A week ago I bought my first camera in life, a Fuji XT5 with a 35 mm F.2 prime lens and Godox TT685II flash , it is beautiful, my first impression in the store when they took it out of the box and I held it in my hands (I had never touched a professional camera of any brand before) was that it is a premium camera and the quality is noticeable to the touch and sight. I am happy to have chosen this brand after several months of watching videos, reading forums and studying photography.
Thanks for all the dope content dude!
Just want to add, it's really nice to see how much your photos have improved over the last few years!
I've been doing photography for more than 40 years now, and I can tell you that these are really great photos. I love your portrait work, but would like to see a lot more of this outstanding scenic photography.
You may want to consider sharing the technical details of how you did the video for those of us who are new to moving pictures. I'm sure that would widen your audience. Thanks for posting this!
Thanks so much for the kind words!
Beautiful moments captured. The 16 is great! XT5 is just excellent. Cheers!
I preorded the XT5 and have been using it almost daily. I have take thousands of photos. a bit of video and a few thousand more photos. Probably easily 100,000 photos plus. I have found that the XT5 is about perfect for me. I am a busy Dad with 4 kiddos in every activity. So I cover everything from football games to show choir, Dance and Cheer, Marching band, Portrait and landscape. The XT5 is great to grab and get the photo or take a bit of time and create your photos and both turn out great. It has captured thousands of fleeting moments and is a very versatile tool that is a part of the family now. LOL
Watching this after switching from Sony to a Fuji XT4 a couple weeks now and I could not be happier. So cool that my favorite photographer has gone back to Fuji as well. Would love to see you try out the XS20 as well !
I second the XS-20 request, as I now have one as my first Fuji Camera!

Hola recomiendas el cambio?
Just because of the clicks and the algorithm … You can't believe anyone anymore
Which Sony did you have?
Well done! I’ve been on a similar path myself. I own several cameras across multiple brands. Took an almost three year break from Fuji but after experience with the X-T5 and X-H2S, they completely won me over and currently my favorite cameras to shoot with. I just started shkoting with the 27mm f1.2 Viltrox and I can honestly say it’s the closest I’ve come to full frame with an APS-C sensor camera when it comes to sharpness, details and dynamic range. I’m ignoring the full frame snobs. This camera system is amazing! Plus the added bonus of compact size and affordable lens options!
Etc
Congrats. Those colors sure are amazing.
Great work Mitch! I am astounded by your vision to daily life. The transition between video clips and then photos was stunning! Really well-made and edited video! Good luck in 2024! Fuji really inspired you
Thanks for the kind words!
I switched from a Sony A7 III to an XT2, and I appreciate how intuitive it is. Feels more structured towards photographers where I felt like the Sony did everything for you
So impressed😮 you’re an one in a million kind of talent for sure! Thank you so much!
Loved this one Mitch. Can’t wait to see what you make next!
Thanks Stan! Looking forward to your next video too!
Great video! Not only for the explanations but also the images overall. Also loved the ambient music, that gave it a relaxing mood.
Love it! Can't wait for more videos to come
Colors look amazing
Awesome man look forward to seeing how you get on with it, been shooting xt2 since 2016 but will finally make the jump to xt5 at some point early in the new year (or xpro4 if it’s announced soon..)
Got mine about 4 to 6 weeks ago, love it... Congrats mate 👍🏼
i love your photos! great video 😍👏
XT3 was the camera that introduced me to your channel.
Love your work mate 💯
Great video Mitch! Fantastic photos and videos!
Thanks Simon!
Definitely getting this camera 🙌🏾
I really love your photos and videos... super artistic and they move me .. SUBSCRIBED
Mitch, I like how you colorize your still photos. (Nice choice of background music also).
