Top deck. I LOVE busses, especially upstairs. I have a car so rarely use public transport but it takes me right back to my childhood when we didn't have a car so used busses all the time even to go to Bournemouth on holiday most years. Took my daughter on a bus last year & we had great fun bobbing about.
Cheers Bea, yep I have a car myself but just find it easier to jump on public transport - especially with the £2 fare cap atm. So cheap, you can’t really go wrong👍
I live in Preston (by chance - I am not a native Lancastrian) and gave up driving a few years ago. The bus services to and from Preston bus station are pretty darned good; I travel all over the north-west and further afield with ease and pleasure - usually for free on my bus pass. I think it's a great pity that bus travel is so 'looked down upon' by many - yes there are issues as nothing in this world is perfect, but all I can say is 'try it and see'. From Preston there are lots of interesting routes and surprising destinations - with very pretty scenery and even stunning views on some of them.
Yes I agree Lizzie, people should try the buses more often - especially from somewhere like Preston which I believe was the biggest bus station in Europe at one point! There were certainly lots of buses when I was there. I went down to Ormskirk on the bus afterwards. Yes I could’ve got the train down to Crewe but thought I’d try something different. Thanks for the comment 😊👍
Another beautiful video Mark. Thanks for showcasing a phenomenal local bus route and opening up a part of transport not commonly documented on socials. Love your work!!
Cheers melglobus I just wanted to do something that everyone can do and is value for money (I went to Ormskirk afterwards on that day ranger). I had a good time really overall and was very impressed with the bus 👍
Back in the days that this route was covered by Ribble (X27) it extended beyond Preston to Skipton. Long journey but a very useful connector for those of us in north L'pool suburbs.
This video was randomly recommended in my phones Google feed and now I've watched it, I'm glad it was. I've never been to Preston before and could do with a random long bus journey to somewhere new like i did when i was a kid. In fact, I may try it out this week. Thanks for the upload!
Glad to be of service mate. I hope you do try it out and have a great time. Worth a stopover in Southport too I reckon, but in better weather if possible 😊👍
@Let’s Make a Trip! Well I haven't been to Southport in 20+ years eithet so I'll look forward to that too. I'll let you know how I get on. Thanks again!
Thanks to the £2 bus fare offer on the majority of buses in England until the end of June this year, I managed to ride this full whack Preston to Liverpool (opposite direction to you) for just £2 which is a steal, although 2h25m definitely is quite long (especially given I needed a wee for the last half-hour of the journey) even on a luxurious bus like this. Safe to say, I got the train back (bagged a £5 advance an hour before departure) cos one way was long enough! However, the bus route is still extremely useful for connecting Preston to Southport (which doesn't have a direct rail link) and the other seaside towns and suburbs of North Merseyside. This bus service is definitely better with the day ticket so you can break your journey at Southport (like you did), which is certainly miles better on a sunny day, then travel onwards to Blackpool or Lancaster & Morecambe.
Great to see this .Many years ago my sister and I used to get on a coach from Lime Street bus station which was just a glorified huge shed and go home to our parents home in Preston after visiting our Grandmother in summer, at the time I was around 9 and my sister was 7 and this then was normal.
I have fond memories of the Ribble bus station but, small point, it was actually called Renshaw Street. It may have been a shed but at least it was a two-storey shed. In usual operation local services used the low level whilst longer distance and excursion services the much quieter upper level. I once came across a Paris, rear platformed bus sitting in a spare bay on the upper level ?1968. This was so incongruous that it bothers me still!
I’m glad to see that, even though I know very little of the history of buses in the area, it’s bringing back some fond memories. And thanks for commenting too - really appreciate it 😊
@@fenlinescouser4105 no probs mate , I have happy memories of the getting the Ribble to Southport with my nan and grandad from their . Also the Ribble bus station in Southport where you got off the Ribble was another good un , now a Morrisons .
On a sunny day I would imagine it would be quite a scenic journey, oh well you can't do much about the weather, lovely journey and thanks for taking me along , as always take care and stay safe, cheers.
Very interesting. Preston bus station, opened in October 1969, was once the largest in Europe with 80 stands. Not sure that this still applies since the 2017 refurbishment which has reduced the number of stands to just 40.
I didn’t realise that. 80 stands too, I’d love to see a few old photos of it actually might get around to googling it. I think there’s a couple of bays for coaches at the far end - don’t know if that counts. Tbh, I think I called it Preston bus & coach station which is probably it’s wrong title.
