Yap, i have to agree. I've had a lot of customers (I'm a gunsmith) that couldn't reliably chamber a round especially with small pistols in .380 ACP, like the Walther Pk380 and alike. They really had to learn to immediately let the slide go after pulling it all the way. Especially with simple blowback guns the round wont chamber if you try to help it, as the feed ramp is usually made with a pretty aggressive angle that doesn't add much space for failure if you're going slower.
I’m a 72 year old woman who will soon be getting my first gun. I was doubting myself because my nephew in law asked me if I’d ever racked a gun. I said no I hadn’t but I didn’t think I’d have a problem. Then I started wondering if I could. I’m not weak though. @@DonnieReno It's been a month, so maybe you already got your gun. I'm a 65 YO male and I got a Shield EZ. I just got a Shield Plus and difference is amazing. The EZ is so easy, I highly recommend it. Easy to load the magazine also.
@@cassandracollins6890 If this method gets to be difficult you can buy some add on wings for $15 - 20 that will make a huge difference in racking the slide on a Shield, and they have them for Glocks as well. It does make it wider which might not work so well if you're doing an IWB carry, that's the trade off.

I’m a 70 yr old guy with a Shield 1.0 40cal and a Shield Plus 9mm and have always found it difficult to rack the slides and to load the magazines. All it took was a beautiful woman in a video to teach me the easy way. I bought an Uplula several years ago to ease the magazine loading process. Thanks!
I was freaking out on the range today trying to get my girlfriend to rack a round in her Glock 19. I kept trying to teach her variations that I learned in the military or police department, but none of them worked. It seems so simple, but the way you showed to use both hands to rack it really worked for her. Thank you!
As I’m getting older (80), I’ve noticed difficulty racking the slide, so turned to TH-cam. Found yours, among several videos. I thought it worthwhile to tell you (although they were all pretty good) yours was among the best &, indeed, better than most. Good job I did need tips & yours helped a lot. This age thing sneaks up on one. Not for sissies!
I agree with you 100% I turned 80 in septembar, I am visually impaired as well and I have rheumatoid arthritis affecting my hands, aside from surviving stage 4 cancer, received my last rites twice, once after a head-on collision 110 miles an hour, two people killed and I received my last rites but I, survived. The second time was after 18 1/2 hours of surgery, on my spine with a severe staph infection an additional five and a half hours of surgery a week and a half later, the staff was so severe that gave me my last rights as well, that followed by 7 1/2 years of rehab that was in 1992 a big help to me. And thanks so much for putting the clip together and explaining everything to make life a hell of a lot easier for me God bless you keep doing what you're doing❤

You are a natural instructor. You Tell the students what they are expected to demonstrate. Then show them step by step slowly. Then at a normal speed. I enjoy your videos and always learn something new.
Girl!!!!! I was just telling my son ( I am 68 and have arthritis), that I just cannot rack my baretta. I had been trying to do it with my thumb and fingers on the front part. I was actually thinking about selling it. I tried your way with the palm and fingers. . . I can sit here and do it all day long if I needed to. Thank you so much. (can't wait to listen to the part about loading the magazine. I always have to use the helper thing that came with it)
I thought she was nuts leaving that space between her fingers and the slide. Then I tried it. My finger tips don’t drag along the frame this way. It worked easier than what I’ve been doing. Strange how little things like this can make such a difference.
Her way also helps if you just got finished cleaning the gun and still got clp on your hands. If the slide slips before you get it where you want, your hand can get pinched by the action and barrel hood the way you were doing it. I still have the scar on the palm of my hand from 2003 when my M9 bit me.
Both my daughter & I have small hands as well. We actually both chose Kimber Micro 9 Stainless guns because we could actually rack the slides...sometimes. I learned from you on this video how to do it most efficiently. The last 2 times you racked the slide on the big silver gun, you angled your knuckles toward the hammer (not straight up). THAT is what works for us. We can get a little more palm and finger grip on the slide to make it work. Yaaaaay‼️ Thank you much for all of these instructional videos! ❤❤❤