Thanks! Appreciate it
Great. Remembers me of my trip to Watson Bay and Coogee-to-Bondi walk with my XT2 and the 35 1.4 in 2018. Kind regards from Germany.
love it bro
Dam that XT5 is a fun camera to use, photos from Sydney came out so dope bro
Glad you moved to Fuji. Like another photographer who commented below, it's reassuring when one you your favorite TH-camrs picks up the same camera to highlight and use for an extended period. Loved the photos..brought back great memories!
Good to see your photography moving to non portrait/ model type work. Dont get me wrong, love your work in that area, but it almost feels like you have conguered that genre and time to explore other things. Nice images in this video btw
Great decision! Welcome back to Fuji mate 🙌🏻 The 18 1.4 is something special, defo give it a try if you can get your hands on one for a few days. I tried the 16 1.4 too but the 18 is what I chose to lock in, and I love it. Such a special lens!
Of course from your XT3 days I’m sure you’ll remember the 56 1.2, also such a special lens!
Surprisingly, I thought the staircase and lifesaver ring shots stood out as Mitch knows how to make a boring scene come to life. Well done in the videos. It makes it want to go travel to southern Utah but I got backlog tasks to do all week....Happy Holidays from Northern Hemisphere...
Great to hear your back with the Fuji, i was kind of hoping for a return when you had the shoot with Noff last year with the XH2.
Looking forward to your new videos, you’re actually the reason i bought my fuji xt4 with the 23 1.4
Where all the videos shot on the Fuji by the way or on your Sony ZV1?
That's a very good camera, and fun to use.
Great vid! I'm also considering the switch from Sony to Fujifilm. Currently using the A7R3a but after trying the Fuji GFX 50S II, I was blown away by the beautiful colors it produced. I'm going for the XT5 or XH2. Right now I'm not sure which one I should get.
Very nice work brother ❤
Really great shots! Love the look. Did you shoot in raw or are these sooc Fuji recipes?
Nice vid! I'm using the X100V and also my oldie but goldie X-T2, however considering stepping up to the X-T5, especially now after this video :) The stills, did you do any post processing or would you mind sharing your film simulation settings? Thx
Fuji and that beach you were at at the start go together too well. I've taken my X-T3 a fair few times there, good to see some of Sydney being shown off
Awesome visuals and great choice
Thanks mate! 🙏🏼
The head of Fuji council and the followers have gathered
Was the videos shown taken with the xt5 too? They are amazing
I feel like Fuji is your vibe bro 📸👌🏽👌🏽
I have had my XT5 since launch and I'll since Loved it every day I also have a gfx camera but I routinely reach for my XT5❤
I have a question: I record lengthy nature scenes (birds, squirrels etc) and need a camera that will record continuously for several hours. I currently use the Sony A6400 which will record for 10 hours straight on a 256GB Card and on A/C power. I would prefer to use my Fujifilm XT2 with unlimited A/C power via the battery grip, as it’s got much better quality but the video time limits make it impractical to press record every 30 minutes.
I’ve heard that the XT5 has no video recording time limits (until battery exhausts or memory card fills up) but has no power grip to plug in a/c power.
Can the xt5 connect to A/C power, enabling several continuous hours of recording footage? If not, can you recommend a camera (preferably from the fujifilm family) that can?
Thank you.
Great video as always. I would be interested to know your thought process on why not the a7r5 with you being already invested in the Sony ecosystem. I went from a Fuji xt2 to a Sony a7r5 and Im really happy about it although it was a costly move of course. And that was after trying out an xh2s. If staying with Fuji, I would have probably gone for the xh2 but all my lenses would not have been optimal for the higher resolution. Just interested. 😊
Love that camera too. what film simulation are you using in the photos at the end of the video? Cheers
You can buy a step up ring from 58mm to whatever size you can get in the NISI! That way you’re not stacking multiple. Doesn’t add much bulk!
Nice warm colours. Which film simulation and white balance did you use?
Upgraded from the XT30II to the XT5 a few months back. Cant wait until my trip to Japan next March.
Planning to do the same. Is the XT5 much heftier than XT30II?
