I just think we focus too much on being “unique”, “special” or different than everyone, to the point where dressing timeless and minimal is considered boring not exciting enough.
@@angelhellokitti and yeah i agree about the minimal thing, thats one thing i forgot to mention because sometimes on like tiktok and stuff ill see a styling video where the outfit is not cute LMAO but they can call it a stylish outfit just because its unique
Hearing “not everyone can or want to leave the house” felt like a warm hug. I suffer from chronic pain which makes leaving the house rare for me. I love fashion but haven’t been able to properly dress up or feel cute lately. This video came at the perfect time❤
It's even harder to find inspiration in your 40s. Not only is it difficult to find anyone close to my age who posts outfits regularly, but even when they do, they're often wearing the same oversized and relaxed fit clothes that are trendy now and all in neutrals (and which make me look like I'm a child wearing hand-me-downs while cosplaying as a boring accountant... not exactly the look I'm going for at my age). I found your videos because I wanted to learn how to accessorize and wear more color, and it's fun to watch you take a character/idea and interpret it. I mean, you interpreted a flower and nailed it.
That's so awesome! I hate how Hollywood and the media in general paints it that women above 30 can't have fun with their style or clothes- if they don't dress like a typical suburban mom or are a mega-rich designer-wearing middle aged woman then any deviation from the norm makes you childish or "insecure"- not acting your age or whatever. It's so stupid and sexist and I hope you have lots of fun with your fashion!
I think one issue that makes styling more difficult is the sexual focus. I realized this when I watched a video on glam grandma’s and quite loved their style. They were loudly fashionable and enjoying life but modest the whole time. I think wanting to still dress a particular way into your 80’s means it is a good fit and not something that is just a trendy influenced style that crept into your wardrobe. You can see it with people who just age into their style and not out of it. One thing I think is that style should get more dramatic with age and not less.
So true! The only person that comes to mind for inspo to a "mature" audience is Trinny from Trinny London. She is bold with colors and texture. Other than that I can't find lots of inspirational channels, most stylists on YT from her "age group" are pretty boring... lots of beige beige beige...ugh.
I think some people don't realize that not everyone has the same feed. I'm interested in fashion and current trends and my feed looks nothing like what theirs looks like. I only learn about these trends through videos like yours
This! You have to put work into personalizing your algorithm just as much as you have to put work into developing personal style. I think the larger issue is the hyper fast trend cycle and the resultant instant gratification need for a magic formula- start viewing and saving diverse inspiration and you’ll get shown more
I usually use pinterest for tips on how to style clothes I already wear in different ways, but mostly I use it for saving bias pics and sims 4 cc shopping 🤭
Pinterest is my most used social media platform but it doesn't have a negative impact to my personal style since (like Katy) I have a lot of variety in my style I can dress very alternative, total black with punk elements and the next day I'd be dressed in cutesy elements, pastels and frills and the day after that Id be dressed with very muted colors, earth tones kinda post apocalyptic. So pinterest is really helpful when it comes to styling things differently and getting new ideas since Im not limiting myself to one style.
Even though I don’t agree with the sentiment regarding Pinterest, I do appreciate the tips about finding styles that include architecture and even looking at old photo albums. Also, I didn’t expect to see my favorite bird at 8:53, the Eurasian Hoopoe.
i'd be crazy happy if you brought the "dressing like" series back, i rewatch those all the time! i think i love it so much because i almost always just dress for vibe, i.e. whatever story i'm currently acting out in my head
Hey, a tip for fairy aesthetic footwear without purchasing new shoes could be using leg warmers in that colour palette and adding accessories to them like hair clips or even anklets (extra points for ones with butterflies or flowers), and putting that over a cute heel or may jane shoe. Also love the video and all your fits
I would love to see a DC characters / Young Justice / Teen Titans look book ! I think it would be fun if you could use their suits as inspiration into something more casual :>>
Coraline was literally the only reason why 6 year-old me was obsessed with raincoats, rain boots, newsboy caps, and striped stockings lol 😂 I wanted to be her sooo bad after watching the film on repeat
when you cut to the layered birthday cake outfit i literally mouthed "oh my god thats so cute" at my phone, the colors + patterns r so fun and striking together
Looking to fandoms always gives me really fun inspo for style! It's always really interesting to actually look at the clothes my favorite characters wear and see what I like about their designs. I've also taken a lot of inspo from fan art haha! I especially love when fan artists of the media that I like give the characters non canon or modern outfits that match their personalities!
