My absolute favorite joke from that movie is him spraying her with the hose, "apologizing," and then spraying her again. That spoke to me like nothing else.
I think I'm genuinely pissed off that there have been 4 movies, and in those movies Gru and Lucy had 147 dates leading to a wedding, as well as making a new kid in the fourth film, and yet the 3 girls still haven’t aged at all.
I agree that at least they could’ve aged the gorls up a little bit to make the passage of time feel more apparent and believable with Gru and Lucy having a child. They don’t need to age them instantly into teenagers, but they could definitely be a little older like Margo could be in her early teens, Edith could be a pre-teen and Agnes could be around the age when most kids start elementary school, definitely out of the toddler age she was in the previous 3 films.
Well, I mean, it's possible for all of this to occur in about a year's time to where height and appearance in general aren't very noticeable in that time frame. If they went on 1 date every day, that's 147 dates. And say they finally did the deed on their wedding night. She can have a baby without the gorls aging that much. So it can be realistic. Now, I don't know what they are proposing the time frame to be between the second and third movie and from third to the fourth. So depending on the time frame, I would say it's possible unless it's suppose to be a year or so after each movie. Then... yeah, they should definitely have aged a bit at least. Change their clothes is nothing else.

I love lucy and Gru's chemistry. She's someone who can adjust to his lifestyle, accept his past and his girls, and role with the wacky antics of his life. And he's someone who can accept and roll with her absolutely unhinged personality and energy. Like the only reason that woman is single is because she is A LOT. and i love he for it 😂
I liked the "147 dates later" bit. Gru and Lucy didn't just suddenly marry in the span of weeks, they actually had a proper relationship before tying the knot. so many series have the main leads marry quickly, it's unrealistic.
Just having a blank screen with text that fast forwards the relationship building is functionally the same as any other story directly skipping to the wedding.
I find it odd that the filmmakers cared about time in this film compared to the sequels, especially the upcoming 4th film where Gru and Lucy have a baby just out of nowhere with no build up or any proper passage of time to conceive a child. At least from what I can tell with the second film, it takes place a year after the first film, enough time for both Gru and the gorls to have gotten accustomed to their lives as a family and for Agnes to miss her biological mom.
Gru and Lucy's relationship is the best part of this movie. I always cheer when Lucy announces "I choose Gru!" on the plane, and when Agnes recites the poem at the end to her new stepmum.
Plus, it’s not just the standard main character getting a love interest sequel-cliche, it does make sense and feel like a natural progression for Gru’s arc from the first film when he’s fully accepted his new lifestyle of being a father. Plus, it makes sense considering a year has passed between the first and second film and after living with a single adopted parent for so long that the gorls would naturally miss having a mom. Especially Agnes considering her younger age compared to her older sisters and the indication that she was the closet to their biological mother and the film does a good job showing how she’s having the hardest time dealing with the absence of a mother figure.
@@dumbledoratheexplora1140 I think that’s kind of the point. One of Gru’s neighbors pressuring him into dating a woman is what makes him hesitant about pursuing a relationship, so when he finally finds genuine love for Lucy, it becomes a believable and an emotional moment because it’s the first time his love is natural and not coming from someone forcing him into a relationship. Heck, he even chooses to ask Lucy on a date on his own without any help or push from his daughters or Minions. It shows how love comes naturally from him developing feelings for a girl he already has gotten acquainted with and not from trying to hook him up with a random girl he obviously doesn’t share anything in common or want anything to do with them.

Yeah, I know it's just a joke but honestly, my dad wouldn't have gone through that! And he's a good dad! And my birthday parties were never that extravagant. Just a few close friends and family. That's it. Nothing super spectacular. That sounds like I don't appreciate it, but I do! Just saying that I never had a bouncy house or a fairy princess, nothing compared to what she got! Again, not saying this as a jab, just mentioning. I loved my birthday parties as we would have them in the hotel, since it would be too cold to have it at the beach due to my birthday being in the cold winter months. I always wished I had it in summer.
Really, I know it was supposed to be a joke but the whole everything men do is the bare minimum has become so bad that it makes the minions seem smart.
My favorite part of the movie that Alex didn't talk about was when Margo gets dumped by El Machos son and shes just sad and is like guys are dumb and Gru just pulls a great dad move and comforts her while also getting back at this 10 year boy who broke his little girls heart and just freezes him 😂 Like its just such a good dad moment that I love
The craziest thing about Minions being so popular is that even when we got their full history (i.e. they weren't created by Gru) that didn't stop people from still liking them despite the clear connotation.
"Gru does the bare minimum as a dad" When was the last time you jumped off the roof in a pink fairy princess dress for your daughter's birthday? When was the last time you spent the entire day with the neighborhood wine moms so your daughter could have fun with her friends? When was the last time you did a complete 180 in your career so that your kids could have a better life? In fact, when was the last time you framed a child with a felony to protect your daughter from a broken heart? Gru is a tremendous father, and this "dads do the bare minimum" joke is far too over used and belittles hardworking men far too often.
I think this "joke" is more about dads in marriage, not single dads(simply because those men, that don't really want to take responsibility for their child, wouldn't take this child after divorce). There are too many fathers, that don't do *anything*, and so those, who actually do something (even if it's just a bare minimum), become praised as if it's something special (meanwhile nobody praises moms, who do absolutely the same). So while there are actually great dads, that do a lot of work for their children, that they actually love, there are too many lazy irresponsible dads, and some people try to call them out for it.

