Classics is a back door secret easy entry for a select few public schools who offer A level Latin and Greek - many sixth forms both state and public do not. Interesting besides typical majors(math, economics etc) you find in bulge brack banks - Goldmans sachs, JP Morgan etc. there are many Classics majors as well. Diversity in hiring
definitely, but oxford classics course considers and accepts plenty of students who did not study latin or greek at alevel too, they take a 4 year course with the extra year involving intensive latin and/or greek lessons to get them up to the same linguistic standard as people coming in with a qualifications in a classical language.
@@almasamocha3018 oh, could you please tell what all does the classics degree at Oxford entail for someone who has never learnt Greek and Latin before?
@@aei7944 yeah of course!! it's essentially the same except for the additional year, at least at oxford to my knowledge - the standard course is a 3 year one, which involved lots of language work and translation but also lots of philosophy and literary analysis, and if you apply without having studied latin or greek before then you study for 4 years and spend the first year doing lots of language to get to the same standard of language and translation as everyone else. you should have the same opportunities content wise as everyone who has done a classical language before uni
hey Lucy ur videos are really inspiring I really wanna get a mathematics degree It's just I luv maths I luv doin it I'm in Sri Lanka Doing my Cambridge AS level How can I apply for oxford or Cambridge With scholarship?
It depends on how close/related the courses are. If you get in for one of these but then want to transfer to something entirely different you’d normally just have to reapply for the new course.
I have failed two subject in my bachlor degree. One subject in 1st semester and another subject in 3rd semester but i have cleared both subject successful in my second attemp. Since we have 10 GPA system I got 7 point in my bachlor .am I eligible for applying in oxford?
High acceptance rate is not the same as ‘easy to get into’. For example, classics. Those who are not from private / elite school have little to almost no chance to get into. For majority of students in England they have no chance of studying Greek and Latin. Those who apply and are interviewed by Oxford colleges are already elite. (It is also traditionally an elite subject in England, so those who would study classics were already well prepared while those with no classical education at all would not be interested in applying and there’s no economic motivation like law/maths which attracts many students who don’t have the potential/or even general interest in the subject). All these contribute to higher acceptance rate.
🙌🏻 earth sciences have a high acceptance rate because it’s a multidisciplinary subject and most people switch majors when they realize it’s less school and easier classes to be a doctor or chemist. 🤷🏻♀️ it’s also a great degree to have before going into a more challenging program because it covers so much

@@almasamocha3018 alright, thanks a lot!
Theology is likely so well accepted because both Ox & Cam have whole theological colleges - Wycliffe and Westminster.
Beauty with brains
You missed Chemistry. They interview 78% and acceptance rate is also 40+% and most importantly, there’s no admissions test for Chemistry and Biology.
DEAR LUCY,
