Jay asked what the English think of the Brighton. I can't speak for any other Brits but I always loathed the square fuel tank that Triumph stuck on the T150V. The T160V was a real beauty but it was too little, too late. If I had $37k to wave around I think I'd rather spend it on a Colorado Norton Works Commando - a machine put together the way it always should have been. It's such a pleasure to see Jay Leno indulging himself in his garage. He's a real enthusiast who lives the dream for us mere spectators. A true petrol-head film star! Thank you.
Its called a cafe racer because after he tells you the price you need to sit down and have a strong coffee.
scanspeak00 that is right. The build is too expensive. It's non sense. Rubbish. I hope they go bankrupt. He is too greedy.
XD HAH. why buy this thing when you can just build your own from a real vintage bike for like 4,000!
In my family it'd be an Irish Coffee (whiskey instead of cream and sugar). 😎
@@sbsb4995 I agree 100% what does he think were all stacking Jay Leno's paper? Rubbish to greedy.
thanks for these videos guys, love that they're made for real fans, no stupid background music etc. really interesting, and LOVELY bikes too
Im 20 and I was born/ live in London and ive got a 1973 Honda. Love it. Would never even consider a new bike. These videos are great!
At any price that was cool to see. Thanks Jay for letting us in.
You know, I have been around 'vintage' bikes all my life and I just want to say to those naysayers out there: "Get a life!" Build your own customs, instead of passing judgement on a man who has gone out of his way (and has also financially helped many people by buying and restoring these bikes) to help preserve some of the most significant mechanical art ever built. I for one send you KUDOS, Jay! Thank you for saving so many awesome mechanical marvels, and especially for sharing them with everyone all the time. You've worked tirelessly promoting vintage iron. God bless you. BC
PS: The modern brit racers are awesome. I know they sing when you twist the wick, and knowing you, the cranks are offset 76 degrees or so! Thanks again Jay. bc
The small tanked bike sounded amazing! It's great, the mixing of vintage style and modern horse power. Nice work!
We had one of these at the racetrack i work at this summer. The sound it made up the front straight was like nothing else. Sounded like Hypnotoad from Futurama!
Hey Jay! I'm an English Biker and I absolutely love the Triumph!! Great episode!
love the work on the Brighton Rock Bonneville. Very cool for the 1960's.
Even though this was 9yrs ago - that bike is timeless and would be a blast to own.
there is a big revival of cafe racer style bikes in Europe especially in Britain, it's a cool scene to trundle to a cafe & meet up with friends old and new.
The flat-tracker is gorgeous!
Hey Jay- another Englishman here. Always been a huge Triumph fan and have had many of the 60's & 70's Thunderbirds/Bonnies/Trophys & Tigers. These new twins have really captured the spirit of the early bikes without the oil leaks and unreliablity. Champions Moto's upgrades look beautiful (particularly liked the one on the left, the flat tracker one) but wow, what a price!!!!
When ever I watch jay's garage,
Gorgeous bikes guys, as an Englishman I'd like to say thanks for producing a great British retro bike.
All the nice looking features down the drain when he said 37 thousand!! No way in hell!!
Gotta love em cafe racers! Thats the reason why I have one cuz thats a real bike!
At that price, these bikes are predestined to sit in some rich guy's garage...unridden. Too bad.
Absolutely love the sound of a Triumph . Brings back great memories of my buddies & their Triumphs . Back then , the ignitions & carbs were a nightmare .
Amals are easy to work on.....The problem with the ignition was the advance which perched in a cone that was easily deformed and once deformed it wobbled all over making it almost impossible to set dwell.
I bet Jay ordered a Brighton, you could see him drooling over it from the start of the video. He really is living "The Dream", another excellent film !!!
Lovely job. Jay chose the right one to ride.
Great bikes. So frustrating to live in Germany where bikes are only allowed to sound like little sewing machines nowadays (but you can ride faster - o. k.). Especially the real road bike is unbelievable beautiful! Definitely would like to have one. The raw tracker is also a highlight! Realy extreme interpretation of the new Bonneville. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Jay, your comment on a thin light motorcycle is spot on. I have a 2006 Triumph Thruxton and a 74 Trident but I just purchased a 1986 Yamaha SRX 6 and am having a blast with a thin light bike.
"What if you can have a vintage Triumph from the '60s look, with modern Triumph running gear?"
You can, it's called the Thruxton.
This was an awesome video! Jay makes the best video because he is actually a potential customer for all these companies.
More episodes about cafe racers, please!
$37,000 and you have to supply the bike?!?!?!
Welcome to L.A. = (
brad b
Wayne Novotny very inexpensive for the materials and man hours for a custom one of a kind bike.
True, Buy your own bike and customize it yourself, Obviously Jay leno is very rich and doesn't care, he doesn't do any of this work anyway.
but for that money they provide the KY jelly tube.....;o))
I've fallen in love all over again.
