Lyndon Amick: From Racecar Driver to Deployed in Afghanistan

  • Dale Earnhardt Jr. sits down with friend and former NASCAR racer, Lyndon Amick, about his life as racecar driver, combat soldier, and his miraculous journey to pick up the pieces of a broken life.
Shortly after the birth of his first son, a race at Talladega was the pivot point for Lyndon Amick. While spinning backward in a massive 20-something car crash, he decided that he was done. Lyndon walked away from the life of a NASCAR driver. He decided to enlist in the military. His life switched from race days, interviews, and appearances to drill sergeants stripping down his being to build the perfect soldier. His mindset was clear. Not only did he want to serve his country, he wanted to fight for it.
For Lyndon's entire story, go listen to The Dale Jr Download podcast on dirtymomedia.com or any major podcasting platform.

Same. While I never went through what he went through, this one was powerful. I particularly like the way Mike and Dale just let him talk. I could feel the "tension" in the room from listening to it. You could hear a pin drop. It just shows that what he was talking about was being taken in and hit home.

That's what makes this show so special. You get to look inside the personal lives of the people who have made this sport what it is today. What an opportunity we've been given by Dale and his crew.

I agree with that. Nascar has done a horrible job, historically with promoting these type of personalities beyond the race track.

This podcast in its entirety is the absolute best yet. There’s much more content than what’s in this video, so go find the complete podcast and digest it. The freedom Jr and staff gave Lyndon to be so transparent is awesome. I knew Lyndon back in his karting days but had no idea where his life had gone after racing. I thoroughly enjoyed his transparency about his experiences, his accomplishments, and his failures. This is a story that every man should take the time to hear. 👍👍 to Lyndon and Dirty Mo Media for making this golden podcast happen.

Random comment and not sure who this can even reach, but over the past few years i've struggled heavily with mental health and anxiety. Loved hearing Lyndon's story. This show has literally changed my life over the past few years. I find myself listening to the show during the week and it's really helped me process internal thoughts and has helped me become a better version of myself. I've gained so much respect for Jr. and the team. This has been the best year as the leader of my family. My marriage, relationship with my kids and friends and family is much stronger and I credit a lot of that development to content like this that has helped me process, heal and recover. God bless you guys. It may be just a podcast to some... but it's literally changing lives.

Being from South Carolina myself, I am very familiar with another SC native who is Lyndon Amick. Lyndon's father Bill Amick owned Amick Farms in Batesville-Leesville. Governor David Beasley allowed the SC tourism department sponsor Lyndon's Busch Series car in 1998. In the 1990's Lyndon was South Carolina's racer and the state was behind him as he raced on a national scale. One article I remember that was written on him in the 90's asked what his childhood dream was. His answer in the story was to become a NASCAR driver or a SC State Trooper.

Dale has some great people in his life. Dale as the ability to become one of the best interviewers of his generation, not just about racing, but a general interviewer about everyday life with everyday people, plus celebrities and well known individuals. To get a man such as Sgt. Amick to open up and project such honesty is a real gift, and says a lot about all three men at that table. Great job, everyone.

Lyndon your a standup guy who I would love to know. You’ll never know the impact your sincere honesty and heart felt way you stepped up every time and told the true story barring nothing. You made a great choice and from my 20+yrs military service and combat vet everything was spot on about the military. Oh that chow hall part with 20 seconds to eat and make formation to March or drill was a surprise for me to hear because it was exactly just like that when I went through Boot camp in 67. That whole time helped me identify my negative ways and make the appropriate changes. Great job Lyndon.

Men like Lyndon (there's not one on every block) they are cut from a different cloth than the rest of us, there is a different kind of voice that speaks to them than the one most of us hear in our head's everyday. I believe their Heart's beat just a little stronger and a little faster than the rest. Chris Kyle was that way, Pat Tillman too & when I look at Lyndon, that's what I see.