Great video & oics. Thanks. Looking for a zoom for this camera for photo. What’s are your thoughts on the XF 18-55mm vs the XF 16-80mm? Cheers
Nice shots from around the harbour. I’ve had both Fuji and Sony systems are both are good. The biggest difference for me was the Sony full frame is better for low light and uses a different iso scale, and much more reliable for subject detection and autofocus tracking. The Fujis feel better built and have a unique control layout.
Has the color changed directly from the camera compared to the xt3? Maybe skin tone is transmitted differently?
hey mitch, kove the images you got! did you shoot with a particular film simulation and then apply your presets, or did you shoot without the simulations and use your presets afterwards? thanks!
Love Sydney places
Much respect
Great photos, I really love your new style, seems much more oriented towards geometry, composition and concept than in the past, great job!
I've been shooting in 4x5 for my professional work (mainly commercial photos), which is omnipresent these days, to simplify the workflow. I achieve that by putting a piece of tape on my a7iv screen. Pro tip: if you display 4x6 grid it's easy to position that, too by taping one row off :-D But jokes aside, I completely agree with your reasoning on 4x5, I just don't get why this option of custom aspect ratio is not there on Sony cameras while we do have 1x1 or 16x9 already.
XT5 is a very nice camera, and it seems it fits your creative style now very well, especially as you have another camera just for video. As a long-time XT2 shooter, as much as I love the form factor, I consider Fuji overall a worse deal, however. Lenses are technically inferior (e.g. AF speed, resolution) and more expensive than their Sony counterparts. And those are, to be precise, not G-master lenses but G line. Take, for instance, 56 1.2 vs 85 f/1.8 or XF 8-16 f/2.8 vs 12-24 f/4.
I actually used to do the exact thing - I didn't use tape but I just used the 4x6 grid and ignored the bottom row of the grid while framing - not optimal as you still need to crop when you get to LR but an easy work around.
Congratulations. I am considering to move from full frame to APS-C, especially XT-5.
Edit: Typos galore on my post. Apologies as I am in the car a while ago.
I've done the switch, a7r3 to xs10. much prefer the Fuji as I'm a hobbyist
I have the XH2s for video work (what a beast) I put an order on an XT5 mainly for photography. Did you notice any prominent decrease in quality, switching from full frame?
awesome vid. Is this video SOOC or edited ?
Hello Mitch, I just subscriebed to your chanell...this video is so soft in all aspects, starting from music, photos and videos( I need to do more "still" videos").Please advise me, did you use any camera settings to soften, warm up the tempereature of those videos or its something doen later? Many thanks Krzysztof
What do you think of Nikon Zf? I planned to get A7RV for the unique and useful 4 ways screen and I can get twenty something even in APSC mode even I will set it to the twenty something mp too in full frame but I think I will go for the Zf for the classic dials experience plus I love Yellow color and Nikon is Yellow themed and their image quality and body qualities are good too! Just I wish it has yellow color and they should have made it since they are Yellow themed as well, but I will sure add a Yellow shutter button to it! 💛
nice vid, question though, are you adding grain to all your pics? is it high iso? nice shots but they are grainy.
I discovered your channel when you did the Xt3 content long ago.
you're the og bro! thank you
The sharpening that im noticing in your photos is something that you edited right? Or do they come out like that
Gotta love the Fuji colours. Sony just feels uninspiring. I had the A7iv and it was clinically brilliant. But not fun. I’d love to see other manufacturers add film simulation to their cameras in body. The ZVE1 footage looks sublime. Nice colour matching to Fuji. Random question…has there been a firmware update to allow the cinematic vlog ‘looks/luts’ in normal filming modes? I.e without the added black bars? Many thanks.
Well this is just a perfect timing as I find myself in similar situation. Have my r6 with 200k shutter wear, need to swap some lenses for different focal length and this got me thinking if should not try something else. I love the form factor of fuji cameras, some of their f2 lenses are so tiny and great for travel or whole day shooting that it really makes me tempted to give it a try. Any thoughts on the differences between fullframe and aps-c so far? Missing the shallow depth of field sometimes? Having hard times in lowlight? Would be really grateful for any thoughts
i have xt5 thinking about to get zve1, is there any option like dr400 in video? simply having high DR without shooting log ?