Mentioning and demonstrating leaving some space between the underside of your fingers and the top of the slide was especially helpful. It prevents your palm from riding on and interfering with the operation of the slide. Well done!
As an old man who's been shooting most of my life, I knew this, and had taught it others, but had ignored it for myself. I'm tough. Or maybe I used to be. As I've gotten older, and my hands have gotten softer, I've found it's harder and harder to rack a slide (especially a Shield and a Star Ultra Star). I just watched your video, and did a forehead slap. YOU BIG DUMMY! You know this. Tried it and sure enough, no challenge at all. Thanks for your insight, and ability and willingness to explain it others.

As an instructor I like seeing “everyday” people teaching these techniques bc there is an entire audience out there which wants to learn these things, but will not go to classes for fear of “bravado gun jerks” who like to make them feel stupid. OMGosh, new gun owner here and a leftie...I was struggling most to release the slide lock if I wan't putting a full mag back in my gun on my p365. I couldn't pull the slide back more with my non dominant hand and hit the release, since the release was on opposite side as dominant thumb.. This totally made the difference and I can release with my index finger on left hand (you should do a leftie video, even though you aren't a leftie)
The p365 does take a little getting used to, and I purchased the UpLula mag loader to assist with initial loading. But it’s such a great edc! Little snappy but worth it !
I have a 365 as well, and a hellcat both were bought on the same day, the 365 is way stiffer than any handgun I own( I do have a couple others as well), when I have acrylic nails on it's super difficult for me, so ultimately I went with using the hellcat as my edc, even the magazines on the 365 are quite stiff.

Thank you for posting this information, I've just turned 80 in septembar and I had and have some major health issues rheumatoid arthritis, that affects my hands, and Visually Impaired as well pulling the slide was becoming a major issue for me I didn't not want to use one of those halos but your methods I've tried and they work much better for me now, thank you ❤❤
I'm a 67 yr old guy, and had trouble racking some more stubborn slides. and no one at the range would say anything when i was struggling . I just watched this video, and made all the difference But , loading the mags , still a no go. The thumb gives up fast. lol Thank goodness for Upulua
Roy I too was born in 1955 and have always racked the slide between my thumb and forefinger. Was getting more difficult each year. SHE's method is a big help. Now if she could help me see the front sight!
Thank you for the video. I'm a 72 year old man with somewhat limited hand strength who has found it difficult to rack the slide on my Shield. The problem was magnified by the fact that I tried to do it strictly by pulling the slide. I guess I'm slow because it never occurred to me to use the push/pull technique that you recommend. That makes it so much easier! As an aside, let me mention that I have used the UpLula magazine loader for a couple of years, and find it to be a great tool. Good video that I'm happy to have stumbled upon!

I cannot thank you enough for this video! I am a new shooter…69 with small, weak hands. Bought a Kimber Micro 9…which I like…then decided I wanted a striker fired pistol for home protection so bought a Hellcat FDE OSP on Black Friday sale. Haven’t tried it out yet but was unable to rack the slide with the mag in. Now I can, thanks to your great video. Subscribed. 😊

This was SO helpful. When my husband and I took our conceal carry class the teacher had me rack the gun from the front and it was so hard. Then on the drive home my husband told me he saw this video and had me watch it and it is so much easier for me to rack it like you do.
I am so glad that I found your channel. My husband is an avid hunter and a veteran, and so is my father. My husband and I want to get our Concealed Carry soon, and when thinking about the guns we’ve considered, most of them were ones I discounted because I didn’t think I’d have the hand strength to pull back the slide and load a magazine. We even considered that I might only be able to get a revolver. I watch a lot of your videos since finding you channel, because I’m new to this, and even your holster videos are such a huge help. While reading some of the comments I couldn't help but notice several members of the police and military have commented. Several offering their thanks to one another for their service. I'm a little late to the party here. I stumbled on the video quite by accident, but decided to watch it because as a 75-year-old I have difficulty racking the slide. Right off the bat I want to say, "THANK YOU" to Stav for her technique that works great for me. Hand strength seems to fade pretty quickly after 65 and Stav's method really helped me out. As for the police and military making comments. I want to thank each and every one of you for your service. Civilians like me owe a debt of gratitude to each and every one of you for putting on that uniform and taking a stance between me and the monsters. THANK YOU.

