Yes John, I’ve experienced it myself in the fast lane at 70 mph with busy traffic. Fortunately I managed to keep it under control and everyone around me figured what was going on. I was glad of a conventional hard shoulder that day!
Great video, Mark. I think that the choice of coach or train is always train for me. I like to see more of the scenery and less of the concrete and traffic, so I pay that little extra, but I have been on coaches from the North East to Staffordshire during my University days. I like the option to walk down the aisles and also know that there is more than one amenities on the train, and the ability to move train coaches if there is noise. My son is into trains so it's our most used method of transport. He re-created your dining on the train video in one of his own videos, with a large tissue as his table cloth and a small selection of food 😂 Hope you're well. Andy.
yet another nice trip report Mark er yes coach looked neat and tidy but 4quid for one journey from Liverpool to Birmingham crazy think i must take a mega bus one day when train strikes are on! but yea I've enjoyed watching your video mate take care
As a tourist I prefer to do coach, as you get to see a lot more than on a train however I would never do a long journey on a coach again London to Edinburgh was just too long on a coach definitely train for that journey if I visited the UK again.
Thanks Tanya. If you do want to do the coach to Scotland, just take plenty of supplies and relax. Yes it’s long and not for everyone but cost is a factor for some too. Cheers 😊👍
Ahhhhh Shudehill interchange. Many a time walking from Piccadilly to Shudehill at 5 in the morning to catch the early megabus down south. All because it was so much cheaper than a train from Preston to the south. Many a £1 deal back then, many a bus incredibly late. Good times, miss ‘em
Great video. I stayed at the Adelphi twice in the last few years. It was basic but clean and reasonable for the price. I love those huge corridors in there and bet it was plush in its day.
This was another good and interesting video. You mentioned early on about some rattling and noise where you were sitting. I reckon you were very near, or even right over, that rear double axle. You might have had a quieter time by sitting closer to the front.
We had a tyre blow out on the M3 which a smart it was very frightening we quite far from one of those yellow break down areas we had to call the motor way traffic emergencies to stop all the traffic so we could get of the road. These smart motorways are very unsafe.🥴
For me i'd take the train. The speed and usually more comfort wins it. I've done a couple of long coach journeys in the past and i'd avoid unless there was no alternative choice at all. That being said, i do like the fact that theres an alternative means for other people as well as helping out excess capacity and competition.
First off great video as usual always enjoyable. The only reason I have ever used a bus is if it is a short journey and it is a way of getting to view some of the countryside if it is a journey you have never done before apart from that I will be on the train or driving myself. thanks again and stay safe, cheers.
Mark hello again...Liverpool Kev here...nice to see you take a trip from your 'spiritual home'...not sure about this one...going all the way across to Manchester to then head south seems to defeat the object...Great video...thank you...never been to Birmingham city centre in my 65 years haha.......Not sure the cost savings worth it...hope you are ok....Liverpool Kev...
Hi , Great Vlog as usual, regarding Adelphi hotel, we stayed in it about 5 years ago a wee overnight break from Glasgow. Food was lovely but room was very dated and needs an update.
I travelled from Liverpool One myself back in 2022 when I went up there for a couple of days. Had travelled up on the train but had to get the coach back due to a train strike. Travelled on National Express with no issues at all. Having said this, the train is considerably quicker so would use that if possible
Hey mate, I'm glad you love the megabus company, after all the amount of amazing journeys they provide is mind blowing, anyways thank you for the amazing video and as always, cheers mate 👍
@@LetsMakeaTrip I cannot remember the actual cost, but with a Coachcard discount it's still good value. Thanks for inspiration, when money is a bit more flush, I shall rebook the coach
8:32 The hard shoulder is very short. And the distance from the driver's side to the highway appears to be only a few inches. Fortunately, the occupants of the blue car were sensible people who stood on the right side of the guardrail waiting for help.
Hi Mark how you doing mate? Great video as always well filmed plus edited great to have another Megabus coach video uploaded onto your channel i absolutly love your coach videos there my favorite, the chach that you traveled on is really nice for a year old always good that the facilities were all there plus in working order, for how much you paid that was alright specially to be riding on a new additon to the fleet anyway hope your having a good afternoon so far Mark and keep up the great content on your channel like always 👍
Oh the jury is still out for me on coach travel. I’ll just have to give it a bash. Great review as always and I’ve got to say those seats looked comfy.