My dad was a rocker back in the day, 66 an all.. he'd love these, bit better than his old bantam lol, gorgeous bikes, love the cafe racer, tank is amazing.. love the flat trackers too
Flat tracker looks great but what sort of mileage would u get with such a small tank?
Nice bikes. Always love cafe racer style bikes since my Dad used to draw bikes in that style as a kid.
Magnificent bikes! Bravo!
37 grand, but it comes with a thesis!
You can totally hear that in Jay's tone of voice. "It's 37 thousand not including the bike.......ok, ok...."
You're right, you can hear it in Jay's tone of voice!
37k to convert a triumph WOW, bikes for the rich!
Thanks, I needed that!
from England .......... superb !!!!
Lovely bikes and great and proper sounding machines just like the cafe racers I remember
I wish I had one of these
Jimmy's bike looks cool standing still. Thanks for another great video Jay.
Fantastic Garage ! Nice Cafe Racer motor !
Thank you Jay for showing something different again.
I am a proud Triumph owner :)
Oh my god ! The Triumph is just a-ma-zing !!!
I'm from England. I'm a biker. And I freaking LOVE those bikes!
You can build something comparable for way way less coin, plus it makes it that much more satisfying when you build something yourself
Superb machine, I need to get myself a triumph
Gosh, that cafe racer is just gorgeous.
Hello Jay your such a gear head never new a guy who is so knowledgeable about both cars and bikes from all eras, Love watching your garage shows. Be Kool and be safe Jay. Archie Ontario Canada
Mega dittos!!!
Great sound. I like it.
Man i wish i was jay sometimes, he get to try and own lots of cool toys!
We Brits Leno' it's not just the English.......amazing effort into a wonderfull 'era
Roger the Paice Wales UK
Beautiful work, incredible 😮
how could it cost that much? you can buy three triumph thruxtons for that!
That Triumph Brighton is gorgeous! Almost as nice as my Thruxton! ;-)
Excellent videos.
Brook Henry's Evo Imola gets my vote for a class cafe racer, a bit more to pay but a whole lot more bike for ya bucks.
love the one in the middle.
Love those bikes and Jay was obviously having fun.
Imagine having jay Leno's garage
That bike is beautiful. would love to have it ! i live in Brighton too, it's a lovely place.
Please say someone else saw the moment where the guy went in for the handshake straight away, It was SO awkward I nearly died from the hilarity
that's a great sound too
Hi Jay, You're spot on, the old Bonnies rock. I picked up a 2000 Kawasaki W650....what a fun ride and reliability! Could you do a show on it because it's everything a 650 Triumph wanted to be but more!!
I grew up in Westford, MA riding my 66 Bonnie on the same back roads you know....sweet!
Just love these styles of bikes! I will build one someday! Thanks for sharing Mr.Leno!
37 grand is a near mint DBD34 Goldstar and a B50mx, whoa lots of money for a Thailand parts triumph.
I love Jay leno's Canadian tuxedo. :-)
Very beautifully done!
Yeah, the price is stiff. But I was grinnin' the whole time, as I looked at these. Thanks Jay!
I really like this episode. Keep putting them out
Denim overload every episode
these bikes have a lot of engineering behind them, that makes them precision machines. and they are fabulous.
from leicester uk. bikes are great. sounds lovely.
No doubt these are nice bikes. But I just bought a 2014 Royal Enfield Continental GT Cafe Racer with a MSRP of $5995.00
and you saved $37K... =]
Although those were nice bikes I think I'd actually prefer the 2014 Royal Enfield Continental GT.
I have the Conti GT. Paid less than $6k for it. Since then I've invested less than $3k in performance parts. My wrench tells me that when I get it back out of the shop it will be a real screamer. Should be able to do a "ton" and a whole lot more when he's through with it. Good part is, if I blow the engine I can get a new stock one real cheap.
You're into Indian bikes, eh? To each his own I guess.
Met a guy with a Royal Enfield on Skyline Drive in Shenandoah National Park, he had really good things to say and the fit and finish was spot on, it was a Continental GT. If you look up the plant's history, they imported a lot of tooling from the UK, along with engineers to train the Indians to make them exactly like the UK versions. Apparently, they've basically been using the identical methods with cloned tooling ever since, because the labor price is still stable for a direct-labor intensive production set up. And that's not marketing hype, a couple enthusiasts online (nerdy engineers) were comparing tolerances to 1960's models for fun and found the QC is still pretty much the same. No innovation, but that's kinda the point in this case, eh? And for the price point, I may pick one up.
Magnifiques motos "Triumph"... un rêve !!!!. Comme le disait la pub de l'époque:
TRIUMPH *THE BEST MOTORCYCLE IN THE WORLD*.
TRIUMPH c'est La moto des *Rebelles et es Rockers*. C.Q. F. D
These motor-cycles all look fantastically tasty. My own experience when comparing old, nostalgic, motor-cycles to their new modern replicas, is you always find out what a piece of crap the old thing is by comparison.