Remember visiting Preston about 30-40 years ago to see a friend. All the "last buses" left the bus station simultaneously at something like 11 or 11.15pm, nicely timed for pub closing time. It was quite an impressive array.
I visited Liverpool but I have only used the Liverpool ONE bus station to get from the hotel to the centre and back. Did not know that Stagecoach had a service to Preston, but it has given me an idea to do someday a journey between Skipton and Liverpool via Preston, as the 280 is also a pretty handy service which had risked to vanish for good
Yep, I’d been to Liverpool One before too. I think that’s where the coaches go aswell (see my Flixbus video). I hadn’t been to Queen Square before - didn’t even know Liverpool had more than one central bus station tbh!
One of my local routes, just a seven minute walk from home. A handy bus into Liverpool as it gets there earlier than the first Merseyrail train. It was a half hourly frequency prior to lockdown, but since then it's been mostly hourly. There are three bus routes between Southport and Liverpool. X2, 47 and 300. 47 mostly follows the X2 while the 300 dips into West Lancashire and then via Maghull and Aintree into Liverpool. It's a longer journey, but takes you into the countryside. Stagecoach also run the 2 from Southport to Preston, 315 to Ormskirk (handy during the Arriva strike for going to Ormskirk hospital for appointments) and recently the 347 to Chorley, previously a Holmeswood service.
Cheers Neil, I must admit, I’m not that familiar with the area but thanks for the info. Seems quite extensive really and at least you’ve got the choice of the train most of the time too. 👍
@@LetsMakeaTrip I'm originally from the Surrey/SW London area, on the boundary for TfL buses into Surrey. We moved to get away from the inner M25 madness. I can't drive anymore so use public transport. We chose Southport for the access to places like Liverpool, Manchester, Preston and further afield to Yorkshire and Derbyshire while having the countryside on our doorstep. Compared to many parts of the country we aren't badly served, although there are still many pockets that are isolated if you can't drive. The Merseytravel pass is great to, available from 60 and it covers the bus, train and ferry. The disabled pass is valid all day every day. I sometimes go out on train or bus rides just for the fun of it.
I occasionally use the same £8.50 ticket to travel from Bolton to Preston to Liverpool and back. It's a good if long day out, i usually have a mooch round Southport and Crosby as well as Liverpool
This was interesting to me. Had been planning a trip tp Southport from my home in Hebden Bridge. Felt very proud of planning out the route on service buses ( pensioner free bus pass in hand) This would have taken me on 1 bus to Burnley, then one Burnley to Preston and then I believe this X2 bus to Southport for a 3 day stay. Turned out my friend decided to join me and so we will drive in her car but very interested to see this part of the route!
Great video, thanks for posting. Just been to Southport on train will try bus next time. You make public transport interesting. More people should get out out car, its better for environment.
Cheers mate, thanks so much for watching. I really enjoyed the X2 - one of my first bus trips tbh and I wasn't really sure what to expect. Overall, I was quite impressed.
Another brilliant video which will help many planning trips in the area and those who are remiiniscing. Looks like a superb bus and the two pound new deal is the fist time I have heard of Westminster doing anything useful in a long time .I have heard that Preston bus station has won several architectural awards . Kung hei fat choi 恭喜發財 and happy Chinese new year of the rabbit .Warm greetings from the passengers of Hong Kong .
Thanks OP and Kung hei fat choi to you too (if I’ve said that right)! I think they were going to knock Preston Bus Station down at one point but now it’s listed. I thought it was quite nice personally.
Cheers David, gotta have a sense of humour with some of them 😂 but tbf, I quite enjoyed this bus trip and it does make me want to do a few more. Never say never!
Nice little bus route eh. Bus looked fairy comfortable. The tables are a nice addition. I always head up to the second deck of a bilevel bus...but not too many of these in Japan. Cheers
Nice one. Thanks for taking us along. I was once followed by someone not batting on a full wicket at a bus station as well. Maybe the same person? lol. I thoroughly enjoyed this scenic trip.
It might’ve been. Honestly I would t have been that bothered if I could understand him. Tbf though I think most of his teeth were missing so that would’ve been why 😂
Having watched your video. I loved it! I was born in Preston. Mum was from Liverpool. Never travelled between the two cities so this was an eye-opener. Have lived in Australia since 1977 so this was a real nostalgia-jerker. As a youngster in Eccleston (near Chorley), I went to school and back for 7 years on the 113 Ribble bus between Wigan and Preston. Can you please take the current 113 and show us how it operates?