You need to come to Birmingham Airport 🛫 to do aircoach into leicester then do X6 arriva midlands Leicester to coventry fast and direct & Coventry to leicester via hinckley
Excellent video as always! I miss seeing Philibus fogg coming down to bristol when they changed routes in January 2024. And yes the public named all the megabus's
Personally I don't mind a longish coach or train journey if not too overcrowded - time to read, stare out the window etc. great to see my birthday town Birmingham. Cheers!
Mark, another great video and I’m always impressed by all the research you do for these. Which takes some work. We’re going to be entering the UK via MAN in a couple of months and our first stop is Stoke on Trent. I’d planned to take the train via Manchester Piccadilly but I might look into the coach after seeing this. With a family of four, it could save us a few £ and a detour to central Manchester. Will see if it’s worth doing. Many thanks! I always look forward to your vids, they’re always great.
Cheers mate. Looking at the bus/coach station at MAN I think you’ll be ok with it. Not sure which service you need tbh but there seems plenty arriving/departing
Nice one mate! Though I'm surprised TH-cam's resident coach guru didn't stay on all the way to Norwich 😜 There must be some market, as this weekly coach, and the hourly Liverpool to Norwich trains - but then maybe most people are doing shorter sections. Cheers for now ;)
For me, the issue with these longer distance coach journeys is the need to travel to hubs to use them. I live in Essex so, for example, if I wanted to travel to Glasgow I'd need to get to Victoria coach station in order to make use of the cheap coach fares. The cost of travelling into central London makes this approach uneconomical, to the extent that travelling the entire distance by rail (which also requires changing in central London) works out slightly cheaper in most cases, as well as being considerably faster.
7 hours with probably no charging points and maybe no breakfast, lunch or dinner of any kind for a significant part of it, some departures don't have it at all? Not for me thank you but I see why some have no realistic alternative.
Nothing wrong with Megabus, I've used it and National Express several times from London to Scotland and back . Last time was overnight to Scotland and the coach was modern, clean, quiet and relaxed with well behaved passengers (mostly students) and I even managed to doze off. Takes longer, but it gets you there, and is way cheaper than the train.
Wow what a bargain. Am travelling more on coaches now as I find train fares especially to London are getting to high. Travelling with Flix bus from Sheffield to London last week cost £6.99 and was very impressed.
£6.99 is pretty good yes you really cannot go wrong for that. I can see more and more of these coaches on the roads with the state of the rail network atm. And let’s hope prices stay low! Cheers mate 😊👍
I've begun using "local" buses over trains because of the £2 single cap in most areas...quite nice to go from Tunbridge Wells my home town to Brighton and back for £4. I believe it's one of the longest single routes in the UK. Ironically the train journey is of similar duration but more expensive.if cost was not a factor I would use the train though as I prefer the smoother ride and ability to get up and move to another carriage
I stayed in the Adelphi few years back shall we say booked in 10.mins later left that says it all done a few long coach journeys can't always stretch your legs
I won’t take that as a recommendation then! Yep on the longer coach journeys you can normally get a break, otherwise a walk to the toilet is about as much as you’ll get.
Have you thought about doing a video on the new Merseyrail 777 trains ? Got to say I've never used Mega bus as I've heard to many horror stories same with flux bus. I use national express even to get to Scarborough but that involves a change to a normal bus at Leeds one of those coastliner buses you did the Leeds to Whitby video of
I’ve been on one recently but not filmed it. Thought it was quite smart tbf. I had one bad trip with Megabus and that was a contracted coach. Their branded coaches and drivers/staff in the main have been really good (as have Flixbus).
Hi, Matt. Your coach journey was quicker thana my train journey from Wrexham to New Street yesterday. Over three hours to get there and almost five hours to get back. Caused by a landslide between Shrewsbury and Wellington. Bus repacement service was a shambles from Shrewsbury and Wolverhampton. On the return from Wolverhampton we were told three different coaches that were for dirict service to Shrewsbury. Absolute chaos. Needless to say I won't be traving TFW to Birmingham Internatioanal nest Saturday but going via Chester and Stafford. Great video as usual
Mark you're not wrong about Sandbach services south. Back in 2004 it was rated the worst in Europe, and little appears to have changed since. As a resident of Sandbach I regularly use the motorways in this video. Smart motorways are anything but, people often break down inbetween the breakdown areas and cause an obstruction in the left lane. This causes people to switch lanes and if anything makes things more dangerous. When serious accidents happen it is virtually impossible for emergency services on the ground to reach the accident. This results in the air ambulance to being deployed which of course means the opposite side of the motorway needs to be closed to allow the helicopter to land. This didn't happen nearly as often when there was a hard shoulder. Imagine the cost of deploying the air ambulance an a more regular basis. Keep up the great work.
