You brought up an interesting point that I always bring up to people when you said “And I know, it’s just a kids movie. But How To Train Your Dragon is a kids movie”. Having a younger target audience is not an excuse for your film to be unwatchable for other ages. There are so many movies that are entertaining for all ages. If a writer struggles to give a family movie an interesting plot, it’s not because making a movie for adults and kids is somehow ‘paradoxical’, it’s because the writer is lazy and not creative enough to come up with something good. Megamind was one of my favorite movies as a kid, and it remains like that when so many other childhood classics have gotten worse. One of my favorite movie critics gave the second Sonic movie a very high rating because “It’s nothing great, but it’s not trying to be. It’s a movie about Sonic, what do you expect? The plot is cliche and a lot of the jokes fall flat, but it’s a kids movie”. One of the greatest animated movies of all time is about a panda learning Kung Fu. Ridiculous, seemingly childish plots can have good writing.
httyd had my mom and i BAWLING our eyes out in theaters while my little brother ate popcorn off the floor. Those movies are exceptional, and absolutely should be a standard that YES kids movies CAN have substance while being entertaining. Meanful movies can absolutely still be fun for kids

9:03 there's actually a weird bit of history why Hershey's chocolate tastes... _like that_ During WW2 when rationing was going on, fresh milk became very expensive. Pasteurization wasn't a thing yet, so milk would spoil by the end of the day if it wasn't used up. Milton Hershey bought up this old milk and dehydrated it to a powder, both to make his milk chocolate cheaper to produce and to help out struggling dairy farms. This cheaper (and nastier) version of Hershey Chocolate was incorporated into the war rations of US soldiers, and because of how rare treats like that were on the war front, chocolate became a comfort item for them. When WW2 ended, returning soldiers were sad that chocolate back home just didnt taste the same as the stuff they had in the war. Hershey ended up keeping the war time recipe because it was popular with the former soldiers, and it has stuck ever since. Nowadays they use butryic acid for their ✨️signature✨️ flavor instead of powderized spoiled milk due to potential health concerns with the latter The More You Know 🌈🌟
@@chromesucks5299 Either you don't like happy stories or can't accept Hershey isn't what you think it is. >americans dont know any better Another person making ignorant statements about Americans. @@chromesucks5299 never denied that the cheapness wasn't a contributing factor, but it was more complicated than just that. Boiling it all down to "Americans don't know any better" is really disingenuous, and ignores the more complex parts of history simply because it doesn't confirm your biases
@@chromesucks5299 It's not a fact. If we want "real" chocolate we pick up Ghirardellis or chocolate from one of a laundry list of other ubiquitously available U.S. brands that meet and often exceed your special European requirements for chocolate. Or we'll turn to a more artisanal brand, most of which are still widely and readily available. Or we'll make it ourselves. Is junk food popular? Yes. It's also popular in Europe. Oh noes! Does its popularity translate to a rational and informed belief that Americans don't have easy access to and consume quality food products? Not unless you're an ignorant, small-minded bigot, and damn if there aren't legions of you derping around like you're programmed to do nothing but spew ignorant ish about all-things American. I remember watching minions when it first came out, not thinking much of it "oh well, that was a kinda passable movie if anything not terrible but not good at all" Then later on, I looked at its box office only to realise it made over a billion dollars and soon after I realised just how much I despised them ruining the word minion.
what I really didn’t understand about despicable me and minions is that every villain has to have a secret base but they are not hidden or very secret at all, you can just walk by scarlet overkills house right now. Can we also talk about that how come the anti villain league can’t even find a secret base but it’s in plain sight.
I still don’t know why Illumination would make a spin-off movie for the Minions. This is basically making a spin-off movie for Jar-Jar Binks. Made to make little kids laugh, and annoy the parents watching.
Beware, it had die hard fans that will die on the hill of it being the best movie ever made. I know as a die hard fan of Thomas the Tank Engine, and someone who agrees it’s a hot mess along the lines of Shark Tale.
Fun fact: So you know how in 13:19 they r getting chased and whatever. In between them escaping and this scene they get their flowers from a hospital where someone has died…… Super fun and family friendly (dies on the inside)
I was obsessed with this film back when it released. I’d been a fan of the Despicable Me stuff for a while, and thought the Minions was funny, and as soon as I head there was a whole film about them I went to see it on day one. Maybe it’s not a cinematic masterpiece or high art, but for what it’s worth I do think it’s enjoyable.