Cheers Paul, glad you enjoyed the video. I’m definitely looking at doing some more bus routes as this one seemed quite popular (for me). I’ll add the 113 to the list. 👍😊
Hi Paul. The 113 has now been married up to the 111, which operates between Preston and Leyland, however there is a 111 every 30 mins which then from Leyland Seven Stars carries on to Wigan via Standish :)
@@LetsMakeaTrip see the reply below ... the full 113 does not exist. Just watched your London to Edinburgh stint on that FlixBus cargo truck. Would love to see a cross-country ride that does not include a motorway or major highway. Does such a route exist?
You asked would the number of passengers affect the ride. Yes it would. The spring rate of the suspension would be set to deal with a full load. So, when empty you'd expect a bouncy, firm feel.
Nice that they allow one to hop on and off. Wish more buses in North America were more accommodating! Excellent work. Love the charming homes en route.
Thanks Rachel, yep the Lancashire Day Ranger that I used will do that and these buses are quite regular so I just got on the next one and also used the ticket again from Preston down to Ormskirk. I must admit, I’d had enough by then and caught the train back home 😂
Besides a tramp, and the miserable weather, it looks like you really had a good experience. With an affordable journey, on good quality coaches, then you had two hours to watch the world go by with no worries. A stress free journey, at a leisurely pace.
Great trip, it has to be upstairs every time though. If you're thinking of another bus trip I suggest Derby-Buxton on Transpeak - great scenery and use a Derbyshire Wayfarer ticket for travel on trains & buses - great value.
Does Transpeak have double deckers? Thought the only ones I've seen on that route have been single deckers. One scenic Peak District route that does (or did) is Matlock to Chesterfield.
@@iankemp1131 I can't recall seeing any on the route, the route you suggest is run by Stagecoach (I think). I do recall seeing some TP double deckers in the Buxton area but can't remember which services they were running.
Great trip. Since the name of Bus Company is Stagecoach, I think this bus is a Coach for the first time, but when the bus arrive, it's feel like Intercity bus but that's okay.
I drive 2014 plate Enviros in Huddersfield, on a shuttle from the University to Storthes Hall Park,(possibly the shortest bus route in West Yorkshire). Storthes Hall Park is the site of the old Storthes Hall Mental Hospital. I've found the Alexander Dennis Enviro buses to have probably the worst suspension going, and they definitely rattle a lot, regardless of how many passengers are on Board.
Plastic all over makes the bus rattle more. But the builders have to hold the weight down on these two axle buses. This is not a problem for the 3 axle buses/coaches at all, and therefore there can be fitted higher quality materials into the body.
I and my hubby done this journey about five times in all to preston then on to Blackpool and enjoyed the journey each time and all to gether the journey takes about 3 and half hours roughly to get Blackpool the whole journey from Liverpool to Preston and on to blackpool and it a nice scenic journey and it don't feel as if you have been traveling that long yes if u not done it it well worth doing enjoy your travels every one
Thanks wolfgoddess (48), yes I reckon so long as you take some food, bottle of Merlot maybe, you could have a good old time and it’d go quite quickly. Sounds great 👍
What I would say with regards to bumpy ride as well as the poor road quality in Liverpool is the chassis. The Scania deckers (especially the N250UD chassis on this bus) do seem to ride firmer as oppose to a double deck Volvo or Wright integral chassis (pre Wright StreetDeck). When this route was first introduced a number of years ago, Volvo Plaxton Premiere? Coaches were used, not long after that 3speed Voith Volvo Olympians and then a batch of PX58/09 registered N230UD Scania’s on classic Alexander Dennis body prior to the bus you have travelled on recently. I do however think despite the ride quality Scania’s are a great inter urban bus chassis but on comfort Volvo was/is ahead of the game.
Cheers Neo Man for the info - lots to digest for a non-expert like me but I’m glad I asked the question as I wouldn’t have much idea what was/wasn’t a decent bus to look out for in terms of comfort. I guess the Volvo is the one to look out for though how common they are and where they are would be my next question! 😊👍
As your Vlogs are covering the Northwest at the moment. Have you considered The Witchway Manchester Chorlton street to Burnley, then to Skipton? Onwards to Settle, Ingleton, Kirkby Lonsdale, Lancaster. It's possible to do it in a day starting early. I completed this journey last summer using my OAP concession. This summer going to stop over at Settle and take the train to Carlisle then the bus again to Kirkby Lonsdale. Also noticed at Skipton Buses for Harrogate and beyond. A great one to try as well 199 services from Manchester Airport to Buxton!! Being an OAP now I challenge myself to see how far I can get in a day using my concession. Certainly going to try Preston to Liverpool service, possible tag it on from Lancaster?
