There is so much nonsense in the comments about this stunning performance. Alexandrina Pendatchanska was a great singer, she decided later to appear under the name Alex Penda and she did really great things, some have been mentioned, but also a breathtaking recording of Rossini's Semiramide 2012 in my festival (ROSSINI IN WILDBAD), which has been rewarded several times (NAXOS, with John Osborn, Lorenzo Regazzo, Marianna Pizzolato and Antonino Fogliani conducting, an outstanding and totally complete recording. She slowly changed her repertory and still you can hear her singing interessting roles in Vienna (Theater an der Wien, Paris and elsewhere). If you count from 17 years, this is a long, long career for a soprano. Thank you Alex!
Superbisimă voce, talent, devotațiune,stăpâna a vocii în toate registrele,o DIVĂ a scenei lirice internaționale!!! Bravo și imense felicitări ALEXANDRINA PENDATCHANSKA!🌹♥️🌹
Well if this was performed when Ms Pendatchanska was 17 years old then it was in 1988 and a year later in 1989 I had the great pleasure of hearing her live in my home city of Pretoria, South Africa where she won the UNISA international singing competition with an INCREDIBLE series of performances. I heard all of her recitals for the competition, including this aria and she was truly incredible. I wondered from time to time what had become of that fabulous instrument and MUCH to my pleasure I found out today quite by chance!!! She is now a woman of 43 with a very respectable career behind her and you can hear her sing a number of things here on YT, including a wonderful Les vêspres Siciliennes and Hamlet. Bravissima Ms Pendatchanska, for having made good with your God-given gift!
Wow! Incredible! For her age when she sang this, it is nothing short of miraculous! She brought something very unique to the coloratura section of the aria. But, you know my favorite part? That high piannissimo Ab in the first section. Breathtakingly beautiful! She is amazing! Some people have to practice for years to develop singing technique, and other people are naturals. One can only listen in awe!
I'll never forget her mad scene from Lucia di Lammermoor in the Dutch TV-show 'Jonge mensen op het concertpodium', when she was twenty years old. Stunning!
Very ripe voice for 17 years! Very good, that she can this sing at this young age, indeed the heroine of tragedy young girl! Marie Duplessis - prototype of Violetta - lived only 23 years! It is great!!!
Along with the manic energy of D'Orestes, D'Ajace, this may be to me the most endearing performance of Alexandrina Pendatchanska. There is a definite exquisite charm in watching a young singer showing off to the world that she is capable of tackling a most difficult aria, as if in a test of new mastery that concludes her apprenticeship, leaving it behind for good and opening the door to the important new phase of her adult career. There is perhaps, in this delight at her mix of power and fragility, the same attraction of what Da Ponte called the charm of "la giovin principiante."
Phenomenal performance !!!! 👌🏻Woaw ))))) Bravo ))))👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Bravo ))))) 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ It is breathtaking !!! Huge voice scale with awesome color . One of the best 👌🏻
Ms. Pendatchanska was born in 1970 and is having a very successful career. She was wonderful as Elisabetta in the Nov. 6 CBC broadcast of Maria Stuarda from Canadian Opera Company.
Alexandrina's awkwardness at the end of the performance - not at ease thanking the conductor, the musicians, acknowledging the audience's applause, hurriedly leaving the stage - is very tangible. But we cannot forget that she is there a young woman of 17 making her first big public appearance, and sings a tremendously advanced aria, and she does it with great brio. In this context, her lack of social graces, considering her age, is in fact charming. It conveys the sense of her inexperience, in a way that's delightful. Why should she pass for an experienced old-timer, a seasoned pro? This would look artificial and contrived. In her style, she retains spontaneity and a certain innocence that contrasts nicely with her technical excellence. Same thing for the nice fine points that the hyper-critics can't help noticing the absence of the features that characterize perfect voice production and superlative expression of Violetta's feelings. Notice, she doesn't sound yet like Callas, amazing isn't it? That is the half-empty (or one quarter-empty) glass view. The opposite view is that she is simply stupendous, sensational, and what we've got here is a superb international star in the making. That is the three-quarter-full glass view.
Better bel canto training than what I've heard coming out of Italy. Wow! No false tongue coloring/darkening. Open throated, dead tongue, on the appogio-support, good mask and line. BRAVA! Maybe there is hope for opera if a FEW good teachers remain. She need a little more breath compression, a few notes I hear "air" faintly that should be tranformed into vibration. But, a true clarion, lyric soprano. Beautiful. WONDEROUS interpretation as well! BRAVA!!!
Public is looking for those who could became stars of Opera in future, and often we expect too much from youngs that never will have a solid career. But this is not the case. This girl is amazing in several things : geat instrument, good technique and a very beautiful future.
Qué rápido le entendió a su voz!!!! ha de ser una chica muy inteligente, no todos entienden finalmente cómo cantar así, aunque estudien por años y años....
The coloraturas of "dee volare il mio pensier " are unequalled. It is sung staccato, out of tune, squelchy and everything else by everybody else. She sings it fully supported without shortening the off beat notes but separating from the on beat notes and taking a lightning sip of air to finish the phrase - brilliant technique.
Wow, at just 17 she sounded phenomenal! I like this Alexandrina better than the latter older her, where her voice became edgy and had a lot of those nervous vibrato.
She has a very good technique for her age, vocally there's nothing to comment on except that it's great and she has a very beautiful dark-coloured voice, but the interpretation is too wise, she doesn't seem like understanding Violetta's passion which can be understandable at her age, but that's actually the snag: you have to have a certain maturity to be able to portray the character. Here, everytime she stops singing she looks like she's nothing to do but wait until she sings her next phrase.
@Sotzume Um....she is an established, international opera singer now. This video was a while ago. I saw her at NYCO doing the title role in Rossini's "Ermione" about 8 years ago, and she was excellent. Try googling her.
@Namami88 Have you ever heard Marilyn Horne!? :D She was discovered at just 18 to have this exact same kind of rare talent!!!! but, you're right !;D it's definitely not common to have a such an incredibly developed voice, especially this young
There's plenty videos of her when she is older too, so obviously she does have a career, and she sure still sounds amazing. She was lucky to grasp good technique so early on.
@Msvocalista1 She can! I am a singer and for example if i'm going to sing something big (in this case she took sempre libera) i would be scared from the big tones if i;m going to pitch them. I meant in that way, and it's not an everyday thing for a 17 year old singer to sing Violeta-Sempre Libera.
totally agree....she does a good job of it but for a future in opera she needs years of practice with smaller roles. Verdi will come if she has what it takes. Coaching her voice sensibly is the key, not quick bucks
I'm actually a big fan of Alexandrina, her voice is extremely rare and she has shown very virtuosic qualities in several of her recordings and live performances I just thing she's over-taxed her voice by singing HUGE roles so early in her career without establishing a proper technique. I mean who has a rock solid singing technique at 17?.
We’ll, you were WRONG. She still sings with no signs of slowing down even if she’s done Elisabetta in Don Carlo, Chrysothemis, Eboli, Carmen and Salome...
"Breath support" doesn't make you a real artist. Technique as important as it is is only a tool. She has been singing for over 25 years the most demanding roles from Haendel to Strauss and is still a great singer today with no sings of stopping. So her breath support can't be as you said not there. There are a lot of singers with perfect breath support that lack a brain and heart. They are not real artists.
She was 17 then so obviously she was still learning... But based on this performance, I'm scared for what will happen to her voice if she sis like this every time... But beautiful voice though... :-)
It was bound to happen though. It has nothing to do with decline or technique - she just got older. An awful lot of singers who started very young (Varnay, Resnik) started as a soprano, and by the time they hit their thirties they made the move to mezzo. It was nature.
What do you mean by unnatural? You claim her voice has gone down a wrong path but have no way of knowing what her voice would have to sound like had it gone the "right" path. It is what it is, basically.
A MI ME ES MAS FACIL SEGUIRLE LA VOZ A LAS DE OPERA Y ME SUELE SALIR, SOLO QUE TENGO QUE CORREGIR ALGUNAS COSAS Y ESO QUE NUNCA FUI EN MI VIDA A UN CONSERVATORIO