That minions giggling at Ramsbottoms' name shows just how much they are the weakest part as right after that we get the much funnier interaction of Gru calling him "Mr. Sheep's butt", which he corrects that it's Ramsbottom only for Gru to reply "Like that's any better!" You can definetely see the Minions and their antics becoming a lot more prominent in Despicable Me 2, but the Gru/Lucy relationship gives the film a heart that Despicable Me 3 lacks, which at that point really didn't know what to do with Gru now that he was happily married and not a villain. The less said about the Minions movie the better, although the followup Rise of Gru is a vast improvement thanks to Gru as a child villain.
To be honest, I like the Minions. As a kid I found them hilarious, and being older I still they can be pretty funny. I don’t think they’re annoying or terrible.
I get what you're saying but I honestly think the minions are actually funny in despicable me 1 and 2 and this part is one of them. They reminded me of children who would laugh at adults when they say something not normal.
Doing some research I found out that Gru is in his mid fifties and Lucy is in her mid thirties. So Gru got himself a young woman for his age. He’s a player
I actually experienced the "Gru-ties" thing when I was in elementary school, if I ever bumped into someone they'd rub the spot and rub it on someone else and say "-name- germs no rub backs!"
Without getting into it my original name meant tea in my language so people would be like "anti tea vaccine!!!" and pretend to vaccinate themselves whenever I just walked past. Good times!!! Definitely didn't contribute to anything for me Also just to clarify I wasn't bullied (just) for my name it was because I was neurodivergent
3:46 "A dad doing the bare minimum" *Gru organising the entire party, barbecueing for everyone then getting lowered off his roof by a rope while dressed as a fairy.*
Fun fact: I was terrified of the purple minions for over 10 years lol. Literally my biggest childhood fear and now i watch them and I just can't stop laughing 😭
honestly this whole series just has it done right. From the first movie, they gave us characters that we would instantly love and come to care about, and in this one, it’s Lucy, she’s just amazing
Honestly, I think the minions are the kids favorite characters is because they don’t understand the story that much. Maybe I was just an idiot child, but I couldn’t follow the story, it feels like it had a few complicated plot points. Similar to the incredibles, where there are themes and big chunks of the movie never got. The minions are a bright color, make unusual noises, and do “funny” skits that any kid can understand. As long as you can capture the kids full attention and understanding, even for a small bit, they won’t mind the rest of the movie. I mean most movies will keep a kid intrigued with the images and sound, but that won’t be the kids favorite because they can’t understand are relate. Anyway, that’s just my take. I’m not a child psychologist so this is all just what I’ve picked up from my own experiences and watch others.
During the height of the pandemic, especially while a lot of us were in lockdown, many of us discovered stress eating. And once the biggest cause of stress went away, we didn't magically just discover a new coping mechanism.
I think the first one was the best just because the minions hadn’t become too mainstream yet. They didn’t know the success they would be thus they weren’t rlly important. But once they saw it, they gave them side quests and movies etc. the movies are good or decent but they got worse as it progressed because they shoved boomer jokes in our faces
"Sometimes I eat, instead of facing my problems." First I chuckled at the reaction at 3:14, then I stared at the Pocky in my hand and got awkwardly silent.
I love this film, which is just so odd because I really don't like DM1, 3, or Minions 1&2, but this film just hit the right amount of comedy, stupid humour, realistic crazy romance, and funny spy stuff that I just really enjoy it.
The original of that song is my mother in law's ringtone. Now every time I hear it I will thinking of penguinz0 stealing an SVU in Fortnite. Phenomenal.

Well, if they’d had names that were popular at the time, real-life kids with those names would probably have gotten teased about it and grown to resent the movie. Using old-fashioned names means you have a) fewer real kids with the same names as your characters, and b) for those few kids who do have those names, they have something newer and cooler to be associated with than someone’s great-aunt.