Blimey Peter, you’ve got a fair few trips planned there! I must admit, I sometimes envy the OAP’s on the bus pass and having the time to do it if you’re retired. Mind you, I’m not far off qualifying myself tbh! I’ll definitely do some more routes, as this video was a bit of an experiment on whether people wanted to see them or not. It seems to be doing well on my TH-cam analytics so yeh if people want to see more, am happy to oblige.
I drive Arriva's 47s to Southport which for the most part, follow the same route as the X2 as far as Crossens. Honestly, I'm envious of their Enviro400s for just one reason. Not even our quickest deckers can keep up with theirs on the Formby Bypass and believe me, I've tried! They do look great too but it doesn't seem to take much for them to reach capacity on a busy day.
The difference in that route is that it goes past Hillside station whereas the X2 goes past Birkdale station. Also the X2 going South leaves the A565 earlier than the 47 does as the X2 goes through Litherland when the 47 doesn't go through Litherland.
Travelled on the X2 and 49 along the by-pass a few times. (Shame the 41/42 and other bus revisions didn't take place last year). It can be an exciting ride on the top deck of the X2 on a windy day as the by-pass is quite exposed.
Those ADL 400 MMCs' are a lovely piece of kit..you can get them kitted out even more posher than that one....No more passengers doesn't make it less bumpy ..laughed at that .
You should have been able to buy your Lancashire day rider at the merseytravèl centre in queens square for Stagecoach due to something called impartial retailing i was surprised that you had to buy on the X2 Buy the way was yours valid for 7 days Mark
Cheers Paul. One of my first trips by bus was his was so was till finding my feet a little. I’m assuming now that you can do this route for £2 one way too with the bus fare cap. Well-worth it if you can 👍
It’s got to be top deck every time. Interestingly I had a similar experience regarding ride quality. All will be revealed in a couple of weeks. As always, a beautifully put together vid. Excellent.
Have you considered reviewing the Stagecoach/Megabus falcon service in the south west it runs between Plymouth and Bristol and Towns in between. For me I think it’s amazing i just thought it would be an idea to film
Hi Mark great video. I’ve done X2 Liverpool-Preston then Stagecoach 68 Preston-Blackpool great fun took 4& a half hours each way that’s 9 hour round trip lovely views on route though.
@@LetsMakeaTrip Hi Mark I reckon you could do 4.5 hours Liverpool-Blackpool once in Preston Stagecoach 68 every 20 mins to Blackpool plus Stagecoach 61-Blackpool that’s every hour Mon-Sat. Love your video keep up great work 👍
Well done Mark for adding interest to what I thought would be an average bus trip. I did think you were going to praise Preston bus station on arrival ... but it wasn''t to be. Its design from the late 1960s appears to portray the future of bus travel.
Cheers Alex, I should have praised Preston bus station really - I think it’s quite striking (won several awards apparently). Well something tells me I may end up there again at some point so, yep, I’ll make a mental note to do it next time 😊

Fascinating! I really enjoyed your perspective on things. It looked like a comfortable ride. I wonder what it would be like with every seat on the bus occupied....... I'm amazed that there are no toilet facilities on the bus.
Use the X2 regularly from Liverpool upto Southport and Preston, always a nice journey, the buses do tend to ride better when there’s more passengers onboard weighing it down abit, then again the roads of Liverpool are awful
I use this service a lot to go from Liverpool to Southport. Then come back on the train. Incidentally when that first bus that didn't stop drops passenger's off at a bay for getting off only just up from the Mersey travel building.
It's so random how this video popped up in my recommendations! Me and my mates used to get this bus from Bootle, then got off at Southport around 7:50, then rode our bikes to Leisure Lakes camping just on the outskirts of Preston, mad that
Very nice bus and vid. Whilst the new local Stagecoach busses in Manchester don’t have all the bells and whistles they do have similar comfy seating that are much nicer than the 15 year old busses that still cover quite a few routes. I do like taking long bus routes as you after see a lot more of places than by train but I find they rattle less downstairs, but agree better view upstairs. The 324 from Harlow to Heathrow takes 3.5 hours but I now know Hertfordshire towns a lot better and it was a basic Arriva single decker. On my US trip next month I have a lot of trips planned in various cities including a trip across New Jersey from the coast to Philadelphia and various LA transit trips amongst others.
