I have a 1961 Ford Galaxie Starliner. It has one of the 500 ohc 427 engines that were supplied by Holman Moody. I am in New Zealand and it is unique in this country. I have waited over 40 years to find and purchase this vehicle. I will never part with it
My wife and I visited NZ several years ago and were amazed at the passion and dedication to Detroit Iron by the Kiwi's. We checked out a couple of local car shows on our travels and had some good conversations with folks. Their ears perked up when I told them that we lived near Detroit and I had worked in a Ford factory assembling cars on the production line in the 70's. Good times.
Wow! Seven days a week. I’ve heard the names Holman and Moody my whole life but never knew anything but that they built engines. These videos are treasures of history. Thank you.
I rebuild a set of Holman-Moody 429 BOSS head when I worked in a machine shop. The heads had 2 plugs per camber and the intake runners had epoxy on the floor for more velocity!
WOW, what a fortunate man to have experienced a piece of Americana on this level. Back in 1965 , a friend of mine from Charloette, N.C., owned a 1964 Mustang convertible with the 289. He was of wealth, his dad owned Pic & Pay Shoes (not sure of the spelling but there was a store in Salisbury, MD and Melvin was the manager. He was the son of the owner). Either that summer or the next ( I am 75 so please excuse), he had a Mustang that sounded like the most bad ass Chevy V-8 with spoked wheels on the front which would lift the front wheels. Impressive. He and his family bragged how Holman & Moody did the engine. Am I the guy to say false? It did pick up the wheels with a 289 under the hood and the rear ratio was not the reason. Holman and Moody knew their stuff!

I remember when Holman Moody was at the top of Shell Hill in the city of Signal Hill. It became Bill Stroppe Enterprise. BTW, this video is a nice break from the utter insanity of current times...
@@EngineBuilderHallofFame They made engines for Century and Donzi from what I remember? Big and small block Ford engines with and custom exhaust risers.
I was employed with Bill Stroppe in Long Beach for 4 years in early 80's...one day they rolled in this big tool box with a funny name lettered on it "Lujie Lesovsky"...next day this little old man that looked a lot like an old shoe cobbler showed up for work, put on an Indiana Oxygen Apron and started fiddling about on one of the race trucks...after watching him work for a few weeks, I asked him if he could help me with my fender on my motorcycle...that began a 12 year mentoring until his passing...taught me almost everything I know and he always enjoyed a dirty joke... No, they didnt exist till 10-20 years after the godfathers had started. that would be Ed Iskendarian and Frontenac above all ass they built hot rod Ts in the 30s... Edelbrock was next, then eddie meyer, offenhauser, winfield, roof, ardun, weiand, atc. Holman Moody didnt do anything till the late 50s
@@Shadow0fd3ath24 While all the product makers you listed made their marks in racing equipment, they didn't have the depth of knowledge and extent of manufacturing to the extent Holman Moody did. Holman moody could build a car from the ground up!
How Kool the story from those who were there. I cannot believe the hours you all worked and still kept up the quality. Why didn't they hire more people? Was it because there were not enough capable of the work?

I have a question when Carol Shelby was ordered to remove his engines out of the GT 40 and they were replaced with Ford factory engines and they failed at Le Mans due to head bolt stretch were those engines from Holman and Moody is what I would like to know and perhaps who was responsible for that

Keith Dorton is an absolute genius and I’ve had the pleasure to work side by side with him at Bonneville. Some of the best times in my career.

Ford's outside racing shop. Legends of Ford racing.
I've got a single plane Holman -Moody four barrel intake manifold for the Ford 240/300 six that was intended for boat racing.
Cool. Post a picture.

Keith Dorton is a legend. Not as well known to outsiders as Waddell Wilson, Robert Yates, Jack Roush, or John Kaase. But well respected.

He is right about the marine division success. Holman-Moody engines went into a ton of boats.
Ed's in the video about Vic Edelbrock and Ed Iskenderian

Good memory
back in the day if you saw the h/m logos and the competition proven decals on Fords you knew they were the real deal
Waddell Wilson was on Dale Jrs show and said he made $1.50 at their shop and did work everyday.

Holman Moody had a lot Talented people working for them throughout the years Waddell Wilson Robert Yates and list goes on and on
love the history of the Ford teams . he just ain't whistlin' dixie #blueoval
Weren't they involved in NASCAR's Compact Class ? I seem to remember them working on a 1960 Valiant for Marvin Panch.
A freind had a 63.5 Galaxy that was a Holman Moody car. It was a 427 and it was fast. Especially for a highschool car.
Does anyone know if Tommy Turner started at Holman Moody? One of the underrated but great engine builders in racing.
I'm subscribing because i love these stories
Pete Taylor was the man awesome engine builder
I know Kenny Thompson personally,he is a fabrication guru watched him build several GT40s like every single part of them
That's cool!
FYI; Le Mans 24 Hours & Monte Carlo winter road rally were two entirely different events.

Fred Lorenzen’!
Great video.
Just subscribed to your channel. 👍👍
Thanks for the sub!
The only ford team that could really give them a real fight on there hand was the woods brothers
I liked and subscribed 👍

Back in the Y block days 😂
They were FEs , no Y blocks after about 1960.
@@oneninerniner3427Y blocks were still being built and modded by holman moody into the 60s, Gotta remember they started in 1955
Ralph Johnson
Does anyone recognize the name Vic Smalldino ?
I think he is Ben Dovers cousin.
He was Eddie Murphys Freind who got killed in Beverly Hills cop.
Ken Miles and Carroll Shelby beat Ferrari
You're right but Holman-Moody did build the engines of all the winning GT40s and Mk. IVs