Footage looks amazing! And colors!! Ahhh.... Wish try to replicate this on Panasonic S5II)))
Same, I recently moved from Fuji to Panasonic, and while the S5II is fantastic, that damn Fuji look man! Just so good!
A few things threw me off for this camera. No charger comes with it, I shoot an xt3 and shoot paid professionally as you do, the xt3 was a bit awkward to hold, especially when I add a light, soft box and diffuser on top. If I add a 16-55 or 50-140 this camera would be a bit off holding. They made the body more plasticity for some reason and lack of a grip for an option is odd as well. I'm glad people are enjoying Fujifilm.
I'm confused, did you use the X-T5 to film the scenes that weren't you talking at the camera? Or was that the Sony?
You are a prime example camera sensor size doesn’t matter, if the skills behind the camera are on master level! Great images as always and curious about future videos regarding Film Simulation and post editing 😊
How much shutter count did you put on your A7IV to get rid of the camera? 😮
Thanks mate! It was nearly at 200,000,
@@MitchLallystrong effort that 💪🏼
did you use a recipe for any of the photos?
I’m taking a similar journey. I had an a7iv. Loved i but sold it. Once I tried and saw Fuji’s color magic, I decided that for photos Fuji is the way to go. But for video the zve1 is the best. Best of both worlds.
I'm super happy on this setup and since they're both such small cameras I don't mind carrying both. And as a TH-camr it's always nice to have the ZVE1 to show B-Roll of myself shooting with the Fuji.
What camera did you use for this video?
4:58.....legendary photo
Mitch, hows the AF on this for portraits?
Love your colores, would you share the recipe?
Curious as to why the change. I’ve noticed photographers make these, what I would consider, massive changes after investing not just in the camera but all the glass. Do you find yourself editing less now because the image right out of the camera works for you?
Looks great. I'm currently considering switching from my old Canon 5D Mark II to Fujifilm myself. Interestingly, the Canon R6 is cheaper than the XT5 in Germany right now. But that's another topic. Do you use the new Fujifilm app? Does the app play a role in your workflow together with Instagram? I'd be interested to find out. Thank you.
The new app is significantly more reliable than the old one. I’ve never had it fail to connect or transfer photos. If you end up using the old app, just need to pick photos on the camera and let it auto transfer. That’s the most reliable method.
Why did you choose the xt5 over the XH2S
Which film sims the videos were shot with in xt5?
40mp on a crop sensor, low light problems?
Please share the recipies you're using
Bright sun, high contrast scenes well captured by the XT5 - high dynamic range. Have you tried the pentaprism/split image rangefinder type manual focus modes? Those assists remind of similar features on analog cams, perhaps Hasselblad.
BTW, how did that EOS camera strap sneak into the vid?😊 Cheers!
No I haven't - how do I try those? Is that a settng in the menu? Oh that was from an OLD OLD video haha - I used to think I was funny by using the wrong strap with the wrong camera brand :')
@@MitchLally Menu, AF-MF, MF Assist - You should see several cool options other than peaking. Should be one for digital split image and digital micro prism. That’s on xt-4, but should be similar on xt-5. Odd strap could be a channel thing - find the cameo strap😁. Cheers.
It could but I think Lok and Kai already claimed that back in the digirev days :')
Upgraded to Sony A7RV recently, but have been eyeing Fuji-cameras here and there. Maybe at a later time in the future :)
I think all systems do a good job regardless of the manufacturer. I have an a7IV with several GM prime lenses and do not want to upgrade or replace this system. But I plan to buy an additional Leica Q3 in 2024 to expand its use where I don't want to have the Sony system with me.
