    The flat buttons on the steering wheel used to be two separate pieces, now they are one piece that rocks up or down depending on which button is pressed. The buttons feel more solid.

    Another change that has occurred somewhat recently on the Model S is that the supplier of the steering rack has changed. As a result, the steering feel has improved noticeably. There is better road feel, and the steering wheel centers itself with a bit more authority.
    The loss of the dead pedal is a real head-scratcher, especially if you live in an area where salt is used on the roads in the winter. Keeping that area clean will be a real challenge. Tesla's winter floor mats were recently redesigned, but the newer version still does not completely cover the carpeted footrest.
    Incidentally, the "Æ" in your channel name makes tricky to search for your channel.

    Great vlogs. All Model S builds after July ‘17 have standard adaptive led headlights (previously part of PUP), and smart suspension is standard as well.

  • @lexiconthx1
    @lexiconthx1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Just took delivery of mine in November and didn't realize all these changes they made in the last year... Thought the alcantera dash was a upgrade and that was why I didn't have it... Just a FYI the smart air suspension is standard you don't need the premium package to get it now. Thanks for another awesome video though you guys always bring great stuff. One more thing I noticed is my car has the plastic inside the door handle and not the Alcantera. I don't have the premium package so wonder if it is part of that or something just recently added. My car has a build date of September 2017.

    Cool video! The deposit also seems to have gone up recently here in Australia.
    I really believe Tesla never added coat hooks or grab handles to the S to keep the interior looking minimalist and stylish. Same goes for how you could always hide the drink holders by sliding the arm rests. The original Model S yacht floor looked beautiful although it wasn't very functional, it was different to everything else on the market and showed off the fact that there was no transmission tunnel.

    Does the December 2017 model have the premium upgrades? If not, maybe that is why the lower dash covers are not in the color of the seats and the alcantara is missing from the upper dash?

    I took delivery Jan 2017 and a few changes that I didn't see in your review. I ordered with Premium Leather seats with the Premium Package and they upgraded my seats to ventilated ones which previously were only available on the P models. This was a very delightful "bonus" as I live in SoCal and ventilated leather seats in the summer are much appreciated. I also heard that in the new premium package you get the upgraded speakers which were a separate options before. I wasn't impressed by them so I skipped on the upgrade during my order hoping to eventually add the Light Harmonics package. Great side by side review though and I love the custom paint/wrap job you did. Where did you get that done and how much was it?

    The extra bolsters on the outside seats makes using child seats significantly harder ... a wider child seat still fits fine (even with someone in the middle) BUT because it is pushed a few inches further to the centre of the car which is really annoying when it comes to clicking the seatbelt into the latch. A wider childseat will mean you have to pull the child seat a few inches further towards the front of the car until the belt is latched and then they slide back in fine.

    Very well done. Except...
    I ordered a S P100D that was new stock because it was exactly what I would have web page designed. It cost less, but was made 1 week earlier 12/14/16.
    I have all the bells and whistles except for the leather by the door handles. I am so happy, depreciation has not happened to me. The car is faster yet safer than anything else. My car continues to evolve with software updates. It may be of less dollar value than when she was purchased... but, I getta keep all those miles of smiles. Especially the ones that come 1/4 mile at a time. You could put a price on those smiles but it would certainly be more than the cost of depreciation. Plus, I get a lot of my power for free from all the superchargers, for instance... Vegas and back to northern Michigan cost me $0 in fuel.
    I love my car... period.

    I do prefer the model year and LCI approach to model changes - gather a bunch of changes and have them happen on a model year basis, so that people have a cleared overview what set of features exactly they will be getting when buying a car - either new or used.

    • @izybit
      @izybit 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tesla is able to fix and perfect a lot of stuff by not sticking to model years.
      To be honest, model year is only usefull if you want to sell the car as when buying it you know exactly what's being offered.

    I'm amazed at all the ways a Tesla Model S doesn't compare to your standard car in disappointing ways. Even my 20 year old BMW has adjustable seat belts, adjustable head rests, vanity mirror lights, coat hooks, a rear seat arm rest, color coordinated lower trim, etc. It's a lot of minor things, but it adds up. Though I support what Tesla is doing, it lends the sense of a car built as cheaply to focus on "gimmicks" rather than a true luxury vehicle.
