    She is a marvelous singer (and beautiful too) and the orchestra is great.
    The public, I'm afraid, is dead...would she had sang this in my country, we would had jumped from our seats and made a thunderous standing ovation until the theater goes down in pieces...

    I literally peed my pants!!!!!!!
    The orchestra and the singer are in such tune of mood..incredible.

    This is a performance where all the important elements miraculously align... unforgettable. I haven't seen Idomeneo on stage, but this concert performance of an excerpt is far more moving than anything one can expect in a staged version.

  • @Homoclassicus
    @Homoclassicus 15 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Wow, the video captures her voice in a more ample, resounding way that makes her wide vibrato sound more organic with the rest of the voice (sometimes the recordings emphasize it too much), and her dark, dramatic and very peculiar timbre sounds more beautiful than ever. She's a great soprano and must have very strong vocal chords, because she's singing heavy roles since her early 20's and still sings amazingly.

    Brava, Pendatchanska !!! The most true rendering of this aria I ever heard. After La Callas the most interesting singer, by singing Roberto Devereux she should have been world famous.

    • @operaanimelover369
      @operaanimelover369 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ClassicalSoundIdeal The thing about Marlis Petersen is that she led an interesting career. Starting off as a lyric coloratura soprano then heading to slightly more dramatic coloratura soprano roles and nowadays doing these spinto soprano roles, even though her voice does not necessarily have the size of Renata Tebaldi or Maria Callas. Perhaps, the one facet about Marlis Petersen that is still worth rooting for is her unparalleled abilities as an actress who does convey the music and the text to the best of everything she bears.

    • @ClassicalSoundIdeal
      @ClassicalSoundIdeal 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@operaanimelover369 my point exactly. And, that voice categorization was not important, not to say unknown in Mozart's time, let alone volume which is tied to orchestra and hall size.

    2:49-51 ridiculous
    Her technique of bulging out her voice keeps her from doing legato (cf. her Roberto Devereux) / staccato (2:49-51). She will either destroy her voice or have her voice super duper darkened. Don't just tell me off / give thumbs down coz you're her fan. If you wanna challenge me, give evidence.

    Great talent but she makes no justice as to Mozart's style. Why did she change the line at 2:49 ? That's not what Mozart wrote. I believe she is shouting what should be a more sublte cry of desperation with a more elegant tone. I like it though.

      such a disaster that at age 46 she already has almost 30 years of top flight dates and performances behind her and a full roster of others coming up. I know it looks odd..but it works for her...she still has pianissimi and range and facility...maybe wise to be less speedy to judge. What did she ever do to you

      @bosiewilder4945 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      She sings since more than 27 years. If her technique was so bad as you say, she should have already lost her voice.
      I think she's a force of nature. Amazing!

    • @GeorgiNM
      @GeorgiNM 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Pendatchanska has sung, with a very high level of accomplishment, some of the most difficult roles written (Queen of the Night, Esclarmonde, Semiramide, the Devereux Elisabetta). She sings in Paris' best venues pretty much on a yearly basis. A "Major Opera House" can't gamble on someone so idiosyncratic, I guess. But anyway, I suggest you simply open your ears instead of going on bashing, and with some quite debatable arguments at that (her diction, for one thing, being absolutely perfect.) That the voice sounds strained, it does indeed. But as people have already told you, this has been pretty much the way she has sounded since she was 19 years old, and she's been going steady right up till today, and she's 46 now.

    • @adaj472
      @adaj472 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bosie Wilder I disagree with you. She sounds comfortable, which is really the goal; comfort and clarity. I think the “tension” you’re talking about is a character choice, not something she’s using to support her voice. Keep in mind this song is a decent into madness. It’s Mozart, but it’s still meant to be jarring and unsettling. Maybe it’s not for you, but I don’t think it’s fair to attack her technique.
