine unless your extruding some ridiculous size.

      oh, ill look into that method. it will probably simplify things a lot. thanks for the information.
