I am 72 years old. I got my first bike 50 years ago. I bought a Bonneville 650 Triumph as parts in a box and put it together in my dorm room. I love that 1960s bike; kick start and all!
I've had six Triumphs since 2003 and loved them all. I've got a 2018 Bonneville T120 now and it's just a great ride - loads of power, handles great and gets more attention than any Harley Davidson. Nothing against H-D - they make some great bikes, but if you want something different, easier to maintain and less expensive, Triumph is the way to go.
I love seeing Jay's collection, never seen anything boring. I had a 64 TR6R back in the seventies, never should've sold it. You can't beat a nice old Brit bike for the road. Thanks!
Allways enjoy Jays presentation his enthusiasm is genuine. I own a thruxton it is my fountain of youth fun to ride. And it gets plenty of attention at the stops. 😊
Not my cup of tea for two wheels, but I sure am glad Mr. Leno creates these videos. They showcase his love of all things automotive. How fortunate we all are that he not only can afford to acquire and preserve all these fine machines but he drives them and gives us glimpses of how they work and the history behind them. Bravo, sir.
I've just recently bought a 2018 Bonneville T120, and it's very much like an old school bike. So easy to ride and and just like the ones I rode way back when - very modern, but very intuitive to ride. I love it. Loads of power and all the bells and whistles. I'm loving Triumph. It's my 5th one of the new (Bloor) generation.
I’ve probably have told you before that 64 triumph, gold and white bought one in 1964 it was my pride and joy,I love that bike to this day I still love triumph thinking about buying another one.
Absolutely gorgeous bike! 1st Triumph ever had was a homemade chopper made by 2 teenagers & a frustrated father. Waaaay back in the 70s. Eventually wreaked it, but loved it!!!

I just bought a 2003 Speedmaster in September, 2019. Although it doesn't have all the modern gadgetry, it has the same riding profile. It is very very comfortable to ride. My longtime Harley rider friend really enjoyed riding it, as well. If/when I upgrade, I will be buying another Speedmaster.
I just purchased a used 2016 Thruxston R (3,100 miles!) from my favorite dealer, BMW Burbank. I test rode the R ninet racer...counld not wait to get off that thing. Then I rode the Thurxston R...did not want to get off it! I am a die hard BMW Motorcycle guy, so this was shocking. The Speedster has 77 HP. Triumph pulled 97 HP out of the Thirxston. Plus Ohlin rear shocks and Showa big piston forks. All I can say is: the first Triumph motorcycle I rode I bought! If you haven't riden this one you must check it out! I own an earlier version of this bike, 865cc fuel injected, twin rear shocks, have a pillion type seat, summer & winter quick release screens. I like to ride without the screen on as well. Very tempted to try the new 1200cc version after this review by Jay. Love the low centre of gravity & forward controls.
I just went back and watched the 1964 Triumph video, and it got me thinking about all the bikes I've had over the years. I never got to ride a British bike back when I started riding in the early 80's, but I always wanted to. I did manage to put hundreds of thousands of miles on bikes though. Thanks for stirring up the memories. BTW, I had a thought about something that might enhance your video postings, you should let guests publish their own lists of vehicles owned. You wouldn't even need to talk about them explicitly, and could simply link to a short bio of the guest and their list. You might be surprised at what people have on their own lists.
If I were you Jay, I'd buy that new Bonneville. You and that bike go together like peas and carrots. I really like the new Bonneville, Beautiful and classic looking, feeling and sounding machine. I'd leave the exhaust just like it is.
In the video he says it sounds like an aftermarket exhaust. That is because the version they have him test riding does in fact have the upgraded Vance and Hines exhaust from Triumph. I bought mine last week.
This Speermaster is truly a classic British motorcycle, right down to the oil drips on the garage floor (3:50) (Kidding - if that oil is from anything, it’s from Jay’s older bike.)
Jay, you're one of my favorite people. Love the channel, love how insightful your reviews are. And you look cool as ever riding that triumph; Definitely buy one.
I've always been a Triumph Bonneville fan. This friend of mine had one and when we were in high school rather than parking it in the student parking lot he parked it in the auto shop parking area and I don't blame him. Much safer there. When school was over for the day and he would go and kick that thing over it was sheer music to my young little ears.
Love a bobber I’m to old for a sport bike, choppers are all show no go. Bobbers are somewhere between a standard Bonevile and a cruiser. Beautiful bike .
Triumph have had to up their game but they have done it with style but not forgetting their core principles and design, Triumph like the Harley have remembered what makes people love their machines so they have not messed with that but have brought the bikes the innovations that increase reliability & safety but not removed those feelings you get when riding a superb comfortable machine.

