    I suspect that Bon Iver is wearing his bandanna on his face because this was recorded in the height of Covid-19 in 2020.

      I actually read that a couple ago he decided his face was only for his family and friends so even without COVID he wears a face covering (bandana) in public apparently.

      @@rebeccavliet2011 That’s not true. He was only wearing the bandana because of the camera crew in his studio. That’s why he was not with Jack and Taylor at Long Pond Studio.
      He does not wear bandanas - except for during Covid. Taylor surprised his concert crowd when he was singing this song and he was not wearing anything. I’ve seen other videos of his and there’s never anything covering his face.

    I love how the back and forth sounds like an argument where neither of them are listening to each other. He thinks she gave no signs and she is saying she gave so many signs. It’s really heart-wrenching when you think about how people communicate and that’s what makes a relationship fall apart even when he is “holding all this love” as he stands in the hall behind a closed door which is just another barrier between them. 🤯

    • @GreeneyedTarot
      @GreeneyedTarot 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      lol…back to say:
      Also they are talking about seeing films and the reference to “leaving out the side door” could be to how in a move theater, the side door is typically for emergencies only. Just the visual of how I don’t think I want to see the ending so I’m just going to shut down and slip out quietly.

    The guy on the piano is Aaron Dessner, they filmed this during Covid, when Folklore was created. The split screen is because Bon Iver did his part from his own studio in Wisconsin. Yes...the man in the sweatshirt is Aaron Dessner, the owner of Longpond Studios, located in upstate New York in the Hudson Valley. Other than co-producing several different artists, and his own band The National, with his twin brother Bryce, he is also in another band, Big Red Machine with Bon Iver, (Justin Vernon).
    Taylor has been featured on one song with each band, The Alcott, with The National, and Renegade with Big Red Machine.

    Taylor’s lyrics are truly sublime, I imagine her songs will be covered in perpetuity and will be appreciated even more by future generations. The Swifties get in now but those who can’t get over the “Taylor Swift” phenomenon or just hate to hate what others find exceptional, I imagine their descendants will hear someone else sing her songs and be captivated by her gorgeous writing and melodies 🫶

It's his lake house/studio.Again, brilliant reaction and insights, thank you.and i will repeat: YOU will absolute love All too well 10 min version, i just know it. • @emmavink
      @emmavink 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Please don't react to the SNL version. It's a well acted performance. I love Taylor, but that vocal performance really wasn't great. Out of pitch virtually on every single line. It has happened to every singer that's ever lived, so I'm absolutely not saying it's a reflection on her ability. I think the SNL sound stage isn't great (I've seen other incredible artists give difficult performances on that show) and I think she was nervous.
      She did an acoustic performance of the song just with her and a guitar at the Premier of the short film she made for All Too Well (10 min) Taylor's Version.
      It is vocally virtually flawless 🥰🥰🥰 and it deserves to be promoted and celebrated over the SNL one which people just punt because it has a bougie name attached.

    Vernon recorded in his own studio, in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. The others are in the Hudson Valley, in upstate NY (on a map, some few miles south of Albany). That's Dessner's home; looks like he rebuilt a barn as the studio. There's extra rooms over the studio, and a guest cottage on site. Justin didn't join them because of quarantine restrictions (Taylor was being especially careful, as her mother was being treated with chemo for cancer.) Vaccines weren't available yet in September 2020; the first one was approved only in the third week of August, 2021.

    Bon Iver has a huge vocal range. To my knowledge, this is his natural voice.
    Aaron Dessner (from “The National”) on piano. He is usually on guitar.
    Jack Antonoff (lead singer from “Beachers”) is usually in a leather jacket playing the piano.
    Bon Iver (real name Justin Vernon) wore the bandana as Folklore and Evermore were made in 2020 during the height of Covid lockdowns (pre-vaccines) and he couldn’t travel for this live gathering due to the travel bans.
    This Long Pond Studio belongs to Aaron Dessner, at his home. Aaron, Jack and Taylor make such a well-rounded trio. Taylor usually prefers to write her songs alone, but she’s been open to collaborating with both Aaron and Jack because they’ve formed a wonderful working relationship and they are able to push each other to get the best final product. It’s fun to see some of the BTS footage.
    Thank you for covering this BEAUTIFUL album. ••There’s a fictional love triangle on here. “Cardigan”, “August” and “Betty”. One high school boy, cheating on his girlfriend during summer break and the main girlfriend talks about her feelings, years after it’s occurred as an adult. The other 2 are still in a high school timeframe. Each song comes from one of the 3 perspectives and it is absolutely genius. They aren’t even right after each other to help you understand that it’s a love triangle. She gives slight clues that they belong together, but it’s not originally obvious. I hope you see some comments to try to react to all 3 at one time. Cardigan first, then August then Betty.
    Super fun fact: her best friends Ryan Reynolds and his wife Blake Lively have 4 children. Only 3 were born in 2020. Taylor incorporated their children’s names into this love triangle: James, Inez and Betty. Just a really sweet gesture of her love for their children and Blake & Ryan. The children call her “Aunt Taylor”. They didn’t really understand that Taylor was “The Taylor Swift” because she just wants to be loved for her and to be normal with her (very famous) friends and the kids just thought that Taylor singing to them was a hobby. They were recently at the Wembley Stadium Era’s concert (with ear covers on) when they really saw and understood!! Before starting to sing “Cardigan”, Taylor smiled and said that “this love triangle has some of my favorite people in it: James, Inez and Betty”, knowing they were in the crowd and like she was talking only to them. ❤
    I’ll bet they will always remember that sweet moment. Taylor and Blake (& Ryan) are VERY close. Blake actually directed Taylor’s music video for “I’ll Bet You Think About Me”, and it really shows off Taylor’s goofy side while singing about heartbreak. Taylor is hilarious in the video, the lyrics are honest and raw. Blake did a phenomenal job.
    •Folklore’s sister album, Evermore, is nothing like this. It has a completely different feel to it.

