It’s interesting that she sings “Don’t want no other shade of blue but you.” in this track and then on TTPD’s ‘So Long London’ she seems to be tired of loving a person who suffers from depression with the lines “How much sad did you think I had in me? You sacrificed us to the Gods of your bluest days.” On a side note: your lyrics are wonderful! I especially enjoyed the line “Why was I pretending there are starts without endings” 👌👏

I take the "don't want no other shade of blue but you" line as someone who loves someone who is sad (depression, anxiety, etc.) but loves them so much they don't want to let go of it. They still have hope, even if it's vain. I've been there, so I can relate. It doesn't end well, lol, but it's a real situation that can happen. You put this broken person above yourself in a way. I think Taylor often sings about feeling like she can fix someone, and this might be how she felt. She would stay through the darkness in hopes that it would get better. It doesn't always get better though. That hope is the hoax.

Also I think Taylor was trying to be very mature about the ups and downs about a long-term relationship…ever since the Lover album. She seemed to get that it’s not all sunshine and passion once you get a few years in. Living with his blues was a deal she was willing to make to be with the man she loved.

So many interesting thoughts. I relate in so many ways. I'm envious of people who meet "the one" when they are basically kids and don't know the angst and despair of wondering if there is someone out there for them. Why do we have to suffer before we find love? Can we even have and sustain a relationship? Is there really a forever love? Or just this moment love? Am I too picky? Maybe they weren't picky enough *laughing*. Being an introvert, I think, plays into this for me. I just don't meet people. I wonder how much of finding love, relationships, is just pure luck.

Aaaah yes. With the relationships thing. I think there's something of not conforming. At least in my case, the question of ''what if there's something more?''. Not knowing if it's normal, just a life thing, the fact that not everything it's going to be perfect. But it's really the question of maybe it could be better than this? Am I conforming too much? Is this how it has to be?. There's a song of hers, The Bolter from TTPD, it has lyrics like ''And at first blush this is fate, when it's all roses, portrait poses, Central Park Lake and tiny rowboats, what a charming Saturday! That's when she sees the littlest leakes down in the floorboards and she just knows, she must bolt'' or ''There's escape in escaping''. I love the lyrics of your song too, I'm going to think about that one like it's a Taylor's song haha. I like the line ''Maybe the story will come back and haunt me to combat how I feel''. I think that part of the situation is the part that makes us being the things that we lose. Confronting that, thinking about that, going trough that process. Taylor also says in her song Midnight Rain ''I guess sometimes we all get just what we wanted, I think sometimes we all get some kind of haunted'' as a consequence of this things you mentioned in your song. Great song man! Also, more often than not, I find myself listening to the long pond sessions, but there's studio versions of some songs that you MUST hear and I think Hoax is one of them. And as another comment said, you have to listen ''How Did It End?'' and ''The Prophecy'', they talk about this relationship thing also. And as a last thing, I share your believe, I think the thing we want the most, we search the most in others, is being understood. At least that has been my problem with relationships since... always haha. Thank you for your reaction!

I love this song. I interpret “don’t want any other shade of blue but you, no other sadness in the world would do,” as that point in time when a deep love becomes toxic and full of sadness and hurt. The love and pain/hurt become entangled, making it a “faithless love/hoax,” but you aren’t ready to give them up. You become dependent, or codependent, on the feeling of that pain as much as the love. Love and pain can be hard to separate at the end of a relationship.

I could talk for hours about all of Taylor’s songs that include lyrics about the colour blue, and how they connect. Second to that is all her songs that reference her “small town”. If I could ever interview her, I’d ask about that. Her connection to the colour blue, and what the small town she continually references means. Is it the music industry? The artistic community? Her inner world? Anyways, I’m getting off topic. Another great video!

Her idea of love and how it ties into the lyric “Don't want no other shade of blue but you
No other sadness in the world would do” reveals what she believes love should entail I think. Staying with the person you love even if they’re feeling “blue” for months on end, or longer. Or maybe you’re the one feeling low and they still stay. And will your partner stay if there’s not an end in sight where you feel better. How much can she depend on someone’s love, even when she, or they, are surrounded by sadness.

Thank you as well for sharing your song with us…the lyrics are really beautiful and thought provoking! I look forward to checking out more of your music, and these introspections of course. I adored this Taylor ear-worm already, but enjoyed your perspective on it very much. It does have this very human intangible, and unresolved feeling. She paints such a heart wrenching picture of the slow breakdown of a relationship that as a listener feels inevitable, but for the narrator feels like they’re still struggling through the complexities and holding on to “the hope of it all” to quote Taylor. Disney really has done us all a dirty disservice…I cackled a bit at that reference😂👏. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts and music with us❤

I think this version of this album is what made me truly fall in love with Taylor Swift's music. I enjoyed her music throughout the years for sure, but strangly not enough to admit I was a fan. I wasn't ashamed or anything. I just assumed her music was hella studio produced and her voice was manipulated. It's not heard of that today's singers can't actually sing and don't create their own songs.
But you can't deny it here. Her voice is so raw, there's no distraction from the lyrics. She's doing the damn thing. It's storytelling at it's best an it's got to be at least respected. It's okay if someone doesn't like the music itself, different strokes for different folks, obviously, but.....
Anyone who says she's not a legitimate and incredibly talented artist, is just a hater ass 'female dog', lol.