I’ll look forward to hearing about your US trips mate. I’m flying into Austin next month and was considering the bus over to Tampa where I need to be to fly back. It all got a bit complicated though! I will try and fit in one bus trip - Greyhound again probably! I think I’ll plan in a couple more bus routes in the UK too as it does seem to be reasonably popular 👍
@@LetsMakeaTrip Thanks. I originally was going to use Greyhound quite a lot but winter weather and possible cancellations and a full itinerary made me reconsider and stick to Amtrak. Look forward to your vid. Just as an aside have you used the Virgin Lounge at JFK on your recent travels since it became possible to pay to enter as standards may have altered? It’s not cheap but looks much better value that the Manchester lounges. Yes the bus routes vids are very interesting and your style suits the crazy nature of some of them.
@@baseballfan99 yes I used the Virgin Clubhouse at JFK. The food and drink is great, as are the staff. Mind you, I came back from Doha on Sunday with Qatar in biz and wow, that was something else! Amazing!
@@LetsMakeaTrip Yes I believe they are amazing along with other Middle Eastern Airlines. I have flown Air France 777 and it great and about the best of the European/American airlines. The food was amazing as was the pod, the lounge was great for free high end drinks but was a bit crowded in Paris but not in New York.
Words that may come back to haunt you... 'I'll try anything once' 🤣 cracking video as always! Interesting to see that Stagecoach have actually tried making the bus a more comfortable option than just a usual bus where you're only 'treated' to a very uncomfortable seat.
Haha, yep cheers Myles I think I’ll probably do a few more bus videos now though - quite enjoyed this one. Not sure they’ll all be as comfortable as this one.
Judging by how high the Ribble was the sea at Southport was as close as it could have been had you got to the beach. Even when you're on the beach it can be miles away if the tide is all the way in. edit that should say- "isn't all the way in"
I'm definitely a top decker. I always associate an X prefix as being an express service. I'm sure there is a demand for buses that just stop in the town or village centres.
Yes you might be right Jack. I bought the day ticket as I was going on to Ormskirk afterwards so it kind of made sense and less hassle for me not knowing the area that well.
Not very often you have one of your subscribers actually sat behind you on the second leg. I said to the missus when we got off in Preston,I'm sure that's the chap who does the travel vids...I actually am a driver for Stagecoach in Manchester so get free travel on most buses in Great Britain, actually doing Manchester to Scarborough by bus next month ...all free ...busman's holiday.
Ah Mike you should’ve introduced yourself mate, would’ve loved to had a chat about buses and stuff (I’m always up for learning things from the experts). I think I saw you both at Preston when we got off actually and did wonder - maybe a sixth sense or something 😂 Well next time mate, or maybe you’ll be in the drivers seat next time I see you! And I guess that yes, you are doing the actual busman’s holiday. Talking about Scarborough, I was thinking about the bus from Leeds(?) the coastliner one is it that’s supposed to be pretty good 👍
You’re lucky that it even ran. Devon Stagecoach has given up running a service for the public especially if it goes to a hospital. We have the oldest and most uncomfortable buses in the country.
I have only used the X2 service going from Liverpool to Southport, never the full run to Preston. First time using the service, was only a couple of weeks ago actually. I was going to see a movie in Liverpool, and the Merseyrail trains were finishing early due to the rail strikes (which I only found out after getting on the train). Having to get back to Southport late, the X2 was the only service left for me. I got it around 21:00, and it took around 50 minutes from Liverpool to Southport. The journey was pleasant, and I can also verify that the ride is indeed bumpy while still around the Liverpool City area. As this was the last service of the night too, the bus was not as busy as I thought it would have been. Must have been around 8 people in total on the service, and only 4 (including myself) took the service to Southport.
So starts in Burnley bus station goes throught the countryside into Accrington then down the motorway and comes in Manchester City centre outside national express coach station mmc double decker bus with tables a library glass roof and just great views
Hey I'm glad u liked the x43 just seen the video great flim if you in Huddersfield I'm on train replacement tomorrow morning along motorway Saddleworth great views
Oh and by the way as you can closely see in the wide Picture above the letters that is what I'm writing about, can you also repaint all of them in the exact same Colour Patterns But Repaint most of these Buses in the exact same Blue Triangle Pale Red Colour Patterns and that will also would be the exact same Colour Patterns but leave the rest of the other exact same Pattern Colours for the rest of those 4 Speed Leyland Hydra cyclic Automatic Transmission Buses so they could have most of those professional opportunities to Replace All of the Arriva Buses in North London for all of us Different Colour Patterns Blue Triangle Bus fans out there?
