A video of the two level crossings at Preston docks, found on the Ribble Steam Railway. One of these level crossings runs along the road, over the Preston docks swing bridge. The swing bridge occasionally opens for vessels coming in and out of the marina. There's a pedestrian level crossing beside the swing bridge, allowing pedestrians to cross the line. All the equipment seems rather old. It is very interesting to look at and quite awesome seeing a steam train travelling over the bridge. Something very unique and rare in the UK.

Thanks. This is one of the rarest crossings I've seen in the UK alone. Yes, the lights are really ugly!
It's because these Wigwags were originally Forest City bulbs, but when the lights themselves got replaced with Siemens optic design lights, they were retrofitted onto the boarder, thus making them stick out. The back of these wigwags is still Forest City.

It is a level crossing but also on a swing bridge over the harbour.

These used to have skirts on, saw them in a video from 1989.
Oh really? I wouldn't of guessed. Do you have a link to the video or the name of the video you saw possibly?
UK Level Crossings it's on TH-cam it is called Preston 1988 or something like that you can see at the start they are filming at the docks and when they drive over the bridge you can just about make out the skirting, make sure you click part one

That was before the Ribble Steam Railway was even started, i think it was national rail back then, national rail trains still use the line for a fuels plant past the bridge, although i think they have to change drivers or something as it is now a heritage line they only come very early in the morning, I have only had to stop once for one that was going across Strand Road LC.
Also I thought ill ad that when i went a few weeks ago the barriers have TULLY engraved into them, if that helps :)

This makes TWO TH-cams of this feature, NEITHER showing the bridge open. From the straightness of the joint, I don't see how this could even be a swing bridge rather than a hinged or vertical draw -- unless you British use the term "swing bridge" differently.
This would be a swing bridge where the road lifts up slightly and then rotates about 90 degrees. The bridge only opens on request to allow vessels into and out of the Preston marina, so its actually quite hard to see active. It also must open in-between trains on the steam railway when thats operating.
@@UKLevelCrossingsChannel That's interesting. The swing bridges I'm familiar with don't lift first, but have round joints (circular arcs) that allow the bridgeway to rotate directly in a horizontal plane.

Thanks 😊 This is an old video from 2016 so the camera-work wasn't as good back then. It's much better now though.