Cheers James. I honestly didn’t know that about Sandbach now it doesn’t surprise me in the slightest. I’m sure someone somewhere is making a whole load of money out of them though. And yes I agree with the smart motorway thing. Hopefully we’ll still have an air ambulance around in future to rescue these poor souls!
I was in a fatal bus crash on the M62 as a child so would always pay extra and take the train, the cost doesn’t matter to me. It was a good entertaining video and I can’t believe the traffic was moving outside the RAC building. This is a naturally congested part of the motorway network.
I had to laugh at your Manchester Airport travelator comment 😂. Maybe one day we’ll all get a pleasant surprise….mind you, I wouldn’t hold my breath. I’ve clocked up around 70 airports worldwide and as far as I can remember this is the only one that doesn’t work and hasn’t for years…..Shamefully! 😉
I used Megabus once in 2019 on a journey from London Victoria to Leeds, it was good apart from the fact for my route, they used a sub contracted coach!
I'm always so jealous of these costs. It's £4 to go via NE or FB from Bristol to London, a comparable journey time, but the cheapest fare a week in advance is about £40. For me, that's worth it but saving a tenner? Wouldn't be worth it for me.
I do enjoy these UK coach travel videos 👍 East Midlands Railway also run a direct service between Liverpool and Norwich (which goes via Manchester) which takes 5.5hrs, and it's not even a proper intercity train, just a bog standard commuter train. Maybe a future travel video there, Mark?
@@LetsMakeaTrip definitely. I wouldn't mind it if it was the ScotRail , GWR or the tfw units (they have more padding!) . But the EMR ones have almost no padding at all .
I'm liking megabus more and more , ok they go "around the wrekin" but so long as no major traffic holdups just sit back and enjoy the ride, so long as its safe and gets you were you want to be no worries ,. 4.22hrs to norwich from liverpool by car acording to google maps, whats national express and flix like on this route ?,.p.s have you got any gatwick airport trips planned in future ? as BA are bringing in some new/old routes to bangkok later in the year, Lgw/bkk,.(i'm not a BA fan tho)cheers.
Cheers Mike. That’s my philosophy in coach travel - use when you’re not in a rush, enjoy the views, think about the money you’re saving and you’ll ALWAYS get a seat. I may have a trip from LGW later in the year but it won’t be with BA.
Another excellent video, always nice to see my home city of Liverpool. As others have said, The Adelphi Hotel should be avoided at all cost. A once iconic and beautiful venue, ruined.
Cheers mate. Yeh they seem to have made an effort in some areas and left others to just rot away. Can’t say I’d choose it over a premier inn any time soon!
I spent the night at the Adelphi Hotel with my wife several years ago and for us it was fine, room was massive and it was cheap, the hotel itself was huge and for what we paid it was fine.
One room! You were diddled. Back in the day, stayed a couple of nights, walked into room (living/dining room), through the corridor past the bathroom into the bedroom. Seemed to be the place where old furniture from rooms being modernised was being stored rammed with huge 19th century stuff. IIRC the Adelphi was used to film scenes set on the Titanic due to the similarity in interior appointments. Although these days I don't imagine they make up the fire in rooms for winter warmth as used to be the case. Don't hesitate to try it.
Good bunch of lads working for Prospect......I'm in the industry , we have 73 plates and they all rattle...build quality with any body builder since covid has been rubbish and crap build quality...Those smart motorways are anything but smart
But actually that's one of the main offputting factors about coach travel: waiting in a draughty bus shelter open to the winds, with no real-time information and not even a timetable to confirm you've got the right time. That's where train nearly always scores (and NX if they use modern coach stations)
If you were travelling with NX they had all the usual arrival/departure info inside the travel centre but Megabus and Flix yep, no such luck at Liverpool.
It's a mixed bag as regards coach stops and coach stations for sure, some very good, some primitive and nasty. Try waiting for a coach at Carlisle bus station on a cold Winter's night, for instance.