Ah ride quality is an issue on these Scania ADL vehicles. It's just the way they are. Some are better than others. I ride the 125 Gold Preston bus and on the section from Preston Bus Station to Bamber Bridge where I get off, the ride quality is shocking. Once they get on some better roads though or you accept the poor ride they are lovely very luxurious buses. That would be a good route for you to do! The 125 Gold from Preston to Bolton. Scenic over the tops from Chorley to Bolton too. 😊
Presumably it exists to serve Southport? Also the ticket is actually a DayRider, not a Day Ranger, the Lancashire Day Ranger is a railway day ticket and costs a whopping £28.40 (at time of writing).
Great job on this video Mark! In my opinion not only one of Liverpool's best bus routes however one of the most comfy as well! I must say and I don't know if you agree however the seats on the X2 to me personally look and feel more comfortable than the Megabus coaches that Stagecoach also run! I have done the entire route on 2 to 3 occasions and I rather enjoyed it, sometimes I'll get on the X2 to Formby for the shops and again a very pleasant journey all round. Strangely I do also notice the X2 bus service advertised on Megabus's website if trying to travel from Liverpool towards the direction of Preston, I would be very interested if Stagecoach would consider extending the service from Liverpool/Preston to Liverpool/Blackpool potentially? I don't see why not especially as they have reduced the frequency of the X2 which is not ideal, I would still also like to see a return of a bus service connecting Liverpool to Manchester via St Helens or Warrington as the distance is similar and does not feel impossible, it would prove useful especially if the trains continue to be an unreliable method of transport and if Liverpool can be connected to as far as Preston by bus? Then why not Liverpool to Manchester?
Cheers mate, I certainly wouldn’t mind if these seats were on a normal Megabus service of a few hours. The other thing I didn’t expect to see were tables! Something that certainly wouldn’t go amiss on some coach services (I think Megabus have some downstairs). The services you mention, you’ll know a lot more than me in that area tbh but I’m surprised there isn’t one between Liverpool and Manchester. Competition from the train I guess?
You mean they've reduced the frequency of the 61 between Preston and Blackpool from half hourly to just hourly so yeah I'd like to see the X2 extended to Blackpool. I've just looked on Google maps and yeah they've also reduced the X2 to hourly from half hourly.
I rode this bus everyday for a few months. Your correct about the seats but I'm afraid from there it definitely goes downhill as a bus service. Firstly, you must have been lucky as most of the time it is full rubbish such as cans of coke and crisp packets everywhere. Also, do not sit at a table seat as youths always put their feet on the opposite seat when they sit at a table (yuck!). Well about the rattling I presume the roads in England are so bad that the shock absorbers have failed and Stagecoach has refused to replace them. Plus the design of the bus makes the rattling and jarring worse because most of the seats have their stop buttons built into the back seat therefore most seats don't have any metal tubing going to the ceiling (like on the old buses) and this tubing help support the seats from shocks and jarring caused by bad roads. The older buses that are sometimes used to cover a breakdown don't bump and rattle half as nearly as bad. Also as you have found out most of the drivers are monosyllabic if your lucky - most of them just make grunting sounds. I used them for a month straight last November and had three chest infections on the bounce because of a lack of ventilation once again caused by the bad design of these buses. Basically the windows only open either full or closed and most people keep them closed in the winter because even it you open one its like the North Pole. Also, during my time on the bus over last winter I can't recall a bus that had any sort of heating. Stagecoach are cheap for a reason!
There was a woman n the top deck coughing like anything. I am surprised I didn’t catch something. Mind you, I’ve had my flu jab now so I’m ready for anything. Doesn’t sound like you enjoyed the bus Ed but I found it quite comfortable really. Take your point about feet on the seats. I’ll do a few more bus videos if you’re interested. You must let me know how you find them. Cheers 👍
@@singaporemick yes I heard something like that. Also, it used to be Europe’s largest bus station (or something like that). That would have been a great factoid to have added in tbf 😊
Just a pity that from Liverpool to the Lancashire border on the outskirts of Southport it appears to be a normal service bus - stopping at every lamppost- and it is at the Lancashire border that the trip becomes a true express service.
I've seen that bus but never been on it.Assuming that you had the time if you get the North West Explorer you could get all the way to Newcastle via Preston, Lancaster, Keswick and Carlisle.Although with the £2 fares at the moment they are probably cheaper than the Explorer.
I did wonder whether to postpone this trip until the £2 fares kicked in but then I thought that’s supposed to run out end of March so I might aswell do it with the day explorer (as per normal times). Might have a look at that North West one though, cheers 😊👍
All Stage bus drivers are all the same I live in Sunderland and most of them don’t even look at you when you get on the bus not even a hello or thank you you might get a grunt if your lucky😊

Back in the days that this route was covered by Ribble (X27) it extended beyond Preston to Skipton. Long journey but a very useful connector for those of us in north L'pool suburbs.
