This is a great reverb. Had it next to a 224XL and a 224. Sounds just like the 224XL hardware but without the noise and digital glare from those ancient 80s converters. The 224 actually sounded a little darker then both. While I like hardware when working with a desk, for itb or hybrid mixing this is a no brainer. Great Reverb right there with the hardware. Demo it for yourself. And don't listen to the comments about the hardware being better. hardware owners keep trying to propagate the myth that 1 and 0s sound different rendered in one box vs another. Digital is Digital the same algorithms is the same algorithm. Unless you love the sound of old converters or use a console where a hardware box makes sense the UAD 224XL is a amazing
+John Frusciante While I don't agree with you that digital is digital, I do agree with the fact that this particular plug in is - as are all UAD plug ins - the best in its category. These hardware boxes have a little more than just a DAC and some DSP to process the signal. They are full of electronics crap to shape the sound whereas your computer just has the CPU and you use your proper converters. I started out using Digidesign 882 20 IOs and was extremely unhappy. They were really really terrible. I then moved on to Prismsound ADA8 and that was a HUGE difference. Everything sounded 10 times better so no, digital was no longer the same digital :-) I am surprised by UAD plug ins. In my opinion there is no better. They really stand apart.
Lawrence O yet you contradicted yourself, UAD doesn’t run off your CPU, they’re based off the Apollo’s own DSP so therefore UAD knows what they’re doing so digital IS digital and if it’s from UAD it’s the SAME as the hardware since they’re the ones testing and making sure it passes the stages. It’s 2018, digital is and always will be digital, 1 and 0 are always going to be that, you can’t change math, it’s the one universal law that’s always existed since the dawn of time, as long as those numbers are there, it is what it is.
You cant make authentic late 80s and early 90s music w/o this reverb's magic. The same way we have learned in the digital age of the magic warmth and coloring saturation of analog gear with transformers, the pleasant musical shaping of tape, and the mixing and arrangement techniques of yesteryears' greats....so must we not overlook the king of reverbs: the Lex 224. If you cant replicate something similar sounding with your reverb, your reverb has failed and is obsolete in the digital age(vs this retro "digital" reverb masterpiece). If you truly wonder whats missing from some mixes, its reverb treatments like this that you find in so many of yesterday's greatest works(including film scores etc). Its only surpassed by what can replicate its "magic" and do even more realistic sounding stuff vs the magical sounding stuff you find in the 224. That long tail is something youll never hear in real life...only in masterpiece mixes, fantasy worlds, and visions of being in Heaven. Its artificial for mortal ears but it reminds you that there is something greater...its the one of many nuances that made us look up to artists and consider them "stars" for sounding unreal in our speakers(literally like nothing we ever heard in real life...digital reverb).
that plug in sounds great. I got an original 224 and a 480L and both are much more useful than all those japanese reverbs, if vintage sound is attempted. I even prefer the 224 sometimes over the 480L. I remember times where the Nuverb (Lex 300) was the only affordable way to get rich reverbs for composers... best with DA-30 converters ;-)
I bought this today, i like the other verbs on the uad but this will get used more due to the easy workflow, you can get a perfect setting in seconds. Imo, Very recommendable even for the price;-)
thanks for the wonderful video. After almost 40 years the Lexicon 224 still sounds, to my ears, the best, cleaner and more natural reverb in the Hi End segment, and still it only has 12bit resolution, how's that possible?
The real 224 has a control surface with physical sliders and buttons. Too bad UA does not allow MIDI control so their users can also use a physical control surface. UA seems to be in love with the idea of having to use a mouse to perform every and any parameter manipulation.
Can I get a sampler pack for Cooongars or a VST or something just to really bring out the features on my 224? Joking aside, this is a very good emulation of my go-to reverb in my early days in studios.
Wow, the negaivity in here abounds! Why the sour grapes folks? This plugin sounds darn good, as close to an original as it gets. I have spent hundreds of hours messing with the 224 just writing presets back in the day, these are certainly a bargain by comparison, and sound very good in a mix. My only complaint is, I'd love to have a rack full of UAD accelerator cards, not just the two :-)
Or UA could finally go native so more people would get more plugins with our excellent modern processors. But, you know, they want us to use that giant dongle. Lol
Hey Universal Audio, how about you hire me to produce these demos. The CL-1B demo is one of the best compressors of all time and that demo I watched last video butchered it.
Actually, no. If you read the manual for NS10's, it specifically states that the listener will experience a phase-shift effect if they are 'laid down'. Most people don't read the manual, though, and set them sideways b/c of the branding/writing. It's a common mistake.
LOL! Cool idea but not really. I use a PCM-91 and PCM81 anyway. I do have an MRC lying around from the old days, I should try to use that. Just thought a faux LARC would be cool
I was dumb enough to sell my 300L which looked brand new. Not a scratch on it. Thought I wanted another one but I listened to the Lexicon plug ins and they are absolutely fabulous. Sticking with that :-)
find me some vintage lexicon reverbs for less than $3000 and hire a team of qualified technicians to write the software with the money left over. let me know how far you get if you don't even have $349.
Your products are wonderful but you really need to address the ridiculous iLok issue which forces customers to use either an (overpriced) iLok USB or the 'cloud'. It appears that some of your products can be licensed to a computer, but not all. This seems rather arbitrary and is pretty frustrating imho. Even your Customer Service have no idea why this is, which is pretty poor.
You're obviously an accomplished engineer. However this plugin sounds like any other tweeted or no. I have A/B compared this plugin to a few others and honestly the difference is only found in the edit pages. Audio difference is relative and in the mix is negligent. I have the hardware where the difference is better heard. I appreciate the time you've taken to do this and the plugin needs a tutorial, but ears be true, so much of it is great in isolation. In a mix it's like everymans own religion.
Dragon Lee Sorry but no. This plugin does not sound like other reverbs. Perhaps it does if you are using it extremely sparingly - which is not really what it's famous for lol. But there is really no other reverb on the market that will give you the kind of grainy / thick / modulating tails this thing does. It has a distinct enough sound that you can spot it in almost any production that uses it.
Dragon Lee talking out your ass, use it and then tell me again how it sounds like Space Designer or Realverb Pro. Or even a AKGBX spring. You’re so laughable right now it’s not even funny.
Nothing can compare the hardware. Nice but very far from the original sound. I always have all the time the impression of a sound fake. Anyway great job