Taking inspiration from blind boxes' characters is a great idea!! I'd actually really enjoy a full video styling yourself as the blind box characters you already own ^^
wow as an aussie girl shirley barber was such a blast from the past - her illustrations were everything! also shout out to pearlie the park fairy for another book series that made me so jealous of fictional fairy fashion!!
i have a small collection of acrylic charms of anime and video game characters that i can put on my phone and sometimes i try to make the color scheme and the vibes of my outfit match with whichever charm i picked that day! it helps me so much on days when i don't know what to wear
I was born in 2005 but when you mentioned shirley barber i recognised those ilustrations instantly. I had a book with puzzles for pages and i was obsessed with them. You unlocked a childhood core memory within me
for me personally, pinterest helped me a lot to develop my own style. I started using it at age of 11/12 and I found so much inspiration, now I wear variations of the things I see on Pinterest or create own outfits
it's always a good day when Katie posts! i absolutely love pinterest for inspo but the repetitive algorithm can be frustrating. thanks for the reminder to look elsewhere! kpop is always the biggest source for me. i'd love to see a video of kpop inspired fits from your albums or just favorite concepts!
As an autistic person, Pinterest always overwhelms me. It feels again like I'm "behind" constantly, never fitting in with the right trend at the right time. I used to hyperfocus on other people's style, in order to fit in. I also never get how trends are set. Who decides what's trendy when? And if something doesn't make sense to me, it makes me confused. I felt mostly stress when I think about personal style, never really knowing what I liked to wear. Now, I know my comfort clothes , but nothing is set in stone & I'm looking forward to have fun with clothes again. Your video helped me. I feel so inspired!! Thank you, truly 💖💖💖
Whenever i think i am at the peek of my knowledge about how to be creative and unique in fashion i watch one of your videos and realize that i am not and that there is way more possibilities of making it that i still have to figure it out and experiment. And it doesn't hurt my confidence about my creativity capacity at all, actually its the opposite, it makes me even more inspired to be creative on the way i dress! Thank you for the videos and sorry for any writing mistake, i am from Brazil haha
I agree that sometimes itsnt easy to get inspired on how to channel your inner style, even more so when you live somewhere where weather is warm and you cant wear layers as much to upgrade your fit, but i agree that withdrawing inspo from shows, games, magazines will change the game!
OMG! Shirley Barber, yes! I found my books the other day. I do love pinterest, its just inspo. I have many a sub board in my fashion board for the different vibes i like. A lot of them intertwine, but im trying to amp up the fantasy inspiration. I go to LARP and the costume and character design is by far my favourite part so I am trying to pull that into everyday fits.
I love how you aim to be and succeed at being helpful like this-when people only throw out criticism but not any ideas and solutions on how to fix things or do better, it can be just really negative and depressing. How do I get inspired…? By watching YOUR videos! 🤭✨
Some movies that do have a lot of fashion focus but also just so beautiful that the photography and architecture are so beautiful that become an inspiration by themselves are Helter Skelter and The Love Witch. I love the heavy red in both of them but the vibe is still pretty different.
my cousin and i always look at old family photos and videos and everyone was always dressed so slay, like even us as three year olds in 2004 and the cutest little fits.
i love pinterest but i purposefully only have one board dedicated to clothes to avoid getting overwhelmed. what i actually use for outfit inspo are my themed boards (i.e fantasy, album concepts, movie moodboards etc) and then the colour palettes that come along with them!! it helps with versatility i think
One piece lookbook would be so cool! There are a lot of outfits that remind me of your style (especially from newer sagas) and their aesthetics are so unique too 🏴☠️
I fined alot of style inspo for the Internet Archives Magazine rack. They have alot of fruits magazines and fashion books which are my main inspo. Its like old school pinterest.
I think a pair of ballet flats would match the fairy core aesthetic in either white or pink and then you could mix and match them with the rest of wardrobe. I would love to see you style the shiny pink robe as a fairy, I think a cute pink dress/ silk slip and some white or pastel pink shoes would look cute with it!! I definitely take inspo from film and tv characters and nature as well. I also love dressing like my favourite pop stars and their music videos. I have multiple pinterest boards, I also look at minimal casual fits, really colourful fits and then I have board of a particular famous person. I was watching emily in paris recently so of course I made a board of her outfits!! Great video as always.
While I don't get much Pinterest fatigue, I really appreciate these suggestions for fashion inspo. I especially loved the fairy inspiration as it tends to be my fashion inspiration as well. I like to take fashion inspiration from k-pop videos as well.