This is how I taught my three daughters on how to rack the slide. A little change that I teach is to lock the left elbow in and just push move forward the dominate right hand maintaining the left hand still. I even have to teach this method to male Marines on the pistol range because they're took weak to rack the slide on the Beretta 9mm. A great video and technic. A you're right, it does not good unless you constantly practice to include practicing loading magazines.

Thank you so much for this video. I am a very novice fire arm owner and have been struggling with my Sig Sauer P322 slide. I have weak hands and arthritis, your method solved my problem and I can now easily rack and release. The slide lock is still an issue for me, but I will keep trying.

Great video. I was always a revolver guy. We just picked up a Springfield XD and I was surprised how hard it was to rack the slide. My wife was in Belgian Army back in the day and trained on the Browning Hi Power. She picked it up right away :) Thanks

Great video and well done. I was a competitive pistol shooter in the 1980s and I have always racked just like you demonstrate. I took a required concealed carry class for my lic renewal and the instructor insisted I use the slingshot release in his class. I argued with him, unsuccessfully, then did it his way even though I'm twice his age and have fired thousands of rounds more than he ever will. Thanks for doing these videos!

That slice locking thing had been evading me as I didn't realize there was a little button there to look it. Such an easy fix. Thank you. I still struggle with loading the magazine once that spring gets tight, but I get another one in every so often. I assume I am using different muscles, however miniscule they might be, so as they get stronger, difficult tasks will be easier (I hope 🙄). I'm so grateful to be able to learn from a female.
I've never really gave much thought to HOW I grip the slide when racking it, but after you asking for comments on how the viewers grip their slides, I intentionally just grabbed the pistol and started to rack the slide, then stopped as soon as it started to move, to keep from doing something "intentional", I found that I do pretty much what Stav is doing here, except that I put my thumb on the slide as well as my palm...as much, or more thumb than palm. I totally agree with the little "tunnel" above the slide, instead of your hand flat on the top. All it takes is pinching your hand in the ejection port one time to see how important that tunnel is. You are totally amazing. I was teaching my daughter firearm safety. I never expected, she could not pull back the rack. The thought never occurred to me. Not even on a 22. My plan was to buy the EZ. You just saved me $500. Using both arms to apply pressure. Been an engineer for 25 years. Been working out for over 40 years and the though never occurred to me. Makes total sense and I'll have to try it with her. Got to go now. Had to log on with Chrome to comment and the powers to be are tracking me.... I'll have to check and see if you have a video to solve the problem of shooting low and to the left.