It's super interesting to hear your point of view about Taylor's songs, you know, it's like I don't know, I find it super interesting because as a Taylor fan it's difficult to see beyond the surface because we have so much context about her and her life perhaps.
Seeing how other people interpret her lyrics, her music is amazing, you know, like the background she can have or the complexity she has when writing and how easy it is to identify sometimes with what she writes, how she has the right words to describe something so specific. I think many of TTPD's songs would be incredible for you to hear, like The Albatross or The Prophecy, they have this duality that you can totally identify with or simply understand Taylor's point, they are some of the best songs Taylor has written or at least that's what I think.

Dang Izzy. The lyrics to your song "We're Made of the Things That We Lose" brought me to tears. Those words got to me. It made me think of what I don't have anymore in my life. Like my mother and grandmother. And reflecting on my childhood/upbringing and how I felt so blissfully happy. I still look at the world with wonder. And I also do alot of reflecting. See and understand things from a different perspective.
I was moved by your words that I just HAD to go way back and look at your older stuff to find any original work of yours and found myself listening to two of your songs that I really ended up enjoying them: "The Waves We Were Caught In" (my fave btw) and "I Could Be Yours". I love your voice and I think that you're a great musician. You sir, have my attention.
Just by listening to both of those songs of yours, your voice and sound reminds me of a few bands blending together. Like Morrissey, Live and Oasis with a hint of early Smashing Pumpkins. I'm sure if I listened to more of your stuff I'll probably hear other bands as well. Who were you influenced by? And who did you grow up listening to? Who is your favorite band/artist now vs then? You're too cool, Izzy. I dig it.

Thanks, Yvette! I've never heard of Live, but Oasis were and are a large influence and one of my favourite bands. I grew up listening to Queen, Rod Stewart, Gilbert O'Sullivan and The Carpenters. And then I developed my own tastes and interests; The Beatles, Oasis, Verve, Pulp, The Rolling Stones. Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Early Black Sabbath. Tame Impala, Lana Del Rey. And a lot of 60s Garage music. Depeche Mode and The Jesus & Mary Chain are also big deals for me. I could go on. At some point all of those have been favourites. As of now, I've circled back around to The Beatles and Oasis/

@@IzzyIzenstain Yeah, I can hear those artists in the way you do your songs. In your song "The Waves We Were Caught In", right off the rip, I thought of Live "Lightning Crashes". When I first heard it as a kid, I cried. Check it out on your own time. That same guitar sound reminded me of how Fuel's "Shimmer" starts off. And it's that 90's sound I hear that I miss. I can also hear you do the acoustic version of "I Wanna Be Adored" by The Stone Roses. Seems right up your alley.
I'll be honest Izzy, I haven't heard of The Verve besides their major hit song "Bitter Sweet Symphony". So I clicked a few videos to check out their songs and I hear their influence on you. You're a guitar guy huh? Most of these artists start off on guitar. Never heard of Pulp but played one song and they remind me of Echo and the Bunnymen, The Bravery and The Church's song "Under The Milky Way". I hear bits and parts of these awesome bands in your music.
You know what's funny? When I was very young, my mother would only play the classic oldies station KRTH 101.1 (in California) on the radio on our way to school. And I thought that was the current music being played in 1993. That is until one day a classmate of mine from 3rd grade named Lacey brought in her cassette to school. She asked Mrs. Folsom's permission to play it on her radio/cassette player that was sitting on her desk. Lacey said it was her favorite band and wanted to dance to it during recess. The teacher lets her and oh my goodness, my mind was BLOWN. I had never heard music like that in my life and I was getting so much eargasm lol. It was Ace of Base with "The Sign". The synth, the looped drum/percussive beat, the groove, I was like 'what the heck is this?!' I HAD to know more about what other kinds of music there was out there.
Again, let me remind you that music from the 50s, 60s and Motown was all I knew cuz our mom didn't want us listening to music that wasn't for our ears, if you know what I mean. So that classic oldies radio station was the safest music for us to listen to. Dude, my world opened up. As soon as I got home I did the unthinkable: I turned on my mom's stereo system that we were not allowed to touch without her permission. *gasp* It had the tuner, the equalizer, two cassette deck players and a 5 CD disc changer. Yep, I was a rebel Dottie lol.
I listened to EVERY radio station available in AM/FM. And that's how I discovered other genres for the first time. Gosh, even talk radio lol. My love for music began on that day thanks to Lacey. And rock music is my main love. Though I do enjoy listening to all kinds of music and not just one genre. As long as it gets me moving or feeling a type of way, then I'm good. Sorry for the long reply. You said 60s garage music and I thought of moment in my life as a kid.