I've had a complete power failure on a motorway and instinctively just pulled into the hard shoulder...there would have been no way I'd have made 400m to a little layby...thankfully vehicles around me avoided me...could have been nasty
I’ve had a blow out 8n the fast lane and you instinctively head for the hard shoulder if you can get across and rely on other vehicles noticing you’ve had a problem and reacting accordingly. Scary though and even more so if you’ve just passed a smart motorway ‘lay-by’ I would imagine!
😮 wow Mark cheap as chips yes I pay £4 30p for salt and pepper chips so you're journey was very cheap👍 you see a lot more visiting cities did you get the ferry over to New Brighton ? across the mersey well my friend thanks for the 📹 M8 all the best John 😊
Always the trouble with UK Coaches - they use UK roads! Which are always crowded, very slow outside M-ways, and prone to traffic delays. Been trundling up and down the M1 a few times recently and there always seems to be chaos at some point. On my journey I saw loads of Nat Express, Megabus and even Flixbus vehicles - it struck me that the Megabus livery is now looking a bit old-fashioned and dowdy nowadays....very easyJet but duller in colour! In contrast I passed a Nat Exp coach in something rather like the old Scottish Citylink livery with large Saltaire cross on the back that looked very impressive!
I've used Megabus and National Express to travel from Northern England to London many times. I normally go on the overnight coach and I do it cause the extra money I save by not taking the train I get a McDonald's breakfast 🥞 with at Victoria in the morning 😂. I know it's pretty sad but also I can usually stay an extra night as the money I would have spent on a train can also go towards another nights stay in a Travelodge or BnB or even a Premier inn if you get a good deal 👍🏻.
It’s not sad at all mate! This is exactly the kind of thing I’m thinking. Save your money, spend it on other things. I have a similar approach to something like the Caledonian Sleeper for example - probably cheaper to go up in the day and get a proper nights sleep on the way (I.e. Glasgow). Cheers for the comment 😊👍
Smart motorways are SAFE. Majority of the accidents that happen on a smart motorway, happens on a normal motorway too. Also, dual carriageways are more dangerous yet just fine as for example. The A1 and A30 do not have any over head gantries and not a lot of laybys
Great review as always Mark. Coaches compared to trains really are down to cost Vs time and that's how train companies can justify it. £15 is actually quite cheap compared to London-Bristol which is around £40 for the train. When you pulled into Manchester there was the coach Bus ta Rhymes, which I saw in London Victoria back in January 😂 Smart motorway, not a fan of them myself. As for the Adelphi hotel, unfortunately I stayed there a good 10 years ago doing Majestic holidays. Horrible place, like all Britannia's (Shittania's) but it's not the worst. That honour goes to the Burstin in Folkstone. I think Walk with me Tim has done another review on it, will check that out later.
Cheers Marc. Yes I noticed Tim has returned to the Adelphi tonight - what a coincidence eh 😂 it’s not bad £15 for the train I agree and that’s what would probably sway me (with the time savings too ofc).
@@LetsMakeaTrip Yeah I'd be more inclined to take the train at that price too as the journey time is significantly less but I agree with what you say that Megabus is great if you're on a budget and £3.99 for that journey is great value for money
I did a journey with mega bus last year which encompassed the same journey ( I went Leeds to Reading via Manchester and Birmingham. For myself I would never travel with megabus again. Yes it was cheap but I would not advise for anyone with any degree of disability. The design of their coaches with the seating deck sitting very high above the luggage container meant the coach had several very very tall steps to access the coach. I am 5' 3" and had to virtually crawl the steps with great difficulty. On leaving the bud I had to sit on each step and climb down and getting off was very painful and scary. I have weakness and restricted movement my knees. I mentioned to the driver on exit. He was very rude said I should have asked for the bus to be lowered but did nothing to help me. Never again !! Never !
Hi, I was under the impression that the minimal seating behind the driver on the lower deck could be reserved but don’t quote me on that. It was good to see on this bus that there is a large reserved area for a wheelchair (right in front of me you will have seen it). I haven’t seen that on NX or Flix yet but I do think that is a step in the right direction and I guess over time, the old Megabus fleet will be phased out for these much better vehicles.
Isn’t it time we got proper nice bus stations in this country, places that are warm, welcoming, clear information and safe. With live times showing at all bus stops. Just seems a random mess what we have now
To be fair to scania they only make the bus chassis and whichever coach maker builds the bodies is probably responsible for the rattles,.as they say "its a big ole bus",.....