You are definitely knowledgeable. That is exactly how I chamber a round myself and that is also exactly how I teach it especially to weaker people. Same hold, same position, right hand push & left hand pull. Now I would say something to encourage you is that when you are racking the slide back to lock it open on a pistol like the Shield that’s hard to rack back and your doing so for the purposes of cleaning it where you might need to field strip the gun or something, if a person isn’t strong enough to pull the slide back far enough and long enough to lock the slide lock up then what you can do is put an EMPTY magazine into the gun and just rack the slide back just how you taught to do it when chambering a round and it will automatically hold open. And then from there you can just drop the magazine and then you can do your work. And last you don’t have to push the slide lock down to unlock the slide. With the magazine out of the gun just pull it back as if to chamber a round and it will unlock automatically…It’s more a slide lock on a Smith & Wesson M&P than a slide release. I really enjoyed your video though and thank you for it. You definitely know your business. Good Job!
I’m a dude with some stronger than average hand strength and my P365 magazines are a pain in the tuchus to get the last few rounds in. Maglula helps, I use it at the range. I don’t want to waste time loading when I’m paying for a lane to shoot.
Yes! I love my maglula. I don't really use it much anymore because I'm pretty quick just with my hands...but it's great if you're loading hundreds of rounds in a day
Thats one of the things Im going to be bringing up in my review of the Sig 365XL. Perfect gun for a woman because the recoil is SOOOO tame, but those mas are a bear.
Great to show this technique! It’s the way that we were taught from day one at the police academy. The pinch and pull technique is a fine motor skill that gets lost in a high stress situation. Four fingers over the top of the slide is the way to go. The maglula is a pretty awesome loader for us lazy folk too 😜

Took GF to the gun range for the first time yesterday at her request. She's a bit intimidated by it all so I loaded the magazines and racked the slide for her. She needs to learn to do that herself so I sent this as her very first instructional video. Love the non-macho, girl next door approach. It'll be easy for her to relate to you so I'm sure she'll watch many of them.

I just got my 1st handgun last week and having weak hands and wrist, I thought I would have to get the M&P EZ, but I have found that I can rack the slide of most any gun once I learned what works for me. (I'm also a female in my 50's) I do the motion to my right side, I have thumbs on opposite sides, push and pull while aiming down. As for loading my magazines, once it gets hard, I stand the bullet on its butt on top of the last round, so I can push down with a flat surface, then slide it back under the magazine groove and flip it down. Not sure if I do any of it "right", but I ave put 350+ rounds through my new gun in a week.
Just to add, idk if you've looked to see about a speed loader for your magazine. My Glock came with one it made loading it so much easier. Might be worth looking into. I could only get 3 loaded by hand before my fingers were hurting but with the speed loader I can get 9 in the magazine, springs too stiff for me to get the 10th one in by myself.
I've practiced loading on friend's mag and can't get past the third or forth, after that I'm riding the struggle bus. I was told I need to strengthen my fingers, any suggestions on how to do that besides just practicing loading? Thank you! L-O-V-E this chanel!
The spring in the magazine on my Kimber Solo is ridiculously tight. I use only fresh ammunition and Kimber- recommended brands & weights. Sometimes when I'm watching TV, I'll load and empty them repeatedly. Much more fun than folding laundry 👍
Excellent tip! I’m a 71 year old man with the the M&P Shield Plus. I initially found racking the slide pretty stiff but practice made it second nature. I use a technique like yours. Loading the mags gets tough as the mag fills up. Easy solution is a mag loader.
Agreed! But in the case of my Beretta, the ONLY solution is to use a mag loader. Those magazines (restricted to 10 rounds here in Australia) are impossible to load without one. Especially in winter!
My wife and I went to CCW class together. She and a few others had trouble racking the slide. The instructor said to grip the firearm as normal and grasp the slide with your other hand. Extend your arm out straight and then “shrug” your shoulders. Your shoulder muscles are much stronger than your arm muscles. It works like a champ for us.
Richard, Can you elaborate? Arm out straight? In front, to side, down in front?? How does "shrug" of shoulders cause one hand to move one direction and the other to move in the other direction, causing the pistol to move in two directions? (the slide to come toward rear of pistol & frame of weapon to "push" away from you?) You have lost me here on this. Please elaborate. I like the idea of using the 'larger' muscle groups to accomplish the 'work' of racking the slide, so I'm not trying to be a 'turd-bucket' by asking what you mean with "shrugging" the shoulders. Madd-Matt Mitchell shrug your non-dominant shoulder. Grip out straight, use the other shoulder that is gripping the slide. Sorry, I was not describing it better. If right handed, put your right out straight and place your left on top and shrug your left shoulder and you will see.
Great commentary, this is also how I teach to ladies. I discuss using the pectoral muscles to push against each other (push-pull) and that allows you to use big muscle groups instead of just the hands. When doing it, turn the body about 60 degrees to the side do the muzzle always stays pointed down range.
68 yr old Noob and picked up my first gun today,a Kimber r7 mako. I was told the mags aren't the easiest to load and boy that 10th one is next to impossible for my old hockey hands.Not the easiest to rack either but your tip helped. I've seen about a half dozen of videos where racking a slide is taught. Yours is the first to offer this highly important tidbit of knowledge. Keep up the good work!
Yap, i have to agree. I've had a lot of customers (I'm a gunsmith) that couldn't reliably chamber a round especially with small pistols in .380 ACP, like the Walther Pk380 and alike. They really had to learn to immediately let the slide go after pulling it all the way. Especially with simple blowback guns the round wont chamber if you try to help it, as the feed ramp is usually made with a pretty aggressive angle that doesn't add much space for failure if you're going slower.

