      If you mean the sea at Hastings, it can look so much more glorious. The same at the White cliffs in Dover and 7 Sisters in Sussex, I think it's the chalk that does it...but of course, you need sunshine 😂🤦‍♂️

      Haha we knew it was daft to believe the hotter than Spain reports, but occasionally it does happen! It's just funny because there wasn't even a speck of sun 🤣
      Parking is a bit iffy in Hastings itself but I do think it's worth stopping by that country park in summer where you can park a motorhome too. No overnighting sadly (I think) but good for the day. Thanks guys hope you're well 🤗❤

      Hi Morgs, Jo & Boo ❤ Thank you, the mud would've been more fun with wellies so we could feel like kids again!
      In Hastings the surrounding cliffs and countryside is worth it, as is the old town, the other areas probably need a bit of love, but there is definitely a lot there and it has lots of arcades and amusements etc.

    Almost sliced the roof off my T6 at the arched tunnel Stephen walked through in Folkestone.
    It is 6'6, but only in the centre, so reversed back using the door mirrors, back past the chippy, and there is free parking there.😉

    • @comealongdear

  • @menopausalmotorhomer
    @menopausalmotorhomer 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    I remember your photos of Folkestone and thinking what a great place to visit. Do you think the regeneration has anything to do with the footfall "Le Tunnel" might have brought? I never think to stay over as I always rush for Europe but this has made me think I might have to do a stopover before heading over the Channel next time. Great vlog again (I'm having a binge catch up with a cheap glass of French wine on a rainy bank holiday Monday 🙂) ❤

    • @comealongdear
      @comealongdear  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Nothing better than a bank holiday and wine! 😁 I think the tunnel probably has had some influence, but it certainly took many years after the tunnel came along, because that coincided with the port closing and then other things being lost on the seafront. So it's taken them a while to revive it, but yes definitely worth a day visit now I'd say. Not sure about overnighting though...I think there's a spot down the harbour which is quite pricey at £20 a night (not sure there's even services), and there is a campsite not far. We had to park for the day to explore which did the job!

  • @findingxanadulife

    Wow, it is so good to see a British seaside town on the up. So many of the places we visited in our childhood have decayed and become forgotten. Well done Folkestone, shows what can be done when you put your mind (and money) to it.
    Mud, this is the one thing we don't miss about the UK. Sausages, Yes! SUNDAY Roast, Definitely! Cadburys Cream Eggs, Don't even get us started! But mud 😡
    Oh and strange you should mention nudest beach, we took our first outing into naturism this week.
    Much Love Alison & Darren ❤🤟

    • @comealongdear
      @comealongdear  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi guys, it was such a refreshing sight to see a town at least try to revive its fortunes. And scenery wise that place definitely doesn't get enough credit.
      Christ the mud...if we had to list one thing as the worst about winter in a van, that would be top, even above cold temperatures. Absolute nightmare in our small van. Now we just take our shoes in and let them dry so we can brush it away easily a day (or several) later. But in April, we're so bored of that now...and still no good weather on the horizon here 😬
      Now I 100% get why you miss those things, apart from sausages as aren't they everywhere? Although thinking about it the British ones feel quite specific to here.
      Oh you found a naturist beach too, will this all have been (tastefully) filmed for a future vid? 😄 I (Dan) tried it once in Gran Canaria, purely to know what it felt like to swim naked and it did feel amazing in the sea to be fair.
      Anyway, now I fancy a roast dinner damn it 😋 😜
      Love to you both ❤️ 🤟

    I went to Hastings for work once about 25 years ago. Only saw the seafront, but it looked a dismal place. Hopefully it's had a refresh since then.
    Folkestone looks lovely though!

    • @comealongdear
      @comealongdear  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      🤣 I think Stephen would agree with you, he used to live there years ago. It's definitely a bit rough and ready in places, however the old town is quaint, and the walks from the beach up onto the cliffs are beautiful. It's bizarre how these things work- for every Brighton (not that that's perfect) there's a Hastings which doesn't have anywhere near the investment or snowball effect required to become "trendy" and popular. Yet on paper there's no reason it couldn't have been the other way around as geographically they're pretty similar 🤷‍♂️
      Folkestone still has its moments but it's good to see the effort put in compared to what it was

    • @comealongdear
      @comealongdear  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The weather for the area just had the typical "hotter than Spain" forecasts you sometimes see (presumably meaning somewhere warm, or Spain's average for that time of year) which does sometimes happen, but there was absolutely no sign of it on that day!

    I never mind what you do & quite like it if you just meander along without a plan like we used to when we were able to get out. We'd throw a picnic together & head for the coast & just see what we came across before we got so hungry we had to eat. Rarely bought food as it's usually not so nice anyway as well as pricey.
    It's still far too water logged everywhere to go walkies on unmade pathways even wearing wellies unless you like a soggy muddy backside!
    Keep up the friendly videos, you feel like old friends even though I've never actually met you in person, very enjoyable every time. 🤗

    • @comealongdear
      @comealongdear  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      What a lovely comment to read, thank you 🤗 I think you've summed up the best part of travelling around, no pressure to be here or there or follow a strict itinerary, just going at your own pace and seeing what happens. Even when we go to Europe next month, while we'll look at some places in advance so we know roughly what direction to go, we mostly won't know this until a couple of days before each location. Sitting and planning a 2 month journey before you've left suits some people but I think that places a lot of expectation on your trip!
      Taking a picnic on a walk is one of the most gloriously freeing things 😍 But you're right, it wasn't even welly weather, just horrendous sludge right now. Oh well, I think the sun's on the horizon somewhere 🤣

    • @anniemac3075
      @anniemac3075 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@comealongdear Sun, what's that?
      Yes basic plans are useful but then freedom to explore with an open mind & enjoy in your own time is perfect.
      The trip next month will be interesting, looking forward to seeing where you end up.
      Make sure you have a big powerful torch, always a good idea. Don't ask me where that thought came from, it just appeared in my head! 🙃
      Have a good week.

    • @comealongdear
      @comealongdear  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The disused quarry was waterlogged to the point we couldn't get in. We actually got stuck in that bit and didn't film it, having to leap giant puddles to get out. Next time then for sure because that's another fun part to walk around. You're familiar with Hastings then?
      Ha funnily enough we did buy chips but decided to rest that footage this week 😂 Didn't want to over egg the chip chat 😜 But they weren't too bad (about a 7/10) and we got a large to share. I can't remember the price now 🤦‍♂️