By comparison I said.
Technology for improving things - engines, frames, brakes!!! e t c - has come leaps and bounds since the 60's, 70's and 80's.
The old stuff is/was great in its own right - just don't compare it 1 to 1.
F i the so called classics that are raced along the Isle of Man at the superb Manx GP are basically all new bikes (parts have been replaced AND improved), however they look the same as they always did.
Drum brakes on a modern bike? Great, just don't go "trying" to much as power will fade really soon - by comparison. Always by comparison...
Enough ranting. These bikes LOOK great!!!
Hi Jay am I missing something because there so much less bike coverage compared to cars on the channel. Please can we have more bikes. thank you
Jay Leno's Garage: Ryca Motorcycle CS-1 Cafe Racer Kit
I can really tell that Leno is working on his patience by not butting-in so much. But damn that guy was stuttering a lot haha
Kudos on you Leno!
Old skool cool but runs like it was built in this century! Gotta love it.
Hey Jay, can you get a car from Vector Aeromotive in your show? Preferably the W8... thanks!
The "mod thing" Mr Leno. Was about wearing suits, while riding. When you got where you were going; off came the anorak and the Italian suit was still pristine. No heavy duty boots and leather jackets, etc. That's why the Lambrettas and Vespas were so popular. Once the Hondas became so endemic, the scooters lost appeal. For a person could ride a motorcycle and not find a pool of oil underneath. Most mods were British urbanites and the fashions then were more important, than the mode of transport. I had both scooters and bikes. My first bike was Triumph Tiger Cub. After that a few more different bikes and scooters, until I started driving a car. A working class kid, I earned money, to pay for them. My Dad loved me but he did not buy them for me. Yes, he helped and worked on them with me, but I bought them. Mods liked Ska, Rock Steady, Motown and bands like the Who. Rockers were still listening to Elvis, Cliff and Shadows. But that was early to mid-sixties and eventually they became, just youth. Youth always tries to be different.
What is an "anorak" ?
Jay, you should get Carpy, from Carpy's Cafe Racers in Anaheim, to bring some bikes by the shop. I don't know the guy personally, but he sure turns out some amazing machines. These Moto Bespoke bikes are great looking as well and it was cool to see them.
My thoughts are those of outrage..
This dude has taken on the mantle of "this is mine""I did this" "we did this"
It was 6:30 before the builders name was dropped as a throwaway into the conversation.
The designer/builder was Richard Pollock of Mule Motorcycles, San Diego, Ca.
Jay, one day you'll have to get an old Cushman scooter for your collection. I had a 1957 Cushman Eagle when I was a kid, and they were as cool as any old motorcycle.
Beautiful machines
Déjà vu or did I already see this episode two or three weeks ago?
you can tell Jay's been around a lot of old brit bikes, starts it and immediately puts his hand on the engine.. the problem with modern triumphs is they just don't have the thump the old Bonnies did, probably due to the overhead cams
Looks and sounds great J !!!
Absolutely beautiful triumphs...absolutely overpriced for what you're getting from this builder.
WAAAAAy OVER THE TOP MONEY. I wonder if its a titainium spoked wheel bike aswell.... My local dealer said come over, try out this new Triumph. It was that 3 cyl. 2,300 cc "thing" What a crappy barge that beast was. Iscrapped the hell out of it in a mild right hand bend . A Triumph that could not corner.
hello mrs jay ! huge fan , nice video all off them ! ;)
KEP THEM COMING !
Great episode love the cafe racers
i don't really like the Leno show but he does such an awesome youtube channel. LOVE U LENO YOU'RE THE BEST! THANKS FOR DOING THIS FOR US. great videos you're making here with these amazing machines.
Gotta come over and visit next time I am at Huntington Beach.
Hey Jay Leno, are you going to ride the new Honda CB1100? I would really like to see that bike.
as one of the english chaps, i think they've done an excellent classy job
Awesome jay. Thanks for this channel and your passion
Sweet Pieces.
I'm a bit confused as to what type buyer Champion is aiming for at this price. I know there are people who would pay up to 100k+ for a made-to-order custom bike, but limited production bikes in the dirt tracker and cafe format may be a bit of a stretch.
So much fun to ride these Triumphs on the mountain roads...! if you can afford it..$$$$$$$$$$. My first used Norton 850 cost me a whole $1200. in 1986
The sound, seams to be much better on this video and louder.
Beautiful
LOVE that one on the right. Those old double leading shoe drums did have a lot of power, often more than early discs. I'd love to just have a standard current Bonneville with their internal engine work. They are pretty robust engines stock so bump it 20hp and it'll be what it should be from factory.
Wow Jay, takes me back to my good old 'motorcycle hooligan' days back in 60's London. I can still smell the hot oil (and wipe the leaks off my jeans)! Good to see some old Clubman bars again, though the real tearaways used clipons, as I'm sure you know, just like the real racers. Glazed look, sigh...