I’m a 72 year old woman who will soon be getting my first gun. I was doubting myself because my nephew in law asked me if I’d ever racked a gun. I said no I hadn’t but I didn’t think I’d have a problem. Then I started wondering if I could. I’m not weak though. @@DonnieReno It's been a month, so maybe you already got your gun. I'm a 65 YO male and I got a Shield EZ. I just got a Shield Plus and difference is amazing. The EZ is so easy, I highly recommend it. Easy to load the magazine also.
@@cassandracollins6890 If this method gets to be difficult you can buy some add on wings for $15 - 20 that will make a huge difference in racking the slide on a Shield, and they have them for Glocks as well. It does make it wider which might not work so well if you're doing an IWB carry, that's the trade off.

All it took was a beautiful woman in a video to teach me the easy way. I bought an Uplula several years ago to ease the magazine loading process. Thanks!
I was freaking out on the range today trying to get my girlfriend to rack a round in her Glock 19. I kept trying to teach her variations that I learned in the military or police department, but none of them worked. It seems so simple, but the way you showed to use both hands to rack it really worked for her. Thank you!

As I’m getting older (80), I’ve noticed difficulty racking the slide, so turned to TH-cam. Found yours, among several videos. I thought it worthwhile to tell you (although they were all pretty good) yours was among the best &, indeed, better than most. Good job I did need tips & yours helped a lot. This age thing sneaks up on one. Not for sissies!
I agree with you 100% I turned 80 in septembar, I am visually impaired as well and I have rheumatoid arthritis affecting my hands, aside from surviving stage 4 cancer, received my last rites twice, once after a head-on collision 110 miles an hour, two people killed and I received my last rites but I, survived. The second time was after 18 1/2 hours of surgery, on my spine with a severe staph infection an additional five and a half hours of surgery a week and a half later, the staff was so severe that gave me my last rights as well, that followed by 7 1/2 years of rehab that was in 1992 a big help to me. And thanks so much for putting the clip together and explaining everything to make life a hell of a lot easier for me God bless you keep doing what you're doing❤

Girl!!!!! I was just telling my son ( I am 68 and have arthritis), that I just cannot rack my baretta. I had been trying to do it with my thumb and fingers on the front part. I was actually thinking about selling it. I tried your way with the palm and fingers. . . I can sit here and do it all day long if I needed to. Thank you so much. Best way for a lady to protect herself I highly encourage all ladies to learn how to shoot and carry. Plus it is a fun hobby to share with friends.
I thought she was nuts leaving that space between her fingers and the slide. Then I tried it. My finger tips don’t drag along the frame this way. It worked easier than what I’ve been doing. Strange how little things like this can make such a difference.