I used to have a book of puzzles (literally had he image on the left and then a like 50 piece puzzle on the right of that image) of a bunch of her fairy illustrations …I kept it for yearsss until my own daughter started playing with it and when we moved I realized that some of the pieces that were missing couldn’t found anywhere which was a bummer cause I’d kept it for like 20 years lol
I love how creative and playful you always are with your fashion, it's so inspiring! My favorite looks were the hirono inspired one and the red and white flower one!
I love that 2001 Head over heels film.. and the fashion in it.. I’m going to date myself, but I was a teenager when it came out and I wanted to dress like them 😅
this is SO helpful bc while i love my pinterest feed, i do feel like the vibes of all the inspo it serves me up can be rather one-note at times. it was so inspiring to hear all the places you get inspo from!
I'm not a fashion girlie but I watched your video because Pinterest has been poisoned for many artists. It's rife with AI bs and it's not helpful when you need like an actual reference for anatomy (for example). I'm also a doll collector and you've made me so excited to pull out some Monster High dolls that have been collecting dust ❤🎉
Hello hello, I just found you so disregard this if you already have a pair but there IS a style of boot that is super fairycore, in fact I've sometimes even seen them called "pixie" boots. They're also sometimes just called "slouch" boots. They're going to be totally flat, usually made out of suede/faux suede, have a ruched top of varying heights, an almond or pointed toe, and often times a little embellishment on the side like a tassel. I'm not sure how popular they still are but I know they were popular as recently as the late 2010s because I actually have a pair that my grandma purchased new at the time. I've been wearing them for years mostly as house shoes. super comfy!
I have tried. Many times. And failed, for over 20 years now (I'm 34). I have multiple Pinterest boards. I make them, post some shit, then never look at it ever again. I now look at what colours fit me, what brands I trust, what material is worth investing, and what works for my body (for example, ruffles never ever work for me, so I won't bother). You are more into the pastel looks, but I'm loving the bright colours especially the autumn side works amazing for my hair colour (strawberry blonde). I never cared for trends, I just care for what 'works' and that feels rare in itself. But I'm getting there. I've gotten so many compliments the past months since I updated my wardrobe. And I haven't followed a single trend... I... don't really know what the trends are to be honest...Not to mention 95% of my clothes is second hand, I would be behind anyway lol. Oh, fun fact: I found a lot of inspiration from gaming! Yes! For example last week I was wearing a combo inspired by the outfit Aerith wears in FF7. The flowy dress with a nice leather jacket and boots and thick bracelet. And it works so well and is in my opinion very unique and timeless.
Loved so many of those looks! Here are three movies that are not of the moment right now (i.e. no one is talking about them) but I'd love to see styles inspired by them: Alice in Wonderland from 2010 and Crimson Peak from 2015, (both with Mia Wasikowska) and then a super old movie that's on Disney: Babes in Toyland from 1961. Babes in Toyland is kind of a terrible movie but the costumes are just amazing and so inspiring. Just love!
I have that book with the maroon cover you showed in one of the slides of the fairy illustrations!! : O and I would looove to see you do a w.i.t.c.h. isnpired lookbook, can't remeber if you did one already, I feel like you said you were going to but than ended up going in different directions and I just think you would nail the style of that comic so if I'm not misremembering and you don't have a w.i.t.c.h. video already I would again love to see your take on it!!