You can definetely see the Minions and their antics becoming a lot more prominent in Despicable Me 2, but the Gru/Lucy relationship gives the film a heart that Despicable Me 3 lacks, which at that point really didn't know what to do with Gru now that he was happily married and not a villain. The less said about the Minions movie the better, although the followup Rise of Gru is a vast improvement thanks to Gru as a child villain.
TL:DR the humans are funny. The jellybeans aren't.
To be honest, I like the Minions. As a kid I found them hilarious, and being older I still they can be pretty funny. I don’t think they’re annoying or terrible.
I like how they were fighting each other with medieval weapons at the beginning of the movie
this barely has anything to do with your comment, but i always thought his name was Lambsbottom, not Ramsbottom lol
HES IN HIS 50’S?!
The Despicable Me wiki says Gru is 44 and Lucy is 43. Where are you getting this information
You need to look up the definition of a player 😂. An age gap does not equate to "a player"
a player is someone that dates people and breaks their heart after
@@fiishcaake isn't a player synonymous with a cheater?

Please... don't
Alex's fanfic at 8:44 had me rollinggg
He's good.
Too good.....
I kept thinking the joke was going to end but it's still going😅😅😂
He 9:23 got real serious with the fanfiction
😂I had to skip half this video
I actually experienced the "Gru-ties" thing when I was in elementary school, if I ever bumped into someone they'd rub the spot and rub it on someone else and say "-name- germs no rub backs!"
Me wearing glasses and childhood asthma were treated as such at school too. It hurt a lot...
Without getting into it my original name meant tea in my language so people would be like "anti tea vaccine!!!" and pretend to vaccinate themselves whenever I just walked past. Good times!!! Definitely didn't contribute to anything for me
Also just to clarify I wasn't bullied (just) for my name it was because I was neurodivergent
ow :( I hope life has been fair to you both since then

It was a joke. it's a fictional kids movie about supervillains and minions 😂😂😂😂😂 calm down Karen.

@@rosepetalgarden me too
I love Alex’s beef with the minions when they’re characters for the 3-8 year olds to lose their minds over. Beefing with a toddler stand-in 😂
Fun Fact: 13:31 for those who don’t know voice actor is Mabel’s voice from Gravity Falls
Kristen Schaal
Yea I recognized it
Dang it I was gonna say that
Omg, yes!
She also voices the ape from cloudy with a chance of meatballs, barb
Fun fact: I was terrified of the purple minions for over 10 years lol. Literally my biggest childhood fear and now i watch them and I just can't stop laughing 😭
13:55 They could've just put her in the trunk like Lucy did to Gru.
Dude, I know. It makes no sence. I don't get it.
Well it is funny but cute at the same time that he loves his daughters to the point he would dress up like a fairy princess for Agnes birthday
My favorite part of this movie was the purple minions. They were so insane and out of control, I loved them every single time they came on screen. 😅
Absolutely. They crack me up
They were crazy
They traumatized me 👍
I loved how Gru was still able to recognize them after that. It was a great way to build on the running gag of the first film.
honestly this whole series just has it done right.
15:08 Alex laughed the same time as me. I'm cracking up 😢😂
"SOMETIMES I EAT INSTEAD OF FACING MY PROBLEMS" same gru, same

4:08 oh no not a ugly girl!!
During the height of the pandemic, especially while a lot of us were in lockdown, many of us discovered stress eating. And once the biggest cause of stress went away, we didn't magically just discover a new coping mechanism.
5:34 “and that’s how I met your father”
lipstick tazer:D
I think the first one was the best just because the minions hadn’t become too mainstream yet. They didn’t know the success they would be thus they weren’t rlly important. But once they saw it, they gave them side quests and movies etc. the movies are good or decent but they got worse as it progressed because they shoved boomer jokes in our faces
DM 1 and 2 are genuinely good movies in my opinion. 2 is very underrated, understandably so. After that they do get really bad.
8:42 The fact that El Macho's nane is also Ed makes it so much better
When ever I hear El Macho, it reminds me the song "Macho Man".
Oh alex, you're in for a ride....

5:48 - As a long-time Fortnite player, and someone who has fully embraced the chaos of its newest season, I loved this bit 😂
I love Lucy's and Gru's, character design being opposite from each other :>
I love this film, which is just so odd because I really don't like DM1, 3, or Minions 1&2, but this film just hit the right amount of comedy, stupid humour, realistic crazy romance, and funny spy stuff that I just really enjoy it.
After this one it goes down hill…
Also I couldn’t watch this as a kid because the purple minions scared me so much 😂

Hello Alex! I've been watching your videos for a few years now. I don't know what you did, but the scripts lately have been so hilarious! Your jokes, segues, and non sequiturs have been on point. Good job and keep doing the lords work.
Why did I never notice the girls all have names that were common in like the 1950's. Who named these orphans?
Well, if they’d had names that were popular at the time, real-life kids with those names would probably have gotten teased about it and grown to resent the movie. Using old-fashioned names means you have a) fewer real kids with the same names as your characters, and b) for those few kids who do have those names, they have something newer and cooler to be associated with than someone’s great-aunt.
I love that Gillian has a Karen haircut. 😂
And yes, Agnes is beyond Adorable. ❤️
4:41 now as grown adult this joke is way more funny 😂
