I LOVE the way Ben demos and explains things! His video recording rap vocals was the reason I bought my Apollo Twin. These demo videos are INFINITELY helpful!
Super video. I remember unboxing and installing the unit back in the mid 1980s at International Sound in Miami. The 224x shared the same LARK ( Remote control).
EXCELLENT explanation of what which does - for those of us born before the olden days ! It's like a sci-fi- video game from the 80ies to me...looks wise. Very cool.
Hey kids, pro tip: If you're gonna play with reverb settings you should do it while monitoring the rest of the mix. Nothing like wasting time setting up the perfect guitar sound only to find out that it doesn't sit well in the mix.
Oh my god, wow, you're a genius! Wow, you mean un-solo the track sometimes to see how it sound with all them other instruments! I like so totally never thought of that! Thank goodness for your "pro" tip, you just saved my life!
Just a guess but my spidey sense tells me he's isolating the reverb return to actually showcase the character nuances of THE REVERB, lol. Tutorial 101 from the pros.... like this guy : )
@@HustonSingletary Of course that's what he's doing. What I am doing is warning newbies that this is decidedly NOT how to setup your effects for a mix.
Softtube has a controller that is compatible with a bunch of UA plugins. I know it doesn’t answer your question from two years ago, but still pretty cool nevertheless
Hi Ben, just curious if the demo presets are available. Just bought the plugin and two of the demo presets you use on the product page are, Universal Audio - Synth Bass - Lexicon 480L - Wet and Universal Audio - Low Guitar - Lexicon 480L - Wet. If these are in the artist presets can you point me to the folder please? Thankyou.
Hey Doug, I'm Johnny, the singer of the song featured here. We actually achieved this by tweaking the existing natural backgrounds with melodyne and even making some more with it. Took a while but was fun and loved the result.
Hi Ben. Question: Have the algorithms from the expansion carts been ported to the UAD 480L? I can't seem to find that info anyplace. Thanks :) That dry vocal lead clip is recorded beautifully, by the way! . Folks, the 224 & the 480L are on sale for $139 each til August 31st, 2021 - If you have compatible UA hardware, I feel that these two plugs are a no-brainer. At the least, snag the 480L. The base hardware units still sell for $4k USD and up, and this plug runs the same DSP code as far as I know... At this price you can have a 480L for less than the price of a used LXP-5, and that's no joke! Cheers 🥂
When using as an aux/send, do you leave the "wet solo" on or off? I was thinking have the wet% at 100, then wet solo to be off, but I'm not quite sure how to optimize this with the UAD 480L.
hi ben thank you for this video im new to uad stuff i have just brought a twin and a couple of sats for extra dsp, i have been using daws for 20odd years and pretty quick on a daw but now watching these vids i feel like a beginner again because i now realise i wasn't that familiar with outboard gear loool and because its all based on out board it has a different way of working to standard plugs even though the concepts are basically the same i was confused loool i looked at this thing before i watched this and though what the hell how does this thing work looool but now i have watched your video i actually know what to do with so thank you, very helpful and insightful, im now going to binge watch all of your vids and have subscribed thanks haha , just a quick question what daw is that are you using please? it doesn't look like luna which i have just installed ;)

What a bunch of whiners...OMG...thanks for the great tips, Ben, don’t listen to these weenies! This is a very deep and complex unit, and thanks for explaining it so concisely and well.
On one hand you only really need to use this plug once on a send or buss but still it uses a lot of DSP. Need to manage plugins with this and bounce some things if possible. Still well worth it to me.
This is the content that makes me spend $$ with UAD.
Glad to hear you're finding it valuable William!

As a fairly recent convert to UA gear / plugins I really love these short tips - many thanks and please keep them coming!! 👍

10:29 that face you make when you know you're talking about the best sounding reverb/effects plugin ever
That's just Ben's face David! :)
One of the more genuinely awkward yet sincere and endearing expressions I’ve ever seen.
Great Job on the Video Universal Audio, Please bring more videos explaining other Plugins.
Thanks Vinicius - we're on it!
Great demo! Thank you!!
Hi Ben..Excellent tutorial......I have the 224 already...but this 480 sounds and works like I'd want it too.
Hey Jack, the 480 is a whole other beast! But really the 224 and 480 can work great together in any mix. Glad you liked the tutorial.

Great job UA, sounds like the original machine
👍
Do you have experience with the original as well as the plugin? How do you feel now after 3 years, the same?
Great video
Whatsup Ben! Love this guy
You guys should really consider making a controller for this that looks like the original LARC.
Sorta like what TC Electronic did

of course this is VERY personal, but we'd go plate over hall most times.

Was this put on the track or as a send?
More likely a send.. he had multiple tracks.
Yes, he used a send, he mentions this at 11:14
did you mean all this sample are using send effect with amount around 100% or the 480 was insert on vocal, etc ? so insert or send?
All the examples were the 480 on a Send. In most situations, you want time based effects like this on a Send/Rtn.
Is it just me or does this verb have a grittiness to it, overall? Does the hardware also sound like this?
It sounds much better.
@@RoyChartier so the plugin sounds nothing or very little like the hardware?

Ben just has so much information to share with everyone!! He can't help it! At least he changed the opening graphic!
He could just compress the time by 75%...problem solved! The. Then it would sound like one of those legal disclaimers at the end of a car commercial.

To be fair, we did change the opening graphic to say 13 min!! :)
This plugin is way too processor intensive. It utilizes nearly 60% of dsp on my apollo x6
but how you make feel of space with mono verb?
On one hand you only really need to use this plug once on a send or buss but still it uses a lot of DSP. Need to manage plugins with this and bounce some things if possible. Still well worth it to me.
i'm using it now and it doesn't I only see a 8% usage
@@rt-uh6mt exactly, just bounce the reverb audio to a stereo track and mix to taste
If you can afford Apollo x6, then you can surely afford OCTO
Plugin is cool but is a bitch to learn. Also it's time consuming to get the "right" reverb sound.