Thanks mark yea nice coach its competitive now 3 way split megabus national express or scottish citylink in scotland and flixbus intresting times thank you enjoyed video and you doing coverage of buses and coaches its appreciated enjoyed thank you so much so i away too watch another 😊 keep up good work and have a good week thank you
Thanks for another brilliant video. The company that does this route is Prospect Coaches who are based in the West Midlands area. Up until the start of the year the route was Norwich to Bristol/Cardiff via Birmingham.
Enjoyed the video, don’t get me going on smart motorways as an ex member of the now extinct Motorway cop brigade. Government have put a hold on them while safety is reviewed to many unnecessary deaths and near misses.
Safety does come first in everything unless it means the government saving money then lives come second. So called smart motorways are a disgrace and sums up government nicely. I'm familiar with Prospect Coaches as their depot in Lye near Stourbridge, ii about five or so miles away from where I'm typing this.
Cheers mate. Well that seems to be it in a nutshell. Sticking plaster solution to save money though I’d be interested to know if incidents have increased or decreased on the relevant stretches of road.
so called smart motorways are dangerous, i will not drive on them, and have reverted to using the trunk roads, Prospect Coaches has certainly grown from its humble beginnings
I’m not sure I’d avoid them altogether tbh but I do think they’re more of a ‘risk’ than conventional motorways. I might be wrong but I’d be interested to know the crash stats if there is such a thing.

I missed the £1 trips. Probably never see them again tbh.
That sounds horrendous (and heightened risk to you through no fault of your own). Glad you were ok but not a great experience by the sounds of it.
For me i'd take the train. The speed and usually more comfort wins it. I've done a couple of long coach journeys in the past and i'd avoid unless there was no alternative choice at all. That being said, i do like the fact that theres an alternative means for other people as well as helping out excess capacity and competition.
Finally!! A coach video on mega bus from the best transport TH-camr ever
Cheers mate 😊👍
First off great video as usual always enjoyable. The only reason I have ever used a bus is if it is a short journey and it is a way of getting to view some of the countryside if it is a journey you have never done before apart from that I will be on the train or driving myself. thanks again and stay safe, cheers.
Cheers Simon. Fair comment indeed 👍
Philibus Fogg!😂 I love that. Great vlog, thank you, Mark👍
The m27 is also a smart motorway yes it is a cheap way of making the motorway 4 lanes each way
Yep, all about cost savings isn’t it.
I have stayed there on a coach holiday its a big hotel it was nice central location in Liverpool
Great video mark. I think it depends if you have plenty of time then coach wins or plenty of money then train wins. I enjoy both
I travelled from Liverpool One myself back in 2022 when I went up there for a couple of days.
Cheers mate and thanks for the comment 😊👍
I use the National Express, reverse wise Birmingham to Liverpool. Very good service, clean and comfortable coaches
And even NX would be relatively cheap I would say 👍
@@LetsMakeaTrip I cannot remember the actual cost, but with a Coachcard discount it's still good value. Thanks for inspiration, when money is a bit more flush, I shall rebook the coach
@@LetsMakeaTrip Agreed . I use them a lot .
8:32 The hard shoulder is very short. And the distance from the driver's side to the highway appears to be only a few inches. Fortunately, the occupants of the blue car were sensible people who stood on the right side of the guardrail waiting for help.
Yep, first thing to do, get to the other side of the barrier. Safety first!
You do need to try it Tim. Think about the views too (not just from your seat) 👍
You need to come to Birmingham Airport 🛫 to do aircoach into leicester then do
X6 arriva midlands
Leicester to coventry fast and direct & Coventry to leicester via hinckley
Excellent video as always! I miss seeing Philibus fogg coming down to bristol when they changed routes in January 2024. And yes the public named all the megabus's
Thanks pacman 👍 I enjoyed this coach. Lovely inside, bit rattly but overall, a nice trip and a great driver too!
Personally I don't mind a longish coach or train journey if not too overcrowded - time to read, stare out the window etc. great to see my birthday town Birmingham. Cheers!
Thanks Mark. I really enjoy watching your videos. Very informative.
Cheers Darren, thanks for watching mate 😊👍
Thank you
You’re welcome 😊
Great video. Great value. Ideally I wouldnt want to go via Manchester but the price makes that insigficant.
