I have one of these and something I noticed is if you are in a hurry and your finger is slightly off-center or rotated a bit the ID will fail. I entered my fingers I would use most often 3-4 times each, centered a bit differently each time. I have much better luck opening quickly this way as even if my finger isn't centered perfectly one of them has a good chance to match.
Rather than having the safe store a fingerprint for each digit, it might be more practical to do several angles of whichever digit you are most likely to use. The one I have, I have several angles of each of my thumbs so that if I'm in a hurry and don't get it on there straight, it will still read it. Just something to consider.
Excellent comment! You can store 20 unique fingerprints. We recommend rotating the fingerprint slightly during registration. You can also program the same fingerprint several times.
I enrolled the same fingers multiple times, at different angles, on my Gunvault safe. It virtually eliminated the problem some people have where they swipe and it doesn't unlock the safe. Plus I enrolled 2 fingers on each hand so if one hand was injured or something I can open with the other. I have been considering a Vaultek safe lately so I may be upgrading soon. I definitely like the sensors and wifi ability of some recent safes and then i won't need my smartthing sensor in my current safe to monitor if it's been opened.
We have several vaultek safes in our home and LOVE them! Love that they are connected to wifi too so we get an alert every time it’s opened, or if it’s got a low battery, or if someone tries to tamper with it!
@@dgunearthed7859 Same thoughts here. It should be facing the other way for better access. I have a similar one that opens swinging down a bit instead of just sliding and the orientation is like you are saying and it is so much better.
I love my Ft Knox pistol safe. It has a simplex, push button lock so super easy rapid access with no worries about electricity or failure to read a fingerprint. Best of all…it’s made in the USA! 🇺🇸 💖
There are several TH-cam videos showing how to easily break into Vaultex safes. I have not seen similar videos for other brands, though there may be some.
Just bought one of these Vaulteks a few days ago...(not the exact model). They're awesome! This is a great review. I might have to get one of these, too.
Wow...I just bought the same exact one last week. I bought it on a whim; not knowing much about it. I'm surprised to see someone do a video on it. Thanks, Stav!
I have the Vaultek MX series safe and I think it's awesome. I've read others have issues with the finger print scanning but it works great for me. I recommend it to anyone looking for a safe to hold multiple handguns.
As a long time owner of the first gen one, I will warn everyone because it happened to me. I go to open my safe, thankfully not in an emergency, and I hear the click of the latch mechanism, but it doesn’t open. I tried the code same thing. I tried a few more times and sometimes it opened and sometimes it didn’t. I checked the battery which I sure was plenty charged and it was. I charged it all the way up and still continued with the same intermittent problems. I have many 18650 batteries laying around so I replaced it thinking that even though the voltage on the battery might show it’s full, it’s ability to pump out current might have diminished, which is a common thing with dying lithium’s. The 18650 was new to the safe but used and works perfect and solved the problem. So you can’t rely on what the app says, voltage is just one factor. Check your safe regularly. I will probably just be popping in a brand new battery every 2 years to be safe.
This is the exact reason why you DON'T want this safe. As seductive as this safe is with all its bells and whistles you don't want to rely on something electronic when seconds count. Get a Fort Knox safe with a Simplex lock, you'll be glad you did. As far as the key is concerned, watch most any video from the Lock Picking Lawyer. He shows that key locks are an invitation to be picked.
@@davidp419 I would still like the one you mention. Unfortunately, for the way I want it mounted it wasn’t an option. I know I’ll get a Fort Knox someday though.
When I sleep at home, my Glock 17 is in a level 4 retention holster (a shroud to push forward and a lever to push backward. The holster is mounted to the bed rail. Otherwise when I'm at home, my 17 is on my hip in a thumb break holster.
This case is rock solid (like other Pelican cases). th-cam.com/users/postUgkx3jMFPw9QX_Iu4DNcjW-t9AZ4_iNhJzhE I paired it with the Master Lock 140T set of padlocks. The US Airways ticket agent that checked the case was impressed by how completely the latches were secured. The case has layers of removable foam cubes that can be easily adapted to the contents of the case and keep everything secure. After declaring its contents to the ticket agent, I was allowed to put this case in other checked luggage. Due to its size and black color, this helped insure that it wasn't misplaced by a baggage handler. TSA was (apparently) happy with the packaging as well. If you plan on flying with more than one of the main items, I would recommend buying a larger Pelican case and just transport the case as another piece of checked luggage.
Using that Pelican case is a great idea but those Master locks are beyond garbage and can be picked in seconds not to mention how weak they are against attacks. Try an ABUS or an Abloy if you have the budget to truly keep your gun secure.

This looks nice. I’ve never had an electronic lock that didn’t eventually fail, including biometric. They normally last 5 years or less and are made in China then become key safes. Dust is the enemy of biometric while it works, so keep it clean. My bedside is now a simplex safe. It always works, no battery 🪫, power or key needed and it’s quick.

This is a very impressive safe but two things come to mind that I would want to resolve. One is that the safe is so small and light that I can see someone easily walking off with it. The other ting is that the App seems to at the very least tell someone who finds, steals or looks at your phone that you have a weapon safe at home. Not sure if that could be exploited by someone but seems like something I wouldn't want on a pilferable device.
Wouldnt it be ideal for this to open with the grip facing you when the door opens? This seems backwards. Considering the defense perspective. Great video though showing features.
Smart to change your code off Camera. However, you've shown the key biting (the cuts of the keys) and with that visual info someone can have a new key made up...

Unfortunately my kids were grown and long gone before I discovered these safes. Back then I had to keep the one gun not in the safe unloaded and the ammo separate. My wife could never handle a 1911 so mine has a small revolver.

@@oczhaal I agree however if the PIGS make a spot inspection which is something they would like to do if they know you have a gun, then there is a very stiff penalty and loss of your license. Anyone who says Australia is free is ignorant. I guess about the only way to get around it is live in the countryside, and have secret secure storage. Having said that home invasions are very rare in Oz.
@@rmarlin I understand, we have the same situation here. Nonetheless, it's always something to consider, whether you value your safety more than your money.
Very cool little safe.
I have a VAULTEK safe. Not this one. And it is awesome!
Thanks for the review!
Since you got the Vaultek slider safe how is it functioning currently. I have seen many reviews saying that the fingerprint scanner stopped working consistently and was un reliable
Can this safe for a light and optic in the gun?
Good information here, thanks. 🙂
I have a V-Line Brute simplex lock safe. Perhaps you could do a review on that type?
I also have a V-Line Brute. Electronics are nice, but they are also highly prone to failure. I prefer the simplex locking system. It's fast and super reliable.
If you have a laser red dot installed your pistol it likely will not fit in this safe unless it's a very small weapon. i.e. < 5-6 inches in length at a guess.
Think this will fit a Walther pdp with optic and light attached?
Nice! I love this but more interesting in the gun. What gun and caliber is it?
Thanks, Stav~
Looks nice, but I don't like how the gun comes out upside down. Would be awkward to grip initially.
She Equips Herself removed the holster insert and faced it the other way.
Why is the gun backwards when it comes out? Can it be oriented the opposite way?
My gun is about the size of that 1911 with a comp. (5” barrel + comp) You think there’s enough room to fit it?
