    You are a great man of knowledge, Richard. You explain everything in great detail and breakdown. Oh, that was a great limb walk at the end of video. 👍🌲

    Thanks Richard! I’ve been carrying a rollnlock ever since you made those videos about them. Great device.

    Thanks Richard! I’m 40 and just started climbing trees in July, you Legends provide vital inspiration to folks like me! Pruning my topped maple made me also appreciate and re-invest in my lanyard. Your “cheap” setup reminded me of my own - While wanting to try a shill rope slider, I discovered a way to improvise one. I use termination knots on 8mm distel hitch cord to capture both an oval carabiner and a large rappel ring. I have been able to clip the snap hook back to the rap ring for a mini MRS end. I really like the omnidirectional tending and compact & flat feel of it. It’s field serviceable with $4 of hitch cord. I’m watching the metal on metal, presently mine has an aluminum DMM biner and large steel ring (steel does feel heavy), and it shows no grinding/mashing so far. An $8 upgrade to an aluminum rap ring is nearly as cheap as I am ;)

    This was fun to watch. Another old guy here that just finished working three trees. I really like my 16 strand 2 in 1 with aluminum snap hooks.

    You always put such consideration into the systems you use. I benefit from all the time and thought you put into keeping you safe and functional in the trees…all I have to do is wait for your videos to show up and I don’t ever have to put any thought of my own into what I do…. I’ve had triple snaps jam and never put it together that the doubles don’t have the same tendency. Thanks.

      Thank you. I do experiment a lot and love to overcomplicate, it's a process of learning then find myself returning to safe, simple and functional.

    Interesting on the snap binas. Here in the uk, we are not allowed to use the double locking ones, only triple, I have heard some people have had the triple ones jamming. I've not had that problem with mine. Maybe they are jamming because of the side loading you mentioned.🤷🏻‍♂️

      I think they also can get little debris twigs bark in those mechanisms and prevented from working during a climb. I mean that's what we do with those we throw them around the tree all the time.

    What does the ring do in your minamalist lanyard? Ive been using one like this, just added a pinto pulley spacer as a pulley, it works well. Would it work better with a ring around it?

    I use carabiners from Camp made of steel, and i have to screew to get them locked. I prefer to be in charge to keep me and my gear safe. My logic is,
    If i rely on gear that is supposed to lock by it self, i might miss when it fails. So all my moves, all my rope transfer etc is made with consciousness, and as long as i know i do things on purpose, then i will be safe.
    This works for me, but if your system works for you, then it makes me feel good that you do what you need to do to be safe.

      I assume you are talking about screw gate carabiners commonly used for rock climbing. I think the concern and the reason they are prohibited for working arborists, is the chance of them un-screwing as we are moving and bumping into so much tree structure. SPRAT and rock climbers would not have that issue.

      @@RichardMumford1 Yes, its one of those, and i fully understand your reasons and it makes sence.
      Btw, im not a rock climber, i do recreational tree climbing.

      @RichardMumford1  ปีที่แล้ว

      Steel is a great option for the momentum needed when throwing.
