When I was younger, 65 now, my fav color was red. Someone told me I wore too much red and I let them influence me and mostly stopped wearing it at all. My fav color for years now has been black, though last year I thrifted all kinds of different colors. One night I was putting on my red top, that I wear as a pajama, over the black pants I had on. Wow! They looked so good together. I ordered the same top again and will be wearing black/red today. I’m being me. You be you and wear that red if you love it.
😊Good for you! Go for it 🎉! As an HSP, I know from experience how an evil👿 or even 😮careless comment can instantly steal our ✨️joy when we're feeling vulnerable🥺.
Stylistically, both my dear parents were more showy, 🎭artistic & avant garde. They made me love fashion. My 🥰mother was a pocket Venus & could happily wear a va-va-voom silhouette on her lush ⏳️hourglass frame.
😬Shared her voluptuous shape, but thankfully got 7" more ⬆️ from my hulking father😍. My mom could charmingly put the cats😾 in their place & keep the predatory wolves🐺 back. That nonchalent ability escaped me😳.
😬Frankly, the 👀 scrutiny from both ♀️ sexes ♂️, made me self- conscious. So, in as much as I could, I dialed down the drama. Simply wearing more flattering silhouettes caused enough of a furor. I staunchly refused their efforts to sway me in their direction too (which ultimately made me more confident in my choices👏🏻).
❤Red has never played a huge role in my wardrobe, but I still have a handful of pieces. It's a high intensity color, so it requires a certain level of brashness on my part to carry it off. For style risks, I need to possess a 😈devil-may-care confidence toward trash talk.
Back in the mid-90s, I was feeling spicy enough to grab my red leather bomber❤️🔥. Alexa's red cardigan w/the animal print🐾 pants is the SAME amazing color🎉.
😑Upon seeing me, my newest machismo buddy who was even MORE style conservative than myself did a moonwalk & said "Michael Jackson wants his jacket back."
🤨Although I told the fashion neanderthal he was way OFF base, it CHANGED the way I felt about it🤣. Yes, the red clearly put it in pop ⭐️star league, but it did 🧐NOT have MJ's tomato red color or his 80s exaggerated 🧟Thriller shoulder silhouette.
🤔Had I been in tip-top form emotionally, his comment would've rolled off like water💧 on a 🦆duck's back. Thirty years later we still laugh about it, but I still regret allowing his snarky judgement to push me towards ousting it.
😕Peer pressure is a damnable thing. It had been the PERFECT shade for me〰️& it was a timeless, classic cut. 📦 Lesson learned: stow away things you love for later.

My aunt who is your same age, always wears red outfits and my mother (her stuffy older sister, who wears mostly black) constantly ridicules her for it... In quiet solidarity with my aunt, I've started adding more red items to my wardrobe, and honestly I see why she loves to wear the color. Its so bold and spicy and adds some flair to boring outfits. I feel like a head turner in red and tend to get more compliments too

I love how you rock all different shades of red! If red is your go to pop of color right now, I say keep going with it and trying it out in new ways. My pops of color are typically green, blue or purple so I like to see how others style their own color schemes!

about the "pilgrim outfit" - something similar just happened to me and I was soooo hesistant to wear it after that comment. in the end I just reminded myself that they have their (very conservative and not so CREATIVE 😂) style, and I have mine. in the end, the only thing that matters is if we found joy in it and if so, we will wear it like QUEENS. 👸 🔥🖤

I feel ya on the whole, either all dark or all colors. Don't know what it is. Sometimes it's mood, sometimes it's convenient. Yesterday was black sweatpants and a grey and black graphic raglan and today is a rainbow skirt, navy and white polka dot button up and a red cardigan. It's just, whatever. It's clothes and it's fun.
If you really want to get out of your comfort zone I have a suggestion. Up your shoe game. The 1st outfit with the red anklets would have looked fabulous with a white skinny strap heeled sandal, for example. Switch to a cute brown penny loafer instead of the 90's/Y2K Mary Jane's. The leopard pants with a pointed toe kitten heeled mule in almost any color would be fantastic. There's a place for the shoes you have but you could really change up a look with so many other shoe styles. PS, I like the rats! ♥️

Haha it’s funny that you mentioned the best feeling like emotional support because I work in ABA therapy with kids and we often put best that can be tightened on them to help them regulate their emotions and calm them down. Maybe it’s just a sensory thing we all share 🤷🏽♀️

2) Both the navy flower power dress w/white cobweb cardi AND the purple patterned slip dress w/Bratz choker: Perfection! 😊Right up my alley.
3) Both ❤Red Tight Looks lean Ali McGraw from 🎬Love Story...only slightly MORE feminine♀️. She had a stronger ♂️boyfriend vibe.
4) Love pilgrim plaid. The edgy boots keep it from feeling too 👶precious. 📦Unboxed a few ⛪️church dresses from the 90s that I kept. It was clearly an ULTRA feminine stage for me. In '23 found a way to funk 'em up. Treat 'em as a skirt w/cosy contrasting white jumper. Wear my white⭐️high tops too.
5) OD'd on short & long denim maxi skirts that same decade🤣. You looked great, but I still can't seem to revisit them.
6) Smokin' w/the black & white outfit & silver brogues.
7) The faux fur coat & light blue denim overalls looked fab together. The color combo sings.
8) Love that shade of green. 😉Have two similar tops I need to figure out a way to wear. They turn my blue peepers green🍀.
9) Loving the deep purple T-neck w/black trouser 🆒️. Have a dark purple sweater, purple floral midi skirt & a short purple pencil skirt that got play last year. 💯% gonna figure out MORE ways to wear them.
10) Liking the red & white ensemble. Feel the vibe. Love your vest looks too.
My main palette is mostly dark neutrals, but I can't resist collecting pretty color. I just reserve those items for home & church where I feel comfy expressing my softer side.

Gotta say this too. The skirt is cute and trained rats are adorable. But my idea of hell is just a cramped moldy room filled with rats and creepy bugs.