Thanks for the info (and the comment) 😊
Love to watch a wee trip like this, can be just as enjoyable as the biggies! Cheers!
Cheers mate, glad you enjoyed it 😊
I drive ADL Enviros for FirstBus Wells, and the ride is shocking on all of them, it gets slightly better the more people on boards!
Cheers Simon, I did wonder 👍
The suspension on Buses is designed to cause maximum discomfort to passengers!!! I always thought this and still do.
Haha yeh, it makes you wonder!
And thanks for commenting too - really appreciate it 😊
Skelhorne street was the Ribble bus station in Liverpool city centre
@@ste2442 You're right. I stand corrected.
(Senior moment!)
Yep, tbh I could’ve waited but I was really keen to try it out. Plenty more to do in the summer now if this one does well 😊
Very interesting.
You used a bus from Liverpool one to the centre it’s literally 5 minute walk it’s literally quicker walking 🤣
I love your presenting style, well done, Love from Ireland💖💖
Thanks Jacqueline, not sure what my style is tbh (rough and awkward probably😂) but I’m glad you like it. Cheers 😊

I'm originally from the Surrey/SW London area, on the boundary for TfL buses into Surrey.
@@neilcrawford8303 I’m certainly hoping to travel the same way when I get to 60! 😊
Hope to do the X2 but in the opposite direction. Great video..
Excellent very enjoyable keep them coming.👍🏻✅
Thanks Michael, been filming another bus video for you today mate 😊👍
I occasionally use the same £8.50 ticket to travel from Bolton to Preston to Liverpool and back. It's a good if long day out, i usually have a mooch round Southport and Crosby as well as Liverpool
Cheers Thomas, yep, sounds like a good day out that 👍
This was interesting to me.
Another excellent and enjoyable video. I have taken the X2 bus to Preston.
Thanks Bobby, I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did 👍
Great video, thanks for posting.
Cracking video. Thank you
You’re welcome 😊
Great video as always I wish London buses had USB on Monday im doing the oxford tube service from
London Victoria Paul in Kent
Ah yes Paul, the Oxford Tube is on my list of ones to do 👍
Some buses now have USB ports now, the 68 being one of them
Another brilliant video which will help many planning trips in the area and those who are remiiniscing.
Even better when like me you have a bus pass!
Another great video. I enjoy your infectious and cheerful spirit on your many and varied journeys. Great fun.
Cheers
Cheers mate. Yep funny that, for some reason, I can’t imagine having double-deckers in Japan, don’t know why 😊👍
Looked great 👍
It was, surprisingly so 👍
Been a few times to Liverpool by the X2 and I hope you liked our great city
I do like a Liverpool. Been there lots of times for the football, used to get the soccerbus from Sandhills up to Stanley Park and back.

I used to drive for Stagecoach Preston and drove the X2 when I first started. Hated it 😂. Most of the other routes were fine, however.
I've ridden this route. The day I rode it they had a old cracky bus. I travel the length of the country with my bus pass free travel
One day Charlie, I’ll hopefully do the same. I wish you all the best on your travels 😊👍
You asked would the number of passengers affect the ride.
Yes it would.
The spring rate of the suspension would be set to deal with a full load.
So, when empty you'd expect a bouncy, firm feel.
Perfectly explained sir, thank you 👏
Nice that they allow one to hop on and off.
@@LetsMakeaTrip Mixing things up is a fine thing, mate.

Preston to Ormskirk, on the 2A via Burscough I assume?
@@neilcrawford8303 yep👍
Besides a tramp, and the miserable weather, it looks like you really had a good experience. With an affordable journey, on good quality coaches, then you had two hours to watch the world go by with no worries. A stress free journey, at a leisurely pace.
I did have a good time Keith, definitely recommend it 👍
Great trip, it has to be upstairs every time though. If you're thinking of another bus trip I suggest Derby-Buxton on Transpeak - great scenery and use a Derbyshire Wayfarer ticket for travel on trains & buses - great value.
Cheers Kevin, I agree upstairs for me too. I’ve added your suggestion to the (ever-growing) list - sounds like a nice trip that 👍
Does Transpeak have double deckers? Thought the only ones I've seen on that route have been single deckers. One scenic Peak District route that does (or did) is Matlock to Chesterfield.
