My little brother just recently moved into his first flat and I helped him to search for the perfect plates EVERYWHERE. Couldn’t find what he was looking for. I joked about showing him how to make plates himself and now I’ll send this tutorial to him. Maybe I’ll even create a set for him for Christmas haha. Love how unique every piece is! 😊
Bonjour Mia.
Excellent. I have some old plates I like that I could this with. Im going to try my home made clay with this technique too just for fun. I like the idea of slab ware.
Interesting use of the bag of rice. I thought you were going to make use of it’s properties as a desiccant. I have an old sock filled with sand but I may make another with rice. Nice work and thanks!
It was very helpful thank you! I am making my daughter a dinnerware set as a wedding present and I usually sculpt birds and figures. So its completely out of my comfort zone. I've been practising already and I'm putting feet onto my slab plates. Don't I need to do that?
Regarding the glaze...are both sides poured with the same glaze overlapping in the middle? I suppose one could also use 2 different glazes.Interesting.
What type & weight of canvas is best for wedging clay on? Can it be used & covering Hardie backer board? I haven’t got to the plaster board yet; hwr, I know I’ll need a way to slow & speed up the drying without being over saturated or drying to fast. I live in southeastern USA. We generally have mildish winters. The summers, not so much. We get high humidity & high heat temperatures here. My husband moved some things around, which has allowed for me to use half the barn space plus shelves. My pottery wheel (25+/-yr old Shimpo RK Whisper) is out of mothballs again! I’m hoping to find some way to build a table around it. We will need to get another wheel if he stays with it. He’s getting pretty good at centering clay, though I think the engineer in him would do extremely well slab building. 🤞🏼 Any assistance is welcomed. I’m currently wedging clay on a Hardie backer board edged with painters tape.
1:54 I noticed that you had trouble with setting down the fabric wrapped plate so you can work with it (you just cut to the plate on the table). Maybe next time you can have a shallow bowl or wide cup ready that you can put the excess cloth knot into, while still having enough support to work on the piece.
Thank you I love this video is very informative. I am in the process of making plates to thank you. I have a question though. Where did you get your rolling pin? I’ve been looking for a large rolling pin for a while.
100% one of the biggest parts of the process is recycling and reusing. Looking for ideas without any limitation on where they come from. I cannot recommend thrift stores enough.

Sounds like a great idea! I am also quite particular about my dishes haha
That overlapping glaze trick is epic! Awesome dinner plate project, thanks!
In the results part of the video, the composition is beautiful!

Beautiful plates! I have a ? about the glazing process...what do you mix to create the glaze? How do you incorporate a color into it?
Can I ask how you get the glaze to look imperfect and lighter in some areas? Can I get this affect with brushable glazes? 😊
I love this; thank you 😊
Why didnt you glaze the back? How does that finish feel after the firing?
It was very helpful thank you!

Peace Mia, at what point do you put the mark on the plate? When you do the first dry or when it is leather hard?
What diameter was the porcelain plate you used to make the bisque mold and what was the diameter on your finished plates?

Mug version of it would be great toooo❤️❤️

Where did you buy your rolling pin? Thank you
I love your hand work how about you teach me more?
What type of clay are you using? For the original bisque then for production run? Is this stone ware or porcelain? Because of shrinkage twice.
Looks fantastic. Wanna try it in the next days :)
Love these!
Hi, i read pottery book that it is quite toxic to work it at home in small space. How u maintain?

Thanks, good tip
What is that machine called you used to bake the glaze?
What’s the reason you roll the plate on fabric to make your mold?

I Want to know where you got the rolling pin too. My teacher In ceramics had one and I never got to ask!
My plates neatly always crack in the kiln, any tips to prevent this?
Esse esmalte já vem preparado ??
Who makes the rolling pin you're using?
I got it from a German company called BSZ Keramikbedarf :)
@@PotterytothePeople Thanks!

What is the machine name that you use at the last step
Is this still technique still an option if the plate has a foot?
What kind of clay and firing cone?
Hi, is it ok not to glaze the backs?
Nice video
why don't you stack them on to each other in the kiln?
Omg its uranium orange I just saw it
Please write me the material you made
Where can I get one of those lazy Susan's!!?? Love this!!
They’re called banding wheels! I just use cake decorating wheels because they’re basically the same and a lot cheaper 😂
Any pottery supply store will have them! I have my tools linked in the description.
May I ask NABERTHERM TOP LOADING KILN TOP45L is enough for a small studio’s workshop?
That's pretty small! But I get by with a 50L. It depends on what you're making though... small or large pieces.
Like a trash
