    After traveling in Mexico for almost 2 years, we visited Oaxaca City, Mexico for Dia de Muertos. In this travel vlog, we experience one of the most important traditions in Mexico.
    WHAT HAPPENS IN THIS MEXICO VLOG? WE...
    - Visit multiple cemeteries in Oaxaca;
    - Encounter unexpected Day of the Dead festivities;
    - Experience "Comparsas" in the streets of Oaxaca City
    - Watch Coco, the Musical;
    - Try delicious Oaxacan street food;
    - See the elaborate and colorful Dia de Muertos 2019 decorations;
    - and more!
    If you're wondering what Dia de Muertos 2019 was like, we hope our vlog helps you experience what it was like in Oaxaca City, Mexico. This city has one of the biggest Day of the Dead celebrations in the whole country. An incredible number of people traveled to Oaxaca to get a taste of the magic and we're thankful to be some of them.
    ABOUT US (MADDIE & JORDAN)
    In January 2018, we sold everything we owned in the US (except our husky Laska & what fit in our tiny, tangerine Prius C3) to travel the world-starting with Mexico. Since then, we've been making travel videos about our life in Mexico and the new experiences we encounter while traveling the world. If you'd like to join our shenanigans, subscribe to our TH-cam channel. You can also poke around our social media to find out what we’re up to each week.

    Maddie thank you for being so conscious of showing respect for the families at the cemeteries. It was touching and showed a good heart.
    Since both of you love the city so much would you consider living there? I've checked one of the hotels with 1 bedroom apartments and they were just under 500US for a 4-5 month stay in centro. Good buy?
    I'm in the beginning stage of a new business I can run from the Net. Given it proves out I'll be moving to Mexico and probably Oxoaca or San Christobal in about a year. Thanks for all the videos. They are intricately cut and produced.

      Thank you for the compliments, Stuart! That really means a lot to us :) As for your question - We haven't done enough rental searching in Oaxaca to know whether that's a good price for the location, though it does seem like it to me. You'll often find that prices are double (or more) on Airbnb, so that might be a good gage for you. We also recommend joining a local Facebook group for Oaxaca City and searching or asking there. Hope this helps!

    @17:34 thank you for respecting our culture and the people celebrating. You guys did the right thing. Dia de muertos was not meant to be as commercial as it is becoming. It's meant to be intimate, just you with your family, both living and departed. Anyone is welcome to join us and come watch or take pictures and video but only as long as you respect the people and the dead. What you two did is how all tourists and visitors should go about it.

    It is always a pleasure watching you two lovely people, but this was truly exhilarating. Even more, it was insightful, not just in a travel sense but philosophically. Yes. I am of the age where friends, associates and clients are passing away. The fear and mystery of death is compounded by the Anglo American Northern European Teutonic concept of death as fearful and dark and cold and grim and final, further exacerbated by the deterioration of the family and loss of spiritual heritage. Of course we have been separated from our spiritual heritage by modern mechanistic materialism, the "man is nothing more than a lumbering robot" philosophy. Contrast the celebration and participation that you are witnessing. Tight family cohesion and traditional spiritual life full of color and celebration; not cold and not final. Look at American Halloween, where it is all about me me me and kids consuming large amounts of sugar. And what is on the media for Halloween? Murder in various forms. Brutal bloody movies about slaughter. You have provided some true insight. You are special folks.

    @11:48 that's a children's game called "La víbora de la mar" or "Rueda de San Miguel". It's very common throughout Mexico and Central America. It's basically the equivalent to a nursery rhyme and follow the leader in one. As children we used to hang on to the person in front of us and he or she would run in one direction and then change and since we were all hanging on to one another the trick was to not let go no matter how fast and how quickly we all turned, and as we all ran in a circle or a serpentine, we would all sing the song "¡A la víbora víbora de la mar, de la mar por aquí pueden pasar, los de adelante corren mucho y los de atrás se quedarán...!"
    Only in here the song the band is playing is actually the melody of that song and it's adults doing it for fun. Lol

    Thank you for this video! My first thought when I saw it was 40+ minutes was that you should have split it in 2, but I'm so glad you didn't. Well done guys!

    Omg omg omg!!! 😍♥️I live in Oaxaca and I would have loved to see you around specially because we were in the same spots almost at the same time. Your video shows pretty good how big "dia de muertos" is here. Also, I completely agree with you about Xoxocotlán. it's a huge party that has gone a little off rails and the last few years have been difficult for the families that honor their loved ones there, I mean they were used to the visitors before but right now it's all so crazy that it seems impossible to get the real feeling there. That's the reason I prefer going to the "panteón central" which is a much older cemetery where the atmosphere is completely different because most tombs there are super old and sometimes the families that you see gathered around the tomb are two or three generations away from the person buried. I think you missed the part of the cemetery where "la tumba del muerto olvidado Is" It has a great story to tell and the spot itself is beautiful. But okay, maybe next time😉Btw, the market around the cemetery is only there during the festivities.

    I've been binge watching your videos for over a week now. I love them all, this one is my very favorite so far. I can see how much energy you put into it. I love that your eyes, Maddy were painted tangerine. I keep finding myself snacking while watching because you're always making me hungry 😁.

    You two are so adorable and seemingly perfectly compatible in being able to travel together! I wonder if these travels deepens your bond as there are always lots of decisions that have to be made on trips like this, sometimes quick decisions. In 1980 for 4 months I traveled solo all over Mexico & Central America, Oaxaca was one of my favorite cities. I was actually in Guatemala for the day of the dead way up in the hills and the celebrations were so interesting, as well as all of the tombs - some were elaborate of all sizes, some not fancy but you could feel the love and appreciation of the family's adornments of respect, and some huge and beautiful like you saw. Glad I found your channel. I'm still considering moving to Mexico - got to be near the beach and there are so many beautiful ones.