@@iankemp1131 I can't recall seeing any on the route, the route you suggest is run by Stagecoach (I think). I do recall seeing some TP double deckers in the Buxton area but can't remember which services they were running.
Great trip. Since the name of Bus Company is Stagecoach, I think this bus is a Coach for the first time, but when the bus arrive, it's feel like Intercity bus but that's okay.
Cheers mate, yep it’s definitely a bus though ‘stagebus’ doesn’t quite have the same ring to it!
The name 'Stagecoach' is based off the type of service they provide. "Stage carriage".
Cheers Paul, thanks for the info. Yep, plenty of plastic on it, I can certainly vouch for that!
Lucky to get wi fi as stagecoach south in Portsmouth not switched there back on
Yeh, pretty good the wifi was tbf. Agree, it is disappointing when they’re not switched on.
Cheers for the insight - sounds like I picked a good day capacity-wise too! Maybe I should try the Arrivas next?
The difference in that route is that it goes past Hillside station whereas the X2 goes past Birkdale station. Also the X2 going South leaves the A565 earlier than the 47 does as the X2 goes through Litherland when the 47 doesn't go through Litherland.
Travelled on the X2 and 49 along the by-pass a few times. (Shame the 41/42 and other bus revisions didn't take place last year). It can be an exciting ride on the top deck of the X2 on a windy day as the by-pass is quite exposed.
I used to drive the X2. The buses are Scania's and they're on another level to drive. They do 64 on the bypass 😉
Those ADL 400 MMCs' are a lovely piece of kit..you can get them kitted out even more posher than that one....No more passengers doesn't make it less bumpy ..laughed at that .
Haha, just a question I had no idea whether it would or not. But if you don’t ask, you never know I guess 😂
you should try first excel from norwich to peterborough or the other way around
Sell it to me Archie 😊

Use the X2 regularly from Liverpool upto Southport and Preston, always a nice journey, the buses do tend to ride better when there’s more passengers onboard weighing it down abit, then again the roads of Liverpool are awful
Cheers Ty, yep it did calm down a bit after leaving Liverpool tbh. A nice bus all-in-all 👍
I use this service a lot to go from Liverpool to Southport.

What an interesting journey
I was wondering whether it would be busier due to rail strikes but obviously not. I’m surprised tbh.

Don’t know why they don’t incorporate coil springs anymore, probably to keep the weight down.

Cheers 👍
The number of passengers onboard does have a slight effect on how bumpy it is.
Cheers BotNW. I wasn’t sure tbh, some say it doesn’t- I thought I’d ask the question as a novice bus user!
You never mentioned Preston art deco bus station
Well I guess I showed it on arrival Mick, I can’t remember to do everything but I did find it a rather impressive building 😊👍
@@LetsMakeaTrip A few years ago the council were going to knock it down but it ended up being saved by the public.
Good point John, hadn’t really thought of that until you mentioned it 👍
hello so with that Lancashire rover ticket , can u get on and off the bus all day ?
I believe so Peter.
@@LetsMakeaTrip im from preston i think il have me a bus trip to Liverpool with a few stops on the way
I've seen that bus but never been on it.Assuming that you had the time if you get the North West Explorer you could get all the way to Newcastle via Preston, Lancaster, Keswick and Carlisle.Although with the £2 fares at the moment they are probably cheaper than the Explorer.
I did wonder whether to postpone this trip until the £2 fares kicked in but then I thought that’s supposed to run out end of March so I might aswell do it with the day explorer (as per normal times). Might have a look at that North West one though, cheers 😊👍
As a londoner the best thing about Liverpool is the way out
I lived about 30 miles from Liverpool until 83 and there was a saying, Liverpool where men are men abd coppers are scared
dito mate same with london
But london a better city than Liverpool how's that work
I thought London (or Wembley to be precise) was known as Anfield South 🤔
@Let’s Make a Trip! please don't insult london by trying to compare it Liverpool
There is a video with people going from Preston to Southport
The passengers were oap. Who could use their bus pass for free
Yes Peter. Put it this way, if I was old enough to qualify, I’d be doing it a lot more!
Quality bus.. These buses are better than wrightbus in my opinion
I bow to your expert knowledge LBD 👍
state of the roads must knock el out of the buses
Yep, can’t do them much good!
Top
And me 👍
All Stage bus drivers are all the same I live in Sunderland and most of them don’t even look at you when you get on the bus not even a hello or thank you you might get a grunt if your lucky😊
There was a marked contrast between the first driver and the second.
The wife and husband and 2 members of their family have just been charged with human trafficking