I went with the Nikon Zf. I always loved the look and feel from the Fuji Cams and i just love the retro style of it. But i am so in the nikon System I don't wanted two systems but if i can go with 2 it would be nikon and Fuji 🙂
Have fun with your new cam.
Hey how do you like ZF? Thinking about it for 2 months now but worried about the heft and ergonomics
@@nivin3 i have the smallrig grip and the erconomics is way better with it. With big lens is not like an Z9 but it depends which style of photography you like. In my opinion with the smallrig it fits perfectly in my hands.
классный цвет👍
I switched from the A7IV to the XT5 6 months ago and have no regrets. Sure it’s a crop sensor but it gets you 95% of what a full frame can do. Plus a smaller body and lenses
I’m thinking of doing the same thing. Is there really nothing you miss about Sony? I have an A7IV with a 35mm 1.4 GM. A few months ago I picked up a X100V and haven’t used my Sony since. I only shoot photography and I love my experience with Fujifilm so far. Is the autofocus just as good on the XT5?
@@Jcas93you’ll miss a little image detail and cleaner images at high iso, plus a simpler and more reliable autofocus system but you’ll gain a better feeling camera with a unique control layout that offers a different experience. I did an extensive write up on medium called ‘a journey to full frame mirrorless, switch from Fuji to Sony’ if you are interested in more details.
I switched from Fuji to fullframe. I do not regret it.
Use what you can afford and what makes you happier. If ur a hobbyist.
If you’re pro. . Then use what makes you more money.
@@Jcas93 very interesting topic. I have an a7IV with GM lenses (24,35,50,85) and I wouldn't replace it now. But I don't always want to take everything with me in the future and expand the system. I was also thinking about buying an additional x100v, but currently my heart beats a little more for the Q3 (design, workmanship, feel) and am planning it for 2024. The a7IV with the 35GM is incredibly good, you just have to invest a lot of time in post-processing. With the x100v, the image is already finished with the film simulation, which saves a lot of time if you don't want to sit at the PC again afterwards.
It's a fantastic camera, but I've got a pair for concert photography and I fling them around quite a lot, unfortunately the build quality makes me nervous.
That back screen hinge definitely won't last its flimsy and the top dials feel hollow and weak.
Unfortunately I'm going to let them go...
The OG 🫶🏼
X-T4 user... Been seeing the X-T5 for good prices online, under $1500.. Thinking about doing it..
What strap do you have?
Do you use Fuji recipes ?
I love the "Most replayed part of the video LOL 😁
Can you share your favourite fuji recipes please? :)
Great video, what camera strap do you have at 7:25? I quite like it.
I got it at the Leica store. It's a little expensive - however, there's a similar one linked in the description.
@@MitchLally What is the length of the Leica strap 100cm or 126cm ?
Do you have dry eyes?
Out of interest, what was the shutter count on the Sony?
almost 200k. I had a friend whose A7IV shutter failed at around 220k so that sort of made me worried haha. Also he sent it to Sony to get replaced TWICE and it still doesn't work properly again - I think he gave up dealing with Sony - kinda another reason I moved on from the A7IV.
A photographer's camera.... great choice
If you worry about shutter life, use the Electronic Shutter. I know my Sony camera has 700K shutter but only 4k are registers on the camera since I always use the electronic shutter.
There are a few drawbacks of the electronic shutter such as rolling shutter and banding under artificial light. I shot some indoor photos for a friend where I forgot to turn the mech shutter back on and the banding was really bad so my solution was just to keep e-shutter off.. I agree though it is a great way to ensure you don't rack up shutter count.
If they break down they breakdown. They are eletronics afterall. When it happen just repair or replace it. All brand the same in this case. Electronics. Buying it and then worry/afraid of the shutter count is just so weird. Its like owning a car but not driving it because you’re afraid of car breakdown..
Was it color graded?
Straight out of camera if you're talking about the video.
@@MitchLally It looks amazing....
Wow the warm color right out the camera is beautiful. Clarity is a little lower than the Sony footage but the look is super nice @@MitchLally