Jay Leno , just saw this today. Having done the IMS shows and Triumph was one of our favorite customers. Treated all of us above and beyond. Sadly the IMS shows have ended after 4 decades. I can't understand it. I guess insurance companies and lawyers pushed the cost up more than sales could match. I loaded and unloaded the very first Rocket for around 12 shows.Drove the semi loaded set up several booths as well as Triumph. Worked the Cycle World Magazine booth on the side. Always been my plan to purchase a Rocket in the future but they offer so many models it makes it hard to choose. I had a Daytona that was a beautiful and very fast machine. Hope that IMS comes back and the USA gets back to a place where we can enjoy having fun and not being sued for no reason other than greed over commom sense.Love to meet you Jay, some day maybe I will ,until then I have TH-cam.Still waiting for a 1970 GSX Buick episode. I've been riding for almost 40 years. I've been waiting almost that long for manufacturers to build these motorcycles! We're so lucky to be living in literally the Golden Age of motorcycle building. The stars have finally aligned for beautifully designed and built motorcycles. Even Harley's new Milwaukee Eights with their new (ducati) designed chassis are incredible!
The Norton Featherbed frame was not rubber mounted, that came with the Commando. Other than that, good to see a Triumph on the show. The new models of Speedmaster seem to be quite an improvement over the previous generation 865cc (900) version.
I have been thinking about the Speedmaster or the Bobber. Seems the Speedmaster is probably a more comfortable and practical motorbike. Ideal Sunday driver. Thanks. Love the clips Jay.
In 1970 I bought a brand new Triumph Bonneville. I finally wore it out in late 1972 with over 50,000 miles on it and never had to do anything to it other than routine maintenance and tune ups. I loved that bike!
Good to see this Jay. I've owned 4 Triumphs over the years and still have a 2001 855cc Triumph Thunderbird triple, which I consider one of the finest bikes ever made. You should keep it.
The speedmaster is my dream bike!!! incredible motorcycle, probably I won´t be able to get it, anyway is good enough for me to know there is such a beautiful machine out there on earth! :) Great video guys.
Hey! Same, also my dreambike. I'm currently saving for a driver's license (they cost as much as a good used motorcycle here), but I hope I can be riding a Speedmaste in 3 years or so (will be riding something used first, for experience :3)
Bought mine in December same color as the one he is driving. Such a great bike everything about it I have never gotten so many compliments about a motorcycle like I do with this bike. I park it in front of my vinyl record shop and people love taking pictures next to it they always look so happy. When a machine can do that the designer did something right.
this is nice to see Jay featuring the new Triumph Water Cooled Classics. But the bike that most compares to his old Bonny is the T100 bonneville or the Street Twin, which I own. 440 pounds 900cc about 50 HP with likewise gobs of torque, it is a Triumph more in the classic 1960's mold. All these bikes have 270 degree cranks so alternate firing cylinders, unlike the vibration machines of the past with simultaneous firing cylinders. You can look at my channel Jay to see what I did with my Street Twin. By the way I'm 72, and my first Triumph was a 1965 Bonneville TT special made street "legal" I was also an 18 year old expert hehe.
I prefer the T100 for many reasons. I love the classic look/twin shocks and fit my six foot frame really well. I test rode the 900=street twin and liked the power weight ratio. I also test rode the bonny/1200 and did not like it as well. Heavy and boring to me. The T100 is for me.
DEaMON you have a new subscriber - me. The 180 degree firing order of the original and the first gen Hinckley Bonnevilles has the pistons moving up and down together but they don't fire together. While one is on the compression stroke the other is on the exhaust stroke. But I think you probably already knew that. (If they both fired together I guess it would be 360 degrees.) The 270 degree firing order has a very nice sound - not the sound of the classic British parallel twin but you get all that grunty torque. That Street Twin is a fantastic bike. When it comes time for me to retire my 2008 Bonnie (64,000 miles and going strong) it will be a tough choice between models if I get another Triumph.
Good to know. When I rode the classics in '13 I really wanted a Thruxton, but enjoyed the engine in the Scrambler so much more that I went searching on craigslist for a used Scrambler that I could turn into a Thruxton. During my search I found a Moto Guzzi V7 Cafe Classic and had to have it. No longer have a Triumph dealer nearby so now I have a Moto Guzzi V7III Carbon in the garage.
As a Brit bike owner of long ago ( Triumph, BSA, Norton) I can tell you that a lot of the problems those old bikes had were the direct result of shadetree mechanics that did so much stuff wrong. They were good bikes if properly maintained.