As someone who used to live in Orlando, literally a 15min drive from Universal Studios, I can agree that that is indeed where the villains held their meetings. RIght inside the globe.
But God has helped me to this very day; so I stand here and testify to small and great alike. The minions always reminded me of the Zoombinis game from my childhood. Where you’d be able to customize a bunch of little bean people and solve puzzles. The minions can have the same body type/eye number/hair type, etc and have differences. So you’d have a tall one with one eye and three hairs or a tall one with two eyes and a bunch of hair…
Fun fact, Illumination movies are fully animated in France. The minions speak gibberish in a french accent because they're voiced by the co-director of the franchise.
I showed my mom this movie even though she can't stand the Minions. But she loved the 60s references (she was born in 67) and I showed her the sequel because the 70s references and she grew up in the 70s. But her favorite scene is when they started doing a Minions cover of her favorite song, "Hair" from her favorite musical/movie, "Hair" (she had a crush on Treat Williams).....she busted out laughing. She hates the Minions but she loves the movies.
9:40 George Lucas, M Night Shyamalan, Quentin Tarantino, Tim Burton, Peter Jackson, John Carpenter... Not to say tech crews for films don't deserve recognition (they deserve WAY more) but films take hundreds of people pitching in their part, and unlike everyone on tech crew who has a specific mechanical skill or knowledge to do their part the most effectively, putting yourself in the position of an entirely different person isn't easy, and just read up on what Jim Carrey went through with the Grinch to see how some actors go through hell dealing with makeup and costumes alone. They also do dozens if not HUNDREDS of takes and trust me in scenes where a character is falling or getting hurt in some way, the actor feels that the morning after. There's also a notorious amount of psychological stress in playing an especially intense character, or when you're a woman doing an intimate scene with a billion cameras on you, it's definitely not easy nor is it "the least work" in making film. I get it's a joke and artists and technicians deserve to be just as famous, but outside of particularly easy roles where an actor gets to just play themselves sitting down, playing a character is absolute hell a lot of the time. If actors didn't have the job that inherently demands people stare at their faces for several hours, then it wouldn't make sense for them to be so famous, but that's sort of how it works with people remembering a name. Long comment and I recognise this was literally like a three second joke, but as someone with experience, you'd be VERY wrong to think acting is the easiest part of filmmaking.
Literally never heard of the last two and I hate M Night Shymalan's stuff and I think Burton is kinda a loser and most of his stuff after 1999 (not all of it) is kinda shit. Bro should've stuck with his lil short films & stop motion tbh (I don't really remember why you're bringing them up I just like to talk about hating M. Night Shymalan as a bit bc of the The Last Airbender movie but I genuinely do thin Tim Burton's stuff kinda sucks now. Maybe it always has.)
@@Aphelion.s_Abyss Peter Jackson did lord of the rings and John Carpenter has been composing orchestral themes in film for decades. I was talking about famous people in film who weren't actors (or at least not known for acting).

9:03 there's actually a weird bit of history why Hershey's chocolate tastes... _like that_
During WW2 when rationing was going on, fresh milk became very expensive.
Nowadays they use butryic acid for their ✨️signature✨️ flavor instead of powderized spoiled milk due to potential health concerns with the latter
The More You Know 🌈🌟
@@chromesucks5299 Either you don't like happy stories or can't accept Hershey isn't what you think it is.
>americans dont know any better
Another person making ignorant statements about Americans. Maybe you don't know better.
> hershey has so less actual chocolate in it that it isnt even 'classified' as chocolate in europe.
Why are you telling such obvious lies?
@@chromesucks5299 never denied that the cheapness wasn't a contributing factor, but it was more complicated than just that. Boiling it all down to "Americans don't know any better" is really disingenuous, and ignores the more complex parts of history simply because it doesn't confirm your biases
Yappers! Oh my god!!
It'd be fantastic if one day I could wander into a random comment section and not find one or more of you executing your programming, spewing away about one of the largest, most populous, most culturally and socially diverse countries on the face of the planet.

The franchise used to be fun, but now, it's just getting despicable.
15:15 To be fair, Gru's style is pretty outdated, looking like how the mid-20th Century interpreted sci-fi future technology.
Everyone asks what the minions were doing in the 1940s but never asks what they were doing in 2001
They were running Enron.
Why, what do you think they were doing?
I LOVE the Minions. I have watched this movie a million times and I don't plan to stop😉.
"Sailor Moon Pictures"😂😂
PLEASE DO A VIDEO ABOUT DISNEY'S "ZAPPED"!!! 😓
My farts are better than Alex Meyers' farts.