Her way also helps if you just got finished cleaning the gun and still got clp on your hands. If the slide slips before you get it where you want, your hand can get pinched by the action and barrel hood the way you were doing it. I still have the scar on the palm of my hand from 2003 when my M9 bit me.
Both my daughter & I have small hands as well. We actually both chose Kimber Micro 9 Stainless guns because we could actually rack the slides...sometimes.
I learned from you on this video how to do it most efficiently. The last 2 times you racked the slide on the big silver gun, you angled your knuckles toward the hammer (not straight up). THAT is what works for us. We can get a little more palm and finger grip on the slide to make it work. Yaaaaay‼️

Mentioning and demonstrating leaving some space between the underside of your fingers and the top of the slide was especially helpful. It prevents your palm from riding on and interfering with the operation of the slide. Well done!
As an old man who's been shooting most of my life, I knew this, and had taught it others, but had ignored it for myself. I'm tough. Or maybe I used to be. As I've gotten older, and my hands have gotten softer, I've found it's harder and harder to rack a slide (especially a Shield and a Star Ultra Star). I just watched your video, and did a forehead slap. YOU BIG DUMMY! You know this. Tried it and sure enough, no challenge at all. Thanks for your insight, and ability and willingness to explain it others.

OMGosh, new gun owner here and a leftie...I was struggling most to release the slide lock if I wan't putting a full mag back in my gun on my p365. I couldn't pull the slide back more with my non dominant hand and hit the release, since the release was on opposite side as dominant thumb.. This totally made the difference and I can release with my index finger on left hand (you should do a leftie video, even though you aren't a leftie)
I have the 365 and it is one of the toughest firearms to pull the slide back!!! ...And the bigger your hands the tougher it is!
The p365 does take a little getting used to, and I purchased the UpLula mag loader to assist with initial loading. But it’s such a great edc! Little snappy but worth it !
I have a 365 as well, and a hellcat both were bought on the same day, the 365 is way stiffer than any handgun I own( I do have a couple others as well), when I have acrylic nails on it's super difficult for me, so ultimately I went with using the hellcat as my edc, even the magazines on the 365 are quite stiff.
H&K P2000 is fully ambitious and easy to chamber.

Roy I too was born in 1955 and have always racked the slide between my thumb and forefinger. Was getting more difficult each year. SHE's method is a big help. Now if she could help me see the front sight!
Thank you for the video. I'm a 72 year old man with somewhat limited hand strength who has found it difficult to rack the slide on my Shield. The problem was magnified by the fact that I tried to do it strictly by pulling the slide. I guess I'm slow because it never occurred to me to use the push/pull technique that you recommend. That makes it so much easier! As an aside, let me mention that I have used the UpLula magazine loader for a couple of years, and find it to be a great tool. Good video that I'm happy to have stumbled upon!

Bought a Kimber Micro 9…which I like…then decided I wanted a striker fired pistol for home protection so bought a Hellcat FDE OSP on Black Friday sale. This was SO helpful. When my husband and I took our conceal carry class the teacher had me rack the gun from the front and it was so hard. Then on the drive home my husband told me he saw this video and had me watch it and it is so much easier for me to rack it like you do.

I am so glad that I found your channel. My husband is an avid hunter and a veteran, and so is my father. My husband and I want to get our Concealed Carry soon, and when thinking about the guns we’ve considered, most of them were ones I discounted because I didn’t think I’d have the hand strength to pull back the slide and load a magazine. We even considered that I might only be able to get a revolver. I watch a lot of your videos since finding you channel, because I’m new to this, and even your holster videos are such a huge help. I'm a little late to the party here. I stumbled on the video quite by accident, but decided to watch it because as a 75-year-old I have difficulty racking the slide.
Right off the bat I want to say, "THANK YOU" to Stav for her technique that works great for me. Hand strength seems to fade pretty quickly after 65 and Stav's method really helped me out.
As for the police and military making comments. I want to thank each and every one of you for your service. Civilians like me owe a debt of gratitude to each and every one of you for putting on that uniform and taking a stance between me and the monsters.