Agree 100%. In the 1980's I bought a lot of 'unwanted' BSA and Triumphs. Joined a Brit bike club and learned the ropes. Even Lucas electrics were reliable, a lot of improvising rubber mounted coils, lights etc and you were good to go! And yes in the old day's shadetree mechanics that equated Whitworth with metrics still went to the local hardware store on a Sunday to get a bolt that stripped the hell out of it's mating part. Even today we still see owners or new buyers of old Brit bikes and give no thought to the sludge trap! Sad
@@ragimundvonwallat8961 I only got about 6,000 miles out of the bottom end of my 73 Trophy Trail 500 I bought new in 74. No, I didn't over rev it per the red lineless tach. Rebuild got me another 6,000 and that was enough for me. I know the new gen Triumph line has much better engineering. I really admired the quality of materials on my Trophy. If only the engineering had been better. Moto Guzzi seems to do fine without a center main bearing in their V twins.
@@gregorytimmons4777 6k miles to rebuild is actually very good, what i meant is that 15k and usually you break something that destroy the engine, usually bottom end. moto guzzi, they look great by i never ever knew anyone who owned one, as for myself i'll never own one because i simply cannot own a bike with the engine mounted 'the wrong side' lol its my bike autism, i just cant
Yeah, but he is mistaking the commando frame with the isolastic (rubber mount) engine/gearbox/swingarm mount to the frame with the featherbed which had everything bolted directly to the frame.
Yes your 850 did have isolastic and it really did the job of damping the vibrations of that big parallel twin. Re handling, did you ever grab hold of the back wheel and the frame with the other hand and try moving the back wheel laterally? Amazing how much movement there was, and even more amazing that it handled at all.
brian fleming Yes it did handle good for me and sorry I sold it ....... the carbs and duel points worked pretty good, I thinking about getting a new Triumph ......🇺🇸🇬🇧
Mine was a 1969 blue metal flake roadster. I loved that bike, but it was a chore to keep running. If I still had it I would use it as a donor for Colorado Norton Works, their commando's are what Norton should have built.
Jay's comment about the sticker "for experts only" on the early Bonneville made me chuckle. In 1970, the first motorcycle I ever rode was a Triumph Bonneville. A friend rode up on it, offered it to me and like Jay I figured "I'm an expert" and took off down the street! Not really much different than riding my bicycle, as long as I kept to bicycle speeds, which I didn't! Rode that bike a lot, sophomore year of college.
Gorgeous bike, but the chain drive surprises me. I still miss my 1984 Honda Sabre, with shaft drive. Jay, love watching your channel. Thanks so much for doing this for us.
Excellent review on the triumph motorcycle. It's amazing how much horsepower you can push out of these. And the price. I think I'll stick to buy in John Deere tractors until I retire. Hope you guys have a great day keep up the good work.
And probably twice the cost too and might not be as much fun to ride either.I own a 2017 T120, riding all my life and my Bonneville is beyond more than fast, believe me. The BMW is more suited than the Bonnie to longer trips but that is a personal preference.
Yo Jay ! Before he dies, ya gotta do a show on Ron Finch, one of the original custom bike builders, up in Pontiac Michigan. His shop/ gardens are just amazing... The whole property is one big art display, and "Chopper at Large" is just your size..... ;-)
Well, Jay. As a Triumph lover myself,I think I may take one on a test drive. Especially, if, it has the classic Triumph handling and look. BE SAFE,BE COOL,AND BE HAPPY.
That's the kind of motorbike I would buy. Glider. Relaxed. Enjoying the views. Not the stressed sports bikes. Those belong on race tracks, not on public roads. IMO.

Good man! I like these too.....
I'll go with the Missenden man's Speed Twin model Bonneville ! Thank You
Nice that Triumph kept the refinements in production that capture our spirit taking it for a ride . Thanks All , Thanks be
I hope you did buy this beautiful Triumph Bonneville Speedmaster. I love Triumphs too, and this is my choice.
proper Bonneville has accommodation for a doris included in the price. is this a homosexualist machine ??
One day I'd like to come to your garage and thank you for what you do to these wonderful automotive machines
The Norton Featherbed frame was not rubber mounted, that came with the Commando. Other than that, good to see a Triumph on the show. The new models of Speedmaster seem to be quite an improvement over the previous generation 865cc (900) version.
Never been a cruiser guy, test rode one today at a demo day and loved it.
Holly smokes,, been waiting all night for the video upload!!! Worth the wait... Just missed out on some sleep... But who need sleep??? Thanks Jay...
Get one Jay. I did when they came out and never regretted it. I've put 22k miles on it and never had a single problem
I have been thinking about the Speedmaster or the Bobber. Seems the Speedmaster is probably a more comfortable and practical motorbike. Ideal Sunday driver. Thanks. Love the clips Jay.
