Best seat in the house! This car really illustrates the definition of the old saying, "straightening out the corners". Almost no perceptible body roll here, even with 50 year old suspension technology on a 47 year old car. He was going beyond the 7200 rpm shift light on the main straightaway every time! I'd bet he was almost pegging 8,000 rpm. I was concerned towards the end when the black corvette started catching up, but he never got by.....

Great video, broght back allot of memories. Has been 25 plus years since I have turned a hot lap at PIR. Even had the opportunity to co-drive the enduro once back in the day. Looks like the curbing on the West end is different now, was real tall back then. Ran a few times at SIR and the last year at Westwood before they turned a very nice track into condominiums.
Really brought a smile to my face waving at the turn workers during the race. I seemed to never find the time for that. Well except in the enduro, when you are loosing your concentration. It was lilke ... ok, I am loosing focus, I will wave at the sound guy this time etc..
I first cut my teeth @30 years ago, as crew on a Cougar Eliminator with a Boss. Was the suspension guy ... ok ok ... the guy who bleeds the brakes every time the car hits the track. Back then we ran the Rose Cup without muffled exhaust ... good times for sure. Strange, then you start driving you still are the bleed the brakes, tire pressures, torque the weels guy too!
Keep up the terrific work, and for sure keep picking on the bow tie guys!!!

I remember this Ford jingle very well. My father bought a brand new red '67 Mustang Fastback, 289 4V, stick for $2800. he used to drive the '67 in road rally's. Years later in the early 1970's he bought a few years old green '69 428CJ Mustang Mach I. He sold the '69 around 1973/74, during the Arab Oil Embargo.

My mom made him sell it so I couldn't drive it. He bought an Opel GT he did let me drive on dates. Cool beans those old cars.

    • @HenauderTitzauf
      @HenauderTitzauf 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

That distributor placement is one of the many reasons I liked Fords, but many reasons later from owning gm cars that broke me from liking their cars. 1955 Chevy 210, v8; 1972 Chevy VEGA(double ugh)(crap), 1979 Buick Electra 225, Limited. Now that is my gm list. All three caused me and my exwife mountains of repairs, lost trade-in values, and lots of grief. I never liked the distributor in a place near the firewall. That caused me gut hurting trying to reach it. They say the Ford emblem has circled the problem, but I believe it’s the circles that Ford has run around the competition.

Nordic Viking, I am an old, old Ford guy. Love that 427 Stang! But I have to say, I am completely dumb founded to see my old friend and next door neighbor, who I have not seen since 1965, Crew Chief, Jim Brownlee! He and I started out building Flathead V8s back in the early 60's when we were in HS, Tacoma WA. I left for the service that year and he moved to Oregon and we lost touch. If you see him tell him (Ivy) Iverson said Hi!

ppmguire My 67 was the same lol, the dam spring would loose its boing and the glove box came flying open and went bang spilling everything onto the floor Lol

All that technology and they can’t build the glove box to stay shut . Probably all the thrashing and vibration doesn’t help. What a car👊

Anyone know where the damage the passenger side rear quarter-panel came from? Was it from the vette, or was it prior to the race?

I will try to keep this short. I love shelbys, have several, most needing full restro and a few bosses, what I don't have is deep pockets, never have, I guess you could say I'm was a budget racer. I had a few gas stations back when they were available for the average guy, with bays, so me being a ford guy I got a 1967 gt-500 race car from a friend's family, who had passed away in his porsche, at Sebring, It had and still do a Holman Moody 427 Tunnel Port, dual 4 in it. I upped to a dan williams manual, a few improvements and raced scca and some imsa here in florida. Never had the funds or the backing to really have all the good stuff, but boy I had fun. Sometimes working into the morning rebuilding something, then loading up to go to a race weekend, many times by myself.
Now all these years later, I can say, those were some of the best times, no money, no crews, lots of hard work, long hours, but ohh such a thrill, like a rocket ship. One funny note. When rebuilding once, the pistons were so loose in the bores, they would wobble, I laugh, but that motor, never blew up, felt like it could rev unlimited if I let it.
I still have the car, all the spares, motors, extra hm parts, often I dream a little dream....
Loved watching this video, I know the driver is feeling what I felt a long time ago, all that power, thanks for the memories.

being able to beat corvettes is certainly a testament to his driving skill and the way the suspension is set up because that is one front-heavy car , right there . and no independent rear suspension either . but i don't think that really matters too much on a smooth track

    **Chevy owners/racers**
All you have to do to make your GM car faster is to paint its engine Ford blue, and play that old Ford commercial jingle on your car stereo during the race. Some say that any time a Chevy beats a Ford, it's because did those 2 things! Lol