Thank you for the reaction :) . She likes to use common phrases in songs and sometimes twists them. I find it fun. I feel like there are some songs that just resonate with something that happened in the past and then you are just like, "Ah, that is what it was." It is therapy. It puts those feelings into words and then it could even help you move on from it. I liked your sharing of your lyrics. Hope you have a good week.

I think Taylor has been through so much, A lot of us has been through it all with her. , Because we know what she's been through, Some can identify with her feelings , I think she is the best songwriter of our generation, I wasn't going to say, I saw a clip where supposedly her ex- boyfriend Joe Alwyn his favorite color is blue. 💙

  • @HiSummerWasHere
    @HiSummerWasHere หลายเดือนก่อน

Of course, poetry is subjective, but for me this song is saying “I love you so much, even misery with you is better than happiness with someone who isn’t you.” Not someone who hurts you on purpose, but sometimes you love someone despite the fact that you’re wrong for each other and it’s hard and it hurts all the time. That’s the kind of relationship that was ending for me when I first heard this song.
And maybe at the time she wrote it, Taylor and Joe were struggling to stay together. She has used the color blue to describe him in lots of other songs, and the line about leaving a part of herself in New York is relevant because she left New York to live with him in London, and then felt isolated and alone. But the line could be about something else. But it could just be poetry and not be directly describing her own life. It could be about plenty of other things we don’t know about her or her life.

It's deep that is for sure. I know what happiness is, I have had a couple, However all good things seem to come to an end , Unfortunately that's now that may be different a little later.❤

Don’t want no other shade of blue, but you. Izzy, it’s deliberately choosing this kind of sadness only because it’s from your person. Where in you realize you cannot allow yourself to go through this landscape of secondary grief with anyone else. If it allows me to be with you, then I will embrace this sorrow too - the risk being that my love generates enough joy to pull you out of it, or else, the alternative which is that I get sucked into depression with you. And I will embrace this grief and knowingly want it, because it is where you are.

It’s not Disney it’s culture and the patriarchy that says women have to find love in order to find happiness. And it needs to be true love and love and needs to be magical and all the things that Disney reflects but is not the source. I really think it’s the patriarchy. If it’s something else, I’d love to know. Boys are not subjected to the same kind of mandate, although they are witness to it and told that’s how women should be, so they buy it along with the girls. It is unsustainable, but we’re growing and we’re learning better about ourselves so that we can be better partners with each other even if that is temporary.

Constant growth is essential. Leading by example is probably the best way to change anything and influencing future generations in the best way we can.

There’s been a lot of speculation that her 6 year relationship with an actor from London, Joe Alwyn, was always depressed. She was so happy in the beginning (My London Boy) and they were both happy together. Over time she tried so hard to keep him laughing (Mirrorball), but he just wasn’t paying attention to her (Tolerate It). Finally towards the end of their relationship she tried to make him realize how much it’s hurting her (You’re Losing Me). It didn’t work and they announced their relationship had ended. No one really cared about how she was feeling but just wanted the juicy gossip (How Did It End). She became a spectacle to people rather than a heartbroken person. No one was checking in on her, it was all gossip about how they ended things even though people saw her acting abnormally and used it in their gossip. After their relationship had finally reached the end (So Long, London) she says “I’m finally getting color back in my cheeks”. In “You’re Losing Me”, she says something close to “how can you say you love someone who you can’t see is sick, we’re grey but you’re not paying attention”. It’s a callback to You’re Losing Me. It’s believed that he cheated on her in some way, could be emotionally, but he kept her a secret and was always depressed. It was weighing heavily on her and she felt that she could handle it all by herself but she finally found the strength to let him go. She seems much happier now, thankfully. If he brought her down this much, it says a lot about her that she was still willing to work on it because she loved him so much. She finally chose personal happiness over a hopeless love that was a hoax. Of course she brings Scott Borschetta into it because Joe was there for her during the year that followed that life catastrophe. They went to her home in London and healed, worked on their relationship and she wrote the album “Reputation”. I’m just skimming the surface here as her thoughts and feelings are much deeper than what I’m writing down. She feels emotions so profoundly and has a beautiful vocabulary to express herself in the exact way that she can. It’s truly a gift and I’m so grateful that we have her. Taylor is one in a million and has a huge heart. In “The Prophecy” she says she’s willing to give it all up for someone who just wants to be with her. That’s incredibly vulnerable and sad. Such a caring and loving person who wants love so badly that she was willing to be with someone who was making her incredibly depressed. I hope she finds comfort and true love someday. I can’t imagine that it’d be with a person who is using her for her connections who cannot even spell. How much do they have in common? She says “you play ball and I know Aristotle”. That sums it all up perfectly.

I believe all relationships are successful because they teach you about yourself and about what you want or don't want in a partner! Things you never could have known if you just went into a single relationship in your whole life and everything worked out. For me, I try to look at life like it's a highway and my experiences are exits on the highway instead of a stop sign! Some exits might be dead ends, some might lead you to a really beautiful experience, and some of them might lead you to people who then get back onto your Highway with you. Just my perspective😉 🫶