This is how I taught my three daughters on how to rack the slide. A little change that I teach is to lock the left elbow in and just push move forward the dominate right hand maintaining the left hand still. I even have to teach this method to male Marines on the pistol range because they're took weak to rack the slide on the Beretta 9mm. A great video and technic. A you're right, it does not good unless you constantly practice to include practicing loading magazines.

Great video. I was always a revolver guy. We just picked up a Springfield XD and I was surprised how hard it was to rack the slide. My wife was in Belgian Army back in the day and trained on the Browning Hi Power. She picked it up right away :) Thanks

Great video and well done. I was a competitive pistol shooter in the 1980s and I have always racked just like you demonstrate. I took a required concealed carry class for my lic renewal and the instructor insisted I use the slingshot release in his class. I argued with him, unsuccessfully, then did it his way even though I'm twice his age and have fired thousands of rounds more than he ever will. Thanks for doing these videos!

That slice locking thing had been evading me as I didn't realize there was a little button there to look it. Such an easy fix. Thank you. I still struggle with loading the magazine once that spring gets tight, but I get another one in every so often. I assume I am using different muscles, however miniscule they might be, so as they get stronger, difficult tasks will be easier (I hope 🙄). I'm so grateful to be able to learn from a female.
I've never really gave much thought to HOW I grip the slide when racking it, but after you asking for comments on how the viewers grip their slides, I intentionally just grabbed the pistol and started to rack the slide, then stopped as soon as it started to move, to keep from doing something "intentional", I found that I do pretty much what Stav is doing here, except that I put my thumb on the slide as well as my palm...as much, or more thumb than palm. I totally agree with the little "tunnel" above the slide, instead of your hand flat on the top. All it takes is pinching your hand in the ejection port one time to see how important that tunnel is. Greta video, Stav! No wonder it's your most popular video. It is very helpful information.

You are totally amazing. I was teaching my daughter firearm safety. I never expected, she could not pull back the rack. The thought never occurred to me. Not even on a 22. My plan was to buy the EZ. You just saved me $500. Using both arms to apply pressure. Been an engineer for 25 years. Been working out for over 40 years and the though never occurred to me. Makes total sense and I'll have to try it with her. Got to go now. Had to log on with Chrome to comment and the powers to be are tracking me.... I'll have to check and see if you have a video to solve the problem of shooting low and to the left.

You are definitely knowledgeable. That is exactly how I chamber a round myself and that is also exactly how I teach it especially to weaker people. Same hold, same position, right hand push & left hand pull.
Now I would say something to encourage you is that when you are racking the slide back to lock it open on a pistol like the Shield that’s hard to rack back and your doing so for the purposes of cleaning it where you might need to field strip the gun or something, if a person isn’t strong enough to pull the slide back far enough and long enough to lock the slide lock up then what you can do is put an EMPTY magazine into the gun and just rack the slide back just how you taught to do it when chambering a round and it will automatically hold open. And then from there you can just drop the magazine and then you can do your work.
And last you don’t have to push the slide lock down to unlock the slide. With the magazine out of the gun just pull it back as if to chamber a round and it will unlock automatically…It’s more a slide lock on a Smith & Wesson M&P than a slide release.

I’m a dude with some stronger than average hand strength and my P365 magazines are a pain in the tuchus to get the last few rounds in. Maglula helps, I use it at the range. I don’t want to waste time loading when I’m paying for a lane to shoot.
Yes! I love my maglula. I don't really use it much anymore because I'm pretty quick just with my hands...but it's great if you're loading hundreds of rounds in a day
P365 12 round magazines are easy right out of the box. A year later the 10s are still tough.
Thats one of the things Im going to be bringing up in my review of the Sig 365XL. Perfect gun for a woman because the recoil is SOOOO tame, but those mas are a bear.

