From the paddock: Cafe Racer Cup 2018

- Our very own Camera Dan and Bike Shed friend Billy Ward take us on a walk around the paddock and event at the Cafe Racer Cup. From big names like Charley Boorman and Adam Child, to first time racers like Marcel Ortmans, the event had it all.
5 years ago we sat around a kitchen table chatting about how we'd love to organise a track day with a difference, and this Saturday we finally got around to it!! Judging by the smiles on peoples' faces it was worth the wait. The Cafe Racer Cup, even if we do say so ourselves, was a huge success.⠀

Thank you to everyone who entered to ride or race and to the spectators who helped make this a day we won't forget. Next year it will be even bigger and better with more genres and race categories, The Bike Shed Festival.

With sportsbikes now having more electronics than a space ship and similar costs i think this will become more popular in the future. Pure fun and so many bike stories to boot..
New bikes are stupid in my opinion. Way too many nanny state safety features. Abs is one thing I approve, but a motorcycle is about the ride, the thrill and the sense of danger. Old bikes are the proper way to go.
What about just using new"er" bikes without tractioncontrol etc?

Need more races like this. The original race bikes are cafe racers. So we should bring it back.

How is a Z900RS a cafe racer?
It got through our Cafe Racer regs by having the 4 out of 5 things we asked for, and the bike is Kawasaki's take on the R Nine T Racer and Triumph Thruxton R, but it would have been more proper with clip-ons instead of flat bars. (It also would have gone faster on track with clip-ons, so maybe we should be glad Adam didn't have them!) ... Next year (now we know more about how to get this right, and responding to feedback) we'll definitely have a separate race for pros and journos. We didn't have enough to make up the numbers this year.