Talking about fashionable side characters, these are the ones I have just at the top of my head, that I have gone “ooh das cute”. Incredibly random btw. -Big girls dont cry, they get even. Laura, Corinne, and Josh maybe. Even the stepmom was kinda fashionable ngl. Of what I kinda hazily recall, anyways. -Suite Life of Zach and Cody. London Tipton, duh -Clarissa explains it all. Clarissa, lol. Some of them are misses, but we get some pretty solid looks. -My cousin Vinny. Mona Lisa, she slayyyed I cant believe she’s the aunt in spiderman everyone was raving about, how she shapeshift like that, but more importantly, she slays in every look whaaaaaaaat -Boy meets world. Cory, Eric, and yas Topanga. I remember the side character/background girlies slaying like 8/10 times as well uwu idk -Veronica Mars. Love the stylists, how they were like “shes a rich popular girl tryna be edgy, so ofc her wardrobe would reflect that.” Yasss. So cute. -Malcolm in the Middle. I saw you do Luke from the Gilmore girls, this is peak boy fashion lol anything and everything they wear is still in like, every guys closet. Always. -Fresh Prince. You cant look me in the eyes and say only ,Hilary slayed. Everyone slayed mk literally everyone, including the side characters, like 9/10 times. -Saved by the Bell. Kelly, bc ofc. What did you want me to say. Lisa slayed too. I never cared for jessie idk y. To me it’s just Kelly, Lisa, and then Screech and whoever else is in that show is kinda irrelevant idek -Cant buy me love. Cindy. I remember the fits being ✨. That being said I cant rlly remember a specific one. -Uncle Buck. Tia. Same thing for her, the fits were a slay I just know that much, and honestly thats enough for me. -h20. Watched the first season? I think? A couple years ago. Their outfits and styling overall are rarely a miss, and Lewis’. fits. are. ✨iconic. ✨Like all of them have such solid styling to match each character, but like also all of them match the beachy y2k vibe, so like theyre not exactly interchangeable but theyre all a slay. Like subtle repetition for characters styling makes it even more like, not timeless, but like cool? Idk. Like you can look at a fit and be like “thats cute, its beachy, its y2k, and it’s kind of giving Emmaur.” Yknow? Like easily recreatable. Idk show is a 10/10, honestly Lewis is the best character. Ive gotten a bit off topic I’ll admit. -Honey we shrunk the kids/ourselves. This is more of like me as a child vibing with random things for some reason. The mom Diane, slay. The two neighbor boys, slay. 10/10 solid characters, idk I’m kinda obsessed with their outfits in the whole situation yknow. Idk y. In the other movie, idk y either but I just liked Jenny. The whole scene with mitch and the banana thing idk. The fact that she like turned down Ricky, the most like “desirable” boy of what the 4th grade or whatever, like we stan a queen. It’s not rlly fashion related, it’s just vibes ahaha.
I really loved this video! I really appreciated the inclusion of some men’s fashion. My style is still pretty girly even though half my pieces are probably from the men’s department.
14:28 this sort of reminds me of cicely mary barker, also painted fairies. my absolute favorite artist. i plan on getting a few of her drawings tattooed
some suggestions for you for tv show lookbooks: x files (could be a fun challenge?), desperate housewives (!!!!), true blood (seasons 1-3) and or one piece (a op lookbook would be so gooood)
Ngl I understand the sentiment, but personally this isn’t my case. I have used Pinterest ever since I heard Emma chamberlain preach about it in 2022. As a matter of fact I don’t have Instagram nor TikTok downloaded on my phone but I do have Pinterest. So I think I might not use this app like the lay person which is why I don’t feel it has become detrimental to my style, but the main reason why is that I have multiple styles in a way. I save pins but if I don’t like things, like the fur sweaters (ik shocker) I simply don’t. Also my clothes folder has a TON of sub-folders which are for different styles I enjoy or for seasons. This has actually made me realise about trends early on! I mean I loved the mermaid aesthetic and jelly aesthetic way back in 2022. And in early 2022 I loved the Russian hat aesthetic, and then bam! Also I do some of the things that you said like look at old pictures, I love Jane Birkin!! And also I am trying to rescue some 2010 trends lmao. Thus far I haven’t found much. Anyways idk maybe I’m blindly biased by the Pinterest masses who knows.
As a New Yorker...I rarely see drip here. Everyone kn my school wore the same ripped jeans, white airforce ones dirty ass crocs, same hoodies....It was depressing tbh
i agree, a lot of the style girlies i see on instagram and pinterest are all kind of looking the same even though we consider their styles "unique"
I just think we focus too much on being “unique”, “special” or different than everyone, to the point where dressing timeless and minimal is considered boring not exciting enough.
"We"
@@PuppyBIood yes...
@@angelhellokitti EXACTLY like being unique is coming to be a trend which is literally against the point of personal style
This video came at the perfect time❤
Hugs from another chronic pain haver ❤️❤️

Carla Rockmore has great videos featuring more “mature” fashion but with color and texture and fun accessories! I’ve learned a lot from her videos :)

Also, I didn’t expect to see my favorite bird at 8:53, the Eurasian Hoopoe.

i'd be crazy happy if you brought the "dressing like" series back, i rewatch those all the time! i think i love it so much because i almost always just dress for vibe, i.e. whatever story i'm currently acting out in my head
if you have a personal style that others don’t too, pinterest’s algorithm like…breaks 😭 i can’t find anything on there now
Bratz dolls were my favorite growing up and definitely inspired current staples of mine (platforms, mini skirts, cropped t’s)
This happened to me with classic 2000s Barbie movies
Hey, a tip for fairy aesthetic footwear without purchasing new shoes could be using leg warmers in that colour palette and adding accessories to them like hair clips or even anklets (extra points for ones with butterflies or flowers), and putting that over a cute heel or may jane shoe.
