    Hi Kevin and Sarah. I made this meal for my husband and I tonight, and I made the home made teriyaki sauce. Oh my gosh, we loved it! My kitchen smelled so good, and I will never buy store bought soy sauce or teriyaki sauce again. I watch you every day, and Sarah has taught me how to can. I canned my whole garden this summer. God Bless you and your family. ❤️

    Do y'all make your own brown sugar? I do. Just add 1-2 TB. of molasses to a bag full of sugar and put it in the mixer for 15-20 minutes until the molasses incorporates to your sugar. Instant Brown sugar! Just place a slice of bread or one of those clay pucks for keeping brown sugar from hardening and it's all good to go. Doesn't matter what sugar or your preferred preferences of molasses.

      @waltlars3687 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What size bag of suger ?

    • @shonitagarcia3222
      @shonitagarcia3222 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@waltlars3687 I play it by ear. I would say, I use a 4quart mixer with about 6-8 cups full of sugar in it. And for every cup, you add about 1-2 TB of molasses. It's really up to you how dark you want your brown sugar. I use black strap molasses. And you use the whisk attachment on the mixer to mix the sugar n molasses. It takes a long time. Like 20-25 min. at the most. And it will combine. I don't really measure it anymore. I just eyeball it. If it looks too light brown after a while, I add more molasses. Can't go wrong really. If it's too sticky I add more sugar.

    Nice recipe on that soy sauce. We will try it. Here's a tip for you on this dish: You can slice the cabbage core into thin slices and still use when cooking the cabbage. Also, to add some color and interest when I fry cabbage, I add thin slice carrots. But since your wife doesn't like cooked carrots, you can do this with red bell peppers instead. Also a few sliced mushrooms is nice if you have them.

    Thanks Kevin. I've used Braggs Liquid Aminos for years instead of soy sauce. I'll have to try your recipe for a change of taste. I love the different nuances that changing the sauce give to food. My hubby's teriyaki sauce recipe has pineapple juice and chunks of fresh pineapple in it. Much Love

    Thanks much for the soy sauce and teriyaki recipes, Kevin...! Now here's my recipe tip for you. Make your own brown sugar by taking granulated sugar and just add blackstrap molasses. Tastes far better than the packaged kind...and cheaper, and you can make it as dark or as light as you want. About a teaspoon molasses to a cup of granulated sugar and mix well.

      Learn so many kitchen things and homemade recipes with you, here in my country many empty lands are unused for planting herbs andbother vegetables, i am planning to buy many big plant pots and will start to plant we dont have huge land just enough for a residential usage so plant pots are good enough maybe to start.

Or whatever you have. But that’s just me. I’m sure you eat enough healthy food with your great garden. It’s always a blessing to see you and Sarah together. May God keep His hand on your family.

    I make a lot of my own sauces, it's fun and better quality than mass produced items. Braggs makes liquid aminos that are made from non-GMO soy protein and no gluten, so no wheat. I use it as a sub for soy sauce, but you can get Tamari that is good healthy soy sauce. I also make my own kinds of vinegar, plum, apple, rice, black cherry etc. I would be really great to make balsamic!!! It would be great to really reduce the dependency on using "store-bought" items. TY

    The reason that low sodium or light soy sauce still tastes really salty is that it is still really salty. Sodium Chloride is just one of many many many types of salt. Reduced sodium soy sauce and likewise reduced sodium table salt add in Potassium Chloride as a substitute for some of the Sodium Chloride. I will be trying your recipe because my husband has to follow a low sodium diet and when you do really reduce your salt intake, when you do have something with the full amount of salt it tastes waaaaay too salty. I recommend everyone try it. Give up salt for a few weeks then go to a chain restaurant; you will not believe how much water you will need to make it through that meal! anyway, a less salty soy sauce sounds really appealing, thanks Kevin!

    What you made there is a gravy. If your looking for non-soy sauce you need to have an umami and fermented flavor upfront. I would suggest swapping beef with dashi broth, then adding some grain alcohol(wheat beer would do best). Then I would cut out the cider vinegar, and use fresh garlic and ginger.

    The sodium issue is basically the only thing I don't have a problem with in soy based soy sauce. I'm a high sodium diet to address a medical condition, but having an option to make a truly low sodium version for family and a higher sodium version for myself is definitely a plus! And no soy. I haven't been diagnosed as allergic, but I'm definitely very sensitive to anything other than soy lecithin, which seems impossible to avoid in any store purchases now.