I have this plugin and can say it is truly fantastic sounding.
Love this reverb, such a huge classic. Big fan of the Vangelis film landscapes also.

Wow, amazing . It really sounds like a 224XL . Great Job
Wow .... This sounds exactly how I remember the 224 sounding.
That is an impressive plugin, sounded great through my Dynaudios!
I'm in love with my 224!
I bought this today, i like the other verbs on the uad but this will get used more due to the easy workflow, you can get a perfect setting in seconds. Imo, Very recommendable even for the price;-)
what were your upload settings? I don't hear any lossy compression unlike most other videos.
thanks for the wonderful video. After almost 40 years the Lexicon 224 still sounds, to my ears, the best, cleaner and more natural reverb in the Hi End segment, and still it only has 12bit resolution, how's that possible?
It shows that smart design and engineering will always beat pure digital power!
Love this plugin (especially on Coongas) Lol
Great demo!
Koongas...?

it's funny how UA make these demo videos with guys speaking to the camera, and then rotating to the screen everytime they introduce a topic
Rafael Graterol so? They’re in the zone dude lol
If you don't mind me asking, what kind of amp are you using to drive your NS10s?
just amazing
He sounds very tired, someone get this man a coffee 😂
Now that's reverb in all it's elegance lol
Nice emulator. Going to recommend it to a friend.
The Killen Atmospere preset is worth the admission price alone...
that guitar sample.. it seems so familiar, what's it from? i love it
Very, very, nice. Wish I could afford it. Going on my wish list!
it's $49 now on Streetwater
I tried to purchase this plugin but when adding it to my basket it says i must own a UAD-2 device? can anyone explain?
You need to own a UAD2 device in order to buy and use our plugins.
@@UniversalAudio so would the satellite be the one?
Sure, Satellites are a great way to use our plugins for mixing in your favorite DAW. It doesn't have to be an Apollo.
Just purchased one. I take it once I register it I'll be able to purchase directly off your website?
Yup!!
When do we should use reverb n delay in vocal n guitar Sir? plzz
Wow, the negaivity in here abounds!

clearly this man has never been around people who speak words out loud
Never heard coongas sound like that...
ok... very nice....
They should make a USB controller that looks like a Larc.
+Sparkletune Official WOuld you be happy with an iPad App?
LOL! Cool idea but not really. I use a PCM-91 and PCM81 anyway. I do have an MRC lying around from the old days, I should try to use that.

Someone tell me why this is better than Fruity Re-verb 2 which comes with FL Studio?

He knew what he was saying...

That was 5 months ago, now I insist on hardware ;)
"coongas"
Nice reverb, terrible product manager.... :-)
This Plugin is $349. Wtf? it's a plugin. That's bullshit. I'm sure the cost of all the R&D needed to create this plugin wasn't even that much.
Aucun manuel correcte, pourquoi ? démo en français inexistant.
Pas de son
nothing my ableton standard reverb cant do
too bad it doesnt sound as nice
Nothing can compare the hardware. Nice but very far from the original sound. I always have all the time the impression of a sound fake. Anyway great job
Sounds like any other reverb.
Har du knäck i öronen pojk? :)