    Taylor brought Aaron Dessner (along with Jack Antonoff) on as a producer for Folklore and the sister album Evermore. He went on to also co-produce and co-write for songs on Taylor’s albums Midnights and The Tortured poets department. He’s in a band called The Nationals which Taylor has always been a big fan of and he also formed a band with Justin Vernon (Bon Iver). I think it’s Big Red Machine which I haven’t checked out yet. According to your previous Taylor Swift videos, and seeing that you're enjoying this side of her, I'd highly recommend you to listen "Champagne Problems" and "Evermore". I'm South African and we call it a bridge too... But the second you said middle eight my brain knew the term 😂 yes, especially in commercial music, I think a bridge and a middle eight function in the same way.
    So people are you to tell you quickly, Taylor really, really, REALLY is the bridge/middle 8 QUEEN.
    She does them shockingly well. And she has talked a lot with an interviewer like Zane Lowe for BBC Radio about now she constructs the bridges to her songs and how they function in her work.
    She's explained that what she often likes to use them for is to condense a lot of information regarding whatever the song is about into the bridge.
    I'm also suuuuper into lyrics, lyrical analysis, and poetry and literary analysis, so I deep dive on this stuff 😂
    So for example (I'll add some song examples from Taylor's catalogue) , she will often use a bridge to describe a big jump in time in something like her personal/some specific individual's personal life ("You're On Your Own Kid", "Clara Bow", "The Last Great American Dynasty" ) or a romantic relationship ("All Too Well - 10 mins", "Cardigan").
    Or she will use the bridge to freeze frame a very specific and often bring the song into the present tense at a very important moment ("Right Where You Left Me", "Betty", "Begin Again").
    Or she will use it as an inner thought or reflection on the broader themes of that song ("Cruel Summer", "Out of the Woods", "Clean", "I Did Something Bad").
    And sometimes it's just a fun and sassy breakdown ("Shake It Off", "Karma", "Me!", "Blank Space", "Look What You Made Me Do").
    When people say that they have developed university modules around her work, they aren't joking or being facetious. There is SO MUCH to analyse!

    There is a weird element of the Swiftie fandom that doesn't give Taylor's ex boyfriend (Joe Alwyn who used the pseudonym William Bowery) recognition for the writing and composition he did on this song and a few others from this album (Folklore) and on songs on the Evermore and Midnights albums.
    The song is the result of the input of a handful of extraordinarily talented people 🥰🥰🥰🥰

    • @darsynia
      @darsynia 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      That drives me so crazy, like... some folks really act like his input is like a head-pat from Taylor, and it's so clear by the way she talks about it, that he started work on the song, and his input was pivotal. Like or hate him for whichever reason, but argh to those people.

    Sorry, this is looong (OG Swifties can skip) -
    Don't feel any kind of way about just now getting into Taylor's catalog. She's always been a great lyricist, however the 'folklore' album followed quickly by 'evermore' was her first deep dive into this more folky sound at least across full albums.
    Many of us older Swifties didn't really get into her until these releases during the pandemic. I listened because folklore came out of nowhere at a time when we didn't know what was going to happen in global communities. I heard the first track and knew it was for me and downloaded the album immediately and have been on board ever since. Obviously we knew of her, but like many, some of us thought that she was too country or too pop for us - she is the queen of reinvention.
    I've since filled in her whole catalog except now waiting on Debut (Taylor Swift) and Reputation. There's tons of lore out there that goes back to Kanye & Kim and the betrayal of Scott Borchetta or Big Machine Records as to why she left her NAME & REPUTATION as the last for her to reclaim.
    I love Midnights that came after those two and am obsessed with TTPD. TTPD, folklore, and evermore have such a wide appeal - my mother who is nearly 80 loves those in particular because they're in the vein of Joan Baez, Joni Mitchell, Stevie Nicks, etc. of her era.
    And as more of a folk fan, you may be interested to know that her parents named her after James Taylor. She has been able to meet and sing with him at a few different points in her career.