Same bike one has more bling
In 1970 I bought a brand new Triumph Bonneville. I finally wore it out in late 1972 with over 50,000 miles on it and never had to do anything to it other than routine maintenance and tune ups. I loved that bike!
I bought my wife a 2019 speedmaster It's perfect same paint scheme it is a pretty bike
Good to see this Jay. I've owned 4 Triumphs over the years and still have a 2001 855cc Triumph Thunderbird triple, which I consider one of the finest bikes ever made. You should keep it.
Jay, It might be worth a chuckle to talk about the Whitworth tools we had to use to work on the old Triumphs.
Just got one :) it is amazing and I got it for less than half price used
Yes you can...what are dreams for?
Love the history lessons on the old iron and your take on the new stuff as well 👍
Jay, that Road test looked like "Terminator 2", all you need is the Ray Ban's & the Shotgun - Cool Man !!!!!!
When I looked at Triumph classics in '13, only the Scrambler had the 270 crank.
All the water cooled twins have that now, 900 and 1200 cc since 2016
DEaMON you have a new subscriber - me.
You guys just made the best advertisement for the great Triumph.
That's a great looking bike but I really love the looks of the new Bonneville Bobber.
love the way you can still see jays chain even with a full face lid on ...love jay leno
As a Brit bike owner of long ago ( Triumph, BSA, Norton) I can tell you that a lot of the problems those old bikes had were the direct result of shadetree mechanics that did so much stuff wrong. They were good bikes if properly maintained.
Norton fastback and a BSA Lightning. Yeah, Baby Yeah.
Sad
10 to 15k miles and the engine was done, now with nodern parts they are good
@@ragimundvonwallat8961 I only got about 6,000 miles out of the bottom end of my 73 Trophy Trail 500 I bought new in 74.
I love it....this isn't a review of the bike(s)....this is a Jay shopping trip. He's looking at that one like it's food...
Yes I do miss my Norton Atlas 750 with the featherbed frame ......🇬🇧
Yeah, but he is mistaking the commando frame with the isolastic (rubber mount) engine/gearbox/swingarm mount to the frame with the featherbed which had everything bolted directly to the frame.
brian fleming THINK I had that on my 850 COMMANDO ...... but my Atlas diffenitly handled better ....🇬🇧
Nice job Triumph! Old school revamped befitting an icon.
Jay I wish you would do a show on 1997-2000 honda valkyrie I would love to know what you think of them
Mr. Leno thanks for all the vicarious thrill I get watching you drive vehicles I'd love to own but can't afford! I do have a Midget though!
The rep for Triumph has only one adjective, "iconic".
Very nice! - though i had the Norton Dominator 600cc, back in the day, but i love all the "englanders! - greetings from Levi in Sweden
Gorgeous bike, but the chain drive surprises me. I still miss my 1984 Honda Sabre, with shaft drive. Jay, love watching your channel. Thanks so much for doing this for us.
Its an analogue duration gauge, aka a clock
I love my ‘14 Triumph Scrambler 900. She’s a keeper. Triumph does a fine job on their bikes. 🏁
Excellent review on the triumph motorcycle. It's amazing how much horsepower you can push out of these. And the price. I think I'll stick to buy in John Deere tractors until I retire. Hope you guys have a great day keep up the good work.
This is a detuned version. The higher power spec comes in the Thruxton R with 97HP.
77HP isnt much, even for a cruiser
Doesn't Jay have a Deere?
77 bhp isn't much for a liquidcooled 1200cc bike. My aircooled 1200 BMW R nineT has 110. :-) And more tourqe! And 50ish kg less in weight!
And probably twice the cost too and might not be as much fun to ride either.I own a 2017 T120, riding all my life and my Bonneville is beyond more than fast, believe me. The BMW is more suited than the Bonnie to longer trips but that is a personal preference.
If there was ever a bike that suited jay leno this is it looks really relaxed on it
I knew something was off about last night. You guys didn’t upload a video.
Always had a thing for the triumph but I love the BSA and Norton to. Love's going to Ascot Park on Friday night and watch the flat track races.
Who else has to wait for the Horn to blow at the end?
That would be both of us, but i bet we are not the only ones.
JoJo , I jump out of my skin every time!
@@Pete-z6e haha gets you by surprise every time.
WHY do you ask?
Got to love a classic clean elegant bike.
That's the kind of motorbike I would buy. Glider. Relaxed. Enjoying the views. Not the stressed sports bikes. Those belong on race tracks, not on public roads. IMO.