Great to show this technique! It’s the way that we were taught from day one at the police academy. The pinch and pull technique is a fine motor skill that gets lost in a high stress situation. Four fingers over the top of the slide is the way to go. The maglula is a pretty awesome loader for us lazy folk too 😜

I always use an mag loader to load my mags. Some mags are too stiff and hard to fully load, no matter your size, sex, or strength. Great video!
Took GF to the gun range for the first time yesterday at her request. She's a bit intimidated by it all so I loaded the magazines and racked the slide for her. She needs to learn to do that herself so I sent this as her very first instructional video. Love the non-macho, girl next door approach. It'll be easy for her to relate to you so I'm sure she'll watch many of them.
I really love this video. I'm a little older so I don't have as much strength in my hands as I used to. The palm/fingers method is the absolute easiest for me. I just got my 1st handgun last week and having weak hands and wrist, I thought I would have to get the M&P EZ, but I have found that I can rack the slide of most any gun once I learned what works for me. (I'm also a female in my 50's)
I do the motion to my right side, I have thumbs on opposite sides, push and pull while aiming down.
As for loading my magazines, once it gets hard, I stand the bullet on its butt on top of the last round, so I can push down with a flat surface, then slide it back under the magazine groove and flip it down.
Not sure if I do any of it "right", but I ave put 350+ rounds through my new gun in a week.

Just to add, idk if you've looked to see about a speed loader for your magazine. My Glock came with one it made loading it so much easier. Might be worth looking into. I could only get 3 loaded by hand before my fingers were hurting but with the speed loader I can get 9 in the magazine, springs too stiff for me to get the 10th one in by myself.
I've practiced loading on friend's mag and can't get past the third or forth, after that I'm riding the struggle bus. I was told I need to strengthen my fingers, any suggestions on how to do that besides just practicing loading? Thank you! L-O-V-E this chanel!
The spring in the magazine on my Kimber Solo is ridiculously tight. I use only fresh ammunition and Kimber- recommended brands & weights. Sometimes when I'm watching TV, I'll load and empty them repeatedly. Much more fun than folding laundry 👍

Excellent tip! I’m a 71 year old man with the the M&P Shield Plus. I initially found racking the slide pretty stiff but practice made it second nature. I use a technique like yours. Loading the mags gets tough as the mag fills up. Easy solution is a mag loader.

Agreed! But in the case of my Beretta, the ONLY solution is to use a mag loader. Those magazines (restricted to 10 rounds here in Australia) are impossible to load without one. Especially in winter!
My wife and I went to CCW class together. She and a few others had trouble racking the slide. The instructor said to grip the firearm as normal and grasp the slide with your other hand. Extend your arm out straight and then “shrug” your shoulders. Your shoulder muscles are much stronger than your arm muscles. It works like a champ for us.
Richard, Can you elaborate? Arm out straight? In front, to side, down in front?? How does "shrug" of shoulders cause one hand to move one direction and the other to move in the other direction, causing the pistol to move in two directions? (the slide to come toward rear of pistol & frame of weapon to "push" away from you?) You have lost me here on this. Please elaborate. I like the idea of using the 'larger' muscle groups to accomplish the 'work' of racking the slide, so I'm not trying to be a 'turd-bucket' by asking what you mean with "shrugging" the shoulders. Madd-Matt Mitchell shrug your non-dominant shoulder. Grip out straight, use the other shoulder that is gripping the slide. Sorry, I was not describing it better. If right handed, put your right out straight and place your left on top and shrug your left shoulder and you will see.
Great commentary, this is also how I teach to ladies. I discuss using the pectoral muscles to push against each other (push-pull) and that allows you to use big muscle groups instead of just the hands. When doing it, turn the body about 60 degrees to the side do the muzzle always stays pointed down range.
68 yr old Noob and picked up my first gun today,a Kimber r7 mako. I was told the mags aren't the easiest to load and boy that 10th one is next to impossible for my old hockey hands.Not the easiest to rack either but your tip helped.