This is unbelievable but a real prodigy voice. Amazing and remarkable 17 year old opera girl..... A rare voice and beauty. PERFECTION..
This is crazy exciting singing from such a young artist. She matured in an amazing singing actress!
Great Violetta for only 17 years old. Bravo Alexandrina

She's fantastic! 17 years old, and such a tremendous chest voice! Beautiful timbre! And so honest!
Amazing.....simply amazing to see this, then see her in Roberto Devereux much later.....A true rarity.
I'll never forget her mad scene from Lucia di Lammermoor in the Dutch TV-show 'Jonge mensen op het concertpodium', when she was twenty years old. Stunning!
This is absolutely unbelievable.
Very ripe voice for 17 years! Very good, that she can this sing at this young age, indeed the heroine of tragedy young girl! Marie Duplessis - prototype of Violetta - lived only 23 years! It is great!!!
Великолепно...на тая възраст...възхитена съм!
Extraordinar.
Bravoo Alexandrina.
Succes.
Super!
A remarkable artist at every age! Bravo!!

Her "A vos jeux mes amis" is pretty epic as well.
Beautiful younge lady, introduced by a beautiful icon, just sang beautifully~!. Pendatchanska forever~!
o mammma mia! che meraviglia!
Bravisimaaaaaa!!

Technique is everything in singing. It's the entire basis of it.
I just love her!! She is very good, I'm a singer too I know that this area is not easy, Bravo!!!
Fantastic!!!!
Какъв талант, какъв талант! Невероятно!!!!!!
Amazing voice.