Cheers Keith! I agree if you’re not in a rush. Think of the money you save and buy lunch with it 👍
Mark, another great video and I’m always impressed by all the research you do for these.
Cheers for now ;)
Cheers mate. Next time you invite me over for a beer I’ll give it a go 😂. On fhe train though I think 😊👍
Excellent comprehensive guide as always Mark , nice coach, great fare, thanks 👍
Cheers mate and thanks for commenting as usual it is much appreciated 😊
Great video Mark, I'm on this service to Coventry next week from Liverpool
Cheers Sean and enjoy your trip! 😊👍
@LetsMakeaTrip it was good! Shame Megabus have cut this and most of their routes now
@@LetsMakeaTripit was good! Shame Megabus have cut this and most of their routes now
For me, the issue with these longer distance coach journeys is the need to travel to hubs to use them.
Yep, fair point Brad and it just goes to show that it’s worth doing the maths beforehand. I’d be the same. I’d take the train.
The rail journey from Lime Street to Norwich is one I`d like to do
7 hours with probably no charging points and maybe no breakfast, lunch or dinner of any kind for a significant part of it, some departures don't have it at all? Not for me thank you but I see why some have no realistic alternative.
I’d be interested to know how the price compares for the whole route.
Brilliant video as always!! Hope all is well, take care
Cheers Peter, I’m working hard on some new stuff 😊👍
Can you please tell me how does it work with Megabus how do i get a ticket i would really appreciate it.positivty peace and love ♥️
Megabus website has everything you need on it 😊👍
@@LetsMakeaTrip thank you very much.positivty peace and love ♥️
Have you thought about doing a video on the new Merseyrail 777 trains ?
Got to say I've never used Mega bus as I've heard to many horror stories same with flux bus.
I use national express even to get to Scarborough but that involves a change to a normal bus at Leeds one of those coastliner buses you did the Leeds to Whitby video of
I’ve been on one recently but not filmed it. Thought it was quite smart tbf. I had one bad trip with Megabus and that was a contracted coach. Their branded coaches and drivers/staff in the main have been really good (as have Flixbus).
Hi Mark, good video I personally prefer the railway much quicker…
Cheers Michael 👍
Cheers. There is ticket acceptance via Crewe atm because of this chaos. Going to be 3 weeks to fix it apparently.
@@LetsMakeaTrip I shall be going that way next Saturday to International for the National Outdoor Show. Thanks for the info
Was in Liverpool last weekend for a gig,got a train in the January sale from Stourbridge return for £11.
That is a total bargain. Advance tickets the way to go mate 👍👍👍
Trains derail
@@minixtvbox Accidents do happen. You pays your money and takes your choice!
Depends on the time of day with the M5/M6 junction. I commuted into Birmingham for 3 years and it got worse and worse.
Just so happens Walk With Me Tim posted a video staying at the Adelphi, the same day as this video was posted
I can’t imagine it’ll ever work again. Might as well put pot plants on it 😂
Awesome video buddy from Alan in Lowestoft buddy 😊
Thanks Alan, appreciated mate 😊👍
I just watched Tim's review of the Adelphi Hotel, and it wasn't very positive. But I love Liverpool - for so many reasons!
Same here. I watched it too. Like a lot of these old hotels, some parts are amazing and others just totally horrific!
USB ports are in a strange place, it seems only one seat has access to them that means less than 50% have a USB port.
How about the norwich to liverpoool train service.
It’s an option. Might explore that one day 👍
I used Megabus once in 2019 on a journey from London Victoria to Leeds, it was good apart from the fact for my route, they used a sub contracted coach!
I’ve had that with Megabus and the coach was appalling tbh.
Great video Mark! Is that a new camera you have? The quality looks unbelievable! 😍
It is Olly yes. Big sensor helps.
Great review
Thanks mate
I'm always so jealous of these costs. It's £4 to go via NE or FB from Bristol to London, a comparable journey time, but the cheapest fare a week in advance is about £40. For me, that's worth it but saving a tenner? Wouldn't be worth it for me.
The coaches on that 040 route are superb as well. I get your point yes. Distance (cost/saving per mile) also relevant 👍
The best British bus trip I ever took went from Ft. William past Loch Ness to Inverness. Have you ever done that one?
I haven’t yet but my recent Fort William to Oban going the other way definitely whetted my appetite!
Second that. Just make sure there's no rail replacements if you go.