The best inspiration for fashion, clothing is from outside those avenues
I have a hard time on putting outfits together that are considered business casual (for work) while still being me. :/
Every one of these outfits was so cute! I think my favorite was the first one. I think video games are also a great source of fashion inspo.
The subtle Soobin R photocard flex. Such a cute fit and an even cuter photocard :3
I'm not a fashion girlie but I watched your video because Pinterest has been poisoned for many artists. It's rife with AI bs and it's not helpful when you need like an actual reference for anatomy (for example). I'm also a doll collector and you've made me so excited to pull out some Monster High dolls that have been collecting dust ❤🎉
it would be cool to see some futuristic sci-fi inspired outfits! also kamikaze girls is def a style inspo movie for me
love to see u more active around here. you're sooo creative!
I just moved house and got to reorganise and upgrade my KPop album shelf and it gives me so much inspo!
Ugh you're so creative! I was surprised by the outfit inspired by the red and white flower 👌
girl you are GLOWING in the studio ghibli outfit!! thank you for another wonderful video with a ton of inspiration
and I would looove to see you do a w.i.t.c.h. isnpired lookbook, can't remeber if you did one already, I feel like you said you were going to but than ended up going in different directions and I just think you would nail the style of that comic so if I'm not misremembering and you don't have a w.i.t.c.h. video already I would again love to see your take on it!!
i second this!
the cake outfit reminds me of gokinjo monogatari ! (also i love ur soobin pc.. >u
I love that birthday cake outfit !
Your style is lovely and so refreshing, LOVED the cake inspired look.
London Tipton, duh
-Clarissa explains it all. Clarissa, lol. Some of them are misses, but we get some pretty solid looks.
-My cousin Vinny. Mona Lisa, she slayyyed I cant believe she’s the aunt in spiderman everyone was raving about, how she shapeshift like that, but more importantly, she slays in every look whaaaaaaaat
-Boy meets world. Cory, Eric, and yas Topanga. I remember the side character/background girlies slaying like 8/10 times as well uwu idk
-Veronica Mars.
To me it’s just Kelly, Lisa, and then Screech and whoever else is in that show is kinda irrelevant idek
-Cant buy me love.
Oh my goddd I love hirono too 😍 he's so sulky it's too cute!!
I really loved this video! I really appreciated the inclusion of some men’s fashion. My style is still pretty girly even though half my pieces are probably from the men’s department.
yeah where I live most people have absolutely no style 😂
im obsessedddddd w the sevond outfit that is so so cute
The cake-inspired outfit gave Pinkie Pie vibes also!
I feel like you should be a stylist because so many celebrities would be blessed with your dress! 💗💞
i think a one piece lookbook would be super interesting to see!!
haven’t even watched this yet but ik it’s a banger
The effort you put into these videos always floors me! Well done- and you ate that Bratz look ❤
nobody is doing it like you queen, this video is another banger
I think a lot of content creators have the same feed… bc I don’t see fur coats on my Pinterest ever.
14:28 this sort of reminds me of cicely mary barker, also painted fairies. my absolute favorite artist. i plan on getting a few of her drawings tattooed
i know this is unrelated but you have really introduced me to personal styles and building my own, so thank you so much
some suggestions for you for tv show lookbooks: x files (could be a fun challenge?), desperate housewives (!!!!), true blood (seasons 1-3) and or one piece (a op lookbook would be so gooood)
I'm sure you'll enjoy Paradox live. An anime adaptation of this show was released this fall.
Thank you for the video! ❤️
If you were to go back into TV cookbooks I would LOVE for you to do Ever After High!!
This was so creative and gave me some great ideas! Thank you, Katie 🥰
Calico Critters and SkullPanda😭😭✨
you outdid yourself with this one! i'll always be a pinterest lover but this was a good reminder to also find inspiration elsewhere :)
Omg Shirley Barber! I think I still have one of her books somewhere in storage, I'd probably cry if my mum got rid of them lol
Your Studio Ghibli outfit looks like all of the Scooby Doo characters in one look
You should style off of Buffy the vampire slayer! She always looks so good and is a 90s fashion icon.
These are kind of random but I would be interested in a Code Name Kids Next Door or a Soul Eater look book!
A W.I.T.C.H lookbook would be So much fun to see
Popmart Azura's are my absolute favorite!
Can you do a Nana or twilight look book?