17?? how can her voice be so well developed already?
wow
Wonderful
HOW IS THIS EVEN POSSIBLE?! She is only 17! I
Very remarkable for someone so young!
Perfektna e
She reminds me of young June Anderson, who started singing roles like this at about the same age~!
The best opera singer 💕
brava!
THIS is the real Malibran-reincarnation! Apart of singing - look at the Malibran's portrait, she seems to be her twin sister.

This NOT bel canto...
@@awokwok1029it's still bel canto technique
Bravissima!!!!

Bravo A.P!
linda alexandrina, bella voz
I didn't see it was her first appearance, so she was probably very stressed and focused! Understandable! In front of 4000 people!
Прекрасна и уникална ❤️❤️❤️
The coloraturas of "dee volare il mio pensier " are unequalled. It is sung staccato, out of tune, squelchy and everything else by everybody else. Wonderful for a teenager.
Brava...
Nonsence of today, that voices have to be mature! She knows what she is doing!!!!
Толкова перфектен глас не съм чувал...
Exellent :-)
Wooooooooooow
my word.
Wow, at just 17 she sounded phenomenal! I like this Alexandrina better than the latter older her, where her voice became edgy and had a lot of those nervous vibrato.

Not many her age could have accomplished this feat. Brava.
she's my new idol! :D
Gran voz
@rihannalover93 i agree with that!!Their basses are also outstanding. This girl here will developpe more in years to come
And such a good Alfredo too.. ;)
@Sotzume Um....she is an established, international opera singer now. This video was a while ago. I saw her at NYCO doing the title role in Rossini's "Ermione" about 8 years ago, and she was excellent. Try googling her.
@8Goldie In a recent interview she said she was very worried about any mishap with the strapless dress lol
Astonishing. Whatever happened to her? Never heard of her!
Yes honey!
READ OPERA NEWS AND YOU WILL KNOW WHERE IS SHE NOW.
Maria Alexandra Paez-Pumar 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
@leonardovittori1 She's still singing now at the age of 41, so it would be interesting to see if you think she's a 'complete' singer now.
@Namami88
Have you ever heard Marilyn Horne!? :D
She was discovered at just 18 to have this exact same kind of rare talent!!!!
but, you're right !;D it's definitely not common to have a such an incredibly developed voice, especially this young

There's plenty videos of her when she is older too, so obviously she does have a career, and she sure still sounds amazing. She was lucky to grasp good technique so early on.
I'm sure you looked around and did you your research! She's still going strong and is an unbelievable artist!

I could sing opera from age 8 without training and now I am 17 and I can sing similar to this lady, but no one has really noticed.
Post a YT video of yourself and maybe they will.
you should hear ny cousin im using her account she is amazing im not kidding AMAZING so good and shes only 17
But you're wrong that she's finished. This video is 25 years old. She's singing Eboli in February
@Msvocalista1 i think that she is scared if everything will turn out ok.
This is really amazing !! Only thing I'm sad of is that she doesn't look really happy to be on this stage :/ but her singing is exceptionnal
totally agree....she does a good job of it but for a future in opera she needs years of practice with smaller roles. Verdi will come if she has what it takes. Coaching her voice sensibly is the key, not quick bucks
No doubt a wonderful. Then again anyone with a good talent can sing an aria, but can they sustain the role, that is more important! Brava anyway.
I'm actually a big fan of Alexandrina, her voice is extremely rare and she has shown very virtuosic qualities in several of her recordings and live performances

Will she now? You're only 26 years too late with your predictions.
@brodsky96 okay who lied to you ? lol
SI CREO QUE TIENE QUE TRABAJAR MAS EN LA PARTE EXPRESIVA PERO TIENE UNA VOZ INCREIBLE, Y LE IBA SALIR MAS HERMOSO SI TRANSMITIA LO QUE ESTABA CANTANDO

Chant primaire et vibrato déjà accentué. Sait-elle ce qu'elle chante?
e toi ?...
Je suis désolé, ce commentaire ne s'adressait pas à cette chanteuse. fausse manoeuvre.
Кой е диригентът - Константин Илиев?
It's not everything. Go to Netrebko videos and talk about technique there.
It was bound to happen though. It has nothing to do with decline or technique - she just got older. An awful lot of singers who started very young (Varnay, Resnik) started as a soprano, and by the time they hit their thirties they made the move to mezzo. It was nature.
is she just 17 ???
I can't belive she is 17 years old. I have never heard a voice with that body at that age. She also looks like she is between 25-28 years old.
Are you going to go around every one of her videos to talk about the one night you heard her? Get a life, lady.
Regardless of the talent, I don't think any 17 year old should be singing Verdi...
I have two words for you: Rosa Ponselle.
Jason Hurd another two words: Maria Callas!
A series of three amazingly useful and argumented comments, none of them to do with the content at hand (namely an amazing singer's amazing career beginnings, a career going strong 30+ years)
She looks nervous - but gosh, she had no reason to be.