Class 158s usually
I don’t mind the 158’s but it’s quite a long trip on one - longer than the Scottish lines by the sounds of it.
Have to say fine. But we passed the largest Fire Station Iv ever seen Brum, and you told us about Phones, ah well sign o times.
Sounds good Marc. I haven’t tried it and I’ve heard good and bad tbh. Only one way to find out isn’t there 😂
Smart Motorways are anything but, one gets a tyre blowout and have to drive 400m or more to a lay by and it will be a new wheel as well as the tyre.
Cheers John. I’ve done the Mersey ferry loads of times but not filmed it. One for the future though yes 👍
I’ve seen one or two of those NX coaches with the Saltire myself - they do look nice and you immediately think Scotland-England long-distance coach.
@@LetsMakeaTripYeah...but a little odd that they look 'Scottish' from the back and English from the front!
That would be one of the coaches operated by Bruce coaches
I've done the national express a few times now and i keep finding that the coaches are uncomfortably hot.
Ask the driver to check the heating. I’m sure they’d be happy to check.
Do they stop for long do not think i could cope with no proper toilets?
Smart motorways are SAFE. Majority of the accidents that happen on a smart motorway, happens on a normal motorway too. Also, dual carriageways are more dangerous yet just fine as for example. The A1 and A30 do not have any over head gantries and not a lot of laybys
Great review as always Mark.
Coaches compared to trains really are down to cost Vs time and that's how train companies can justify it. £15 is actually quite cheap compared to London-Bristol which is around £40 for the train.
When you pulled into Manchester there was the coach Bus ta Rhymes, which I saw in London Victoria back in January 😂
Smart motorway, not a fan of them myself.
Could you please do a review on chiltern class 68
I have done that a couple of years ago. Tbh, I never got around to editing it so I may release it at some point. It’s just a bit old now.
@@LetsMakeaTripWould still love to see it . Even if it is beyond Moor Street
Good video. Yes its mainly money vs time however i do prefer travelling on train as you can get up and stretch your legs.
Yes Keith, that’s a fair point.
Good video as always
Cheers Jack 😊
Isn’t it time we got proper nice bus stations in this country, places that are warm, welcoming, clear information and safe. With live times showing at all bus stops. Just seems a random mess what we have now
As i drive coaches for a living if i want to go anywhere long distance and not use the car ..i use the train
Scanias are known for their rattling, I take them all the time, and it is very rare for them not to rattle
To be fair to scania they only make the bus chassis and whichever coach maker builds the bodies is probably responsible for the rattles,.as they say "its a big ole bus",.....
Interesting, I’ll have to remember that for future 👍
@cabovermike who makes the body out of interest Mike?
@@LetsMakeaTrip Higer build the body in China and Ireland
Hi Mark, the reason why the WI-FI wasnt really working is because prospect have college route and i would say that they use that coach when they can
That seems to be an issue in many trips, WiFi advertised but not working
Yep could be James. It was ok, just not the best I’ve ever had. Just worth pointing it out I thought.
Although Liverpool to Birmingham by train, ever since the Government interfered, is in a commuter EMU, not even a Voyager
Yep, the newer ones are ok but not much on them tbh.

Totally agree. All about money these days though isn’t it.
Looks like a nice coach for mega bus 😂😂😂
It was. Best one I’ve been on 👍
12.00 that shows Smart Motorways at its worst. Feel for that motorist, must have been frightening. Fortunately they are abandoning them I think
Not sure of the latest Daz. I wonder what will happen to the ones already in situ?
Safety does come first in everything unless it means the government saving money then lives come second. So called smart motorways are a disgrace and sums up government nicely. I'm familiar with Prospect Coaches as their depot in Lye near Stourbridge, ii about five or so miles away from where I'm typing this.
Cheers mate. Well that seems to be it in a nutshell. Sticking plaster solution to save money though I’d be interested to know if incidents have increased or decreased on the relevant stretches of road.
I disagree with the megabus name they no longer use buses, they use coaches
so called smart motorways are dangerous, i will not drive on them, and have reverted to using the trunk roads,
Prospect Coaches has certainly grown from its humble beginnings
I’m not sure I’d avoid them altogether tbh but I do think they’re more of a ‘risk’ than conventional motorways. I might be wrong but I’d be interested to know the crash stats if there is such a thing.
Let the train take the strain...
Or the bus for less fuss? 🤔