YES!
I concur with this
Danny Gonzalez made a video about Zapped, you could probably check it out
I think he did?
Edit: nvm I was thinking of someone else :
I remember watching minions when it first came out, not thinking much of it "oh well, that was a kinda passable movie if anything not terrible but not good at all"
Then later on, I looked at its box office only to realise it made over a billion dollars and soon after I realised just how much I despised them ruining the word minion.
"praise alex" we say in unison
My farts are better than Alex Meyers' farts.
Praise Alex
6:58 this part had me crying ngl lmao
what I really didn’t understand about despicable me and minions is that every villain has to have a secret base but they are not hidden or very secret at all, you can just walk by scarlet overkills house right now. Can we also talk about that how come the anti villain league can’t even find a secret base but it’s in plain sight.
If they did that they'd lose funding so they only hit a few every budget renewal season.
ERIC CARTMAN?????? 14:07
Love the animation at 13:28, well done
12:06 DID THEY SAY TIKKA MASALA?!
Yes, they did :D

I can't say why but I love these movies. They are easy to watch and highly entertaining. I guess I do know why.
14:00 Kevin sounds like Анатолий Папанов playing Волк
I love this movie. It’s my favorite Illumination movie.
13:46 never in my life have I thought for a second I’ll be listening shi like that about a *minion*
With the way Kevin pointed at 4:12 its possible the minions were serving the funny Austrian guy
6:03: STOP THIS IS PERFECT
😂😂😂
You should review Kubo and The Two Strings
I still don’t know why Illumination would make a spin-off movie for the Minions. This is basically making a spin-off movie for Jar-Jar Binks. Made to make little kids laugh, and annoy the parents watching.
Children today have the attention span of a goldfish, and their parents just put these for them just so they don't annoy theme
Well I thought it was actually kinda good. I mean, honestly yeah crazy decision but like??? It's surprisingly not bad.
Disney would lovwme a JarJar movie right about now.
Would be better than what else they made.
I can think of 1.2 Billion reasons why
@@hassathunter2464Please, I'm begging you, do not give them any ideas.
My guy, you have not LIVED til you've watched the hot mess that is Thomas & The Magic Railroad...
I will say. That minions run mobile game was so good 😂 I was hooked! Only good things to come from this whole minions thing
8:42 YES THANKYOU , our food is so good ? I don’t get it ???
Gotta love how they had to come up with a convenient excuse to make sure the Minions wouldn't have served Hitler.
i keep thinking about how 2015 is almost ten years ago and i shudder at the thought of
As someone who used to live in Orlando, literally a 15min drive from Universal Studios, I can agree that that is indeed where the villains held their meetings.
RIght inside the globe.
i was just saying i wish a new alex meyers video would come out and it did! it made my night
The fact that the minions don't serve Hitler was a missed opportunity to show that the minions aren't that evil
In all honesty, this is probably my most favorite movie from this franchise.
It's so increadibly dumb and stupid, it becomes great again somehow.
But God has helped me to this very day; so I stand here and testify to small and great alike. I am saying nothing beyond what the prophets and Moses said would happen- that the Messiah would suffer and, as the first to rise from the dead, would bring the message of light to his own people and to the Gentiles.
Acts 26:22-23
Great video keep up the good work
Alex my boy, you gotta do this movie called Stardust. Literally a fever dream at some points, youd love it
Peak!
15:45 my sister said “ when she dies.”
And then it perfectly said
“Me too :D”
Fun fact, Illumination movies are fully animated in France. The minions speak gibberish in a french accent because they're voiced by the co-director of the franchise.
Can you do the movie “If” next?
These videos are 2 things
1) makes my day
2) EVERYTHING I want to say during the movie
I actually thought this film was alright, I enjoyed it way more than I thought I would. Despicable me 3 though..... not so much
It's crazy how DM3 is WORSE than Minions. That shouldn't happen and YET
Bro should've stuck with his lil short films & stop motion tbh
(I don't really remember why you're bringing them up I just like to talk about hating M.
Just to clarify, the villaincon being held in Orlando, FL is Illumination taking a dig at Disney.
we need a video about legend of the seeker
The one thing that the studio did was there were able to effectively create new iconic characters. Pretty much everyone around the world somewhat recognizes them and since they don’t really talk it makes it easier for kids in different languages. I don’t think any of their movies are particularly good but props to them for creating this generations SpongeBob
Unironically I think this movie has one of the best soundtracks of any movie
