I spread my brothers ashes in the deepest darkest hollow of the redwood forest I could get to. And had this album downloaded on my phone. I played this and asunder. I will love forever brother. Now I cant play these songs without shedding tears. May we see another again in time my dearest friend.
If your comment isn't bullshit: both WITTR and Asunder are some of the most moving and melancholic "modern" music I can think of - and I'd like to think I would do the same, man.
After reading this comment it has inspired me to write some song lyrics about your story... Into the woods Your journey was great but too short A special bond, only we share As I walk on this path I see nothing but nature and true beauty The screams they echo, your name they cry I look up and see giant red trees Emotions are high There you were in the sky In my hands I hold you Spread to be one with the earth Until we meet again Now whenever I hear those screams It reminds me of the trees and our journey A tear will fall.
yeah for those who think this is cult I would say it is more of an earth movement and if you wish to know just open your mind to this reality...which is many experiences
The torment has ended The beast has done his work Great fires rage outside of this wooded sanctuary But soon they will be quenched by a purifying rain The embers of the ceremonial fire burn to ash A new warmth stirs within the center of the earth I am alone here no more The wood is filled with the sounds of wildness The songs of birds fill the forest on this new morning This will be my new home Deep within the most sacred grove The sun god is born anew I will lay down my bones among the rocks and roots of the deepest hollow next to the streambed The quiet hum of the earth's dreaming is my new song When I awake, the world will be born anew
DublinFrodo black metal always meshes so well with nature and themes of nature. I wonder why that is? I think it's the beauty of the lyrics clashing with the music which is harsh at first, but is itself a beautiful unified whole. Or maybe it's just the raw untempered sound of the music that works well with the nature themes which is itself raw and unbound. Black metal like this is also very meditative. It's the kind of music that I want to listen to for its own sake, not just to pass the time while doing something else because otherwise it can't really be taken in. Idk but I know these lyrics wouldn't work anywhere outside of black metal, and it sounds so good within that framework. Pure genius.
I will lay down my bones among the rocks and roots of the deepest hollow next to the streambed The quiet hum of the earth's dreaming is my new song When I awake, the world will be born anew
@Patrick Edwards I'm not saying I disagree with anything you said, but to me a genre of music is about the music, not about the theme or lyrical content of the band, while Black Metal started strongy associated with satanism and all that stuff, it evolved to a number of different ideas and sub genres, now we have bands writing songs about nature, metaphysics, fantasy, spirituality... what matters is the music, that's what defines Black Metal to me
Well there are plenty of genres that use theatrics, imagery, specific lyrics to convey a particular type of atmosphere. Thats a main driver in black metal, Why do you think most black metal uses shrieks instead of guttural growls? It displays more agony, grimness, despair than other types of vocals.
RazorHeadMetal i find the idea of the shrieks being cosmic shrieks of universal angst and despair to be more compelling than them evoking the imagery of a boogie man created by religion. the pantheistic black metal is way deeper than the satanemo black metal shit.
***** I love Bathory :D I agree with your comment, but there were some other bands around with satanic themes in the 80s in the thrash/death scene, bands like Blasphemy, Sarcofago, Sepultura... some of these bands influenced MayheM from what I know, I may be wrong of course, and in the early formation of BM, Black, Death and Thrash weren't that differentiated as distinc genres as today, they evolved over time I believe.
I agree, black metal is defined by the sound, not the lyrical content. That being said, one genre of black metal I can't really get into is"Christian" black metal. Part of it is my disdain for organized religion. Part of me just feels like Christian ideals being imparted into a black metal sound just feels "off", even if the sound itself is genuine, like in the case of Crimson Moonlight, an otherwise very solid black metal band. I guess what I'm saying is that if the mood of the music and the lyrics are congruent with one another, I take no issue with it. Certain themes just don't work for black metal in my opinion. But in the case of things like Wolves, their lyrical themes absolutely work very well with the sound.
I Will Lay Down My Bones Among The Rocks And Roots The torment has ended The beast has done his work Great fires rage outside of this wooded sanctuary But soon they will be quenched by a purifying rain The embers of the ceremonial fire burn to ash A new warmth stirs within the center of the earth I am alone here no more The wood is filled with the sounds of wildness The songs of birds fill the forest on this new morning This will be my new home Deep within the most sacred grove The sun god is born anew I will lay down my bones among the rocks and roots of the deepest hollow next to the streambed The quiet hum of the earth's dreaming is my new song When I awake, the world will be born anew

Was given WITTR - Thrice Woven apx 14 months ago. Their 🎵 was just transfixing, dark, w great lyrics and mystic overtones. Went and bought every release I could find. Think I have all but 1. The covers are great also.
huh? at least half of the black metal bands active today have forests and/or mountains on their album covers and have songs that are predominantly about forests and/or mountains... wittr rule tho.
Yea,but I still like that kinda shit to..fuck it..thats a Christianity based bullshit anyways..but still there's good shit out there that plays on that ya know?- just my opinion ..I definitely like this to of course...Alot
With bands that tend to rely more on their instrumentals, growls are nice and low as to not interrupt the flowing melodies. I actually prefer growls because of this.

My condolences, music helps in so many ways. I'd go insane without it.
In time you'll be together again.

Into the woods
Your journey was great but too short
A special bond, only we share
As I walk on this path
I see nothing but nature and true beauty
The screams they echo, your name they cry
I look up and see giant red trees
Emotions are high
There you were in the sky
In my hands I hold you
Spread to be one with the earth
Until we meet again
Now whenever I hear those screams
It reminds me of the trees and our journey
A tear will fall.

This song is a spiritual experience. Raw, earthy, verdant, and lush. One day we will all return and become one with the Earth.
yeah for those who think this is cult I would say it is more of an earth movement and if you wish to know just open your mind to this reality...which is many experiences
I wish I could like this comment more than once
I spread my brothers ashes to this. I will love u forever my best friend.
This song is really like a journey to another dimension. Incredible. Always leaves me speechless.
The torment has ended
The beast has done his work
Great fires rage outside of this wooded sanctuary
But soon they will be quenched by a purifying rain
The embers of the ceremonial fire burn to ash
A new warmth stirs within the center of the earth

The songs of birds fill the forest on this new morning
This will be my new home

You can judge how good a band is by how much they make your neck hair stand up

Samritpal Singh Why are the lyrics to this style of music always so damn poetic!
+telephone bear Because it's esoteric enough for the mainstream to take no great interest in it.

This is so epic,atmospheric hymn
Glad to see an environmental themed bm band instead of the generic corpse paint satanic stuff
huh? at least half of the black metal bands active today have forests and/or mountains on their album covers and have songs that are predominantly about forests and/or mountains... wittr rule tho.
Yea,but I still like that kinda shit to..fuck it..thats a Christianity based bullshit anyways..but still there's good shit out there that plays on that ya know?- just my opinion ..I definitely like this to of course...Alot
I'm not sure dying in a forest is necessarily environmental themed, but either way, great song.
Saw 'em at Desertfest a few hours ago. I think they pretty much won the festival. SO GOOD.
