In my opinion if it doesn’t feel good on your foot it doesn’t matter how durable it is cuz you’re not going to want to wear it. Comfort is a must.

This might be a dumb question but do you ever actually take a shoe to 300+ miles? I see these durability estimates of 400, 500....even 600 miles and I think that's not even close to realistic. Most shoes (regardless of brand) I've ever had felt pretty dead/worn out after 300 miles

Got the new Cloudsurfer 7. First ON shoe. Have always worn Brooks and Nike. Have to say, if these hold up, it’ll be hard to go back to the others. These things are great.

    My ranking:
    1. Performance (50%)- how well does the shoe perform given its category
    2. Comfort (25%)- how comfortable and secure is it
    3. Value(20%)- cost taking performance & competitors into account
    4. Aesthetics (5%)- how excited does the design make you feel

The only thing I would do is just take the price out of the scoring system. Once you give the final score then list the price and say whether or not you would buy this shoe for that price. If you would not, provide a cheaper alternative that is just as good or better.

Durability should definitely be last, how can you predict it? Too many variables, surface you run on, weight of the runners, gait etc.

QOD: There could be differences in importance of the levels of the ranking system depending on whether the shoe is for racing (and for what distance) or if the shoe is just for training. Speaking for myself, I am more concerned with maximizing performance on race day than comfort and the opposite for just training days.
    Racing:
    1. Fit
    2. Ride/Energy
    3. Weight
    4. Lockdown
    5. Price
    6. Upper
    7. Comfort
    8. Midsole

    As a wide foot: 1) fit 2) ride 3) midsole 4) comfort 5) lock down 6) weight 7) upper 8) price 9) outsole 10) durability
Nike, Adidas, Hoka and many others NEVER make the cut, due to toe box size. New Balance and Saucony will always be my top two choices due to that FACT.

Hi Jon - I’m flat footed and have orthotics… and bought the wide Cloudgo. I was really surprised on how this one fit for me. I had some Hoka’s before but I felt high-center in the shoe. Had some ASICS as well, but they didn’t work well for me either. Saucony or Brooks have been my normal go-to’s and now ON Cloudgo has opened a new door for me.

Hi Seth & the DGR Crew
For me it’s Fit & then Comfort because you can have the best price or great durability or energy return but if there not comfortable or don’t fit properly you can’t use them anyway to take advantage of great energy return or bounce or durability.
    Thanks for asking

  • @robertvwarren

    QD (most to least important):
    1 - Comfort
    2 - Ride/Energy
    3 - Lockdown
    4 - Weight
    5 - Fit
    6 - Midsole Overall
    7 - Upper Overall
    8 - Outsole
    9 - Price
    10 - Durability
Aside from clear defects, I’ve never had a shoe last me less than 200-300 miles. So, durability just doesn’t factor into my considerations so much unless the shoe is clearly defect prone.
For me, comfort is absolutely key. If I’m not comfortable in the shoe, why the heck do I have it on my feet? There is a ton of competition and great shoes out there.
After that, it’s all about that ride and feeling throughout the run. Each category (in my ranking) impacts this feeling less and less as you go down it.

  • @guiibogar
    @guiibogar ปีที่แล้ว

First priority would be to take the shoes to enough miles to do a proper assessment. Everything else comes after. I say that because I have changed my mind in several shoes between mile 30 and mile 100 for example (for the better and for the worse too).

  • @CallMeFail
    @CallMeFail ปีที่แล้ว

In order from most important to least: 1. Upper / Midsole Overall (equally important) 2. Fit 3. comfort 4. Ride Energy return 5. weight 6. lockdown (although I would include this with fit as a category) 7. Outsole 8. Durability (while important I feel like its usually a given a shoe will last at least 300 miles) 9. Price (it matters, but the performance of the shoe comes first)

  • @geoffb2900

Normalizing shoe evaluation factors to be independent of each other might improve the scoring system. Prioritization effectiveness is currently limited by factor overlap. That said, here is my current prioritization: 1--Comfort (as another commenter said, if it's not comfortable, I won't wear it and none of the other factors will matter); 2--Fit (part of Comfort); 3--Ride/Energy (the shoe must "flow" well given its intended purpose); 4--Lockdown (also part of Fit and Comfort--shoe must not slip around); 5--Upper Overall (includes some of factors 1-4); 6--Midsole Overall (contributes to Comfort and Ride/Energy); 7--Weight (lighter is almost always better); 8--Outsole (rarely a differentiating factor); 9--Durability (only relevant to me if the shoe will not last 400 miles); 10--Price (because price varies over time, it should be stated as MSRP and not qualitatively evaluated. If desired, a separate "Value" factor could be added to the scoring system based on MSRP).

  • @philippegagne268

1-Comfort/Fit 2-Ride/Energy 3- Midsole 4- outsole (trail shoes). All other categories are somewhat less important to me.

    5. Lockdown
    6. Outsole
    7. Ride/energy
    8. Upper overall
    9. Price
    10. Comfort
Fit is high up because I'd rather not get blisters, bruising, or nerve compression from the shoe. Midsole overall is next despite ride/energy falling to 7th. I'd rather run fast because I've strengthened my legs, not because I'm running on trampolines (I do like bounce in some shoes, just not all). Durability is important though, I don't like throwing shoes away.

The Cloudmonster is great, but I did feel like the upper stretched out rather quickly. I didn’t get as many miles out of them as I would have liked. The ride felt “dead” after a little over 100 miles. Did anyone else experience this?

This QOD could be opening up a can of worms!
Some categories are subjective and may differ from person to person. (i.e. Fit - depending on the shape of your foot, or Midsole - depending on your weight or footstrike).
Others categories are more objective yet may differ from shoe to shoe based on use. (i.e. low weight, low durability & high price may be an acceptable - or even preferable - combination for a race day shoe but the exact opposite should earn higher scores for a daily workhorse.)
Which is a long way of saying, how much I care about each category really depends on what I will use the shoe for… sprinkled with a dash of understanding how you and I are different runners.

Found this a little late - been looking out for Cloudgo reviews too! I've been a big fan of On and worn their shoes almost exclusively for the last four years. I've been a staunch advocate of theirs to pretty much anyone who'll listen, but over the last month or so my enthusiasm has waned for one reason or another.
Previously I would have said that the Cloudflow was my favourite as a great all-rounder, but recently I've changed my mind and it's gone from being "very good at everything" to "not quite good enough at anything" - not cushioned enough for long runs, not fast enough for races, not durable enough to make it a good value purchase.
