@@oon5542 no, it's a VERY low security lock. the body is plastic and the locking bolt is pretty small, with enough force you could break it
@@froot2912 I doubt it's breakable, they wouldn't sell it then
@@oon5542 Do you think it's indestructable lol? It's a thin zinc dead bolt, if you are strong you can break it. I'm not saying you could just give it a small tug and break it, but it is certainly not impervious to damage lol
@@froot2912 You have one of those? I’ll get it and try breaking it as hard as i can, i’ve asked people who already own that one and they told me it is impossible to breake for an average person strenght
Exactly what I was looking to get for my BYAS ikea tv stand thought I needed
lock that requires drilling through the existing (gloss)surface but I don’t won’t mess up the gloss or crack it I can screw this in and apply a dermal to the inside for the locking mechanism and I’ll seals up the rear by the wall and get a secure cabinet for all my personals .. thanks for the video I’ll post progress .. thanks for the tip!!!
Cool! What happens when the batteries die in the lock? Does it automatically unlock them when the cells are low?
I installed it moments ago just the way you did before watching this video. Additionally, you can pair one extra card to this lock AND it can be your NFC compatible phone. Pretty neat idea.

@@oon5542 yes, it’s particle wood, your only locking it to keep the wee ones from exploring or opening doors they shouldn’t a thief or someone who really wants to get in can and will.

@@user-hn9os6fk9t Did you watch the video? He installs a RFID lock. That same lock can be moved to the back of the drawer and the RF card would still work.

It makes a sound when the batteries need to be replaced. Just like your smoke alarm does.

@@28Justchecking I think the batteries last about a year. At that point it will start making a noise to let you know that it needs replacing, just like your smoke alarm does. Usually when I place batteries in these things I use fresh ones (not like the dubious ones for my mouse say, since if it gives out I'd be the first to know about it). Then I do mark it on my Google calendar to check about it in about a 11 months to a year. Even though the battery might still be good, I replace it with fresh ones again, and store the "used" ones in a box for... my computer mouse, or things like that. :) The lock thing works really well, and can be configured one way or the other to almost anything!

I’m not sure on that one. Check with the manufacturer the lock.

I was only able to install a lock on the top drawer. On the side drawers there isn't a place for the small deadbolt.

how sturdy is the lock? If somebody wanted to could they rip the shelf out with their hand? question is, i might use this to keep my pistol in at night
It's pretty sturdy but if someone really wanted to get into it, I'm sure they could. If I were to keep a pistol in the drawer, I would get a small biometric safe myself.
Dawson Duguid My idea was to buy the “Bekant storage unit with smart lock” and put my pistol in small gun safe and place it in the bottom drawer.

Perhaps use a small “L” bracket instead of drilling a hole. Mount it with a single screw.

I used the long screws included with the lock. IKEA sends 3-4 different types of screws for different kinds of wood.

Are you worried the batteries will ever die and you wont be able to unlock it?
I think the reason people haven't done the same is the easability of putting hands in the window of the drawer to remove its contents. People aren't going to install an expensive smart drawer for such a drawer that everyone can see whats in it.

If it needs secure storage, get something stronger than an inexpensive particleboard set of drawers.

I don’t think it’s strong enough to hold a door in place, but it’s worked well for me on this drawer
What if, Its lock, and bettery ended???
If the batteries are low than the lock will beep periodically. When the batteries are empty, the lock will automatically unlock it self.
What do you do when the batteries die?
theresonly 2genders It takes something close to a year of use. It makes a chirping sound to alert you when the batteries (AA I think) are about out to die
It will stop honest people, but if you give it a good tug it will come open
