A lot of people see this as just a commentary on religion. I think it's more than that: Think about Adam. Think about the red girls taking data from the remnants of humanity. Think about Beepy and now he pretty much started this evolution in the machines. All of the robots are desperately trying to emulate humanity by understanding our motivations, emotions, and our PAIN. WE are their gods, and by permnanetly dying, and by feeling the grief and confusion that comes with death, they have become closer to the gods. It's a twisted yet beautiful expression of humanism. This entire game is.

A take on existence, humanism, time, universe... it's a big pile of philosophy, psychology, melancholy, science fiction, all under the guise of a scantily clad protagonist smashing her way through robots. I went into the game expecting that, and by the end (actual end) I literally clapped at the freaking screen because I was beside myself at what I just experienced. Guess it helped a lot that I often preoccupy myself with these topics so it hit really close to home, as I saw many people not really 'getting' what makes this game great - arguably the overall best game ever made.
Definitely, you see the main characters slowly become more and more human. At the beginning 2B would have been annoyed with this and detached. But she's clearly horrified when she sees her and Pascal have walked into a trap. What makes a human human and when does a machine cease being inanimate are some pretty awesome concepts. Ghost in the Shell does this very well, as well.
Interesting fact: kierkegaard which is the name of the religious head of the cult , is also the name of a notorious Danish philosopher who took life with extreme humour and rational thinking but yet was passioned by Christianity. He thought that the whole concept of God was divine by nature and that we should win " God " by having a leap of faith. The robots in the industry are jumping straight into their death " Become as Gods "
The most profound part of this scene was that not all of them are crazy. Just like in real life there is a bell curve. Loud violent ones choose to fight while others claim to be just as right in their belief but instead choose to pray that god reveals his true will to his brothers so that they might realize the error of their ways. Exact same motivation, different method.

I think it's very unwise to suggest that all religions are equal in this regard.
